    just noticed you 'struggled' to thread the carriage when changing yarn with the claw - to help with that, you can use the latch tool or the transfer tool, this helps catch the yarn the guide it into the slot where our fingers can not quite reach. actually anything long & thin will work. even a spare knitting needle or crochet hook or a skewer

    Thank you so much Heather, I only have the claw, but will have a go next time I'm at my machine. I would prefer not to have to do double rows if at all possible? So I will look forward to seeing your next video 😊😊 Joy

      I have written a fairly lengthy two part blog post about it on my site, but the video will hopefully be more concise - if you have Superbaknit you can use the fairisle rib setting instead of the skip stitch setting. The carriage setup is the same, but you start on the right hand side for row one instead of the left. It is very cool!

    I have a system 9000 (I use the 2310 as that has superbaknit hardware but I use the 9000 carriages) but that needle cover thing was a PITA with the 9000 machine too. think that was why I hated the colour changer. I tend to just use the claw. but I bet that cover could be 3d printed if we could get good measurements etc. (or made slightly different to it actually stays on in use LOL)
    just a 'tip' about the carriages in case new users are wondering, some of the newer ones have square handles too, it's the 'frog eyes' that make the difference. the frog eyes allow you to change the yarn guides. if you really want to use the colour changer but have the older style carriages you can buy spare carriages as they generally work on any superba machine (except the 'suitcase' ones)

      Right you are about the carriages.
      I discovered right after I posted this video that my older front carriage works perfectly with the flow comb cover. The 'new' front carriage I have is shaped differently. I posted a video of the difference on Instagram for anyone curious. Next time I try it out I'm betting the left edge will be a lot nicer.

    Thanks! This video is very useful. I just have got a colour changer a few weeks ago and I haven't tried it again.

      Let me know if you have more luck with the flow comb cover than I've had! ( none 🤣)

      Hi Heather,
      Re the flow comb cover, I think you are not pushing it down far enough. The bottom of it should sit snugly against the top rail and the very tips of the flow combs should be just popping up above the top of the flow comb cover. Also couldn’t see in your vid, but the little tabs on the back of the flow comb cover fit between adjacent flow combs, not straddling either side of a comb. Looking at the flow comb cover from above, the tab in the middle of the cover should be sitting between the first flow comb to the left of the last needle in work on the left and the next left flow comb after that. Hope this helps.

      Me again. At 15:58 you can see a clear gap between the bottom of the flow comb cover and the top rail. Also just re watching, I didn’t see you bring an extra needle into work on the back bed on the left, it is in the manual and I find it produces a neater edge on the left.

      @@nononoathousandtimesno8191 I actually have just now figured out the problem - it is my style of carriage. On my Instagram (same name) I have posted a short video. The older style carriage works fine with the flow comb cover but the new one hits it and knocks it out of place 🤦‍♀️ that would explain why it's always flying off!

    When changing the yarn manually you don't have to completely thread it in the guide. Taken from the manual: "Unhook the main yarn, pull it towards the front and hold it in front of the opening of the carriage, above the yarn guide (the yarn passes in front of the right hand brush). When moving the carriages towards the right hand side, stretch the yarn backwards and towards the left hand side. It will thread itself automatically" It makes thread changing easier (only when done on the left hand side of the machine)

    Thank you Heather for the demo. The fabric produced seems to be thick. Is it?

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  2 года назад

      Hi Naomi, sorry I didn't see your comment! It can be quite thick depending on the yarns used. These yarns are on the higher end of what would be appropriate for this technique, anything thicker and you might end up with a really thick/stiff fabric.

    my Superba S47 has the pressure pad, but sadly it doesn't even turn on. Can I still do double jacquard? I do have the "frog eyes" type of carriage, but I don't have a color changer. Can I do the color jacquard manually?

    Hey Heather, thank you for your nice video! I was just wondering if you have tried out the reversible jacquard on your machine? (I don’t mean the plated backside) I found the instructions in the manual for the singer system 624 and was wondering if it’s real reversible jacquard, because there is also mentioned the „fancy jacquard“ which you have shown in another video. Maybe it’s a feature which is only available on the 624 but who knows!

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  3 года назад

      Hmm...As far as I know the only "reversible" jacquard the Superbas can do is the kind I have shown in the previous video - there are several different jacquard variations that use the second yarn guide though, I can't remember what they are all called offhand. To my knowledge the only domestic machine that can produce a true reversible jacquard is one of the passaps, maybe the e8000 or e6000 but I have been wrong before!

    • @thorstenluhring460
      @thorstenluhring460 3 года назад

      @@heatherismakingstuff I checked again, you’re right. So we stay with the beautiful plated jacquard. To e6000: there is also no reversible jacquard possible. You can do a lot of variations of jacquard on the machine (with stripes, plain etc.) but reversible is not possible. Maybe the e8000 can do it, but I think this is the most rare machine ever.
      So thank you for your videos, I am excited to see more!
