    Joel: "It's okay,baby girl... I got you."
Another amazing episode! All the protagonists delivered the right emotion everytime, we had a tenacious Ellie, a fighter Joel and a chilling David.
And the cameo from Troy Baker was such a delightful bonus.
Poor Ellie, she is taking trauma after trauma, and this one was absolutely horrendous.
Tha last scene with Joel was beautiful and heart breaking at the same time, two injured souls walking away but they surely have each other's back.

When David said "you've got a violent heart", it hit me, they've changed Ellie's character so it's less discordant with the events of TLoU2. It's subtle, but they definitely have.
Remember when Ellie had a weird look on her face when Joel was beating the the guard to death in episode. It was like a look of fascination. I dismissed it at the time. Then the scene where she kills the clicker and doesn't tell Joel. Neither of these things were in the OG game. Then her fascination with guns and doing a "Taxi Driver" in the mirror. She asks Joel for a gun in the game, but in the TV show it's different. They make a much bigger deal out of it and make Ellie look a bit unhealthy. Then the thing about putting her bully into the infirmary with 13 stitches in the flashback episode. Not in the OG game. That is TV show only. It hit me like a bolt when watching this episode. David said "you have a violent heart". That is NOT a line from the OG game and it ties everything together.
They have DEFINITELY given Ellie a dark side that is new. I think the reason might be that a lot of criticism of the second game events focussed on Ellie behaving out of character. There have added a darkness and a violence in TV show Ellie that is not in game Ellie, to make psychopath-Ellie in the second game, less jarring and out of character.

Your reaction to that final scene was very refreshing. Many people seem to feel like the scene where Ellie kills David is a triumph or empowering, but you look at her face and body language, and there was no victory there. He didn't get to complete what he was trying to do, but he still violated and assaulted her. At the end, she was still hurt and scared from everything-- not proud or confident that she "won against the bad guy". There was no winning with that, just surviving. Bella did so incredible with capturing that with her performance.

And you're totally right - you can contrast it to her response to killing the stalker in just the prior episode. There was joy in that, if only for a moment. This was pain and rage the whole way through.
Final note, Bella Ramsey is absolutely mesmerizing. Amazing range and depth for such a young actor.

I am not a game player so I look only at the HBO presentation. I think Joel was quite ruthless enough. Scary too because he doesn't present as a crazy sadist just an efficient torturer. Nothing personal as it were.
To explain deer hunting. It is a clean shot into the deer. It is common for the deer to run and drop dead. They also used the clicking noise that bucks make to misdirect people to think it's a clicker.

"If you lost in the darkness, look for the light"
If Ellie was the light in the darkness, there is not much left of it now. For Joel, it's still enough. He regains his light through her, at the same time she loses hers through him and this world. She is now his babygirl.
Another low point for Ellie and a turning point for her. Here the animal in Ellie came out with her overkill and the experience she had to make. Almost r*p*d and eaten. Here she experiences for the first time the worst abysses in man. I think if you've seen Ellie's past reactions to losses, there wasn't much anger involved. She swallowed Sam's death completely. Here in her outburst really everything came out, which was not seen before.
There is no way back for her. She will not be the same anymore. The episode is also important for the future. It shows what Ellie is capable of. A dark side in her that people like David recognize.
Another very good change to the original was to show that Joel didn't manage to interrupt Ellie's Overkill. So this scene ran much longer than in the game. Which, in wise anticipation of Part 2, shows that Ellie does not come to an end so easily when she has started something based on her emotions. Her emotions/charakter don't allow that. This wasn't just an overkill, this was an over-overkill.
I also think it's cool that the torture scene actually showed us explicitly how Joel has proceeded over the last 20 years. This was the first time it was really shown why everyone was afraid of Joel in episode 1.
    This is Joel we know.
A nice Tess callback from Ellie in the conversation with David.
"Your (our) luck had to run out sooner or later." were Tess's words shortly before she had shown Joel her bite.
The father of the girl Joel killed will always be with her. Surely she has become full.
It bothered me at first that none of the people of the city showed up at the end. But of course, the rest of the people didn't realize what was going on. The weather is shit and cold. They will sit in their houses and scrape the remains of the girls daddy out of their teeth. Okay, enough of the macabre. 😁
Troy Baker (Game Joel) as James was sensationell good. I didn't think that one day I would have to see Ellie kill Joel.
There will be properly another timejump. At the beginning of the next episode they will already be in Salt Lake City. Also, we'll see Ashley Johnson, who was Ellie in the game.

(Disclaimer: Just so you know my perspective, I haven't played the game.) As relieved as I was that Ellie had gained the upper hand and killed David, I was also absolutely devastated for her in that moment. Any innocence she still had was destroyed by what David did and attempted to do to her and by the fact that he forced her to hack him to death to avoid it. Ellie just lost a part of herself and will be forever changed and traumatised by these events. That guy was a monster and the thought of him being a former teacher, a trusted position with access to children, is terrifying. His comment to Ellie that it's the fight he likes most suggests that he's done what he was about to do to her before. Afterall, how do you know what you like about something unless you've done that particular something before?
Joel, on the other hand, is an absolute weapon. The way he arose from his death bed and took out the men left behind to search for him, despite being wounded and nowhere near fully fit, was quite simply epic. As for that interrogation scene.... well, let's just say he wasn't messing around. Nothing was stopping him, he was going to do whatever was necessary to get back to Ellie. On that note, I totally expected that Joel would burst in at the last minute to save Ellie, but I'm so glad they actually had Ellie save herself. She went beast mode. She's a true survivor. She is Joel's daughter.
Can't fault this episode. Can't wait for the finale.
P.S. If someone feels the need to tell you how good they are it's probably because they've shown you otherwise and as the old saying goes, "judge people by what they do, not what they say."
