The amount of thought that had to go into orchestrating all these steps so their colors contrasted and they were at the proper cure stage at the time of
Filming is awe inspiring.

Thank you for letting us know. Glad we could help out!
I really wish Milo had disassembled that more complex mold towards the end to show us the plugs and silicone!
Thanks for the input Jack! We plan on doing more of these in the future, perhaps that is something we can do in another stream.
It's been three years since this video was made. Have you made another that goes into plugs for deep crevices?
Really great videos! @@smoothon

It would be nice to see the final mould place back together as it looks so flimsy and wondered how it actually stuck to the side
Thank you sooo
You're welcome 😊
Thank you so much for this, really easy to understand!, would have loved to have seen the mold for the metal cast item though ;)

when you get the sculpture out and you are talking about not having to deal with excess on one side because you only cut on one side of mold, am i wrong in thinking you will still have cleanup from the inner edges of the arms?
49:30 great question
Very thorough. Thank you . I wish you could make my molds for me.
We do not make molds, but have a list of moldmakers who may be able to help you: www.smooth-on.com/moldmaker/
Great video. Thanks. Your sound could be better. Try to put a high pass filter (HPF) on the sound and remove all frequencies under 200hz. This would remove all the low rumble sounds. And maybe have an eq that takes away the ac noice. That would be great.
Thanks for the tips!
This video has been really helpful. But what do I do if I have a sculpt of a 22in figure w a pole from the armerature coming out his lower back?
Hello GrJk, your request can be handled by our technical support team. Please submit a support ticket at www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/
How is this product with moisture?? Is the cure affected by temperatures?? I’m trying to make a custom mold using a carcass. Taxidermy stuff...I use a two part polyurethane foam mix to make the forms. So would I be able to place the project back into the freezer while partial/full cures are taking place, so that the carcass doesn’t completely thaw/leak and possibly lose shape??
To mold a frozen piece, we would recommend Mold Max 30 silicone with Fast Cat 30 - www.smooth-on.com/tutorials/molding-casting-alligator-snapping-turtle/.
Can you please tell me what kind of silicone is best for making a brush on mold for natural clay sculpture?
Can you send us a tech ticket? Our team can help you - www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/
What is the name of that isopropyl alcohol pump? I love that!
It's called a plunger can - www.uline.com/Product/Detail/H-3683/Safety-Storage/Plunger-Can-2-Quart
What is a guiding factor over using metal shims for your mother mold vs doing an open faced mold?
There are a lot of factors that would need to be considered. Can you send us a tech ticket? Our team can help you - www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/
Where can we buy the bubble sheets? I don't see them on the SmoothOn website.
These can be purchased from Reynolds Advanced Materials
Can a release agent be sprayed onto the object first before applying silicone to it?
Yes, we would recommend Ease Release 200 www.smooth-on.com/products/ease-release-200/
Do you have to let the silicone fully cure before building the mother mold??
Yes, the silicone should be fully cured before constructing a mother mold.
If the mixed material is thick , is it possible to thin it by any thinner material
You can thin silicone rubber with our Silicone Thinner
Great video👍
How can I clean the brush after applying silicone
We recommend disposable brushes, but mineral spirits or NOVOCS can be used to clean uncured silicone from the brushes.
@@smoothon Many Thank 💐
Thanks for watching! 😃
Can you provide another source for the bubble sheets? Reynolds Advanced Materials doesn't show it on their website. Thanks!
You may want to try calling The Engineer Guy - www.theengineerguy.com
Hi there, I'm wondering could you tell me what is the thickness of the metal shims that you are using in this video? Would it be 0.2mm for example? I can't find these shims locally so I have to order them online and it would be helpful to know what thickness I should purchase. Thanks!
The thickness is 0.004in
What if I want to make a mold and try experimenting with filling it with different materials.. or effects?
Silicone rubbers such as Rebound 25 are a good choice when you want to cast many different types of materials.
Happy 4th
Can you use a hairdryer blowing hot air on the figure to dry it faster between layers.
I wouldn't.
Let it dry in in it's own time.
I used a brush on 40 and it seemed a bit long between steps, but a 25min like this will be half set up while you get the next layer ready. If you're still curious start a ticket with them and as, they're very helpful and respond quickly.
Hello, Thanks for watching. No we do not suggest this. If you would like some other options you can contact us and we can help you with your project. www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/ Thanks for watching!
Please make a video of a mold of something concaved hallow inside. I want to make a mold of a hide "Cave" for a tortoise but I don't know how to make the empty space inside.
This is a great idea! We will forward it to our video team.
Does this type of silicone mold leave behind any oils or residue that could potentially damage the part underneath? Im making a mold of a part of a car and im just worried about damaging the paint surface underneath.
Hi there! This is a good question for our tech support team, can you send them a ticket here? www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/ Thanks for watching!
Older video but hoping to get a response, does it have to be a silicon tint or can you use anything else? Hoping to save on money
Using a pigment designed to work with silicone rubber is important to ensure the rubber cures correctly.
Can I get the same results with Mold Max 30 ?
Yes, you can use Mold Max 30 as a brush on rubber. Adding Thi-Vex will thicken the silicone.
Can I use Mold Star 30 for a brush on module?
We recommend using Rebound 25 or another material designed for brush-on moldmaking. Mold Star 30 is for pour on molds only.
What's the purpose of the bubble in the plastic? Won't just plain plastic work without the bubbles?
Hi Barbara. The bubble helps make a registration key to let the halves of the rubber mold align properly.
@@smoothon Thanks for the quick answer.
Anyone have a lead on what exactly the cloth is at 35:19 ? And leads where to buy?
Hello, He is using a cloth called Power Mesh. That cloth stretches in all directions which makes it really nice for reinforcing flexible materials as they flex in all directions as well. It can be purchased from our distributors. www.smooth-on.com/distributor-regions/usa/
1:35:25 what is name of these materials? 2 cup and one cup material.
thats Plasti Paste 2, commonly used for support shells/mother molds
can i do that on plaster model ?
Hi there! Yes you can. Our tech support team can help you with your project. Can you send them a ticket here? www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/ Thanks for watching!

Milo How Much Money You Save On Using Latex Which Is Time Consuming You Need To Think About How Much Wages Your Time Costs You In Lost Hours
Every material offers plusses and minuses. The advantage of using latex is low material cost. A disadvantage is the labor and time necessary to arrive at your finished mold. Brush on silicone or urethanes will get you a finished mold faster but are significantly more expensive.
