@@pjpredhomme7699 Yes very good times indeed !! We only had one television in our house when I was a kid in the 70s in our Family room so often it was shared with my parents .,As a kid in high school in the early 80s I was thrilled to have my own tv in my bedroom and a phone Woo Hoo!! Big deal then !! But watching Family and the tons of made for network Television movies was something as a small kid I did a lot in the 70s. Special times with my beloved parents !! Miss you Mom and Dad God Bless you both!!

The writing here is brilliant as is the performance of Sade Thompson in particular. The mixture of the lingering effects of tragedy on present realities mixed with mundane components like slip covers, love, and humor is a true slice of life. I think I appreciate this television series above all others, and for those who were deprived a loving family this show instills what one should be like

I was born the year this show premiered, and in all this time I’d never heard of it until now. I adore it. It’s the type of TV my family gathered around when I was a youth. My Mom passed away a year ago and it brings back many fond memories of her and those moments. So thank you for posting these episodes. You’ve no idea how much of a warm blanket they are to me.

Thanks so much for uploading all these episodes. I was having my babies during this time. The comments about the rubber pants brought back all the memories of washing all those cloth diapers and worrying about the baby pins. You don’t realize how much life changes while you’re living it. I loved this show but didn’t get to see all the episodes before. I really appreciate them now.

Kristy McNichol is so good in this episode! I've worked in the industry and have directed scripted drama in the one hour format. Looking back on this, that young lady blows me away! Child stars so often have terrible, traumatic childhoods, and I can't blame her for running screaming into the night- I've threatened to do it on so many occasions- but I wish desperately she'd come back and work, if only for old times' sake. I'd be happy to write something specifically for her... she deserves better than what she got.

@@debbieschultz9768 I do agree with you. As an old industry hack, I can tell you that Hollywood has almost killed me on more than one occasion, and sometimes leaving is the best choice one can make. I just think it's a tragedy that someone who is so good at what they do (real talent is rare) should be forced to make a choice like that. I think Kristy McNichol was a treasure, and I wish so much I could have worked with her at the height of her career. Of course, I'm only a year younger that her, and at that time I was a mess myself, an aspiring novelist, smoking dope and using heroin and not much good at all to the Hollywood establishment, men like Aaron Spelling...

Did anyone find this episode gut wrenching to watch? I am glad that they replaced Nancy in the second season by hiring Meredith Baxter Birney. I did not like the first actress that played her. Anyway, this was so hard to watch as I felt bad for Buddy. It seemed like she hated Timmy and was acting out when it was that she was still grieving for her late older brother and didn't know how to explain or express it. And she also felt responsible for his death.
That is why it was tough to watch and brought tears to my eyes, but I liked the heart to heart that Doug and Buddy had at the cemetery. Buddy telling her father that she felt like for so many years she was responsible for Timothy's death, and that Nancy and Jeff renaming the baby Timothy was disrespectful.
Doug then told her that no one was at fault for what happened. And that giving the baby Timothy's name wasn't a sign of disrespect, but actually a way to honor him and as a way to help the family to never forget him. Then they both grieve with one another. And at the very end, when they return home, Buddy finally accepts the baby being named Timmy.

Yes. They seemed to have written Nancy to be entitled, self-absorbed and immature Birney did a great acting job. It's kind of weird how they scripted all three kids' characters as selfish, whiny and spoiled. Buddy was better than Willie and Nancy but still spoiled. I guess the writers and directors thought it was cute. I still don't understand why people think the people represented a "heartwarming", realistic "family". The slipcover thing was ridiculous, too.
