    3 years later, but mine was a No4 Mk1* from RTI, came with the same webbing in the stock, had to use a hook to get it out, and after pulling off the forestock because I read a bit before hand, I was trying to get the Stock off and when I tell you it was impossible, I had to take a 3/8ths inch 8" long screw driver, cut the handle off and use it like a socket to finally loosen the stock bolt and get the stock off. However the buttstock on mine was brass nice and shiny

    You have to expect were and dings in the wood from a 70 year old service rifle. It’s not a closet deer rifle that only came out once a year for like 20 years or a cosmoline packed never issued.

    Now that’s actually pretty dope, I collect mannlichers and that second rifle you got there is my favorite m95 variant. You got a true stutzen (at minimum the stock and band are from one anyways) that is only underslung so They don’t have wrist mounted slings and are a much nicer hold IMO. These guys were only produced before the war really as wartime production was mostly stutzen karabiners and karabiner stutzens (dual sling points). Your other rifle is an example of the former dual sling model. Does the stutzen match on the handguard and stock as well?

    Enfield No 4 and SMLE rifles require VERY careful assembly during the stocking up stage otherwise any decent level of accuracy can be easily lost. Having a clean looking firearm is nice, but if it's delivering good accuracy in it's present condition ... then don't remove the wood. I'd also suggest that you purchase a decent, plastic coated cleaning rod rather than using that 'chain' pull through. It was clear from the video that the cord / chain was bearing on the crown as you pulled the patch through and any damage to that area will kill your accuracy stone dead. Stop doing that and get yourself a decent, one-piece cleaning rod.

    good information on the disassembly, but the title was 'cleaning', I wanted to see how you cleaned the woodwork, did you use 1000 grade wire wool first? did you use teak oil, linseed oil, furniture wax? did you put on something to kill the mould first? Metalwork, did you use 1000 grade wire wool, brake cleaner, metal polish, gun oil, any kind of solvent for old hardened grease? I was expecting to see the actual cleaning, but 17 minutes in - you finished the disassembly, then said I'm going to clean it now and see you guys afterwards. Next shot was you saying how pleased you were with the cleaning. oh well.

    Really greasy poor finish. Remove by soaking in acetone overnight. This will pull all the excessive oil and old finish off. just scrub with a plastic bristle brush so not to damage the wood. You can let dry and apply some sort of finishing oil to the stock let dry and rub with steel wool to smooth the wood and reapply. NOTE if there are any armorer repairs to the stock acetone will dissolve many of the glues used to make these repairs so be cautious. Sanding will almost always ruin an old stock like this one. Dont even try to remove dents and fix scratches it just ruins everything.

  • @martymargmuscat8013
    @martymargmuscat8013 2 года назад

    You should get a 30 caliber pull through as 8mm is slightly larger (7.7 for .303 and 7.92 for 8mm Mauser) You'll slightly damage your rifling by using a larger diameter pull through than that of your barrel. Being an older gun that has seen use it should be okay though as the barrel would've worn from use thus increasing the diameter slightly over time as well.

    What you pulled out of the buttstock was webbing used with the pull-through which would have also been in that cavity. You would have also expected to see a small cylindrical oil container in there as well. The webbing would have been cut into smaller pieces and attached to one end of the pull through...the weighted end would be drop through the rear action first towards the end of the barrel and pulled through that way to avoid getting any gunk into the mechanism!...I'm British and first fired this rifle at the age of 13

What is seen today is what was overlooked as too embarrassing to sell back then; some may even be assembled from parts, but they all seem to work well enough. Don't expect factory new.
