I just became a NZ citizen this year and hate to be negative but have no idea why anyone would want to move here. This country used to be amazing. The cost of living is ridiculous, lack of housing is at crisis levels, medical system is imploding, our government needs to go…. I hope you have a great experience but unless you are independently wealthy you are coming to struggle street.

Seriously, my heartiest good wishes. You are a lovely couple.
I can attest to your sentiments viz-a-viz bringing your SA stuff (save for the sentimental) to far. Made the same mistake when we moved to the UK, we ended up chucking most of the stuff we brought, when we realised just how (relatively - I was already earning USD & GBP when we moved) cheap stuff is overseas. Always use the Big Mac standard when working out relative earnings / price of goods. Forget about exchange rates.

New Zealand has become a economic nightmare, houses are way overpriced, the healthcare system is on the verge of collapse, food prices are out of control. Pertrol (gas is $3 per L) the youth crime wave is growing. 12year olds are steeling cars to post their antics on tictok while the police refuse to give chase. The government is a total joke. The clean green environment is not so clean with waterway polluted by farm run off and ground water being stolen by large corporations for bottled water to be shipped off to Asia. I was born in nz in the 1970’s and left 10 years ago to live a better life in Australia. Good luck

Spotlight for curtains and fabrics, Manchester etc, but always wait til they have sales. Save big bucks, same with Briscoes for toasters, vacs, homewares etc, again just wait two weeks to buy as they regularly have sales. Warehouse also for cheaper clothes and KMart too. Definitely shop around for any item, as they will price match mostly but good to get any discount. Remember to ask as they don’t willingly tell you but they will price match other similar stores. Once you start earning Nz dollars you will soon get over price shock because you will be constantly converting from SA rands for now. Best advice is to simply forget conversions, as you earn and pay in NZ dollars it will get easier.😊

They eventually emigrated to NZ and set up home. Doing exceptionally well him being a plumber doing his own business and her not working, except playing for concerts with her harp. Own property, BnBs .I visited her 15 years ago met some South Africans who said if it wasn't for my friend life for them weren't that easy. They were painted with the people who allowed apartheid and the injustices inflicted on non white and people of other races. My friend and hubby has helped many families and abandoned children in NZ. Id suggest Alberta then down to Idaho. There has been a mass move of many Canadians for several very good reasons. Many Americans have relocated to different states like idaho for freedom issues.

Heeey, you guys were in North Beach road? We lived in westbrook beach club until recently. Moved down to king shaka estate almost 3 months ago. The whale season this year has been absolutely spectacular. Almost every day for more than 2 months we see whales having an absolute jol. And Super close to the backline.
Heck even this morning I saw one just by beach bums right at the backline. It was the size of a bus!

Hi 👋 If you’ve had your driver’s license for more than 2 years I think, you don’t have to do any tests. Except for an eye test. Was very simple to convert, and now it’s valid for 10 years.

Welcome to Whangarei. I hope it works out well for you. My only tip is to do your big shopping at Pak 'n Save. You will save hundreds or thousands of dollars a year. Countdown is more expensive, New World even worse. You are more likely to get a bigger range at the more expensive supermarkets but a packet of Persil is a packet of Persil.
