Kinda highlights how painful these the Australian gvm upgrade system is. In theory you'd have to keep the original shocks from the gvm upgrade? Toyota has published the difference in the gearboxes? How much shorter is 1st gear?
I can't find those specs or the one we chasing 1st gear low range differences, but its noticeably different, I really think an old one on 35s feels the same as current on 33s if that makes sense
interesting video Denny , it's a shame that they don't have a 34" it might be the best of both worlds in regards to gearing and fitment for a nearly standard truck, you have a fair amount of stretch on the air bag with the long shocks in place and i got a smile with you with fixing on the RC knuckle and CV funny stuff, 😁👍
Cheers JC, yes the 305 75 16 is a 34x12.5 but not many brands do that size, still feel that the 285 is the border/limit in low range on the VDJ for "true" rockcrawling control... Really needs Reductions..
Bit left of field question mate but have you had much experience behind the ever reliable 1hz in either the 80 or 105 landcruiser, if so what are your thoughts as a tourer or just too slow.. thinking of selling the vdj an going back to old school weird as that sounds
Doesn't sound weird mate, I often retire the 79 and jump in my LN106 2.8 with an aftermarket turbo for a change, sometimes up to a week, I love the old school trucks, the 1hz is a motor that eluded me, could never afford a HZJ75, had a HJ75 and quite a few 60s, I loved the 2H motor growing up and got plenty of power out of them with various different turbo options we did... The 1HZ with a nice turbo set up would do the Ausy roads and their conditions plenty of justice mate, no probs at all...
@@TeamBulletOffroad yeah the old trucks are calling me back after owning several vdjs and the 13 month wait thus so far on a new vdj has come to an end, I can no longer wait any more 🤦🏼♂️
the 79 flexed well Denny with the rear leaf springs in those rock steps , plenty of wheel lifts
There were... Cheers Rolly

So good
Did you notice much change in the fuel economy between the 285s and the 35s?
Chews a lot more with the bigger shoe, maybe an extra 1.5 litres per hundred kms
Hey mate just wondering how do you go with carrying a spare under the tray being a 35?
Im not mate, std size spare under tray
What offset rims where you running to keep the 35" under the flares to keep the po po happy?
