As much as I hate the dawgs as a young man who grew up in Florida idolizing Tim Tebow, I have so much respect for Kirby Smart. Former college players that keep that same passion and drive to win as a coach does SO much for a program. I hope Florida finds that guy one day.

The best Georgia teams take on the personality of the coach. Yet are still player led. That 42-7 game, the Seniors were FURIOUS that the backups let in a garbage time Fla TD right at the end. I grew up in the era Kirby played in. We hate Florida. We love Kirby. HBTFD
How could a video about this rivalry not even mention the end zone dance and the revenge game the following season? The speedy coverage of the Tebow and Meyer years seems very sketch. Overall a heavy UGA slant on display here, but a decent video overall.
I’m actually a Gator fan lol, the 2000’s were glossed over because I wanted the video to be focused specifically on the playing and coaching careers of Spurrier and Smart rather than a comprehensive history of the rivalry, otherwise I 100% would’ve focused a lot more on the Meyer years and all the heartbreaking losses Richt took to the Gators (along with the Dooley years).
i was born in dayton, oh and as you can imagine- grew up a massive buckeye fan which of course still am to this day. when i joined the navy i was stationed in Mayport, FL which is less than an hour from where the Gators play. i lived on jacksonville beach, right off atlantic. the whole city just seemed like a giant blue and orange nightmare. you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing fucking tebow jerseys and gator flags everywhere. that gawd awful “it’s great to be a florida gator” chant and that stupid gator chomp they do with their hands. aw the cringe. well anyway, our basketball team that year made it to the final four led by Greg Oden and Mike Conley! so my brothers, my uncle and my pops headed on down to (?) can’t remember, kentucky? doesn’t matter. anyways, we cruised to the national title where we met Florida. i don’t want to talk about the result but i then had to drive back down to gator hell, extremely disappointed. but don’t worry, come football season- we’ll get revenge! onto the national championship! and were we there? he’ll ya we were! same crew. we were sure wed crush this asshole named Urban Meyer (oh how we hated that guy) and his soft gators led by chris Leak, percy Harvin and some young punk named Tebow or something. first kick off- Ted Ginn takes it to the house! we were sitting in the far end zone, so ginn caught it and ran straight to us, right to the end zone just before us. we were going completely nuts! it’s not often you get revenge in the national title the same year just in a different sport! turns out, the Ginn kickoff to the house was all we’d get to cheer about. The Gators kicked the shit out of us, again. and of course, back to Gator hell for me the next morning. i’ll never forget all those he locals, all the friends i made, shit even my girlfriend was a massive Gator fan, and they never let me hear the end of it. i will forever to the day that i die- hate the Florida Gators. Michigan means nothing to me compared to how much i hate the Gators. that classless coach they had. well, a few years later, when he grew up and matured and became a good person, then we decided to give him a job. it’s amazing how the change of a uniform can make you feel differently about someone, eh? Urban Meyer is my dude for life! GO BUCKS!! i hate the florida gators!!!
And meanwhile my 95 Huskers whoooed up on that same 95 Gators team in the NC and little ol’ Nebraska, population 1.5 million, compared to the 11 mil in GA, has 2 more Nc’s than UGA. Go (real) Big Red!!!
