    • @broeheemed32

      There were a lot of issues in this show, but - sadly - Phil Collins was one of them. He just didn't know the material and missed the mark on pretty much every tune. He was not the right choice, but he wasn't the only one that made people cringe. Page was still "altered" at this time, and most would agree that Plant's vocals were less than sub-par. A shame, really..... I expect that anyone there who thought they were going to see Led Zeppelin in their prime were disappointed.

    A big problem with live anthem singers is they don't know the difference between a song in 4/4 and 3/4, so they completely botch the American anthem and it sounds absolutely terrible. Actual musicians often understand, and can play well, but tons of performers aren't musicians and don't understand the difference.

      The Star Spangled Banner is an extremely difficult song to sing... most people don't realize it because they either sing it in a large crowd of people, or softly to themselves. Consider the range between "Oh say can you see..." and "...for the land of the free...". Most people don't have the vocal ability to cover that range. And 99.9% of Americans don't know that the version they're used to hearing at sporting events is only the FIRST verse...there are alot more words, most describing very violent scenarios!

    • @calebhohneke8482
      @calebhohneke8482 2 месяца назад +1

      @@klmullins65 The Star Spangled banner requires a two octave range. A two octave range for men and women is common. The Star Spangled Banner was written in the key of Bb major, and most singers sing it in the key of G (the most popular key for many genres) for comfort reasons. If you start off the song in a familiar key and at a lower octave of your register, there really shouldn't be much issue hitting the notes towards the end. The most complex parts of the anthem require good vocal control during the longer notes and being able to feel the 6/8 or 3/4 time signature. When professional singers struggle to sing it, it more often has to do with choices they made that made the song harder to sing to hit those upper power notes. In the end, it's a song that's as complex as you want to make it. If you aim for a range and key that's comfortable for your voice, it isn't all that difficult to nail. But obviously singers want to show off a bit too haha. People are use to hearing it in a "pushing the limits" kind of way hence why people think it's extremely difficult to sing. But it doesn't have to be sang that way. Jack Black's rendition is a perfect example. Didn't overdue it, sang in a range that's comfortable, and nailed it.

      @@calebhohneke8482 Yes, but its not an easy song to sing if youʻre NOT a professional, or at least a talented non professional. Bresth control, and singing songs in the proper pitch in order to nail the whole song…those arenʻt techniques that your average person consider when singing a song. Iʻve been a musician for decades, and i now struggle to sing along with hymns at church now, because I run out of breath before i can get the words out, especially Episcopalian hymns. Im not a trained musician, but i am a talented instrumentalist, and iʻve had a “decent” voice, given the right material. Imo, our National Anthem should be simpler, and more folk-based….”This Land is Your Land”, “America the Beautiful”, “God Bless America”… any of those songs would be better, plus theyre not about bombs and rockets, and slaughtering Red Coats. Here's another one. Poison at the 1990 MTV VMA's. Guitarist C.C. DeVille started playing the wrong song instead of the one planned for the performance, mostly because he was wasted. This led to lead singer Bret Michaels getting into an argument with C.C. backstage after the performance and C.C. later got kicked out of the band, at least temporarily.

My friend had his cassette tape liner and wanted to have it signed. No one was paying him for anything and he just sat there chastising everyone for not running up to give him money. Deville was a complete douche and many of the people there just turned abound and walked out.

And even Whitney Houston said that she was inspired by Marvin Gaye's performance to do the arrangement she did at the Super Bowl. But they have signed contracts, etc. out of wanting fame, fortune, etc. But if they are not prepared for it, then they should not perform. Carly Simon and Barbra Streisand are known to not give live performances because too many things can go wrong. So they won’t perform. A lot of these young artists should learn that lesson. If you’re not up to it, stay home.

It's interesting to see THAT one against The Who at Live Aid, which also was plagued with technical problems, but they pushed through just playing their hearts out despite the screw ups. The Who salvaged their set while Zeppelin fell apart. There is a video out there going over all the viewpoints of that mess where everyone, I think, takes a share of blame, but some got dumped on harder than others, unjustly so. Tbh, performances on TV rarely translate well, they often seem to employ the worst sound technicians and it ends up sounding completely different to what it sounds like in reality.

    As an Australian, I'm surprised Meatloaf's performance at an Australian Football League (AFL) Grand Final wasn't mentioned!

      I was expecting it to be there. It was a masterclass in what not to do.

      Yeah but I saw him do the Star Spangled banner and he was great. Cindy Lauper did a good job too.

    I just wanna give some form of credit to all the musicians that was on the drug train in the 60-90s and still could deliver fantastic live performances even though they had amounts that would kill anyone else in their bodies

      They didn't spit or vomit on the crowd but it is still a classic performance.

    The Ingrid Andress national anthem was quite possibly the worst live performance in history. 😂

    Milli Vanilli is the norm now with most all bands. They were just ahead of their time.

    Now days Will Smith’s daughter doesn’t even try to hide that she’s lip syncing to a track and nobody says anything. What ended careers years ago is totally acceptable today

    I was physically present the time Macy Gray attempted to sing the national anthem at the hall of fame game and it was an atrocity that makes all of these look professional and smooth.
