  • kumbhak are of two types, internal and external and there are various techniques to practice kumbhak. a pranayama is complete when there is a combination of three aspects rechak, purak, and kumbhak. purak means to breath in, rechak means to breath out and kumbhak is the holding of the breath. when there is kumbhak not involved in pranayama then that exercise is usually a kriya.

      @@PradeepKumar-lv6om chisti Sufi master's became best friends with Hindu masters of India, the reason was because of these breathing exercises and the importance of awakening, Sufism respected yogis which were called " jogis ", and they belonged to other religions also.
      In yoga when you add mantra/dhikr while holding the breath it creates sparks of nur, this nur then slowly gets collected and grows and then brings you closer to Allah Almighty, because it opens your inner awareness.
      In yoga when you add mantra of holy Sanskrit, the yogis call it " full " breathing and without mantra they called it " empty ".
      Breathing is one thing but don't forget to add beautiful holy words, so you can awaken your holy being within. 🙏

      I have a doubt. Kumbag is retaining carbon di oxide is it not so? Whether any side effects will be there? Soonyaka ok.

    Good Sir, might you have any advice for a person with ADHD? It's been 31 years that I've been consistently attempting to meditate. I have made no progress at all. Still, I keep trying. All the advice is to "Simply observe your breath." "Just concentrate." "Just quiet your mind." "Just do this." "Just do that." Just, just, just. Nothing has worked in 31 years. Not a single moment of stillness. Less than 1 second passes before the mind wanders off again. Truly, it is that way. Can you imagine trying for that many years and not making any progress? Many people believe there is no such thing as ADHD and and person is lying and is trying to act like a victim. As the old saying goes, "Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes..." Another saying is, "Judge not, lest ye be judged (Don't make a judgment about a person, because someone else will judge you too.)." With all my being, I am not lying, exaggerating or trying to be a victim. I'm giving it all the effort I have to overcome this problem. Do you have any advice? Deepest thanks.

      I think at least now you now what not to practice or the right way of practice is something else. if you have already spent 31 years in this direction but eventually it requires only a couple of minutes to get it. it would be easy if you could send an email at theaadyog@gmail.com so that we can discuss deeply further.

      Only work on holding the breathe after exhalation. This will balance your adhd and slow down the chemicals etc. Then do as you wish.

      Accept yourself. I had students who has terrible ADHD and I just learnt to accept them and the beauty of the way their brain functions . When they started loving themselves it really got much better. ADHD is not a problem to be solved but a uniqueness to be embraced.

    Hi,
    What if Carbon Dioxide content needs to be increased for better Oxygen absorbtion on cells?
    Both, Internal and External Kumbhak are required or only External Kumbhak can be practiced?
    Main issues are: Fatigue, body pain, sleep issues.

    I would advise beginners to first get the hang of Anulom Vilom and Nadi Shodhan first before doing this, this isn't easy for a beginner, you gotta be careful doing this one

    How long can you retain air inside lungs...??? Swami Ramdev retain for 2.5 minutes. Be practical. One ounce of practice is better than thousands of theories

    hello, i have read shiva samhita translated i to my language and it says we should do 20 kumbhaks 4x times a day.. but what is meant by khumbhak ? i have read that it is the actually holding of the breath, so that would mean that on one cycle you did 4 khumbhaks so you will need to do 5 cycles ? thanks :)

      shodhan is like churning or you may understand it as a cleaning process with regular movement of breath. whereas the kumbhak is the stillness ( words are to little to explain the process)

    2 types of Kumbhak - wrong! there are 2 types of Kumbhak - 1st.: you do it yourself. 2nd. : it happens. 2nd is superior to the 1st, but you need to start somewhere. the best example of 2nd type is uncontrolled laughter. you are going so deep, that you might feel a choking, but this is exactly the point where Kumbhaka is most effective. another example of the 2nd type is deep meditation, where the flow of breath seems to stop for a period of time after inhalation and/or exhalation. it seems to stop, breath might stop but Prana doesn't stop. it continues to rise or fall in a very subtle way.
    why is Kumbhaka essential for Patanjali? you can master your energy body without it, you can gain a lot of power without it, but you can not meditate without it. 1st type can get you to Dharana, 2nd. type is needed for dhyana. and Dhyana is all that matters to Patanjali. if you say to him:" I meditate twice a day", he would slap you on the face pretty hard and say - you full, you have no clue what meditation is! if you are doing it, it is certainly not meditation.
