5:36 Yeah they have a lot of colours, those Onu-Matoran. My headcanon is that engineers and high ranking miners get orange masks and members of the Ussalry/Onu-Matoran defense force get purple masks, sort of like different suits for different jobs (or a literal manifestation of collar colours for workers). Sadly, the Onu-Matoran seem to be the only ones where you could apply such logic. :/

Looking a Hahli's Kaukua, it reminded me of a paint technique I saw a while back for translucent plastics, where instead of painting the outside, the inside gets painted. I kinda wonder if it'd look as good as I'm thinking on the trans blue? 🤔

Amazing the variety you can give a world with enough colour combinations. That’s why it drives me nuts that apparently Mavrah looked exactly like Onepu despite his significance…
I always found the silver-shading on powerless masks such an odd lore bit from the Metru Nui arc. We don't see it anywhere else in the MU (which fair enough, it seemed to be a Ta-Metru style/stamp) and even on Metru Nui it's inconsistent. It's on the toys and the CD game, but absent on the Vahki Online Animations and the second movie. It's a feature I personally cut for making custom Matoran, so I'm gonna give you massive props for actually going the whole 9 yards on these fellows.
I've always wanted to do something like this myself, recreating all the MNOG II cast, especially for the McToran forms, but can never bring myself to spray-paint, cut, or modify parts. I've really wanted to get a 3D printer for a while now to cheese some of the rarer colors like teal or purple but have never gotten around to it.
5:10 I noticed Shasa and Marka (being the brainwashed) in that scene but never considered for a moment that'd be Nixie. Naughty girl!
If some of the paint is too glossy for your liking I think you can get a matt spray varnish that protects the paint as well as making it matt. Some matt varnishes end up glossy so get the right one!
Wicked, I'll definitely look into that. I've also found that it goes matt if I leave it in the rain soon after painting.
You could try matte varnish over the glossy paint to make it less glossy. But matt over metal may destroy the metal effect, so I would recommend a brush-on so you have more controll. I know Army Painter has matt varnish in dropper bottles for brush-on application, would think other miniature paint brands has something like that as well

Heya, I don't have any experience with a 3D-printing company like Shapeways, but there's a lot of other videos by people who have. Alternatively 3D printing yourself is getting cheaper all the time :)

What Color’s do you use for the spray paint? I want to spray paint a ruru mask black
Hiya, I've put the colors in some of my bigger DIYonicle videos, but luckily black iso ne of the easier ones. Just decide whether you want to go matte or gloss - both can look better of different parts.

You got hafu and taipu mixed up, haru is the one with the ruru and taipu is the one with the pakari
Since this is earlier in the timeline I went with the masks we first see them with in MNOG, and I showed both versions anyway to keep everyone happy (or try to...)

What should I use for dark green spray paint to get a look closest to Metru green?
I got lucky with Wilko's dark green spray paint in the UK, I'm not sure about the rest of the world, sorry. Good luck!

Could you make a Matoran version of Podu from the BIONICLE: Quest for the Toa game. According to Biosector01 he’s described as being a Po-Matoran Kohli player who wears a black Huna. Maybe you could even make a Metru nui version too?
Heya, Podu has a kinda unique torso so I probably wouldn't paint parts just for him. I think I made at least a digital McToran version for the Bionicle Database of Studio Models though :)
