What you pulled out of the buttstock was webbing used with the pull-through which would have also been in that cavity. You would have also expected to see a small cylindrical oil container in there as well. The webbing would have been cut into smaller pieces and attached to one end of the pull through...the weighted end would be drop through the rear action first towards the end of the barrel and pulled through that way to avoid getting any gunk into the mechanism!...I'm British and first fired this rifle at the age of 13

Enfield No 4 and SMLE rifles require VERY careful assembly during the stocking up stage otherwise any decent level of accuracy can be easily lost. Having a clean looking firearm is nice, but if it's delivering good accuracy in it's present condition ... then don't remove the wood. I'd also suggest that you purchase a decent, plastic coated cleaning rod rather than using that 'chain' pull through. It was clear from the video that the cord / chain was bearing on the crown as you pulled the patch through and any damage to that area will kill your accuracy stone dead. Stop doing that and get yourself a decent, one-piece cleaning rod.

Nice video. I got one from them about the same time. Had the same style of rag in the stock as you, also had the plastic oiler. I had to replace the firing pin and spring in my bolt. The firing pin was broke and there was a metal tube on the firing pin due to the spring being to short. My barrel is toast, so I intend to re-barrel it and do a complete restoration of the rifle.

    I know this is old,
some of the Enfield buttstock screws have square off heads near the threads and if you take off the butt stock first before the forend stock
it can cause a crack near the Magwell part of the forend FYI.

You have to expect were and dings in the wood from a 70 year old service rifle. It’s not a closet deer rifle that only came out once a year for like 20 years or a cosmoline packed never issued.

I just picked up mine today from classic firearms and I’ve always wanted one and love it. Your metal and stuff definitely looks shinier than mine. I’m definitely happy with mine.I want more now lol.

@@knightclone243 that’s awesome!I’ve gotten different rifles and I can’t complain so far lol.something that is older I prefer to pick myself but not a lot of gun shoes around me in central Ohio and plus I’m constantly truck driving sigh

@@zacwhite1368 yeah thanks lol I actually plan to start my CDL soon. How odd, but I’ve looked up info for these enfields because I wanted to completely take it apart but I need a certain tool for the bolt carrier which I just ordered off eBay

That’s too funny well getting cdl I didn’t think was hard but the online testing at bmv isn’t bad they just try to trick you with wording in Ohio I thought and I figured out to remember numbers like when ya break down n triangle spacing all that bs lol And gosh I’ve not torn mine down yet.I’ll have to check into that though definitely!I’ve wanted one for 20 plus years just cause idk first detachable box fed bolt action rifle also and good luck on getting cdls it can be really rewarding and fun just minus some idiots on highways n crap weather lol lord I got stories lol

@@zacwhite1368 lol yea I feel you I’ve been doing a lot of research on trucking & man one I’ve been trying to get my hands on a enfield pst 4/5years now & soon as I do I can’t find any ammo that’s within reasonable price. Only place I’ve gotten lucky is gun broker but overly priced and corrosive ammo, which I’m not to happy about

You should get a 30 caliber pull through as 8mm is slightly larger (7.7 for .303 and 7.92 for 8mm Mauser) You'll slightly damage your rifling by using a larger diameter pull through than that of your barrel. Being an older gun that has seen use it should be okay though as the barrel would've worn from use thus increasing the diameter slightly over time as well.

The piece you pulled out looks like some scrap canvas/cloth that was used for dry patches

Probably flannelette, commonly known as 4x2 and used for cleaning/oiling.

In the butt there should be an oiler, pull, the metallic webbing and a leather washer that buts up against long screw that holds the butt to the action.

That trigger guard looks larger than usual, might be for use in the snow.

good information on the disassembly, but the title was 'cleaning', I wanted to see how you cleaned the woodwork, did you use 1000 grade wire wool first? did you use teak oil, linseed oil, furniture wax? did you put on something to kill the mould first? Metalwork, did you use 1000 grade wire wool, brake cleaner, metal polish, gun oil, any kind of solvent for old hardened grease? I was expecting to see the actual cleaning, but 17 minutes in - you finished the disassembly, then said I'm going to clean it now and see you guys afterwards. Next shot was you saying how pleased you were with the cleaning. oh well.

For all metal parts I used a bore solevent/gun oil and for the wood I used simple wood furniture cleaner.

Really greasy poor finish. Remove by soaking in acetone overnight. This will pull all the excessive oil and old finish off. just scrub with a plastic bristle brush so not to damage the wood. You can let dry and apply some sort of finishing oil to the stock let dry and rub with steel wool to smooth the wood and reapply. NOTE if there are any armorer repairs to the stock acetone will dissolve many of the glues used to make these repairs so be cautious. Sanding will almost always ruin an old stock like this one. Dont even try to remove dents and fix scratches it just ruins everything.

I understand your enthusiasm, but yes, there are exploded views online to help reassemble as well as knowing the proper name of each part in case you need a new one. I also prefer to keep hardware with its respective part.
