Today we take a tour of my favorite tiny house yet, The Nook. A beautiful traditionally crafted tiny house located in North Carolina. At only 400sqft this tiny house has everything from 2 loft spaces, a dining nook, full bathroom, and even an indoor swing! The story and craftsmanship is seriously top notch. Check out The Nook! The Japanese technique is called shou sugi ban. Its to preserve the wood by charring it with fire.

Great article on shou sugi ban at architecturaldigest: "Use This Incredible Technique to Waterproof Wood Furniture" I believe it inhibits insects from damaging the wood, too. The article says it works best on cedar because of its chemical properties and porousness. It is sealed with boiled linseed oil or other product.
Yes that's it. I saw this technique used once by Chip and Joanna Gaines.
I just read about this technique in the Oct/Nov 20202 issue of Log and Timber Home Living. It's so lovely.

I say 400 sq ft and under is a "tiny house". This one looks livable, but if you were to ignore the lofts, it is like a studio apartment without closets. Once you add all the items that make up real life, this place would be cluttered. I do Lovvve the architecture, though! Especially the round window and various wood tones.
This cabin is heavenly and delightful. I want to “chill out” there.
I like the under counter refrigerator and freezer.

I’d be over the moon if I walked in and found this was my vacation surprise getaway! Wow! Thanks for showing us! I liked the different nooks/areas in the house. Oh, and the swing. Oh yeah, the round window with the dining area built in!
That ladder with flat top round pegs. Love it and it's look. I could live in this except my dog can't climb ladders. I include her in everything so we would need hidden stairs somewhere. If I was a normal woman with normal lap dog I could just carry her up. Lol,she is way heavier than I am. I'm adding a larger bed to my camper this summer just for her. Thanks for showing this lil nook. It's a beauty,I loved all the stories the builder shared with you also. Thanks again,Levi.
I’m obsessed! It feels so large and everything has an intentional purpose. I’m looking for ideas to build a tiny home above a freestanding garage and this could totally work. My favorite part is the dining area, but I’d double the dining space by doubling up the table top with a fold out hinge. It would be good for extra guests and a workspace. I love the couch and coffee table a ton! I’d also make sure that it could slide out to be an extra guest bed. You are right! This is my favorite house!
The loft will be my favourite place.and I love they put plants, I'm big fan of plants. Good job Levi and Savannah

I could really get into a small house like this! I'm in northern Minnesota and have acreage to build on with a small budget. I just might have to build something like this!
I must say, their is so much thought that was put into that place, I had to watch it twice, I love it so much, what an artist!

Oh my. This is also one of my favourite tiny getaways. I'm in Australia, so may not be making it there any time soon. BUT what an inspirational piece of work. You can tell it's been lovingly built by peaceful and considerate minds and hands. I could live in this. May need to add on a little space for storage for everyday living. Just gorgeous!

Absolutely beautiful. Incredible and unique ideas and designs. You can get 'folding' stairs that would be perfect for small/tiny houses - they're incredible. It would be ideal for this 'nook' in the woods. Thank you for featuring this little peace of paradise in the forest.
Japanese techniques for blackened wood, is by burning the outer layer with a torch, evenly. It keeps the wood bugless and moist won't penetrate.

An absolutely gorgeous house! Very Zen-like in how the wood is treated, the design elements, and little touches here and there. I love also the needle-felted rabbit, bunnies, and bird in the built-in shelf next to the bed, and the painting of the woodlands as a headboard. All well thought out and set within a wonderful woodland in Ashville, NC. Jenny

North Carolina. Near Asheville. I've never been but have always wanted to go. My sister went to boarding school high school there, and I wasn't able to go to her graduation. I know it's beautiful. Some people locally anually spend their summers around there in the mountains, to get away from the heat. Have vacation summer homes. Artistic, authors, but other professions too.
