A CJ 8 Scrambler would be a better choice. I had an 84 Scrambler and it was great driving with the doors and top off and once in awhile with the windshield down. And yes even in the winter in NYC.
I bought a 77 CJ5 around 1997 , I had to replace the Body Mounts and Bolts too , I still have it too , that 4.0 I-6 has 170.000 miles on it I've replaced two Clutches in it , I did replace the Carberator with Fuel Injection, it Smokes a little on start up but don't we all..
Surprised he didn't look at the brakes or suspension [saw the entire episode on TV] I like Ant, he is a very knowledgeable guy and explains things nicely but sure miss good ole Ed.
Stop while you're ahead & replace tub & windshield frame with fiberglass ones. You'll lighten load on frame by 500+ lbs & your jeep suspension will raise up ~3" like you installed a lift kit. I've owned both a 1979 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade & a 1982 Jeep (CJ8) Scrambler so can speak with some authority on this subject. The rust is unstoppable & will break out again & again in new places. I am surprised you found one in that good of shape honestly. It must have been covered in a garage most of it's life.
Great video although it ended abruptly and left me wondering what happened. Maybe ending the video with a hint at the next videos content would be a great add to keep people interested. I’m no pro here so please take my comment with good intentions.
@@Connlew I'm curious about the trigger And a welding rod..? I've seen wire welding with a feed wire..and welding with a stick, but I've never seen both at the same time.
You should ALWAYS disconnect the ground cable from the battery BEFORE disconnecting the positive cable. That prevents inadvertent sparking/grounding of the wrench being used. The CJ-7 was NOT the end of the line for the CJ Series. There was/is a CJ-8 that came after the CJ-7.
It's so sad they don't make jeeps anymore. I wish someday you get to experience MOAB in all it's jeep glory! I own a renegade as well and it's a 1980. I'm not good looking and I'm also 55 but when I pull into a off-roaders event, all the cute girls collect around mine and not those pathetic chrysler knock-offs. CJs are tinker toys, there's not a single part that can't be ordered. Good vid😎 YJ. sadly, and this is the truth! stands for "yuppie jeep"
You are spot on about CJ's. When I was in high school, my uncle had a CJ-7 with a bikini top that we would use to hunt mulies and pronghorn on his ranch. It was always an adventure to hunt pronghorns in early September when the days were in the mid eighties and mulies in late November when the mornings hovered around twenty degrees. Those are some of the best memories of my life.
I've like Jeep Wranglers for a long time, however any of the ones in my price range are always rotten thanks to all of the salt on our Canadian roads in the winter...lol
You did not show where the body mounts are especially the hard to get to spots by the tire next to the tank I rather see you showing that then showing the bolts you place on the bench mate.
It changed from CJ to YJ because Jeep eventually realized that people do not like to be called civilians as it has a derogatory ring to it. So the Jeep 'advertising campaigners' (again that reference may be derogatory and might soon change to engineers or something), decided after watching an alcoholic beverage campaign bearing the slogan 'Your life, your rules' to change the name to YJ. In other words, 'Your Jeep'. So there you have it.
Nice Jeep. I have a 77 CJ7 that I am restoring and daily driving. Man, I love this Jeep.
Why we could not find any full episodes on your channel? I love your series! Both engineer of yours are awesome!
Where can I get new blue denim seats? Oh also I wish my 77 CJ7 were in that kind of shape.
Verry Nice car, all my life l dream to have like this jeep but i can't realize it. Mike ,really you do goid job!!

Yikes man! What's going on to kill clutches that often?
they never had 4.0 engines

You mean quit while you're ahead and just buy something better...
Stunning Jeep
Thar is better
when are you doing a tr7 or tr8
can you share how you got the broken body mount bolts out? Same issue with my 1985
How did you get your whitworth wrenches to work on that cj7?
I've own and drove 2 Jeep wranglers as a daily driver. Loved the cars, but they suck on gas and space badly.
Great video although it ended abruptly and left me wondering what happened. Maybe ending the video with a hint at the next videos content would be a great add to keep people interested.

I need more !
I didn’t know dopey Brewer war spanks ??? Under his white shorts at the drive in the desert
What a girl 😂😂😂😂😂
What type and thickness of Sheetmetal did you use?
The hole saw 🤯
4:00 lol this happened to me when taking the bolt out of my YJ. Had to cut it.
What kind of welder is that?
TUNGSTEN INERT GAS or TIG for short

How does it work...operate?
Where's the rest of this repair?
I would love for my 79 to be that rust free. Mine is more holes than not. Even my windshield frame has rust holes lol
why did the body have to come off the chassis to weld that bit ???
Thanks good information 👍👍👍👌👌👌🇮🇳🇮🇳

How much is it
Nice and simple....
A sand blast the whole body would've been beneficial since it's not complicated task and fun to do....great jeep.
My dream car
That looks like Daisy Duke's jeep!
Amazing
"I'll sand until I have good metal" next shot , Ant with the petrol filler cap in hand, no body.
I expected that Ant will find yesterday newspaper in body like Dereck Trotter in Only Fools and Horses...
Price
Fun toy to play with not so much as a daily driver.
GOOD BEAUTIFUL. JEEP STUPENDA NE VORREI UNA ...!

Remember to disconnect the bat tree before removing it from the chassis😄 -Ant 2020
This is the only video on this CJ7 I find from you. 😕
Nice!
Where's edd
3 seconds into this video and I am already rolling my eyes...........its not a car, its a damn jeep!
He forgot the beautiful and more practical CJ8 SCRAMBLER
Dude, that was the clutch bellcrank not the emergency brake cable....and for God's sake, DON'T drill the pan!
There's a good reason you can't find early CJ's.
Who was the girl selling it.?
Glad you could save 'Jeep'
Re-pops say 'Joop'
Tig welding why not just mig it
those are some very cool graphics
They should have driven it up a muddy mountain trail before doing the restore just because it would have been the right thing to do.
Oh shit, here we go again.

Interestingly enough the cj7 wasn't the last. There was a cj8.

Or yuppie jeep
@@MrJeep75 Now that's funny!
Am in Uganda Africa
You might want to Google cj 8 scrambler
This jeep looks great y is he destroying it
That looks find too me
he skipped a lot of steps before removing the body from the frame
It's not a car, it's a Jeep, and I own 3 of em..a 1949 Cj2a, a 1958 Cj5, and a 1985 Cj7....
I should have one of those
Buy the Thar or the roxor
Second time wheeler dealers have done a cj7 are they running out of ideas
Ant chats a load of shite but he's a good mechanic
what can you expect!! he is European. its obvious he will forget about many details like cj1 is a ford willy and cj5 - cj8 is AMC ..
The CJ8 exists. Please stop calling them cars.
Annnn tooooo nnnnneeeyyyyy
Typical jeep rust
First hehe
Here is your medal 🥇 What a legend. I want you to have my babies.
Ed was better at this.
Great jeep but worst wheeler dealer episode ever, what a pair of creeps, Edd is well out of it.
Ant is better than edd
Both are great!
Always enjoyed the show ,,But Edd made out he was splitting the atom when he changed a fuse .
I didn't realise it was a popularity contest. Thought it was a car show?
Man you ruined that jeep
Go back to doing the show in Europe, American cars are just boring. And Ed already did the CJ.
So you haven't seen the episode where they explain why they had to go to the US I'm guessing?
It's not a car period!!!!!
