    great video, nice to see how to set superbaknit.
    for the 2nd Yarn Guide (2YG) some people do have a problem with the first row and the machine not knitting/dropping the first few stitches, you did not seem to but. if you find this happens on any technique using the 2YG, you can either make a slip knot or e wrap the last needle in work on the carriage side (so right in most cases) this holds/positions the yarn in the correct place for that first row with 2 yarns.

      LOL believe me, it will crop up when you least expect it and you won't notice until you have knit quite a bit of the pattern ;) attaching the 2nd yarn to the needle anchors it a bit as if it were already in use and the machine, normally, just knits happily along. it's a useful tip to have in the arsenal for when you need it LOL

    hi Heather,
    i just bought the kit, it works but when i knitted with the jacquard 2 colors, it didn't work , so i knitted without yarns, just using the back carriqge for testing, i put the 0 and did what you showed in your video, i pushed the cursor on right side where i passed the carriage, but no needles show up at all, i tried mnay times and didn't work at all, do you know what is the problem ? thanks before hand

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  3 года назад

      Hi Emy, did you make sure to click "knit" in superbaknit? Also it doesn't select needles ahead of time like a Brother machine, so it can sometimes be hard to tell if it is selecting properly without yarn, but if you have the carriage set up properly (NRL up, Jacquard key and knit key depressed) you can tell that it will pull some needles to the higher position and some will be further back in regular position as it goes across, but they will all go back to the regular working position after the carriage passes. Does that make sense?

    Hey, would you have any tips for the full wrap cast on? I keep having problems with it, as my yarn unravels and pulls apart when I attempt to cast on. I have the flow combs alternate and everything else seems to be in order, but I'm totally clueless as to why this keeps happening!

      Hi Jess, sorry I didn't see your comment until now. Do you mean an e-wrap? or a double e-wrap perhaps? There is a way to do it, although it's not one I use regularly on this machine. The Answer Lady has a great video on it here: ruclips.net/video/vDKeVzo5Dz0/видео.html

    I am so tempted to buy a Singer Memo II but it's the patternng fuction that's putting me off - they are such a rare machine here in the UK whereas the punchcard or electronic Brother machines are much more widely known. I have tried to look at videos on these machines but they're in French and I can't understand them!

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  4 года назад

      I know what you mean! They all function in the same way, which is nice because all the skills are transferable between different models. The patterning should be reasonably simple to figure out with the manual, but having said that, the manuals aren't always the most robust.
      This one came with some audiotapes for learning the light scanning box, I'm not sure if there was something similar for the other patterning inputs but I'm sure there is someone in the Superba groups on ravelry and Facebook that could help if you get stuck.
      Having said that, the cost can be an issue as well. If you end up going with superbaknit because the input doesn't work, it's not the cheapest way to an electronic machine. I have an electronic Brother as well, and I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite. They both have strengths and weaknesses.

      Ich denke, wenn Sie die automatisch generierten Untertitel für das Video einschalten, sollte es eine Option geben, es auf Deutsch umzustellen, aber ich weiß nicht, wie genau es sein könnte. Falls Sie die Bedienungsanleitung auf Deutsch benötigen, gibt es eine Kopie im Superba Vault zum Download. Sie können dies finden, indem Sie nach „Superba Vault Box“ suchen oder den Ravelry- oder Facebook-Superba-Gruppen beitreten. Ich hoffe das hilft. hey Heather, I just got finished with a thorough cleaning, I haven't tried this machine before. I was super careful to close the needles before removing and open them to replace them. Now I am finding that half the needles on the right side of the main bed (back) won't stay up in some places, like in a lot of places. Does the mean that the spring is shot?? I am going to cry over here, I would not no how to change that spring.

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  4 года назад +1

      Is the needle retaining wire back in place? If so you might need to take a look at the spring, unfortunately. It may not even be broken, it could have popped out of place and not be doing its job properly, but if the needles fall back from working position that's definitely a sign there is something amiss with the spring. It's honestly not too hard, just fiddly. If you follow the instructions in the service manual and use masking tape to hold the needles down, it isn't so bad, as they will stay in place when you take it apart. Can definitely be done!

    do you have any suggestions as to how to do this with a brother machine? in my case the kh970 + kr850 ribber

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  3 года назад

      Unfortunately I don't believe it can be done on a Brother. You need to be able to knit two colours at a time with the ribber attached, and even with the ribber plating feeder attached, it doesn't put the yarns in the right place to do colorwork on the front bed.
      I am pretty sure certain Passap machines do a reversible jacquard, but other than that I do not believe any of the Japanese machines can do it.

    many yarn tensioners. It's depend on the thickness of the yarn?

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  4 года назад +1

      Do you mean all my tension masts? I have them all up because at one point I was doing 6-colour jacquard, and I never took the extra ones down.
      For this reversible technique, yes the yarn thickness is very important. A lace weight or 2/30 works very well. In the video the 2/14 is a little bit hard to push the carriage.

    good afternoon, are you oiling the knitting machine and what kind of oil? Regards, Kulyash

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  4 года назад +1

      Hi Kulyash, yes I do oil it but VERY sparingly. I only oil the back and front rails where the plastic bar on the carriages slides through, and occasionally I will put some oil on a cloth and wipe it behind the needle butts to get a tiny bit of oil into the needle channels. I use only a drop in the rails. Too much and you just have a greasy mess. I also sometimes oil the wheel that turns the belt attached to the cursor - mine was sooo squeaky! - and the rail the cursor slides in if it starts to feel sluggish.
      I use sewing machine oil because I have lots of it, but there are other oils recommended by other people. If you check out The Answer Lady here on RUclips, she has a whole bunch of videos with the various products she recommends. You definitely want to avoid anything that will cause a buildup on your machine. I hope that helps!

    Hi Heather! Newby question here: Is the part you are holding up at 1:41 a plaiting feeder? I am wondering as I would like to knit 1 color on one side, and another color on the back side. On a brother machine i'd use a plaiting feeder to do so, but not sure how to do that on a Superba machine? Thank you for your tutorial!

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  4 года назад

      Hi! Sorry for the late reply, I don't think I got a notification. That is the "second yarn guide", on a Superba there isn't really a plaiting feeder the same as there is on Japanese machines. This is used for any technique where you run two yarns at once. The Japanese sinker plates generally have two slots already built in, but on these there is only one slot on the carriage so you need to add this for fair isle etc..

    • @heatherismakingstuff
      @heatherismakingstuff  4 года назад

      Actually I should add that plaiting as such is something that I'm not sure you can do easily on the Superba machines. You would definitely need this second yarn guide, and technically reversible Jacquard is plaiting also... Maybe it could be done with a pattern that selects all needles on the back bed to be in one color, and using the same technique as in this video, you would get the effect of having the second color on the back... Something I'd have to look into a little more, I might be overthinking it.
