Abba literally saved my life. I was bullied severely every day at school. It got to the point I became suicidal in the 6th grade. When the torture felt more than I could bear, I put this album on, specifically this song, put on my headphones, and laid on my bed letting their voices carry me away to where no one could hurt me. I'm 48 now, and every time I hear this song I am taken to a place of peace and calm.
Another witness of the transcending power music has, not to be underestimated - this song is so cinematic and philosophical. Your touching story brought a 😥 to my eye when listening. Happen to be of the same age, and love the last line you wrote. Thanx for sharing.
Mikey Jules69 I was in my teens when this album came out, but was just as blown away as you. This is the song that really did it for me, you can actually feel youself soaring with the Eagle. Music is a great escapeism that's for sure and no song is better than this to set your imagination alight! Glad you survived the bullying. I too was bullied at school so I empathise with you. Music helped me through it all too, this song came a little late to help me through my torture's, but it's certainly helped me through some dark times in my life and is one of those songs you go back to in times of need.
MikeyJules69 I hear you. My sister and I would save our money to buy any new album and play them over and over. Got us through a difficult childhood dealing with our mother's mental illness and eventual suicide. Haven't listened to ABBA much lately, other than a greatest hits CD. Maybe it's time to revisit the joy and power of these songs.
Thank You for finding a safer route, and if it matters,......I'm glad you are still with us. We are NOT going thru this whole political bullshit without you buddy....Oh no you are stuck right here with us xD God Bless.
Agree. Sensational tune and inspired decision to feature it as the first track on The Album. Sublime outro which may have been scratched on many vinyl records due to hasty needle placement from attempts to fast-track to the more popular "Take A Chance On Me".
My parents bought me ABBA: The Album for my 11th birthday. It was my first-ever LP, and I was thrilled. I used to spend hours listening to the songs and poring over the album design. 'Eagle' blew me away. For a kid from Basildon in the 70s, it was like being fired into Heaven..
+SummerSwimmer1079 My experience was similar. I got ABBA: The Album when I was 17 and a kid from Colchester in the 1970s. "Eagle" carried me away. I dared to believe I was the eagle... and moved to Fife.
This is my favorite Abba song. The background performance is beautiful and you can listen to it just by playing it. When you play the electric guitar, you can almost imagine an eagle flying. I like the part where it gradually fades out at the end! !
One of my all favorite Abba tracks, I always play this when i am flying on a plane, flying high high I'm a bird in the sky, flying over mountains forests and seas. BEAUTIFUL. ✈✈✈🦅🦅🦅
Every time hear this, I am reminded of my PR visit to the 82nd Airborne Division in the 80"s. What an experience!! Such bravery and dedication. Thank all of you for your service!!
+Milton Mac I love this kind of music. This is why I'm weird. And the funny thing is I am an 18 year old male millennial and I adore this stuff. I love being different. Anyone know about Diffrent Strokes? My favorite character is Kimberly Drummond. I make a lot of anime fan art of her. I know she wasn't origionally. I just love drawing anime.
Timeless!⌚🎶..beautiful song...I fell in with this song in the 70's having had this albumn.. NZ once had the biggest Eagle🦅 in the world called the Haast Eagle🇳🇿 👍
The first time I listened to this LP on my parents' sound system I was transported into another world. Amazing group ...Coming from a professional classical musician.
“Eagle” (1977) is the LONGEST ABBA SONG EVER RELEASED; the album version runs to 5:51‼️ The theme of this heavily orchestrated piece is similar to that of countless others where birds feature in the title or the lyrics. But “Eagle” had a more specific inspiration : Richard Bach’s “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” (1st edition : 1970)❕ Dixit Björn Ulvaeus : “I was trying TO CAPTURE THE SENSE OF FREEDOM that I got from reading that book.” Worth a listen… STILL❗️ 💙🦅💛
I bought this album when I was in high school. Brings back good memories. I was an American who loved ABBA and I actually ran home after buying this album. I couldn't wait to hear it. I don't think another band had me running home to hear a new album.
Found this album on vinyl at work today in pristine shape and decided to play it. This was the first song I heard and I was completely wowed by it! I mean just completely taken away. It's pretty rare for me to actually find a song that does that for me and this one blew it out if the park. This is seriously one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard and I'm kinda obsessed with it now. Can't believe I'd never heard it before. Brought that album home for free too :)
Abba Benny Anigfrid Bjorn Agnetha Thank you for being unique... when I was 15 years old my musical world was called ABBA. I met so many nice swedish people including a nice man called Martti Kreander...do you remember him BJORN? He was such a wonderful person....ABBA I am now 54 years old and you are forever my number one. In my Country you are still well known. From Costa Rica Central America Sonia Ivonne
Yes they are still very popular in my Country, when they sang in Spanish that was such a beautiful thing also...I had all their albums even letters from ABBA fan club from sweden They are they will be my number one forever Abba is the best in my life.
Without question ABBA is the best musical group of all time. This might be the best song they ever recorded, but they have so many great songs. This was the era my children grew up in!
Magnificent audio! Long live ABBA and all of the folks who created these evergreen songs! I was born way after ABBA's heyday but ABBA is my colossal favorite. And Eagle is arguably one of my favorites!
I was one of the first to have it in Slovakia, the day after it was released in Sweden, coincidentally. Very proud of it. :-) Anyway, wonderful album, perfect studio work, sound and arangement. Wow. Thanks, Agnetha, Frida, Bjorn, Benny, also after all those years.
What a music...uplifting, wonderful, it makes happy ..since so many years...I'm a fan since I was 11, now I am 54 an I still love them and their marvelous music
This is the best ABBA song and no one, even this one chick I briefly hung with who was a huge ABBA fan, seems to have heard of. Like Stairway to Heaven or Radar Love, absolute majesty.
Jeremy Vine played this on BBC Radio 2 today (for those from outside the UK who might read this). I'm 37, had never heard it before and can't work out why, because it's so damn good!
At the ABBA: Voyage concerts they have a fantastic new video for this song. It shows a truly epic journey of a Sami adventurer on a quest for... something, through a fantasy landscape. And ends on a cliffhanger...
If I want to fly i don't need a plane. I just listen to Eagle and I am ....... " Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze High, high, what a feeling to fly Over mountains and forests and seas And to go anywhere that I please There's no limit to what I feel, we climb higher and higher Am I dreaming or is it all real? " ( ABBA 1977 )
This takes me back to my Aunt and Uncle back in the early 80’s , great memories , they are no longer with us but listening to this takes me back to better times
After my visit to the 82nd, I did 3 static line parachute jumps just to try and experience what these brave people did everyday. OMG, what a thrill and life-altering experience. God bless these brave men and women!
Way too late and disrespectful in my opinion. . ABBA does not need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...They are right up there with any of the all time greatest bands and true music lovers know it.... It is the Hall of Fame that should be honoured and oh so lucky to have them. Better late than never I suppose
This takes me right back to being a kid of about 7 or 8 & my mum playing this album loud on our old stereo & me absolutely loving it while being in total awe of the album artwork.
Hey, again! This song is one of my absolute favorites. I couldn't remember what year it came from, but I was probably about 14 years old and fell for it. I still have the LP left behind me at my old player. It feels so free somehow.
My favorite verse: As all good friends, we talk all night And we fly wing to wing I have questions and they know everything There's no limit to what I feel We climb higher and higher Am I dreaming, or is it all real?
I saw somewhere that Bjorn and Benny wrote this as kind of a tribute to the very popular American rock band Eagles (who were very popular in the States and not so much elsewhere; they were a one hit wonder in most of Europe).
No, they did not write it as a tribute to Eagles. Eagles as a band were one hit wonder that's sure, and even that one hit Is not their hit at all, it is the Jethro Tull song called We used to know recorded many years before - it is ways better than the Eagles junk.
This is the best version IMHO - better than the Wembley live version. So cinematic, dabbing in prog rock, the closest ABBA got to, say, Pink Floyd or Allan Parsons project. Very, very good. If it only was longer!
I really feel like flying when I hear this abbas wonder majical song. Oh my god how can I forget their majic voices and fantastic songs. I started hearing abbas songs round about 35 years before and still am forced to hear almost all day. I am unable to explain about their voices furthermore. I feel it like new gen song and not old gen. Thankyou for the music, thank you Lord.
thank youuuuu for the music, for the memories and for being a part of who I am. .I don't think they ever understood just how important they were...and are!
This was the first ABBA song which lyrics I had learned. I love to sing this song. It's so epic and full of emotions :) I kinda feel like an eagle. I feel free and not worried :)
They came flying from far away, Now I'm under their spell I love hearing the stories that they tell They've seen places beyond my land And they've found new horizons They speak strangely but I understand. And I dream I'm an eagle And I dream I can spread my wings Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze. High, high, what a feeling to fly Over mountains and forests and seas And to go anywhere that I please. As all good friends we talk all night, And we fly wing to wing I have questions and they know everything There's no limit to what I feel, We climb higher and higher Am I dreaming or is it all real? Is it true I'm an eagle? Is it true I can spread my wings? Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky (I'm an eagle) I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze. High, high, what a feeling to fly (What a feeling) Over mountains and forests and seas And to go anywhere that I please And I dream I'm an eagle And I dream I can spread my wings Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky (I'm an eagle) I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze High, high, what a feeling to fly (What a feeling) Over mountains and forests and seas Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky (I'm an eagle) I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
ABBA, the best there ever was and ever will be. This song, Eagle, and their I Have A Dream song, prove they were and are a gift from God, a reward to us for putting up with idiotic religions and brain dead politicians. ABBA's every song made people Happy!!!
Hey Janett, found this comment of yours here, though not the one you describe, but if you're that desperate,go back to the basics and Google the following: ABBA I have a dream Schutzengel51 RUclips and see what you come up with and if you recognise Jutta's video...
Alex...You''re right, this ain't it. The ABBA Eagle has a picture of an Eagle, 4:27 duration, Published Nov 27, 2009. Get it, and my comments are page one, 3 mos & 6 mos. .Yes, I'll keep trying to find my way back to Jutta's I have a dream. If I get it, you'll know.
Fist heard age 6. Even then you couldn't convince me that this was not an abduction song. Maybe I hear with different ears. Still one of the most beautiful songs I know.

MikeyJules69 That’s amazing! Thank you for sharing this personal story. Take care
Another witness of the transcending power music has, not to be underestimated - this song is so cinematic and philosophical. Your touching story brought a 😥 to my eye when listening. Happen to be of the same age, and love the last line you wrote. Thanx for sharing.

This is one of the absolut best hits ABBA have ever made
I see what you did there. Coincidentally, I am on my third vodka shot..........
Agree. Sensational tune and inspired decision to feature it as the first track on The Album.
Sublime outro which may have been scratched on many vinyl records due to hasty needle placement from attempts to fast-track to the more popular "Take A Chance On Me".
Have ever,.....
lol
@German Morawski a lot by u, for sure
@@wde8160 funny ? and why ?
This music is like from another world. It should have over 100 million views.
Just listen what Jaffe Schaffer did with the guitar at 4:40
It should have not, not everybody can feel this song.
this album is already a sophisticated masterpiece
The last 60 seconds of this are pure musical indulgence. I could listen to it for hours on a loop. Carries you away somewhere else.
My fav bit too...I'm a guitar player !
For me this is ABBA's finest album
I said the same thing on their performance video link.
I love this ABBA tune memory’s of holiday in westward ho! In the 80s north Devon with family when I was a child
Sounds like the moody blues… abba doing borderline prog rock. Awesome
This song is pure magic, really makes you feel like you're gliding along like an eagle.
My gosh, they were amazing! Their music goes into your soul like no other!
yes, their music goes into your soul creating a hole in your soul
if you don't get the joke, you're not a TRUE abba fan
My parents bought me ABBA: The Album for my 11th birthday. It was my first-ever LP, and I was thrilled. I used to spend hours listening to the songs and poring over the album design. 'Eagle' blew me away. For a kid from Basildon in the 70s, it was like being fired into Heaven..

What a great ABBA memory! Thank you for sharing it with us!
My dad bought me The Album-cassette in summer 1978, which I played very much in the car mostly, when it was standing in our yard. :)
I feel you!
Je l'avait eu pour mes 14 ans (il était sorti en février 1977).
The best group of all time
back when solid song writing had solid vocals...
This is my favorite Abba song. The background performance is beautiful and you can listen to it just by playing it. When you play the electric guitar, you can almost imagine an eagle flying. I like the part where it gradually fades out at the end! !
Two of the greatest composers of all time, I went to watch the movie and hide in the cinema so I could watch it again
One of my all favorite Abba tracks, I always play this when i am flying on a plane, flying high high I'm a bird in the sky, flying over mountains forests and seas. BEAUTIFUL. ✈✈✈🦅🦅🦅
One of the best songs ever created..
The intro is amazing, especially listened with headphones! Not only because a guitar, but Eagle should included in all time synthesizer collection!
Great great opening
Every time hear this, I am reminded of my PR visit to the 82nd Airborne Division in the 80"s. What an experience!! Such bravery and dedication. Thank all of you for your service!!
I was born in 1966 in Hamburg. My first love: The Beatles. My second: ABBA. What else could come? :-D
It sounds like Vangelis, i greet You from Argentina ! 😃
How they can cut that awesome guitar solo out of the shortened versions is beyond me.
Yes, any cut version of this song just isn't the same. Is like a crime
+Milton Mac I love this kind of music. This is why I'm weird. And the funny thing is I am an 18 year old male millennial and I adore this stuff. I love being different. You are not weird. You have good taste for music and art, that's all.
It's just the single edit.
They played Bohemian Rhapsody...
Timeless!⌚🎶..beautiful song...I fell in with this song in the 70's having had this albumn.. NZ once had the biggest Eagle🦅 in the world called the Haast Eagle🇳🇿 👍
I wish this song to be played at my funeral. Love ABBA forever !!!
The first time I listened to this LP on my parents' sound system I was transported into another world. Amazing group ...Coming from a professional classical musician.
One of my favourite ABBA tracks, nice to hear the original long version
Love the guitars!
And the synthesizers!
They are parts of my person.. they are my childhood- they are one of the reasons that shaped me a person that didn´t give up.. despite all odds.
Me too, well said
Bonnie Hörk you said so good 😃
Oh me too... some of the happiest moments of my childhood stem from their music.
they are the masters of the universe!!!!!!!!!!!!
anni- vonne True!
musician masters,... ;)
mistresses too
Greatest Band from former times untill eternity. I love them so much, my childhood is shaped by their music,....

This is great...this is amazing... I love it.. The most best song.. 🇦🇱
Abba has an innocence about their sound, but if you really listen they have a deep meaning to them. they seem to give you peace.
I love this song!!! I always have, and always will!!!
WHAT A ROMANTIC BEAUTIFUL THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHO NEEDS HASHISH???? THIS WILL TAKE YOU HIGHHHHH.
japicic Gosh! What a great comment! And so true.
ABBA fan from Nigeria.😊
Abba Benny Anigfrid Bjorn Agnetha Thank you for being unique...
when I was 15 years old my musical world was called ABBA.

Don't forget their "5th member" recording engineer Michael B Tretow.
What a music...uplifting, wonderful, it makes happy ..since so many years...I'm a fan since I was 11, now I am 54 an I still love them and their marvelous music
This is their definitive album track. A timeless classic
My favourite Abba song! And I' ve heard every single one of the other. I miss them so much
This is music of very high quality and ABBA great level group in pop music forever .
This song is amazing, stirs the mind and the soul, dream away.
Abba legend group.Brilliant voices.Magic music.Abba for ever !!!
Best parts: synth intro and 4:48 the guitar are flying like an eagle from right to left.:)
This is the best ABBA song and no one, even this one chick I briefly hung with who was a huge ABBA fan, seems to have heard of. Like Stairway to Heaven or Radar Love, absolute majesty.
Eagle song is another masterpiece.. very spiritual or is it inspirational? Also sparks nostalgie ...LOVE ABBA
Jeremy Vine played this on BBC Radio 2 today (for those from outside the UK who might read this). I'm 37, had never heard it before and can't work out why, because it's so damn good!
Me encanta ABBA desde siempre, es mi grupo musical favorito!
Their very best song from their very best album (in terms of both songs and cover art).
At the ABBA: Voyage concerts they have a fantastic new video for this song. It shows a truly epic journey of a Sami adventurer on a quest for... something, through a fantasy landscape. And ends on a cliffhanger...
Pure natural beauty.
Heard this on the radio but the frequency was gravelly; not a single lyric could be heard. But I was certain the melody was ABBA and now I'm here.
Had also listen to it today - but with a better frequency 🙂👍
I'm thrilled. Awesome sound
I was born knowing this album - Eagle was my first memorable song!
I'd love Move On to be my last x
my fav Abba song xx
Killer, killer song I love this
If I want to fly i don't need a plane.
I just listen to Eagle and I am .......
" Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please
There's no limit to what I feel, we climb higher and higher
Am I dreaming or is it all real? "
( ABBA 1977 )
Truly a amazing band who blessed us many fine tunes, this being one of them. So glad to know there back magical,
Listening to this takes me back to being 13 again. Thanks for sharing xx
This takes me back to my Aunt and Uncle back in the early 80’s , great memories , they are no longer with us but listening to this takes me back to better times
Best album 👍Thanks from Poland 2020
Epic and harmonic. BB brougt throuout their nordic folkmusic heritage music for the world that will live for ever!
Definitely one of their best songs. Magical!
After my visit to the 82nd, I did 3 static line parachute jumps just to try and experience what these brave people did everyday. OMG, what a thrill and life-altering experience. God bless these brave men and women!
Grow up with this album.
Yes. me too. Thumbs up
I also grew up with this album!!!
My dad had this album, so I grow up with this too
ABBA was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010
Way too late and disrespectful in my opinion. . ABBA does not need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...They are right up there with any of the all time greatest bands and true music lovers know it.... It is the Hall of Fame that should be honoured and oh so lucky to have them.

My favourite ABBA track ever since I heard it all those years ago when ABBA The Album first came out.
The genius guitar work of Lasse Wellander. 👏
Actually, I think its Janne Schaffer (at the end).
The supergroup!
this song very good from iraq
My favorite verse:
As all good friends, we talk all night
And we fly wing to wing
I have questions and they know everything
There's no limit to what I feel
We climb higher and higher
Am I dreaming, or is it all real?
Another great album. Love this song
I saw somewhere that Bjorn and Benny wrote this as kind of a tribute to the very popular American rock band Eagles (who were very popular in the States and not so much elsewhere; they were a one hit wonder in most of Europe).

Magnifique chanson , c'est aussi ma préférée de l'album , et la guitare solo à la fin est super génial
This is a very good one from Abba!
This song has made me flying high and high when ever I listen Eagle. Thank You Abba for this great song❤❤❤❤
Timeless, incredible, immense! A bit "underrated" song that proves to be one of the best gems of the group.
This is the best version IMHO - better than the Wembley live version. So cinematic, dabbing in prog rock, the closest ABBA got to, say, Pink Floyd or Allan Parsons project. Very, very good. If it only was longer!

Mimo tylu minionych lat z ABBA uwielbiam ich do dzisiaj...
I love ABBA for ever!
I'm flying!!
This was the first ABBA song which lyrics I had learned. I love to sing this song. It's so epic and full of emotions :) I kinda feel like an eagle. I feel free and not worried :)
Like a bird in the sky
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze! :)
Eagle should get more praise 👏 what a song
One of the most dreamlike incarnations of abba...The bald eagle is a lonely bird...!
They came flying from far away,
Now I'm under their spell
I love hearing the stories that they tell
They've seen places beyond my land
And they've found new horizons
They speak strangely but I understand.
And I dream I'm an eagle
And I dream I can spread my wings
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze.
High, high, what a feeling to fly
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please.
As all good friends we talk all night,
And we fly wing to wing
I have questions and they know everything
There's no limit to what I feel,
We climb higher and higher
Am I dreaming or is it all real?
Is it true I'm an eagle?
Is it true I can spread my wings?
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
(I'm an eagle)
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze.
High, high, what a feeling to fly
(What a feeling)
Over mountains and forests and seas
And to go anywhere that I please
And I dream I'm an eagle
And I dream I can spread my wings
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
(I'm an eagle)
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
High, high, what a feeling to fly
(What a feeling)
Over mountains and forests and seas
Flying high, high, I'm a bird in the sky
(I'm an eagle)
I'm an eagle that rides on the breeze
ABBA, the best there ever was and ever will be. This song, Eagle, and their I Have A Dream song, prove they were and are a gift from God, a reward to us for putting up with idiotic religions and brain dead politicians. ABBA's every song made people Happy!!!

12 seconds in and that classic keyboard_ fabulous. Abbas best non single album track
Fist heard age 6. Even then you couldn't convince me that this was not an abduction song. Maybe I hear with different ears. Still one of the most beautiful songs I know.
19 dislikes too many. This is audial perfection. Sublime
