The thing is Steven Hillenburg WAS a marine biologists, so SOME things such as the goo lagoon are actually scientifically accurate, while other things were just meant to be jokes. It's difficult to know which is which. My way of viewin it is: "assume it's just cartoon logic, but if a detail is interesting and you're curious about it, look it up."
That makes me wonder if Mr. Krabs intentionally detached his arms in “Squid’s Day Off” like some crabs can in real life
Like the moving rock in "Pizza Delivery" being an actual phenomenon.

Half of the cartoon is scientifically accurate, the other half is purposely trying to screw with guys like you two.
I swear, the way that Squidward said “I’ve come for your pickle.”, just sounds like a hidden adult joke to me.

I think the reason why Squidward became more snail like than SpongeBob was because he is a mollusk like Gary. Squidward is a cephalopod mollusk while Gary is a gastropod.

Simple, it just needs to bring its own oxygen and burn hot enough to overcome water cooling. For example: Thermite, once burning, will continue to burn underwater

It's like a running gag that stopped being funny roughly 10 episodes ago. You'd think they'd understand cartoons this far in.
"You injected me with snail plasma" made me stomach drop with the force of a hundred rollercoasters as a kid and it's not much different now. What a horror scenario on both sides. The guilt from screwing up so badly on Squidward's end, obvious fear on Spongebob's.

The Karate Choppers episode is basically the reason SpongeBob was originally so popular. They made episodes like these to appeal to children, and adults.

This show meant a lot to me as a kid. Here’s the thing. I was born blind. Even though I could never see the screen, the sounds alone were enough for me to enjoy SpongeBob in general. Thank you all so much for reacting to these episodes. Love and blessings to you.

I love watching “Scaredy Pants” and “I Was a Teenage Gary,” as they are some of my top favorites S1 episodes! Getting to officially meet the character of the Flying Dutchman during the Halloween episode of all things was pretty cool. And I also enjoy the scene scene when Gary, Snail Spongebob, and Snail Squidward sing/ meow “Blow the Man Down” on the fence, and Patrick pelting Squidward with a boot, which is incredibly hilarious to me, lol!
I mean, in the early Simpsons, things are set on fire without explanation, yet we don't question it. SpongeBob is just Spongebob logic.
As far as fire under water is concerned, I am fully willing to believe that Mr. Krabs, being the hearty Navy vet that he is, has some stock of white phosphorus in his back pocket.
Fire can burn hot enough underwater that it evaporates the water around it before its extinguished, hence how flares are used underwater and how underwater volcano and flaming cracks in the earth are present.

Fire can burn underwater, and welding and construction work can even be done deep into the water's depths by utilizing the power of fire. With a specialized welding torch, dual hoses can create oxygen gas and a combustible substance so that a fire may burn. Idk about a campfire

Actually you can have fires under water but it’s only certain types. I’ve had waterproof matches that I lit and put under water and they were still burning while submerged
I remember as a kid seeing “I Was A Teenage Gary” once on TV and then never seeing it again until I rented the “Halloween” VHS, having never seen “Scaredy Pants”. Turns out those two things were related.
Every episode is aired always with the same sister episode. Scaredy pants and I was a teenage Gary always aired on tv together.

Hillenburg was indeed a marine biologists, and he used that knowledge to make a cartoon with cartoon logic. Like, he would use his knowledge to then make jokes, while ultimately still being a cartoon at the end of the day. In a way, he had his cake and ate it too in how things were accurate but still in fantasy.

Theoretically it is possible to have fire underwater. I think it needs enough oxygen and has to be hot enough, but I‘m not a scientist so I can’t explain it right. If you look it up, you will get a proper answer how that actually works 😂

Fun fact: the episode I Was a Teenage Gary was the subject of a false case of lost media that was created because of the Mandela Effect. People remembered a scene of Squidward transforming into a snail after he was injected, and it was assumed that the scene in question was too scary so they cut it out from later airings. It wouldn't have been the only episode with scenes cut for various reasons, so it seems plausible (I am curious if you'll be seeing the cut or uncut versions of those later episodes).
The search was finally debunked when someone found a recording of the original airing of the episode, with no missing scene to be found.
