One of my dance instructors made the comment one night. "There are 3 rules of dance." "1, Follower has a good time, 2, Lead has a good time, 3, no one gets hurt!" Love your videos!

We'll be putting out more videos again soon. We've been hard at work on X Dance University the last couple weeks. We will, however, have a new video post here tomorrow (Wednesday) :-)

    Great info. Thanks!
11:32 This was the earliest tip I remember when I was first leaning to dance: the leader should be making the follower look and feel good about their dance. Years later that's still something I focus on all the time. If she's happy, I'm happy, even if the pattern I initially intended to lead didn't work out as planned. If I can finish the pattern in a way that works with what she is doing, then I switch to that on the fly. It's fun for both of us.

That’s exactly it! It is “partner” dancing. Being a good partner means more dances. Seems pretty straight forward hahaha

Hey guys!! I just want to let you know that you have been an amazing resource for me. I have been a Ballroom and Latin guy for 20 years now and have recently been teaching my students some country. I’ve truly indulged myself in your videos and have taken away a plethora of learning from your Quality instruction. Fun to watch too! Thank you! Hope to see you at comps!

We love to hear that. I (Anthony) first started my teaching career with Ballroom and Latin in 96 and passed my gold cert in the late 90s. I didn’t start focusing on country until the late 90s as well. The structure and discipline of ballroom training certainly helped influence my teaching style and the way I process things.
We hope you enjoy country dance as much as we do. Thank you for joining us here and for your message!

You guys are GREAT teachers !! Comment - variation I've seen on Texas 2 step is "Quick; CLOSE; Slow; Slow". You guys use "Quick; Quick; Slow; Slow".
Being a Texan ... I prefer the "Close" option. It gives an unexpected stutter step. Your opinion??

Nice tips thanks! No need to stop Two Step Tuesdays, you have 6 more days! West Coast Wednesdays? Ha! Actually I would like to learn Country Waltz and Polka. When I took a ballroom Waltz class it was bronze level and it confuses ladies at Country night.

We will definitely keep posting Two Step, and now we'll have more ability to post WCS, and Waltz, and Polka, and Nightclub Two Step, and, and, and ... We have some big stuff planned for 2020. Stay tuned :-)

We have been watching and learning for a few months now. What do you wear on your feet dancing? Looking for shoes for my guy and not sure what to get....and where to get? Live in Canada

      Hi there. Thanks for watching!
It depends on whether you want dance shoes or dance boots. I (Anthony) wear “International Dance Shoes” when wearing shoes, and “Ultimate Dance Boots” when in cowboy boots. I believe you can get both from www.danceconnection.com

Again good stuff. I've noticed, mostly with untrained "natural" dancers they don't look where they're going or pay attention to others on the floor. That's the leaders job. Occasionally I have one partner who tries to do the driving. My pet peeve is LET THE LEADER DO THE DRIVING. The follower should only hijack that in an emergency. Another common thing beginner followers do in the weave is try to walk a big circle around the leader instead of dancing "through" the partner. I guess there are a lot of little things to consider when learning to dance just like driving a car. And these basics should be reviewed occasionally, just like driving a car.
    (end of rant)

Hahaha. We enjoy reading your rants, Tyson.
There are soooo many things to think about when learning to dance. The best thing we can do as teachers in try to prioritize them with the most important things first.
      Thanks for contributing as usual!

Most follows are good at letting the leader lead if he's confident. Where I run into back leading is taking classes. The lady knows what to do but she does it too early. Sometimes I throw in a different move just to surprise her and break her of that habit. If she complains I just say "It's a good thing I'm leading."

  • @Texas.Shave96

But there isn't nothing wrong with the male dancing backwards or is there?🤔 I would guide her by going backwards just so she'll be comfortable going forward and she'll not worry about looking back. Every once a while I'll let her dance backwards but I keep it minimum.

    • @countrydancex
      @countrydancex  4 года назад +1

No... there’s nothing wrong with the lead going backwards. However, I wouldn’t suggest that as the default or basic step. It’s the leaders job to lead and protect the follower. Floorcraft is more challenging when you’re not looking where you’re going.
On the other hand, the follower will seldom just walk backwards anyway. She’ll also walk forward just as much (while the lead walks forward beside her) ... and she spends more time turning than walking anyway :-)
