I have 6 week old M3 Highland and my consumption is 194 Wh/mi which calculates to just over 5 miles/kw. About half the miles are highway at 70 mph. Insane efficiency.
I’ve had my M3 RWD LR for a bit less than two months now. After 1200 miles the overall efficiency is 206 wh/mile. I did two 220 mile trips, much of which driving 75-80 and got 196 wh/mile with the ugly aero hub caps. The second trip was without the hub caps and got 207 wh/mile. Aside from having a bit of a foul Musky odor, the car is awesome.
I took the aero covers off my m3 awd lr. 4k miles on it. Majority of that is Texas highway. Sitting right at 250 wh/mile for the lifetime of the vehicle. I never drive in chill mode. The car just gets great efficiency and has a ton of power. I really like it a lot. If I had the aero covers on and drive in chill mode I imagine I’d be getting in the 220 to 230 wh/mile range.
As an Uber driver, I have had so many people say they have been ina smaller Tesla than my Model 3 LOL. That's the magic of white interior. It makes it seem so much bigger inside than the black interior. And it's easy to clean and keep clean. Already spilt a 32 oz strawberry smoothie in the passenger seat and vacuumed it up and wiped, no worries.
"It doesn't suck your soul" You nailed it. I had a Supercharged Pontiac G8 GT and a Honda Accord Touring Hybrid as a daily. Replaced both with a Model Y Performance and while it isn't as exciting as the G8, it is way more than the 80 for the 20 for me. I'm a convert to Tesla now after swearing I'd never have one. Such an amazing product.
I personally know a handful of people who how had the same exact experience. People really need to just give the car an honest chance. I converted to Tesla back in 2018 and will be a customer for life. Elon can do and say what ever he wants. Tesla cars are simple fantastic Not perfect but nothing is. They make a really good product overall.
@@JacksonWalter735 - I liked it, the Camry may be better if you drive over 75 on the highway. I like the technical design of the Honda better - ruclips.net/video/QLUIExAnNcE/видео.html that video sold me on the Accord. For my use cases though, I replaced 2 cars with the Tesla. I'd really consider a lease on a Model 3 or Y personally if you aren't keeping long term.
I’m so glad you used your influence for good, not sugar coating weak spots, and giving very direct feedback that this company sorely needs. I’m pretty amazed that an official Tesla account on X shared this video with followers, despite the “tough love” exhibited throughout the video. Way to go, helping not just Tesla but all EV makers watching this video do even better with their next products, including noticing that charging curves haven’t changed for the better in years. Well done!
I think Tesla is going to focus development dollars on reducing pack cost rather than marginally improving already decent charging performance for rare road trips. Love the channel and enthusiasm. Never stop.
I agree this should be their focus. It's the only way a 25k compact will ever happen. This is an amazing car but frankly at 40k starting even with incentives it's too damn expensive!
Tesla limits the charging because it wants you battery to last a very long time. The could easily allow you to charge it harder which would look in the short term but will reduce the battery life
@@Aztasu We'll see how the batteries for the Kia/Hyundai perform after 10 years. They allow faster chargering and keep the charging curve high for a longer period of time but I bet that degrades the battery. I suppose if you are leasing and take many road trips, charging will be important to you and you won't care about the battery. It will be someone else's problem. However, if those cars develope a reputation for poor battery longevity, the resale values will drop and the leases will be more expensive.
@@spacebound1969 M3 LR RWD is only $35k after $7500 instant federal tax credit. As Kyle points out in the video, it is only $30k in Colorado after adding the generous CO state incentive.
I prefer to have a daily with enough room for adults to be comfortable in the back seat, so you can take friends to lunch and no one feels punished for not sitting shotgun. This back seat difference was the reason I chose the Y over the 3, but now I'm glad I did for a variety of reasons. The extra ground clearance is really nice. Dips and driveways are never an issue, but it's not unnecessarily high either. The Y has turned out to be an absolute pleasure to own and drive. Best per dollar vehicle I've ever owned. It's the perfect blend of sporty, functionality, simplicity, dependability, and safety. I even choose it over the X and S with cost as no object. It's probably the best production vehicle ever made.
I think it's really interesting that you chose the Y, when your budget allowed for more premium offerings. I'm curious how you find the ride quality of the Model Y? My mother has a chronic condition where a poor ride can cause pain in her body, but something like a 3rd gen Prius was fine for her
@@joshpipe7755 The premium Teslas add unnecessary weight and complexity that doesn't interest me. The suspension on the Y is one of my only small gripes. That and the sound system performs poorly (tune unintelligible) at low volumes. Neither are a big enough problem to have me looking elsewhere, but I expect improvements in the Juniper refresh. I understand Teslas dilemma with the Model Y suspension. It has to be firm enough to handle the significant amount of power, and introducing something like air or magnetic systems would be too costly (parts, assembly, and warranty) to keep it at a high volume price point. The 3 and Y are Teslas masterpieces. The strategic way Elon built the company created an incentive structure for nearly ideal vehicles.
@@blakmagikk It's designed to prioritize aerodynamics, but I really like the aesthetics. I have the pearl white with the black trim and sporty aftermarket black rims with the chrome logos blacked out as well. I get compliments on it quite frequently which says a lot considering how common they are. A commonality I appreciate because owning the best-selling vehicle in the world comes with advantages. I even got the historical black plates with white lettering that are available in my state and personalized them ANONYMS as a self-deprecating way to play off how many of these are on the road. As an enthusiast, I've owned many vehicles over the years, but nothing compares to how good this one is at so many things I care about while being so easy to live with.
Same. Switching to gigacastings should have made this easy while maintaining stiffness. It almost feels like they just want people to buy a presumably higher-margin Y.
I’m a pretty big driving enthusiast, I have had my Fiesta ST since 2016 and sold it the week this Model 3 came out to buy this Model 3 Long Range RWD. I regret nothing about switching to this exact car. The electric immediateness of the acceleration more than makes up for the lack of engagement that comes from losing a manual gearbox. The turn in is superb for having a much longer wheelbase car. Steering feel is on par with the little Fiesta ST. And get this, the Model 3 has more range than my Fiesta ST everywhere! The two things that will make this a perfect car for me would be track mode and the performance seats. 🤙
I have a 2016 Fiesta ST and will be replacing it for a Tesla soon. Owned it 8 years now and it’s been great but time for a change. Did it take long to sell the FIST?
My 2018 RWD (SN 10,0xx) was the best vehicle ownership experience I’ve ever had. Glad to see they are continuing the tradition on this car. Regarding Tesla’s conservative charging curve: I strongly suspect that Tesla is one of the only manufacturers who is doing everything they can to limit lithium plating on their anodes. Other manufacturers seem to be throwing caution to the wind on this. Time will tell once some of these other brands start to age out.
Edit: I was wrong. “Premium interior” is included but fewer speakers are in RWD versus AWD vehicles. Bummer! - This has the premium interior/audio. The Standard RWD did not, but this is Long Range RWD. All Model 3s (at least in the US) now ship with premium interior. Go configure it then look at pricing details and you’ll see the line item for premium interior included.
I can confirm, my 2018 model 3 LR RWD premium sound system is substantially better than the 2024 LR AWD sound system I test drove a couple weeks ago. The Tesla rep I spoke to said they’ve been hearing that recently from test drivers.
Good video. A few thoughts: 1. Jordan, try the Sexy Knob from Enhance instead of the buttons. It solves the gear change annoyance by allowing you to configure it for drive, reverse, and park. I’ve had no issues with it, and it even predicts the gear after parking. However, the indicator buttons on the same side of the steering wheel can be annoying, especially in traffic circles. I’ve configured the Sexy Knob to handle indicators, which helps. 2. The Commander feature of the Sexy Knob is great. I’ve set it to open the frunk and other automations by holding the driver’s door handle for 3 seconds. While I love Tesla’s UI, I prefer having speed and other basics in front of me. I wish they added a heads-up display. The Teslasy T8 display with CarPlay is fantastic and makes blind spot warnings more obvious than the red LEDs in the speakers, and adds CarPlay for apps Tesla doesn’t have that I use. 3. I initially got the original Highland SR RWD. I was able to terminate the lease at $0 expense (lost the down payment, and debated long over whether to get the LR AWD or the car you reviewed. Ultimately I tested the sound systems side by side, and the performance side by side, and went with the LR AWD at 1.99% APR (monthly payment difference wasn’t all that high). The sound system is significantly better. The car is somewhat quicker but for us folks who come from BMWs, the RWD is more nimble around corners because of its lower weight and rear wheel drive.
Jordan - my vote is red if you stick w/ OEM paint or forest green wrap. The red is really a nice color that changes a lot depending on light conditions.
I think one point that is missed from my road warrior friends.... FSD allows one to drive 20% - 30% further..... My mind isn't focused on every little situation when I'm on the highway with FSD - it rests for a second here and there and that makes a huge difference. I love driving but I love enjoying the overall trip more. My "stable" right now is a Cayenne Turbo, Colorado Diesel and a Model X Performance from Sept 2019 with unlimited supercharging and 160,000 miles on it... The Cayenne is on the market as it seems slow when I get in it... and to be honest - the interior squeaks whenever I move my right arm on the armrest. The Colorado will be sold as soon as I can get the 500 mile CT..... I can honestly say I drive WAY more because the Tesla is just so much fun on so many levels.
Congratulations on your upcoming M3, Jordan! I'm loving my '24 M3 RWD LR, black and white interior, and stealth gray paint. Agree with the review from both of you. Shout out to the Honda CR-Z in the background. I grabbed one the first day they went on sale in the US (August 2010) and traded it in on a 2022 Chevy Bolt EV. The CR-Z was a great sporty little car for the entire 12 years I owned it. Now the M3 is my all time favorite car. The new cars I've bought over the years include: first gen Honda Prelude, 2 first gen Nissan 300ZXs, 8th gen Honda Civic Coupe, Honda CR-Z, Chevy Bolt EV, 2024 Tesla Model Y, and now the 2024 M3. I'd still like to own a Miata/Z-car/Supra type of Tesla. The Roadster is way out of my league. :) Keep the videos coming. Always a pleasure to see a new one show up.
I was wrong in my response below - the “Premium interior” is included but fewer speakers than AWD models. Bummer! - This does have premium interior/audio. Only the Standard range RWD didn’t have premium, but Long range does. I wondered this too, but I just configured one and when you check “pricing details” you’ll see the line item for premium interior included.
@@MitchellCamps I have to agree the Tesla upgraded audio is pretty darn good. Especially when you look what some brands charge for the upgraded system in their cars.
@@MitchellCampsYes, my bad here! “Premium interior” is included but fewer speakers! I’ve always heard it’s still quite good, but I do like having the best.
Quicksilver M3 owner here. There are def issues with QS. I have a few dust/hairs in the paint, one spot where it looks like the paint didn’t adhere, it’s pretty orange-peely, and the “grain” of the plastic panels vs metal panels seems to be a little off. Perfect time to see this is in shade looking at the rear quarter. The plastic bumper panels will take on a slightly different color (QS is VERY reactive to its environment and the direction light hits it) than the metal right next to it. Shift to the side a little and now the plastic will have the color the metal did, and the metal will have to color the plastic did. It’s almost as if the metallic bits have a grain that’s not quite lined up. The orange peel is a shame as silver loves a smooth finish. Looks amazing from 8 or more feet away but up close it’s pretty apparent. Hopefully the paint quality will improve over time.

Took delivery of this car on 9/14/2024, and currently have 5,104 miles on it as of 10/23/2024. This car is the best car I’ve ever had. Did a 50-point inspection on this car when i picked it up…flawless. $42k out the door in California, but worth every penny.
Got mine 9/5 and I’m at 3,200 miles…on a 12,000 mile per year lease. Uh oh. I based the lease on my driving my prior minivan. Maybe that was a bad idea.
How did you buy it for only $42k including tax? The car after the $7500 tax credit is $47,499 then you add sales tax, destination and order fee, you at $52,701🤷🏽♂️
After owning an ID4 for the past three years I just bought a used 2024 MY - road trip to LA from NorCal was a nonissue. Didn't have to worry about BROKEN EA chargers, weird EA app issues, could drive 80mph on I5 and it was just a joy to drive. Charged at bathroom stops, was such a non-issue.
As the owner of an early VIN 2018 LR RWD (#4,5XX VIN) in classic silver metallic, there was a lot about this video that resonates with me. I love the car and the efficiency. Thanks for doing these videos!
My 2024 M3P had more regen when I bought it. After several software upgrades, I now have to use my brakes much more then before. Why can't we have adjustable regen?
If you get the Enhance Auto SEXY buttons (or knob), the UI is able to adjust the regen. Don't know why it takes an aftermarket company to fix that problem, but at least there is an option.
I am totally looking forward to the Tesla Model Y AWD Long Range Juniper edition (2025), if Tesla does the same enhancements to their top seller car, it will literally smoke all the competition!
Excellent content on Out of Spec. Really enjoy all the in depth testing, detail and reviews. I have had 2 previous Model 3’s and now have a 24 Model 3 Performance and also own a Model Y LR. Definitely agree that the value and improvements on the 3 overall is impressive. It is the bench mark in many ways. I 100% agree that while the DC fast charging performance is not bad and very usable I am stunned that, this is one area Tesla has made little improvement in the last 6 years. I have even provided this feedback in surveys to them in recent years that the cars excel in so many areas but they need to improve the DC charging and hold 250kw up to at least 65% before tapering. I have not seen other reviewers point this out. Great to see Out Spec is noting this. Hopefully Tesla is listing and we’ll see them improve this via over the air updates to current cars as well as on future vehicles. Keep the great content coming Out Spec Team!!!!
Just got a brand new lr rwd and having alignment issues since pickup. Took it to service and they did a wheel alignment and same issues. I just took it back to service for 2nd time today. They drive the car 20mph and tell me it’s ok and want me to take a test drive with them tomorrow to show them issue 😢
@@bigpoppa4094 no they didn’t but I took it to service after about 30 miles. I noticed it immediately. I’ve read if you wait they charge around $200. I haven’t experienced that tho.
Just completed a road trip to the mountains of West Virginia from North Carolina in my 2024 Model 3 LR RWD. Completed total trip miles were 1,023 miles, used 211 kWhs for an efficiency of 206 Wh/mi. Mostly 70-75 mph interstate travel. Only stopped two times to supercharge on the return trip (around 500 miles). 12 minutes at the first stop and 10 minutes at the second stop. Arrived home around 20% SOC. Departed that morning at 79% SOC. At least on a 500 mile day trip, do not see any need for any higher/faster charging performance than this car has now!!!!
FSD Supervised I totally love as it is total fun to see how the car reacts on a drive, really for $90.00 a month what fun it is especially following updates to FSD to see how much better it is evolving! Hey Elon how about making a FSD Supervised to 1/2 the price regardless of total FSD, I would buy it! I used it while driving in the dark in unfamiliar surroundings especially on complex cloverleaf highway interchanges, even the best Navigation I mess up regularly but having FSD Supervised make the turns, I never missed a turn!
Jordan, we own 2 highlands. 1 all wheel drive and a performance. Price really wasn’t an object for us We have owned new 911’s over the past several years and after getting into the model 3 it’s so fun to drive the 911 sits more than it used to. Also was about to pull the trigger on a tycan gts and couldn’t do it as it wasn’t 7 times better. We could have leased 7 model 3’s for the price of a model 3 lease. I enjoy everything about the car. We really like the ultra red with white interior.
Interesting take. I'm trying to decide between a used Taycan 4s Cross Turismo and a new model 3 performance. Still need to test drive the Taycan, so my decision may become clearer after that.
I know people are upset about the blinkers and the gift shift, but Full Self driving is where it's at and that's not needed at all. Plus the option they give you to have the vehicle automatically. Assume the gear for you, allowing it to go in reverse or drive based off the assumptions is a huge advantage. I think until it just becomes natural and comfortable to us. We're going to hate it, but everything in a Tesla once felt like that right? Just minimalism felt odd to us. We all fussed about the speedometer on the screen. For how long? Then we realize it's kind of just right there and we're not looking under our steering wheel any longer.
How is your roundabout navigation? Having na stalks is so stupid it must be only simple brain of Elon pushing it and no thinking person would ever consider this. Fortunately there are aftermarket alternatives.
It would be great to see the consumption at 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 mph, for each of the model 3s. Then we could create a graph giving us an idea of what the consumption at for example 75 mph. Also we could determine range for different speed.
I have a model y performance and have tested consumption at 70,75,80,85 and 90 mph and it’s crazy how much of a difference it makes. In my experience the sweet spot for getting good range and going at a reasonable speed seems to be at 75 mph. If I don’t need the range I’ll often go 80+ mph. For example my model y has 90k miles on it and if I go 75 mph I can get roughly 195-200 miles of real world range. At 85 mph I get about 160-170 so pretty significant
@@UltralifeTechThey are more efficient at SUSTAINED slower speeds bc less air resistance. However, pre-conditioning, heating/cooling the cabin when you first get in, idling and accelerating at a higher “rev” than cruising speed WILL increase the consumption of energy. There is also vampire drain: sentry mode, wi-fi updates, etc. People argue with me about this all the time. I know the “estimated efficiency” says city is better than highway, but those tests don’t account for what I mentioned. The 70MPH highway tests they show def demonstrate efficiency & battery capacity, but there are so many other factors. That said, if you’re driving less than 100 miles per day, and you have a level 2 (high-volt AC) charger at home, then you’ll be good to go. If you can’t charge at home, then you’ll be visiting the SuperCharger stations every other day, instead of every week to the gas station. Some days I can drive to and from work (moderate stop & go on the hw), 20 miles total and use 10%, other days I’ll drive 30 miles and it’s used 20%. Yesterday, I drove to school, work, soccer, home 43.4 miles, it used 25% but the odometer shows 11.3kWh … that’s not 25% of a (2017) 75kWh battery. The newer cars (especially this RWD LR M3) are much more efficient, and their batteries are less degraded than mine, I get that. Tessie shows my battery is ~7% degraded. = 69kWh at ~3 miles per kWh, I should get ~ 209 miles 100 to 0. By this math, it actually used ~17kWh that day, not just while driving like the odometer shows.
My consumption is 9.6 kWh on 10,869 kilometers driven so far. Later, on 365 days, I will probably be at 10.5-10.75 kWh for a whole calendar year, Tesla Model 3 Highland rear-wheel drive, 65% on the Germany Highway since July 2, 2024.
Makes sense to me. Fast charging is more important than degradation which is more important than having hundreds of miles of range for normal driving from home. OFC your Wh/mile may vary.
ROFLOL. 😂Kyle likes his fast road trips! My wife and I make more rest stops, and take about one hour for meal stops. The car is always ready to go before we are, so we don't need faster charging.
Been road tripping EVs for over 5 years. A chart with 80% range and charging time would be helpful as charging to 80% is probably a frequent strategy for road charging.
Have you guys come across problems with the the navigation software giving just weird directions. Such as telling you to go left when you should go right, etc?
Having such big range means many users can get away with only charging it up to, say, 60-70% every day. 75-80% if you drive 200 miles per day. This should make for VERY good battery longevity.
I love the very light silver that was put on the Model 3 when it was originally launched. Quicksilver looks nice in the showroom or when you clean it allot he time, but in real live it doesn’t pop as much.
The only reason I am not buying this car is because the Model Y exists. And the only reason I choose a Y is for the hatchback. If they ever put a hatchback on the 3, that will be the car for me.
@@JosiahKeller The Y is larger, heavier, higher centered, less efficient, not always available in LFP/RWD, and has those ugly-ass plastic wheel arches that have become de rigueur on crossovers.
@@JosiahKellerTotally different driving command. The Y is closer to boating, and the 3 is closer to racing. (Super dramatic of course, but you get it haha)
I also wish they made a bit smaller hatchback in Europe to go after VW Golf sized market. But we have discussed it for a long time already. Tesla is still very "American" in its approach. Model 3 is not a big car by US standards but in Europe there is tons smaller stuff driving around currently waiting mainly for Chinese and perhaps French? disruption?
Regarding customization. I wish Tesla would offer 1” smaller rims to the performance cars. They could sell them at the same price. This move would drive more buyers to the Performance. Many buyers prefer comfort and range and would love a 1” smaller rim to get those benefits. And Tesla would sell more Performance cars at same price at lower COGS.
As I understand it, cylindrical cells (Tesla) are by design more rugged and therefore safer than pouch/prismatic cells. Also, I believe a replacement battery for the Kia & Porsche is twice cost of a Tesla battery. Does Kia make money on their EVs or are they subsidizing the cost of a more expensive battery?
I'm from a different market, but in Europe, for insurance purposes, they did a cost breakdown of fixing damaged batteries in percentage of the original value of the car. Tesla's Model 3 battery costs 23% of the value of the car to replace, WV ID3 89%, Ioniq 5 is 105%😂 It costs more to fix it than to buy another car, which is insane. Shows why Tesla is the only one currently making money on it's cars, yet they are so competitive price wise.
@@badbasicit’s not the actual cost of the pack, it’s what the dealer has to do to recover the loss of the battery. ie it has to purchase the donor vehicle and recover a battery for replacement. Batteries are the main reason why EV production is bottlenecked. So they’re not making spares. There are no parts distributors for battery packs. There are instead, refurbished batteries, depending on the car and age / model. Simply because an aftermarket battery can’t be warrantied or insured. The dealer won’t warranty a battery replacement. Neither will the manufacturer. Think about how you could achieve this without putting up the insurance cost for fire protection of a car you’re not in control over. This is not practical - but it’s due to the manufacturer vs dealer exchanges. The main problem with replacement battery packs is that the insurance and plate is tied to the original specification of the car. The battery is not a dealer replacement part or can be refreshed / repaired by most dealers. Which is why Hyundai almost has to replace the entire car itself - because it is replacing the car, in effect.
@@badbasic lol what a bunch of bullshit. Tesla is the most expensive to repair and their build quality and quality of components is the worst among comparable cars in the price range. There have been many tests about that, for example from the ADAC in Germany
I have a 2019 m3 sr+. I'm jealous of the range on this one, mine is just a little over 200 miles. After going thru a recent power outage and having to charge my portable batteries using the 12v outlet, I really wish they would include a 120v 10 or 15 amp outlet.
Great review! Squares pretty well with my ‘21 M3SR+. I’m envious of the LRRWD’s range and better efficiency, but I’m keeping mine for the foreseeable future. Wrap it *yellow*! That’ll pop on thumbnails, too. Also suggest silver Martian MW03s. 👌🏻
Am very conflicted because I really like the Model 3 but I don't know how I feel about the company/CEO - I'm in exactly the conflicted category. Obviously I sold all my shares after the last event they did with the apocalypse bus stuff. I wonder how much that affects their sales. Maybe it doesn't matter if they're sold out all the time. It gives me enough trepidation that the stupid steering wheel is enough to push me over the edge onto buying something else (i4/5) or an old Tacan.
To me, charging should depend on the cars battery pack condition and tesla has the best software to monitor this which makes me question most car brands that have consistent charging curves in different conditions. I have feeling that brands like taycan giving high speeds to "impress customers" ignoring other factors, might ruin their battery packs in a long run
RWD vs Dual Motor... How big a deal is winter traction? I have a 2023 RWD in Seattle but haven't yet experienced winter driving with it. I would think this [traction] would be an even bigger deal in Colorado? But maybe the RWD traction control, Slip Start, and overall weight distribution make this less of a issue? Great video! Thanks.
Wrap it in STEK DYNOforged-carbon - gives it that flaked-carbon look, it's so awesome. My preference is for the Red Wine color, but Metal looks good too - kind of a mix of Stealth Grey as a base, with Quicksilver accents in the flakes.
I have a very simple question: How does Jordan justify having a RWD car in Colorado when we know it'll be winter here soon? I'm tempted to buy a RWD Tesla but I'm concerned with the performance in the winter time since I'll still have to drive regularly in the winter on country roads in the midwest. I understand winter tires will be a must but AWD just seems like a better idea
Since Model S, Tesla's had the torque vectoring worked out on these cars. Kyle covered again for this video. Even with RWD, there is no down-throttle spinning, or going sideways, in snow. Hard to induce. Just shuts right down. Snow tires and you're good. The weight center helps with these cars.
Somewhat correct, the charging port inlet and the battery cells would also overheat after a while if you would continue to let it rip with those high amps, the thermal capabilities aren't up there where they should be. That's why you can overheat the batteries on Teslas very quickly when you do continuous acceleration and de-acceleration on the highway. Yes, a lot of EVs doesn't perform that well over a long time in this scenario but especially Tesla seems to struggle with it. But the cable definetly is one major weak point.
Hi Kyle, I have had the S3XY buttons for 1 year love the Autopilot lane keep re-capture after doing lane change, the Battery preconditioning to none Tesla superchargers, and in Winter I have messed around with the Regen and wished Tesla would incorporate all these features in all their cars. One very very important mode is accessory power on after you leave and lock the vehicle, this is what I use in my rear trunk DC Fridge and now this feature has been disabled so wrong Tesla!
Hi from Spain, love your channel and glad that both Dave and Jordan have new Model 3's I purchased my Model 3 in Ultra Red last December before the performance came out. I have been thinking about getting the Enhauto S3XY buttons commander to add continuous autopilot. I read that you can also switch the front motor off with it too. Will this increase the range, do you think it could be possible to get near to the the Long Range RWD numbers?
This car's "Seats" were mentioned as tough, for cross-country during the I-90 surge by one of the drivers. No question, Highland seats are more firm than previous (a reason to get the current MY). The afformentioned sound system, brightness of the headliner and carnival "ambient" lighting are also downsides, to me. Dark is simply easier on the eyes, and therefore my preference.
How does the Tesla Model 3 compare to the charging curve of the IONIQ 5 & 6 800V architecture?? Doesn't the IONIQ 5 & 6 charge from 10% to 80% in ~20 minutes?? I could also charge the IONIQs at Tesla charging infrastructure!!
@@larry4fire a lot of people think the aero covers are ugly but they’re not that bad. They look 100x better than the 1st gen aero wheels
I hit 186wh/mi today.
Try dropping to 65 mph, I heard that there is a noticeable change in terms of battery consumption..
My last gas car was a Pontiac G8 GT. Got a Model S in 2014 and never went back to gas.
@@richardmorin4518 How's the 2014 S holding up?
How did you like your Honda Accord Touring Hybrid? I'm trying to decide between that and the new Toyota Camry that comes hybrid by default
That ultra red is definitely the best color on the new Model 3!
@@scottstowell7 The quicksilver is cool also.
Black Interior Quicksilver RWD LR here, best car on the market for the price by a long shot.
The could easily allow you to charge it harder which would look in the short term but will reduce the battery life
@@allangraham970 no, Tesla's charging just sucks
@@kenhiett5266 thank you so much!

I picked up a Quicksilver 2025 Long Range RWD last week.... I'm loving the color. I like how it looks different depending on how the light is outside.
I just got the Ultra Red with White interior. Love it.
Red with white interior. Excellent video as usual, guys. 🚗 🇺🇸 🔌 ⚡
I just wished it had a fastback opening. That would just make it 100 times more desirable.
And while at it please improve the charging performance
Would have taken too many sells away from the Y
Same. Switching to gigacastings should have made this easy while maintaining stiffness. It almost feels like they just want people to buy a presumably higher-margin Y.
@@jorge3234 sorry but I disagree partially.
Great point and you are absolutely right
I’m a pretty big driving enthusiast, I have had my Fiesta ST since 2016 and sold it the week this Model 3 came out to buy this Model 3 Long Range RWD.
My friend from work has a Red Model 3 with White interior and it is gorgeous spec.
If you come from a mrcedes or audi rwd sedan this is all you need. At this price/power/range there is nothing better out there. Game over man
My 2018 RWD (SN 10,0xx) was the best vehicle ownership experience I’ve ever had.
If this car was available with the premium audio, even as a paid option, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.
The base audio system is better than 75-80% of cars in this price range IMO. Also, they make audio kits for it if you want to upgrade.
Edit: I was wrong. “Premium interior” is included but fewer speakers are in RWD versus AWD vehicles. Bummer!
-
This has the premium interior/audio. The Standard RWD did not, but this is Long Range RWD. All Model 3s (at least in the US) now ship with premium interior. Go configure it then look at pricing details and you’ll see the line item for premium interior included.
Agree 100%! After experiencing the original UHFS in my 2013 Model S, premium audio has to be installed for me to consider the car!
From what I hear, the nine speaker audio system on this car is amazing.
I can confirm, my 2018 model 3 LR RWD premium sound system is substantially better than the 2024 LR AWD sound system I test drove a couple weeks ago. The Tesla rep I spoke to said they’ve been hearing that recently from test drivers.
Jordan is finally getting an EV!
When are you reviewing the Charlotte White hall SC? its open about a week now!
He deserves it
Maybe he’s learnt his driving limitations
Good video. A few thoughts:
Enhance Auto is coming out with S3XY Stalks soon as well.
I have a 2024 M3P. Amazing car, sound system is best i have heard. Lots of room, not small at all. M3 overall is best car out.
I just wish Tesla would give this car the premium audio, I'd heavily consider it then.
There has to be some way to retrofit premium audio as it was pre highland.
I was wrong in my response below - the “Premium interior” is included but fewer speakers than AWD models. Bummer!

Should have probably waited for the 2025 Juniper
Awesome Jordan, congrats!
Track mode has adjustable regen; whether or not it actually gives you any more, or if it's just maxed out all the time, I don't know.
I have the same car and havent noticed a difference in regen
I am totally looking forward to the Tesla Model Y AWD Long Range Juniper edition (2025), if Tesla does the same enhancements to their top seller car, it will literally smoke all the competition!
Every one of your videos provides practical value. Thanks for your creativity and generous sharing! I’ve learned so much from you!"
The FSD auto park feature is my favorite use of it, parks perfectly inbetween the lines every time no matter how tight the space

My vote is for standard silver with white interior with a wrap.
The BENCHMARK of the industry -Jordan WOW!!!

Do you notice a difference in ride comfort between the AWD and performance?
Curious if the performance adaptive suspension is the same in comfort.
Glad to hear that the sound system on the base model is good.
How much better is the premium, really? That's a huge selling point to me.
And for people that want stalks, can buy from 3rd party.
Re: Lack of stalks; I really like the gear selector / park on the screen. I still would rather have a turn signal stalk.
I’ve been thinking similar. I also heard EVs are very efficient at ~30 mph which usually is short hops to the grocery store for me
I have a model y performance and have tested consumption at 70,75,80,85 and 90 mph and it’s crazy how much of a difference it makes. In my experience the sweet spot for getting good range and going at a reasonable speed seems to be at 75 mph. If I don’t need the range I’ll often go 80+ mph. For example my model y has 90k miles on it and if I go 75 mph I can get roughly 195-200 miles of real world range. At 85 mph I get about 160-170 so pretty significant
so many variables it would be hard to be honest
Kyle: I want it to hold peek power for longer, I don't care about degradation!
Also Kyle: I only charge to 50% at home, for longevity
😅
looool
Makes sense to me. Fast charging is more important than degradation which is more important than having hundreds of miles of range for normal driving from home. OFC your Wh/mile may vary.
ROFLOL. 😂Kyle likes his fast road trips!
My wife and I make more rest stops, and take about one hour for meal stops. The car is always ready to go before we are, so we don't need faster charging.
Been road tripping EVs for over 5 years. A chart with 80% range and charging time would be helpful as charging to 80% is probably a frequent strategy for road charging.
Congrats Jordan! It’s a hell of a car!
Yeah what dey said
I have last year's version of this car and agree that it does so many things right
Have you guys come across problems with the the navigation software giving just weird directions. Such as telling you to go left when you should go right, etc?
Having such big range means many users can get away with only charging it up to, say, 60-70% every day. 75-80% if you drive 200 miles per day. This should make for VERY good battery longevity.
How are rear drive only teslas in the winter with winter tires? Decent still?
I love the very light silver that was put on the Model 3 when it was originally launched.
Quicksilver looks nice in the showroom or when you clean it allot he time, but in real live it doesn’t pop as much.
The only reason I am not buying this car is because the Model Y exists. And the only reason I choose a Y is for the hatchback. If they ever put a hatchback on the 3, that will be the car for me.
The Y is basically just the 3 but with a hatchback, so…
@@JosiahKeller Well it is a quite a lot taller and has a more up-right seating position, I want the Model 3 form factor with a hatch 🥲

Midnight silver with black interior is beautiful.

I love my model 3. Gonna order one of these soon. I also love fsd
Nice to hear FSD 12.5.6.x is coming to The Hogback Challenge when you have it 🙌
Jordan, I would wrap it yellow. I have seen someone with it and it looks amazing.
I have the 2024 dual motor made in Shanghai, I believe that is the LG battery, any pros or cons with that battery?
Red and white interior is the best combo
As I understand it, cylindrical cells (Tesla) are by design more rugged and therefore safer than pouch/prismatic cells.
Also, I believe a replacement battery for the Kia & Porsche is twice cost of a Tesla battery. Does Kia make money on their EVs or are they subsidizing the cost of a more expensive battery?
I'm from a different market, but in Europe, for insurance purposes, they did a cost breakdown of fixing damaged batteries in percentage of the original value of the car. Tesla's Model 3 battery costs 23% of the value of the car to replace, WV ID3 89%, Ioniq 5 is 105%😂
It costs more to fix it than to buy another car, which is insane.
I have a 210 mile round trip commute. Deal with extreme cold in the winter. Would you recommend this spec or the AWD M3 for my use case?
Heavily tinting the windows with the white paint and black wheels looks so good imo. Ultra Red would be number 2 option.
How many horse power does this version (rwd long range ) have? I couldn’t find that spec in the video.
I have an old gen1 Model 3 SR+.
I would like to upgrade maybe for the performance? i have fomo to lose on that and get a lesser model
Wrap it in a color like the new rivian blue/grey color and with the white interior.. would look sick!
My new 2024 model 3 I just picked up last week has the off centered wheel alignment, did y’all do that at Tesla?
To me, charging should depend on the cars battery pack condition and tesla has the best software to monitor this which makes me question most car brands that have consistent charging curves in different conditions. I have feeling that brands like taycan giving high speeds to "impress customers" ignoring other factors, might ruin their battery packs in a long run
I disagree. If that was the case, they wouldn't give pretty much the same guarantee/warranty on the battery pack 🤷♂️
No, Tesla's charging capability just sucks
I'm weird. I'm an Android guy, but also a Tesla guy
Not weird at all, you prefer the best products
Not weird at all, you prefer the best products
Both appeal to tech oriented people, an obvious combination.
There is no real alternative to Tesla, there are many alternatives to Apple
Same. It's not weird.
Rwd with winter tires are better than Awd with regular tires. Any day!!
How about a TMY vs TM3 RWD LR comparison ? How much does the added size cost on efficiency ?
Enjoy your new car, Jordan!
Question, if they upped the charging under the curve, but it decreased battery longevity to approximately 125,000 mi would you be okay with that?
Its not the cell which limits the charging its the cables with that ow voltage and high amperage P=R*I^2
Somewhat correct, the charging port inlet and the battery cells would also overheat after a while if you would continue to let it rip with those high amps, the thermal capabilities aren't up there where they should be.
Ultra Red with the black interior!
Can you test the S3XY buttons with the Front/Rear motor disabled to see if it actually have any efficiency benefits for the AWD Tesla?
Great choice Jordan. Congrats
My friend just bought this car the exact one does it have a sport mode on it she bought it brand new
Please test the Model 3 with and without the aero covers to see how much range it loses. I have one and would love to know.
Two wireless phone heaters 😂😂 that’s what we need talk about 28:32
Is the speed boost option available for this vehicle?
Great video! The white interior should be more expensive and have the premium sound system.
