    To help elaborate:
Runner - Stage 1 (Granny, Sam, etc.) - The infection spreads to the brain and takes over. Runners are super aggressive, uncoordinated, and focused on spreading the infection. (Vast majority of people die before the next stage and only stay runners. Remember the museum scene in episode 2. There were 2 living clickers but then a crap ton of dead infected that Joel and Ellie and Tess were walking over. Those dead infected weren't killed by people, the people died as the infection started to grow out of the head.)
Stalker - Stage 2 (The one who slowly walked up and kissed Tess) - Over time, the infection starts to come out of the brain (usually on one side first). Stalkers can walk, hide, be sneaky, and are much more coordinated than Runners. They can still see because they have at least one of their eyes.
Clicker - Stage 3 (the ones in the museum) - The infection has progressed into growing out of both sides of the head. The eyes are gone, so the Clicker uses hearing. and echolocation to track people. Really hard to kill, but knifing to the throat works really well in the game (and it's also how Ellie got those two Clickers off of Sam and Henry).
Bloater - Stage 4 (episode 5) - The infection has continued and sprouted out of the entire body, creating a sort of armor. They're super violent and kill people, not just infect them."
    Hope this helps!

    @Spartan & Pudgey,
4:49 I can see why you called Perry "Tony," as he's the mocap/voice actor for the in-game "Tommy." Similar sounding name. Perry was the name of Kathleen's lieutenant.
You're correct with the Infected stages: Runner, Stalker, Clicker, Bloater...
Runners look like regular people though a bit feral. You can usually see what looks like irritated skin that looks like webbing or a blistering rash.
Stalkers have fungal growth on various parts of exposed skin, as we almost always see their faces, you'll see that growth here--the Infected Ellie killed in the basement in the third episode was a Stalker.
Clickers are the ones who've lost the ability to see since their hosts skull was split just below the bridge of the nose to make way for the fruiting Cordyceps under the skull.
Bloaters are, well, bloated clickers covered from head to toe with fungal growth.
Assuming Ellie's blood truly is the key to turning the tide, they'll never make a cure for this. They can't. The infected are alive! What do you suppose would happen to a person who was forced to watch themselves ruin countless families over and over again for days or months? They'd be psychotic, and this is actually the least of our concerns, as we can't regrow eyes, let along half a skull--the fungal growth would have to be permanent reminder of what a person was--Ellie's still has her webbed scarring too, so if she can't heal, why would others?
The best Firefly doctors should be able to do is make noninfected like Ellie, Immune from becoming Infected. Anyone turned is likely already screwed. The Cordyceps wall off the brain, imprisoning the host in his/her own mind. How do you undo that? I doubt scientist have the science to rewire the brain, connecting it back to the body. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't see that happening. Infected all have to be killed--those living would be doing them all a favor, ending their nightmare of a life.
Infected never sleep and they don't eat. They forced to watch, smell, hear the horrors they're doing and they have a hunger that'll never be sated, as the Cordyceps don't feed on prey or anything. Cordyceps drawn sustenance from their hosts body and once its drained of its resources the Cordyceps will start to branch out looking for a new vessel, and not before then.
7:59 Why would Ellie be sorry for falling asleep? That's the least of Sam/Henry's problems. Ellie told Sam her blood was a cure--she gave him hope! She's obviously sorry because she assured him that things would be okay, and they weren't. This story will show her regret and pain of that loss. I'm just surprised that there are people who think her apology was for falling asleep.
9:13 They're called magic slates, and apparently they were popular from the 1950s to 1980s--I had one as a kid, but never really played with it.
19:00 Her bites will forever show that she's been bitten by a person. That's why she can never show her bite mark to anyone. The Cordyceps in her have to be dead, which explains why she hasn't turned and why they haven't grown past the point of the webbing on her forearm; Ellie's immune system did to the Cordyceps what the Cordyceps were going to do to her. Her immune system built a barrier around the Cordyceps, protecting her from the fungal invaders. I assume that this is why the dog was initially confused with Ellie, she probably has a hint of Cordyceps in her system, but even that is likely fleeting. When she left the QZ it had been 3 weeks since her bite, and we saw from the FEDRA soldier's device that she still registered as infected. I wonder if that'd still be the case now? My guess is no, as I believe the Cordyceps insider her are dead, but maybe we'll get confirmation on that by the time this season ends.
21:15 Yeah, that's the same actor. He grew his hair out and a mustache to play an older version of himself here.
24:27 she was 14 when she died 20 years ago, so she very well could have been ='(
31:03 Literally EVERYONE alive now knows what loss is--Ellie grew up in an orphanage! I get that Joel is hurting, but I'm gobsmacked that he thinks his loss his worse than anyone else's.
40:35 This episode got Pudgey three different times, granted one time was happy tears.
43:30 What if that was it, what if that was the condition of Tommy living there, giving up his former life? Tommy didn't have the Fireflies watching his back, and we heard from him that the road to the university his a problem area. Tommy had the option of living the easy life or trying to survive on his own--we know what he chose, and I bet any of us in his situation would have done the same too. From Tommy's point of view, he always knew Joel would be okay without him, so I can see why he didn't worry about him. Joel had closed himself off from feeling, so I can see why Tommy also didn't try to contact him. That hug they gave each other was probably the first in decades!
This was a great story and I love the cliffhanger. It's similar to what happened in the game at this point of the story. I suspect next week's episode will be like the third episode, a story about the past with a dash of the present at the end--this sidequest is going to drive everyone crazing wanting to know what happens, lol. Now those who haven't played the game get to see how those of us who have felt, lol. We had to do some other things before finding out. This is different, but similar.

Pretty much agree with everything you've said here except for one thing, Ellie is sorry for falling asleep because she promised Sam that she would stay awake with him to comfort him/ keep an eye on him if he was turning, she ended up breaking that promise and sam turned during the night, scared and alone..... What's interesting about this show also is that the characters' reactions to things make sense completely from their points of view. Like in this one, Joel feels betrayed a bit that Tommy didn't contact him but it was said in the first episode that they were estranged 'cause Joel believes that Marlene turned Tommy against him. In this one Tommy said "Thanks for still giving a shit about me," insinuating that from his point of view, it was in doubt that he did. Probably from the falling out they had. It's really interesting that you hear someone's point of view in a narrative being told and you could take it as gospel, but then you hear another one's and you can tell that theirs is from a completely different angle, which then makes sense also. But, in Joel and Tommy's case, neither of them hate the other. From Maria's POV, she hears only one side and has certain ideas about Joel that are only from a snapshot in Joel's and Tommy's life. Just very real way of portraying characters. None of them are inherently bad or even necessarily wrong to believe what they believe, given their experiences.

    Cool fact/detail here 36:26
is that the makers of the last of us and the show creators put this in to honor the people who play Joel and Ellie in the game.
The guy that plays Joel loves music and can play guitar and few other instruments and all that so they made it so joel wanted to be a singer.
The girl who plays Ellie loves space and could tell you everything about it.

About the “Etch-a-Sketch”, it’s actually just a semi-translucent sheet over a black rubber pad. Normally the sheet looks white, but if you press it into the pad with the stylus it forms a temporary bond and you can see through it so it looks black. Pulling the sheet away breaks the bond, therefore “erasing” it. Very clever, simple, reusable tool.

I remember getting to this part of the game and thinking “How in the world does Joel survive this?” then realizing he’s actually dying and thinking “Joel can’t die! He’s the main character! We play as Joel! If Joel dies then…” and realizing that the story is about Ellie, that we can play as Ellie, and that Joel doesn’t need to survive for Ellie to reach the Fireflies. You are not alone. I beat this game back when it came out and although I enjoyed it I did not remember a great deal beyond certain key events. For example I remember sarah's death vividly but did not remember Bill from the game or Sam and Henry (although it came flooding back during their final scene) - I do remember an event that is probably coming in episode 8 and how it ended but the early to middle part of the game after the prologue didn't stay with me for whatever reason.
I remember how praised the game was for being the game that showed how good "cinematic storytelling could be done in video games" but I resented this opinion a little as I am a big fan of the PS1 era Final Fantasy games and the Metal Geat Solid series which have far more complex stories that had much more lasting impact on me and done so well. Maybe this had something to do with how much I remembered? Who knows.

It's called the River of Death, because Ellie named it that. She's the first person we hear call it that. They said "never go past this river" and "If your brother is west of the river, he's gone"
    19:49-19:53 Pudgey "Just stop here"
So, forget trying to end the Infected, forget keeping a promise to Tess?
33:50-33:55 "All this, just to say goodbye again"
This time Joel knows where Tommy is, and that Tommy is someplace safe. The last few months he didn't know Tommy's condition, and now he has someplace to come back to, if he chooses to when this task is over.
    37:18-37:25 Ellie: "They just left?"
    Spartan: "What timing"
Ellie wasn't asking "they just left" as in we barely missed them, but that "they simply packed up and left"
Just has many uses in American English, not sure how many of them are as common elsewhere. Just can be relative to time "just now" or "Just yesterday" it can be right "it is just" or statement of fact "It's just this answer", or a matter of simplicity "They just stopped trying?" or "he just didn't call"

Marlene knew Ellie's mom. My Theory is that Ellie's mom got infected when she was almost having Ellie , and they got to take Ellie out of her mom, the infection got into Ellie's imune system and that's why she can't turn, its a part of her body system. And that's why Marlene didnt kill her when She found them at the mall, probably with Riley dead because Ellie had to shoot her when She turned. My Theory, since we don't have anything about her mother, but Marlene told Ellie that she knew her mom, and that Marlene was the one that delivered Ellie to Fedra to be safe.
And Riley stated in this last episode that Ellie never got a family (because her mom got infected when She was preagnent, and Marlene knows Thats why she's imune) again, only a theory i came up about

I can relate to Joel feeling "weak" and having thoughts of failing someone he cared for since I just turned 53 and my new wife is 33. Although I used to be athletic (e.g. martial arts, hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, gravel biking, competitive swimming and tennis, and exercised at the gym 4-5 times per week), these days I no longer partake in most of those activities, and my mind and body aren't as strong and resilient as they used to be. I've literally thrown out my lower back after getting out of bed, and recently nearly passed out while biking a mile up a steep hill in San Francisco.

He could have recorded one last message "Can't respond no more, group is careful" and left it at that.
