23 years and crazy to think that for about 21 or so it's been defunct.... Long live that noisy little drive. My launch Dreamcast is still kicking and thinking. I can't FIGURE IT OUT.
I am 20 years old and the Dreamcast was my childhood console, when I was a kid I was always interested in vintage consoles, so all I wanted was a Dreamcast with SA1 and SA2 on it, and when I got one, I played it to death! I got plenty of other games too, like chu chu rocket and jet set radio. No one at school knew what the hell a Dreamcast was, and I felt cool because of it. Back then stuff for the console was cheap, so I got a new clear blue VMU and a new controller for like 30 bucks. I have countless memories on this console and it blows my mind that new games still come out on it!
That’s really cool that you are younger but went the retro route really gives u a good gaming background , so much better than a lot of the slop they force feed us today
Man that's so great I'm happy for you I got my DC a year after premier it was the last console that my parents paid for 😁 I was 17 few years after that in 2002 I bought Xbox for my own money , but DC has this magic of being that last console of my youth really , I will be 40 next year and I'm planning of adding brand new DREAMCAST to my collection but man the PRICES online are crazy , hope you still gaming dude I had a break at the very beginning of ps4 and Xbox one console and then in 2016 I got myself a 360 and all the exclusives , I never had one as I was a PS 3 user but man that convert me back in to gaming all the mass effect games , gears , Alan wake with by the way is absolutely fantastic and necessary to play if you played CONTROL , in 2017 I got myself Xbox one elite and then Xbox one x later ps4 but just for exclusives , Now I'm gaming on Series X and still on my PS 4 and one x . Also I was so happy to have something special in school as everyone else either preorderd ps2 or they still had PSX(PlayStation) any way great story dude .
One of the best memories I have of the Dreamcast was getting it really close to launch, and getting made fun of by my friends and kids at school for not getting a PS2...which ended up not coming out for years later. All the kids would show up wanting to play, and I'd just make them watch and say, "have fun waiting for your PS2". I got a PS2 anyway. But me and a bud both got Dreamcast near release and bought just about every game between the two of us (both of us had the same summer job). Sitting there playing House of the Dead 2 and Soul Caliber while they drooled and went home to their aging N64 and PS1.
For the Dreamcast 23rd birthday I finally bought another one from eBay and will be modding the crap out of it! I can't wait to hook it all up. I'm so excited! I even found an elusive yellow controller! I ordered a neon green console shell and a Jet Set Radio logo sticker for the lid since it's my most favorite game of all time!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREAMCAST! Here's to many more years of gaming greatness. 🍻🎊🎉
I was waiting for this video all morning lol! Happy birthday Dreamcast! My favorite console! Playing ports of the games that came out on this console just doesn’t feel right but playing it on an actual Dreamcast just has a different feeling for some reason
Thanks for the Dreamcast birthday video, Adam! I wondered what still can be talked about the Dreamcast on its 23rd birthday, but you prove me wrong with 11 new game releases. Flea, Shadow Gangs and Izzy seem to be my personal favorites from what I saw. It's still thinking
The Dreamcast was truly a revolutionary console. As a Sonic fan, the Adventure games are the ones I return to the most often. But I also love Shenmue 1 and 2, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and Soul Caliber.
I got my exorcised version of the textorcist recently. I thought it was so neat that they poked fun at themselves a bit and actually made a nice little sleeve for it and a nice new disc. They totally could've just sent out an updated copy in a white paper sleeve.
I actually have the second Postal game on Steam, which is also an infamous game in its own right because of its level of violence. That’s something the series overall is known for, and to see the first game get a physical release on console, especially the Dreamcast, is pretty cool, and the Dreamcast version being an improved version makes it the definitive way to play that game.
When I bought my dreamcast in the final year of its demise i got most of the games cheap and i brought the console, my crt tv and four controllers to a camping site with quake and unreal. There was a hall wherw there was electricity so i and a few of my friends (we were teachers taking our students for a three day leadership course) played multiplayer quake and unreal for 2 nights (it was a 3 days 2 nights camping) before we went to sleep. Fun memories.
Love this anniversary video! The Sega Dreamcast is the best console ever made!! Thank you Adam for flying the DC flag for decades. I was in shock not knowing about Ghoul Grind and will need to check it out. Sega may have pulled the plug 21 years ago but the passionate fans have kept it alive for all these years! Cheers my DC brethren!!
Wow, what a year! I was working the day of, so just catching up on RUclips. This year I invested in some DC upgrades. Battery upgrade, DC Digital, and a translucent blue shell, but only used the top so my DC is two toned. Thanks for the update, some games I was unaware of too. Cheers dude!
Nice stuff happy b-day DREAMCAST….. arguably my favorite console of all time….. ps2 and turbo graphix were also massive beasts in their own right…… take care Adam
The textorcist is great and I’m glad they sent out a nice new disc, they went all out on the packaging before so it’s nice they kept that for the replacement too. Probably my favorite game on the console in a while!
I just wish Sega would celebrate the Dreamcast more....And all of their non Genesis consoles for that matter. I know a Dreamcast Mini isn't likely, but I swear, if you're a kid and not well versed in video games, you'd probably believe Sega made literally no other system than the Genesis. They only ever celebrate that one.
They push the genesis so hard, you would think that's all Sega ever did. However🙂 Sega had awesome consoles besides the genesis. The Sega master system Sega game gear Sega CD Sega 32X Sega Saturn Sega Dreamcast It would be neat to see a master system mini, a game gear mini, or a Sega Saturn mini 🙂
I'm 33 and bought my first Dreamcast 4 years ago. The black Sega Sports edition! I really only wanted it to play my favorite arcade games Hydro Thunder, Rush 2049 and also Crazy Taxi. I ended up putting a GDEMU clone in it and installed a few games but I didn't really play it until this summer. I just beat Shenmue for the fist time!!! There's so many more great games that I need to play on it. I am in love, every game simply looks stunningly modern in 480p on a PC CRT.
Playing Shenmue for the first time with my model 0 Dreamcast from hollywood video, Mcable, and Akura! I wouldn't have had the pleasure if not for you Adam~ Keep Dreaming!
I remember watching ur vids when I was like 10-11 back in 2012 and i was getting into vintage 80/90s gaming and I wanted the Dreamcast so bad. Funny enough in that summer 2012 I remember going to my grandmas house and just finding an old dreamcast in her basement that was my uncles from ‘99. Never had to pay a dime for it lol what an amazing system tho wish it wouldve lasted longer
Almost 24 when considering the Japanese/Asian launch. Regardless, still impressive to see new games come out for it while the Vita and Wii U have already been sunset.
wow, one year gone again. seems like yesterday i watched the last birthday video. i got my dreamcast christmas 2000, together with virtua tennis, jet set radio and shenmue. unbelievable it's been almost 22 years...and also sad when i think of the people and pets who were there then and are now no longer with us. and another sad/wierd thought...more time has passed now since my grandparents have gone, than i actually new them in life. man... i'm going to go have a cry now.
This brings back so many beautiful memories! I remember playing marvel versus Capcom 2 on my big screen in the basement. House full of people two controllers and a lot of fun
Been playing a game since April and 100%ed it. Was waiting for a patch to fix a glitch to get the last achievement. Sat down, 'hep! What should I do now?' This video! Hit the spot something fresh video game wise. Thanks so much!
I'm so glad the Dreamcast still gets support all these decades later. I got a Gecko VGA box to make all the games look amazing and a StrikerDC controller to make playing its library so much more fun. It's amazing that retro systems still get this support.
23 years running and yet this console manages to get a 32 minute long video about it... which is 23 spelled backwards hehe. Happy birthday little machine that essentially could! Still need to reassemble mine(same scenario with my Saturn) I had started to clean mine but then the pandemiq hit, got laid off months later, boxed up both consoles as is and then took an opportunity to move from Oregon all the way to Ohio this past June. A while back I made a 3D homebrew game for the PS1 just for fun, but the problem is that you can't sell games made using the official SDK. Now I'm thinking of tackling the Dreamcast next. It's nice to know you can sell the games you make for the Dreamcast. I'll keep in mind the points you made about pressing a game if I ever make a full release worthy of doing that to. Do you know of any good videos/links for getting started with the pressing process? It's just a curiosity at this point but I like to think ahead.
For some reason the date 9/9 was burned into my brain and I felt like today had some significance, and now I know why! I still remember buying one the day it came out along with Soul Calibur and Tokyo Xtreme Racer and I was surprised that nobody else seemed to be buying them that day. It's the only console I've held onto all these years and still my all-time favourite.
The first after market Dreamcast game that I bought was "Feet of Fury." All of my other after market Dreamcast games were from RedSpot Games. Very late Dreamcasts don't have MilCD support. Fortunately I still have my launch console.
yea I remember 9/9/99 at the same time it was being promoted with the mtv music video awards with chris rock and janet Jackson's nutty professor 2 music video had dreamcast games playing in the background jet grind radio & space channel 5...damn good times
I beat Shenmue 3 a couple days ago, man was it a blast! Just a perfect (vying all the VAs they couldn't bring back) transition from Shenmue 2- I wasn't disappointed at all. Anyway that was the most Dreamcast thing I'd done recently :D.
I still haven’t owned one even though I am devoted to the 6th gen. Most expensive one to ODE/play backups is part of it but I think I’ll start the process soon.
Happy 23rd Birthday to SEGA's White Dream Machine!!! I remember getting mine August, 2003 with THPS1 & THPS2 along with a baseball game called World Series 2K1 featuring Pedro Martinez, NFL 2K, Sonic Adventure 1+2 & Prince of Persia 3D: Arabian Nights [A.K.A. the original Assassin's Creed]. EDIT: I forgot about Rayman 2! I had that too!
Cracking stuff buddy :) Crazy that awesome console is that old now i still got my day 1 release console "Granted the fan on it now is loud as hell but it still works hahaha"
I sold my original unit a few years after I bought it to get a GameCube. Id like to think it's still out there whirring in someone's living room to this day
Now that we can't really find Video-CD, Audio CD, CDI, Kodak, Photo CD and CD-R disks anymore I see the market for Dreamcast, CDI, 3DO, Jag CD, Neogoe CD, SEGA CD, Sega Saturn and Tubro CD homebrews going down. In fact my Blu-ray burner says that Dreamcast homebrews is why it supports CD-R disks and saving you music disks is why it supports Audio CDs.
I just put my Sega Dreamcast in a new Blue Shell still saving the old one even though it is turning yellow but it deserves to look good and young again.
Hrumph, the Bit Station appears to be down. Grumble. Great video though! Going to have to look into Texorcist...wondering if I buy one from GameFairy, is it the corrected version or the buggy one? I still have a working DC keyboard... :)
wow all those releases though! at the moment I just have emulation and the PC ports but I may fire up crazy taxi at some point later, definitely one of my favorite DC games!
It just gets more and more insane to me the longer this goes on. Think about it Sega in the console market in North America was from the Master System in 1986 and ended with the Dreamcast in 2001. That's 15 years! The Dreamcast has been alive 8 years longer than the North American Sega division that created and sold it! Then if you go by Japan with the SG-1000 in 1983 that's only 18 years and it beats out the entire Sega Console department by 5 years and running. That is just insane.
I am a Zookeeper in Atlanta and I regularly feed the Hippos day old Sausages so they have a taste of their home. I put strings on the sausages and swing them around the Hippos they get so Mad at me and Scream but it's an obsession sometimes the hippos try and Break out of their Cages but I keep swinging those hotdogs in Wide Circles over their heads. Luckily my Boss doesn't know I do this or my Coworkers
This is a random question not related to this video, but seems like the space you or someone else may be able to answer. So I have a Dreamcast game that will not play. It reads that it’s there and knows what game it is but won’t go past the sega screen and eventually can’t read it after awhile. My Dreamcast has no problems playing other games and I’ve tried it on two consoles and it does the same thing. The disc looks pristine so I can’t figure out why it won’t play. Maybe I just need to scrap it, but maybe there’s a trick. Thanks.
@@dksretrocloset Hm, okay then I don't know. Shenmue disc one and Sonic Adventure are known for that, but never heard of that with Typing of the Dead. Do you have a second Dreamcast you can try?
When I click music from the Dreamcast home it show the game and does the normal audio for any game you put it, but when I back out to play it just goes back to the home menu after the sega screen that shows before most games.
Ironically, adjusted for inflation, it's cheaper now to get a DC than it was on initial release. Bought one, tested it out, added a DCEMU and loaded up an SD card. Awesome console even now. They might have held out for a while, but already threw in with Nintendo and Microsoft.

Crazy how's there's a whole generation of youngsters out there who haven't experienced a Sega gaming console during its heyday.
Atari too
Me, i was born the moment sega died. But whats crazy is that i own a dreamcast.
For the Dreamcast 23rd birthday I finally bought another one from eBay and will be modding the crap out of it! I can't wait to hook it all up. I'm so excited! "figure it out" i love adams intro sooooooo much ive been watching this channel for years all started with looking into dreamcast
Only 23 years old? Fantastic, I thought it was going to be even more years and it was going to make me feel even older...
I love that I stumbled upon your channel again man, it’s very ironic that the day I come back your uploading about the Dreamcast.
Welcome back!
Don't ever doubt yourself Adam there's a point to all of this. Happy birthday Dreamcast!!! 🥳 Hope they make licensed PC enclosures that look like you!

I always love these yearly videos. Love the passion
Wow, what a year! I was working the day of, so just catching up on RUclips.

Both video game consoles have a birthday today! Ps1 and sega dreamcast
And I just got my Dreamcast keyboard last week! Time to celebrate with some Typing of the Shenmue.
Playing Shenmue for the first time with my model 0 Dreamcast from hollywood video, Mcable, and Akura! I wouldn't have had the pleasure if not for you Adam~ Keep Dreaming!
Great video as usual!! You made the bit station website crash since everybody is going there at the same time XD

when my brother bought a dreamcast, i ran away from the army just to see the console. i'll never forget that.
Been playing a game since April and 100%ed it. Was waiting for a patch to fix a glitch to get the last achievement. Sat down, 'hep! What should I do now?' This video! Hit the spot something fresh video game wise. Thanks so much!
Great video Adam and happy birthday Dreamcast 🥳
I didn't know about Textorcist!! I bought the limited edition when it came out, I will email support and see what they say. Thanks for the heads up.
you’re the man, Adam. cheers!
I'm so glad the Dreamcast still gets support all these decades later. I got a Gecko VGA box to make all the games look amazing and a StrikerDC controller to make playing its library so much more fun. It's amazing that retro systems still get this support.
does the cable make games look good on modern 4k tv ?
@@mishal2k2 Can't tell you since I don't have a 4k tv.
Video of some kind! Early one today, nice!
I recently got my dreamcast on saturday at the retro game expo. Been enjoying it so far.
Just finished Jet Set Radio for the first time recently. What timing!
Now I cannot remember how to put those back together... I bought them mint-in-box, Japanese model 0 for both, back when I had money to spend.
I would talk about my MiSTer FPGA misery but this has gotten depressing enough so I will spare you that drama.
On the plus side at least my Jungle Green N64 is functional and Stone Age Gamer is now a... stone's throw or two away from me for my flash cart fix.
9/9/1999, first saw a Dreamcast at Fred Meyer in Gateway, Portland, O R that day while my family was house-sitting for my cousins while they were away at Yellowstone.
Excellent video Adam.
Happy Favorite Day to you Adam!
love the dreamcast! Thanks for this video!!
Not personally, I do know they always pressed in Germany. I'd seek out one of the existing Dreamcast publishers like JoshProd about that.
My favorite console of all time
The Joshprod releases are available at retail here in the Netherlands at Nedgame, a chain of game stores.
Happy birthday Dreamcast! Although I’ve only spent two months with it I feel like I’ve known it my whole life! Lol
Today is my 9/9/80 got to see all the new cartoons when they came out
The first after market Dreamcast game that I bought was "Feet of Fury." All of my other after market Dreamcast games were from RedSpot Games. Very late Dreamcasts don't have MilCD support. Fortunately I still have my launch console.
And I am waiting for arrival of the broadband adapter for mine so I can for the first time ever go online with it
26:27 Ghoul Grind: Night of the Necromancer is like a DeLorean

Every console I ever got as a kid family always forgot to get a memory card. Still remember going to Kay Bee Toys to get my VMU.
Keep Dreaming Adam, and keep our Dreams coming true. An dont drink the koolaid 😉🌏🎶🔊🍰Happy Birthday
I beat Shenmue 3 a couple days ago, man was it a blast! Just a perfect (vying all the VAs they couldn't bring back) transition from Shenmue 2- I wasn't disappointed at all. Anyway that was the most Dreamcast thing I'd done recently :D.

Happy Birthday to the Sega Dreamcast!
crazy it's 23 years old
Whoa i remember you had 20-70k subs
You’ve grown
Happy 23rd Birthday to SEGA's White Dream Machine!!! I remember getting mine August, 2003 with THPS1 & THPS2 along with a baseball game called World Series 2K1 featuring Pedro Martinez, NFL 2K, Sonic Adventure 1+2 & Prince of Persia 3D: Arabian Nights [A.K.A. the original Assassin's Creed]. Cracking stuff buddy :) Crazy that awesome console is that old now i still got my day 1 release console "Granted the fan on it now is loud as hell but it still works hahaha"
The only console birthday I will always remember is the Dreamcast's because of that memorable day of 9/9/99.
Im glad you enjoyed the games :)
I sold my original unit a few years after I bought it to get a GameCube. Id like to think it's still out there whirring in someone's living room to this day
Dreamcast had a lot of great games had cool internet possibilities if ps2 didn’t come along I think the dream cast would of been in its place
There will never be another console with a name as beautiful as Dreamcast.
In fact my Blu-ray burner says that Dreamcast homebrews is why it supports CD-R disks and saving you music disks is why it supports Audio CDs.
still a fun console! i just got the sports (black) edition! love it.
Happy birthday Dreamcast
Cool video talk tech Sega Dreamcast adam
Have you played Dreamcast games in 4k resolution? Looks great
I feel so old . Still remember 9/9/99 like yesterday
Happy anniversary Dreamcast
I just put my Sega Dreamcast in a new Blue Shell still saving the old one even though it is turning yellow but it deserves to look good and young again.
Woah 23 years has passed already and the Dreamcast is still recieving games from developers who refuse to see the dream die it's still thinking.
Hrumph, the Bit Station appears to be down. Grumble. Great video though! Going to have to look into Texorcist...wondering if I buy one from GameFairy, is it the corrected version or the buggy one? I still have a working DC keyboard... :)
I still remember waiting for my preorder of RESIDENT EVIL code veronica such a great RE games
wow all those releases though! at the moment I just have emulation and the PC ports but I may fire up crazy taxi at some point later, definitely one of my favorite DC games!
What’s that poster that’s on the door with the beer?
Show I worked on called Beer and Board Games.
@@AdamKoralik nice
It just gets more and more insane to me the longer this goes on. Think about it Sega in the console market in North America was from the Master System in 1986 and ended with the Dreamcast in 2001. That's 15 years! The Dreamcast has been alive 8 years longer than the North American Sega division that created and sold it! Then if you go by Japan with the SG-1000 in 1983 that's only 18 years and it beats out the entire Sega Console department by 5 years and running. That is just insane.

*Oh well, git gud sun*
Now if I could only find a working HDMI cable for it...Hyperkin's won't work on the TV I have soooooo maybe the Kaico?...
Kaico stuff is junk.
5:50 ... so WiiU without a single physical release this year again🧐completely agree😊
Does anyone make replacement laser disc drives for the Dreamcast?
Not that I'm aware of, but there's a lot of ODE options now.
Thanks.
What game is it?
Typing of the dead.
@@dksretrocloset That doesn't really matter to be honest. Your best bet is to test it on another console. The disc or the console may be at fault.
Ironically, adjusted for inflation, it's cheaper now to get a DC than it was on initial release. Bought one, tested it out, added a DCEMU and loaded up an SD card. Awesome console even now. They might have held out for a while, but already threw in with Nintendo and Microsoft.
Question adam:postal 2 on ps2,pc wasn't graphically amazing so do you think dreamcast could do a good port of postal 2?
I don't pretend to know.
Still have my original up and running. No issues. Routine cleaning.
I also retrobrightened it. Looks like 1999 lol
Hey Adam I have a question why is CDR games a issue compared to a pressed disk for Dreamcast games?
Is the CDR bad for the Dreamcast laser?
Do you mean CD-R versions of the original games or CD-R versions of the independent games?
@@AdamKoralik CDR like independent games like Ghoul Grind that you talked about in this video.
@@josephchaparro1037 Oh that's different. That's just because it seems unprofessional. If I could make it on my own computer, it's not special.
@@AdamKoralik Oh ok so it's a quality of product thing.
So playing a CD-R won't hurt the system itself over time?
@@josephchaparro1037 Well, for independent games no. Games that were originally GD-ROMs, yes.
What date was the dreamcast released in Europe
October 14th.
