When I was 8 I traveled by greyhound 400 miles to my grandmother's house. Chicago to Northern Wisconsin.......WITH MY 5-YEAR-OLD SISTER! And we had to change busses in a small town on the way!
I know I don't get it either people are different one of my friends said that Santa brought the tree🎄 I was like what🤔ok I love decorations I always have ❤
Some families used to do that. Some even had the tradition that Santa decorated the tree when he delivered the presents, so the kids didn't see the tree decorated until they woke up on Christmas morning.
My goodness how insensitive, celebrating Christmas full on as normal when you have a child in the house experiencing her first Christmas without her parents. I haven't celebrated Christmas at all since my husband died 10 years ago. I just don't want to now but the first year I would not have been at all able to it would have been unthinkable. Poor Annie!

If not for it, I could have not enjoyed stuff like this under drastic circumstances such as cobid19 or even have an opportunity such as this to cyber-socialize.. Odd how Kate seemed so unperturbed about Annie being gone and then being found down at the bus station heading two states away. Most parents would be frantic, running around, calling the police. Kate should have known when Buddy told her what she had found in Annie's room and about the borrowed money that something was terribly amiss. None of this ran true to Kate's character. It's like Sada Thompson phoned this episode in. It made the whole show fall flat.
Yeah she's always with her "Oh Doug's" for every single thing, yet when there is real cause, Annie getting chased by Doug's stalker at school, or being told Annie is about to board a bus for another state where if they don't get to her now they may not get to her in time, here Kate is slowly searching her room before even calling Doug with the news?
I think because it was the Lawrence family way to shop at last minute, Kate didn't think twice about it. They didn't realize how upset she was. She was settling in ok and then the holiday threw her off balance.
On TV shows and movies I've noticed they wait until Christmas Eve to buy and decorate the tree. Here In Mississippi most people decorate the day after Thanksgiving. If we waited until Christmas Eve, there wouldn't be a decent tree left. What is the tradition where you live?
Yup. Vito the victim of the dying independent stores driven out of business by corporate chains with Annie taking off to Seattle 9 years before the grunge scene hit.
Why would they just assume an 11-year-old would be out shopping by herself in L.A at night and just be okay? I was about 6 when at this time but even I remember that the late 70s and early 80s was prime for kidnappers, especially in L.A for God's sake.
Blooper alert: according to the return address, Sophie Cooper sent the package, but in the episode where Annie is introduced, her father's sister is called Sophie Sullivan.
@@GiftSparks Poor Sophie! That's a lot of trauma to endure in a short period of time: the death of her brother and SIL, admitting she's a failure as a parent and now a divorce.
Why is it that in these television series, they always put the tree up Christmas Eve? All that work for work for only a couple days, unless they keep it up till New Year. Either way, no one waits that late to put up Christmas decorations...

@@lynn1464 🌲...My grandparents on both sides put up artificial trees from the 50'/60's on. ... Dad's parents had one of those awful aluminum numbers with a rotating color wheel for lighting. 🤔 My parents mostly liked the smell of a live tree-we chopped ours down fresh from the woods-and of course for us kids sake. Eventually Mom tired of the mess of the needles and gave in to an artificial tree in the late 80's. Fresh fir wreaths do the trick for us now-great smell and less fuss. 🎄🦌🎅⛄ Season's Greetings from Charlotte, NC
@@lynn1464 Well, they've had artificial trees at least since the 60's, and this episode is from the late 70's. A live tree can last several weeks if it's watered and misted daily. I think the main reason all of these TV shows have their cast putting the tree up on Christmas Eve is to squeeze the Holiday into a 48 hour period. I've never known anyone who only wants to enjoy a Christmas tree for just a few days...
Quinn was such an amazing young actress. That said, I didn’t care for her in this show. She didn’t fit in with this cast and I think the show “jumped the shark” when they added her character. I think she deserved her own show like Mayim Bialik had Blossom.
I liked the character Annie in the show. She added contrast because she was a little different from her guardian family. "Family" was a 1970s version of the 1950s TV program "Father Knows Best". Solid parents, two daughters, one son. The story lines and personalities in both reflected the culture of the times in which they took place. Father Knows Best didn't get into the nitty-gritty of family life to the extent that Family did. But the same could be said about the respective decades they took place in. The final episodes of these programs ended 20 years apart.
I don't think she was supposed to fit in. She was a kid from another family and another part of the country who suddenly found herself in a family of strangers and a completely new environment. They loved her and were good to her, but it wouldn't have been so easy to acclimate and assimilate.
Other comments from other episodes said the producer feared Buddy would leave the show because she became VERY famous. So they added Annie to keep a younger child around. But then Buddy never left the show.
Why are they taking so long why isn't she in a car or calling Nancy's house to get to the father to tell him that she's at the bus station her bus leaves at 9 it's 8 now why is she just a gingerly going through the house like she doesn't care funny because Annie is actually her best friend's daughter which makes her her goddaughter she's like lazy favorite the kid that's her best friend's kid
The mother isn't worried but if she would have told her dad that he would have dropped a whole Santa thing and ran out to go look for her he would have ran in her room and checked if she was there but it seems she wasn't there and would have jumped in his car and looked everywhere he would have been smart enough to remember the reservations and may the mom recall the phone like she said she was going to and she didn't she's not worried but the dad mr. Doug definitely would have been and I believe once he finds out he's going to blow his top
The writers of this show always did an outstanding job in making it so real and believable. But the package that arrives for Annie and the note written in the Heidi book are a bit of a stretch......who buys a gift in February and has it delivered on Christmas Eve, with such a formal note as though they knew they would not be there at Christmas to present it personally? Scarcely believable.....didn't work for me. Sorry.
I can't believe these dolts just pretty much absentmindedly neglected Annie until she slipped right out the door, under their noses, and then very uncharacteristically stayed in denial as Buddy and Doug issued concern. Just a sloppily written episode.
I usually like Lily put in that episode in that moment I don't like him he was so standoffish and so cold to the barbershop owner Mr vido how could he be that way to somebody that cut his hair all his life beauticians and Barbers like members of the family they know family secrets damn damn good times and bad times he was reaching out to him clearly because he felt like he was an extension of his very own family but Willy was acting like he didn't even know who he was
the music is really beautiful. the lights are always pretty . as long as you remember Jesus was born in the fall. not the winter., youll be fine. if he had been born in December the shepherds would have been down in the barns with the sheep. not outside in the fields. its true. i prefer the facts. santa was never real except as the love between a child and their parents. and yes. at the risk of getting the whole World angry with me..i raised my 2 daughters knowing where the presents came from. me . because my ex never liked giving them much of anything . but they have excellent imaginations and my oldest daughter won awards in high school for singing. classes of 1983 and 1989 here. im class of 1973. and a follower of Christ. not any earthly church.
why nobody asks where is his family? Why is he packing all alone? why don't he hire some new Barbers or beauticians to help keep up with the place? New styles and trends . So selfish him and the mother

I hated her addition to this show.
Michael Keaton was supposed to be in this episode as the tree salesman. I guess his part ended up on the cutting room floor.
His scene was removed for commercials on that broadcast, but the entire episode is available on Tubi, including Michael Keaton's scene.
I knew I recognized that tree guy...!!!@@Xanthas71
I like Willie’s hairstyle better AFTER the barber got his hands on it…..the blonde shaggy curls wasn’t a good look on him, but just my opinion.😏
The little girl looks and sounds like Tom Bosley!!!
Don't they live in California, the part where it doesn't snow :)
Yes. That's why Will said it's not right bringing the tree 🎄 home w the air conditioner going full board. Have a great New Year.
@@BobbieXxoo I am talking how the mom is always wishing for Snow lol
@@michellearseneau8119 Hahaha. 😀😁😂😀😁😂
Lucky them
The show was set in Pasadena but Kate was from Oregon (the farm) where it snows and that's why she always missed snow at Christmas
🎊
And isn’t Timmy the youngest ?
I don.t blame you
I liked when Buddy was the overall kid
The writers of this show always did an outstanding job in making it so real and believable. But the package that arrives for Annie and the note written in the Heidi book are a bit of a stretch......who buys a gift in February and has it delivered on Christmas Eve, with such a formal note as though they knew they would not be there at Christmas to present it personally? Scarcely believable.....didn't work for me. Sorry.
It was absolutely ridiculous.
I can't believe these dolts just pretty much absentmindedly neglected Annie until she slipped right out the door, under their noses, and then very uncharacteristically stayed in denial as Buddy and Doug issued concern. Just a sloppily written episode.

MARGE REDMOND (1924 - 2020)
where's michael keaton as the 'tree salesman'?
I was wondering the same thing. It seems like his scene was edited out!
@@Xanthas71 - perhaps bruce wayne was behind it. trying to erase his past.

I usually like Lily put in that episode in that moment I don't like him he was so standoffish and so cold to the barbershop owner Mr vido how could he be that way to somebody that cut his hair all his life beauticians and Barbers like members of the family they know family secrets damn damn good times and bad times he was reaching out to him clearly because he felt like he was an extension of his very own family but Willy was acting like he didn't even know who he was
Vido is something out of 1950's TV not the 70's. LOL it's so ridiculous!
Willie’s sacrifice of his hair was a big deal back then. Guys had long hair, and guys under 30 wouldn’t be caught dead in a barber shop
the music is really beautiful. the lights are always pretty . as long as you remember Jesus was born in the fall. not the winter., youll be fine. if he had been born in December the shepherds would have been down in the barns with the sheep. not outside in the fields. its true. i prefer the facts. santa was never real except as the love between a child and their parents. and yes. at the risk of getting the whole World angry with me..i raised my 2 daughters knowing where the presents came from. me . because my ex never liked giving them much of anything . but they have excellent imaginations and my oldest daughter won awards in high school for singing. classes of 1983 and 1989 here. im class of 1973. and a follower of Christ. not any earthly church.
These days if Doug demanded wheres breakfast im starving hed be slapped
why nobody asks where is his family? Why is he packing all alone? why don't he hire some new Barbers or beauticians to help keep up with the place? New styles and trends . So selfish him and the mother
(22:50) R. I. P. Character actress Marge Redmond (as MSG Strachey), (1924-2020). She died in February 2020 at the age of 95. Her death was not publicly announced until May. Perhaps best known to television audiences for appearing as "Sarah Tucker" in a series of Cool Whip commercials throughout the late 70s and early to mid 80s.
👍🏽💯📿🛐🤲🏽⚱️
Gosh she looked amazing for her age.
I think she was also on the Flying Nun as the sort of understanding nun who was kind to Sally Field.
BEST EPISODE EVER!!!!
