after watching this video, I looked them up, checked reviews, then ordered......they arrived in 2 days! installed them last night, and before, with the door closed, you could see light around the whole perimeter, now not at all. I live in a rural area, with virtually no blockage of wind, my garage faces south, but we've had several occasions in the winter over the years of a brutal south wind.....one time so strong that I tried jamming wood between the door and the track ( didn't work ) so glad I found out about these. Thanks!
Very informative video, Mark. I'll put this on my DIY project list. I suggest checking the bottom door seal. I never go halfway when I'm doing a DIY job. I'm also putting on new rollers when I do the hinges. As for cost? Cost never stands in my way of doing a project. Consider the labor cost if someone else does the work for you.
I was looking online to see what others are saying about Green Hinges and found your Video. Nice job on it. I've had the Green Hinges installed on my 16 ft. door for about 2 yrs. now with Zero issues. They've made a substantial difference in my "garage comfort level" as they've pretty much eliminated any unwanted air exchange. As you mentioned, both summer and winter, the garage is a more comfortable space now and I like that! You also mentioned that the door seals seem to take a memory over time. I've found that in N. MN. winter temps that that seal memory gets worse with the cold, just when I need them the most! Having the spring tension creating a good seal in a broad range of temps is a huge plus! I even talked my Son-in-Law into installing them on his new homes garage door and they've quieted their doors down substantially (kids bedrooms are directly above the garage doors) and no more RATTLE! Thanks for letting others no about these. I got mine thru my local Ace hdw., but they ordered them in from their warehouse for me.
Perfect. I have exact problem, surprised find a solution. Thank you and Thanks America for inventing solution for every problem. Will update you after trying it.
It would have been a good time to also replace the track rollers with the nylon version and nylon roller sleeve liners…makes the door so quiet when it goes up and down, eliminates all of the squeaking and creaking.
My mounting brackets are riveted to the tracks,no adjustment. It was easier to install the green hinges then drill out all the rivets. Green Hinges work great. John Leonardelli
I installed these on my door. Guess it added too much pressure or something, the opener wouldnt lift the door enough or close appropriately. Had to uninstall. Maybe i need to move the tracks back a bit? Not sure. Just going to use weather stripping and insulate the garage door. Hopefully that helps prevent heat/cold loss from my garage gym.
Yea, these cause the door to drag when opening and closing. Most garage door openers have and adjustment to handle it, though. Or maybe your spring is too weak.
I am going to install them on my door. But I have one comment to make about your video; it may have been because of the camera angle, but it didn't look like you had the hinge point, the center of the tube, in line with the seam where the sections meet like it should be for best operation.
I love those type of hinges they work really well but just to let you know never ever use white lithium grease on your garage door tracks rollers or anything because it hardens like cement I never use WD-40 it’s a degreaser you want to use a base silicone grease
Would it not also work to adjust the tracks closer to the door frame? They look to be at the inner limit of their adjustment range as shown at 1:33 in the video. That's how I set mine up when I installed my doors. I have the same weatherstrip on the outside, but pushed the track towards the door until the roller contacted the back of the track before tightening the bracket bolt. My doors do not have the give that yours do at the beginning of the video.
I have a situation where one of the tracks has a slight outward bow (towards the interior of the garage) at one of the track brackets. Loosening the bracket and pushing on the track towards the driveway doesn't work for me. Some type of device would be needed to push the the track into a straighter position. As an alternative, this Green Hinge may be the answer.
Looks like $80-90 for "one set of 6 hinges" ( 4 panel door)....and something like $115-$120 for "one set of 8 hinges" ( 5 panel door).....doesn't seem so bad for the thick steel used and good design it has.
just order full body hinges and adjust the vertical track so the door is flush to the opening and you can achieve the same results, also recommend replacing rollers if they are not the nylon capped bearing rollers.
at that rate why not seal the garage door vents that let in combustion air for water heater & gas furnace. Venting cold engine exhaust from the garage is not a bad idea.
regular full body hinges and not light duty like the ones you removed (which were clearly flexing as well) and a properly adjusted door to opening would have accomplished the same thing.

I installed them about 15 years ago on my California home garage door . I now live in Texas (Hooyah) and plan to insatll them on my garage door here.
That's a beautiful thing. Definitely going to try these hinges out. Good video.
Perfect. I have exact problem, surprised find a solution. Thank you and Thanks America for inventing solution for every problem. Will update you after trying it.
Nice idea and product. The problem when the door is raised/lowered loaded with friction by the air seal.

Nice video thanks
Seems like a really good idea and a money saver. Thank you Sir for your video.
These hinges are nice!
Thanks Much!
I just put some washers under the original brackets. Two washers for each screw, eight per bracket. Under two bucks, fixed!
Cool so you made the screw head shorter
@@drewrobinson36 Well, if you mean the threads going into the door are shorter, yes. Still long enough to grab and tighten down the bracket.
probably a good time to replace the rollers with 13 ball bearing nylon wheels, while you are doing the hinges...I did

I don't think they want to answer your question. I wonder why?
Fine point

did'nt work for me .I adjusted track inward to seal with no help .I plan on ordering these Green hinges and give it a try
I dunno if they are with 40 bucks a hinge nearly 400 bucks for a set of 8, looks great and exactly what i need but man that's steep

I bought new weatherstrips for the outside, weren’t as wide as the old stuff now theres a gap from the stripping to the siding looks like crap.

Did I miss "after" test from outside or it's not in the video?
Looks like a nice idea but what happens when the springs on the hinges themselves break? Then what???
You fix it.
why not adj tracks ?
Because if you adjust the tracks you will solve the problem for free.
Unless you are heating and cooling your garage, which most people aren't, how will these pay for themselves?
I too would like to look into a superior weatherstripping as mentioned in the vid.....right....if anyone has any leads...let's hear them.
don't use Flex-Seal ,bad idea
Cute. But Now the angle of the wheel rod has added tension, so it's not lining up straight n true! Angled heavily
Do I need them for the whole door or just the sides because I have 15. Otherwise if i only need it for the sides i only need 6
@@nogripes thankyou I will

mn these are cool but pricey. Does anyone else make a version thats cheaper?

China probably has a set going for 20 bucks or so .Do what you gotta do ,I prefer to buy American whenever I can
I bought instruction from Avasva and I build it very very cheap.
If the door and the stops are installed correctly then you don't need to spend money on this and the wind will not open a gap.
As the stops get old or it gets really cold outside they get less flexible, Unless you are going to re-adjust them over and over, they do leak.
