That iron circle of Jade Warriors fighting off the Chaos horde early on was beautiful -- peak Grand Cathay fantasy.

Nor should they! As someone who has been fighting Chaos on the table top for years in 40K and AoS, I love to see Chosen do well. The very best Chaos Mortals right behind Sorcerer Lords and Chaos Lords. Love to see it.

It is a lot of fun to see elite infantry like that be viable these days.
I know it said those chosen only got 1400 value, but the staying power was truly insane. Literally everything that was sent against them from minute 1 lost. Such a chad unit
Best of the best
They Exemplify their patron to a great degree they are very tough no matter how much you hit them they will not break. They will keep fighting no matter how many enemies are sent against them, they are an incredible unit they can give bloodletters a run for their money
They were even the great wepon variant. Sword and board chosen of Nurgle are even tankier. Not as silly, but if you want a sleeper unit to hold, they are a solid choice.
@@toejams9310 Excepting ranged fire, I feel like the great weapons often up being 'tankier' than the shielded variant, just because they kill their enemies so much faster that they get attacked way less
@@dasaniarmani3594 yeah value doesn't always capture the whole picture. If a unit holds a point for the whole game, you're getting a lot more than the value number would suggest in its total impact

So there was Chosen in that game, I genuinely thought they were Pestigors xD
It felt like he built expecting a more demon-centric army (plaguebearers and toads I guess) with all the magic and non-AP damage. Crazy damage on those casters though, especially considering at least most of his WoM went to the alchemist.
I can't believe that alchemist was able to stay away from threats despite being on foot. Dude was a hidden menace the whole game.
Cathay had like what, 3 mastery of the wind buffs? Direct damage spells get crazy when you start stacking those up.
Always loved your commentary for the quick snarky repeated jokes/names. “It’s basically Wookie incarnated” flew by so fast and made me smile.
Those Chosen were hilarious, getting stuck in and going 4v1 for so long without dying. They easily paid for themselves by the amount of units they held up let alone killed.

In terms of "names for things i really wouldnt want to experience", 'Unspeakable foulness' has to rank close to number 1

The Final transmutations was devastating i always underestimate its damage.
Was beefed up by having not only 2 casters but the Jade Lion aswell they all provide spell mastery so that Final Transmutation was maybe 140-150% spell mastery so quite a big boost to its already good damage. Playing with Cathay or Tzeentch and using 200% spell mastery buffs is just insane. Bjuna's, Final Transmutations and even Spirit Leeches can just erase units.
@cinder8926 I totally forgot the jade lion does that! I should try them out, I usually use the jet lion if any.
@sauron98 I believe it was a change that came with the Yuan Bo dlc. Part of a few updates and balance changes Cathay got. Jade Lion became a better magic booster since I believe it also provides a 20% arcane conduit and the Jet Lion has like 50% magic resist and perhaps a silence effect though I rarely use the Lions so I don't 100% recall.
They are pretty bad tbh. Terrible anims for SEM v SEM and extremely slow killing against even low tier infantry. They exist purely as support which outside of the Jade Lion boosting spell damage everything else they do isn't very good.
The toad dragon breath can actually hit air targets and do a good chunk of damage….i sadly learned this fighting Malaki with no air force
It felt like too much got invested into the SEM fights on the Cathay side for results that took too long to realize - the Toad Dragon was a real distraction carnifex, and definitely earned his points regardless of what the damage says. In addition, leaning heavily on Jade Warriors when Pestigors + Marauder Great Weapons represent so much abundaunt cheap AP feels a little dicey. Until we get that hypothetical teased Monkey King DLC, I dunno if Cathay really has the close quarters prowess to make this build work against Nurgle. Every Chaos faction getting a vanguard Gor variant + Chaos Furies is so much dive potential and sideplay pressure though. The DLCs feel like they're solidly rounding out each Chaos faction to be pretty well rounded and muscular in every except the artillery/shooting department. Could you imagine launch Nurgle being called more mobile and better at side play than Cathay?
Yeah engaging any chaos faction in a melee fight is really asking for a beat down that's Chao's specialty. Powerful spells can even out a fight but you are limited in MP and a player isn't as dumb as campaign AI. if Cathay had Greatswords of any kind then I could see it working a little nicer but all their infantry is purely for holding so guns, arty and SEMs can do all the work. Cathay did get some really nice SEs with the Yuan Bo dlc that can do some nasty damage. I have a mod that adds Celestial Dragon Greatswords as a Tier 4 unit their stats are around that of the regular Halberd variant and they really do make a massive difference when it comes to going out into the fight against Chaos factions or just any other heavy metal faction like Chorfs.
to be honest, monsters are more mobile. Cathay doesn't have any hard hitting mobility except Longmas and dragon lords, they are a very static, formation-based army. I feel like if there was one iron hail unit here the SE fight would be much better for Cathay and crowmen+longmas can protect them from the furies
Moon Bird is not to be underestimated. 120 speed, 500 WS, and 46 charge bonus means it can goon some stuff.

ever since nurgle got the GW chosen, ive never not had at least one in my build somewhere. They are such a core sweeper for nurgle imo.
that is actually a awesome video, I love when people use more different and exotic units and those jade lions where amazing to see.
its just sad me that the drum unit has NO animations at all. such disappointing ting to see and I know they will not bother to change it.

Those Chosen are insane! They sat and fought for 11 minutes straight while 15 feet away from a war drum. PLUS, becauae of the wardrum, literally everything they fought was in harmony.

@turin can you post more battles in Conquest mode? You posted one the other day with just a single capture point instead of 3. I find the single capture point battle to be a lot more gratifying from the audience perspective.
Something about summoning units from the sideboard ruins the whole audience experience for me
