I was there on August 29 2024 and you couldn't see the pavement for people (sidewalk) when you see a walkabout on a RUclips video there is not many people about because they do it early on the morning like gimbal walk for example
They reckon Skegness is the worst seaside town in the UK I have been there and to me it's not ...
I agree Scarborough is not the best seaside town but it's not the worst either my favourite seaside town is Llandudno North Wales and trust me I've been to a few , all over Britain ....

@barryetchell1103 we'll I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, but I stopped at the Chatsworth with Caledonian coaches, and I had a brilliant experience . There is a beach on the other side of the town not the chatsworth side, though ....
And bed bugs I have been on 14 Caledonian coach holidays, all over the country and I've yet to experience a bad Hotel ....
I do agree some of the hotels could do with a little TLC but they are not that bad , for the price anyway ....

Small retail shops all round the globe have been disappearing for the last thirty or more years. I live in New Zealand and every town and city has had more and more shops empty and boarded up. Even big box stores are often only just hanging on. It’s a slow decline that you may not notice, but times have been progressively tougher.

I live here! This year as most years, was heaving with tourism! It’s quieter now, especially now the children have returned to school! It is unfair judging the place practically out of season. People come from every parts of the UK, not just Barnsley or Rotherham as someone mentioned! Yes shops have closed, through no fault of their own, as you well know! People pack out the outdoor theatre, where high profile celebs and singers come to do their concerts, so what people, or papers are talking about, i have no idea…guess they need to stay off the drugs!!! Instead of slamming the town altogether, come when it’s at peak and see for yourself, and help the town by at least finding some positives! The last thing we need is people being put off unnecessarily with bad unfair reviews!

It is not so crowded, but the seaside atmosphere is still good. Town businesses are closing, but it happens everywhere. With so many comments about "everywhere in the UK is the same now" I'm so glad I live in Romania. Nearest large town to me is Sighișoara (famous as the birthplace of Vlad Țepeș III, a.k.a. Dracula) and the city of Sibiu is not too far away. Firstly , you picked the best food in town so well done there My man
Scarborough is my home town , used to be a really great place to be , lots of things have changed but the very best aspects , the beaches , peasholm Park, marine drive , Italian gardens and lots of areas have divine architecture such as south cliff
I was away in Devon for 20 years and recently came home , I missed it so much , needed comfort after trauma , I have to say I don't feel at all at risk here , I love this town so much , over the years on visits I did notice the slow degradation happening , sad , as you say its like this everywhere so I hardly think we are the worst , still so much to offer , surf lessons , great food if you do your research as you did , tge people are STILL very friendly , no matter their nation of origin , I think that's down to it being a happy place
That , at least for me , hasn't changed a bit
    The Grand , such a shame 😕

Again so really the Americans did them a favour although it was a disaster at the time but now 80 years later F / M you only need to see the pictures of before and after which are circulating on RUclips to understand what I am talking about while this daft soft government keep bringing people in with a sob story because they can line their own pockets in the 5 years they are in power and also sending billions of pounds abroad on stupid causes nothing to do with Britain who are destroying our once great country but are not bothered as long as they are ok , Jack comes to mind 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧

@jackwatsonepic626 Well, if you have a legacy as a country of turning up on boats to take other countries over, pillage their resources, force your culture on them it's then a bit rich to moan about foreigners coming here for a better life.
BTW I was in Berlin last summer and Germany puts us to shame in how their care for their towns and cities. No boarded up shops, no litter, no pot holed roads and everything works compared our shithole of a country. We may have won the war but Germany won the peace.

I grew up in Penzance, Cornwall, a seaside town. Like others have said, 50 years ago these places were heaving with tourists, u.k. holidays were cheap and the high streets were full of independent shops. The rise in cheap foreign holidays, out of town mega supermarkets and the internet have destroyed all of this and WE are the ones to blame. Our expectations are very different now compared to then and our shopping habits too. The world has changed and we are still holding on to the nostalgia of yesteryear.

What better to go for a Lovely Mooch through the backstreets of this rather nice Seaside Town. I really did Like your video about the Grand Hotel of Scarborough. The Hotel just needs a Big Hotel Chain to come in and Fully Restore this Incredible Building. Somebody, like the Hilton Hotel Group. Bring it back to how it used to Look like back in the day but much better. Sadly places have had to close, lack of Money, Investment and just know Financial Support and Help from the Local Council and Government. What does one have of an Evening in Scarborough. You chose very Well Lee. i really liked the Kam Sang Chinese Restaurant. Lee, I really did like your Lemon Chicken with the Fluffy White Rice, and to Wash it down. That train shop has been there forever. There usedcto be a coin slot in one of the widows. When you put in a coin, an animated doll dressed as a Scotsman playing bagpipes started to move to bagpipe music. A Loch Ness Monster reared up out of what looked like a swamp. It was there for years and my children loved to watch it. Even as I've got older, a have to have a go. Don't know if it's still there as I've not been past recently.

We used to do coach holidays Monday to Friday or a 4 day weekend. The hotels were always ok, and were probably very nice 100 years ago.
But times have changed, people want power showers that work, WiFi, tv and much better service and decent food.
I only do premier inn now at least you can expect a certain level of accommodation/service, but that does appear to be slipping abit in some rooms.

You can blame the internet and on-line shopping for the number of closed down shops. People don't bother to go out shopping like they used to do, any more. It's easier and more convenient to buy stuff on-line. It's only the large companies and food chain-stores that get by, now.
Unsurprisingly, the Chinese restaurant you went to was very Anglicised. I'm sure the sweet and sour was rather sweet and cutlery was provided by default. Still, it's what the public want.

I was on a flight where I had an aisle seat. You can't really see out the windows from there. Fortunately, there was a guy taking a video of what was outside, and I got a great view looking at his phone screen. Much better than what I could see just looking at the window itself.

Loved your video, I'm an ex pat living in New Zealand for the last 45 years, I have fond memories of Scarborough, as we used to have some of our family holidays there, I hope one day to visit again. Something you might be interested in, apparently Adolf Hitler told his bomber pilots not to bomb the Grand Hotel as he wanted to use it as a headquarters once he was in England, not sure if that's true or not, but there you go. ?

In Bridlington, a bit further down the coast, there is a plaque on the wall of the northern promenade telling the story of the first time surfing was seen here.
It was 1890 and the king of Hawaii sent the princes to England for their education. The teacher was a Yorkshire man and brought the boys to Brid. They got a local boat builder to fabricate something for them to surf on and so the locals got to see this sport for the first time.
