- Finally decided ruin my life and tie the knot with Gemma. Why Gemma? because she's the only option.
To be able to marry Gemma, You must bring Cobblestone back to it's former glory by doing the four quest Gemma gives you. After that, you just have to beat one of Drusten's Trial and wish to be married to Gemma.
Then BOOM! Instantly Married!

I am annoyed that they didn't give us a cutscene with them getting married and like a little exclusive side quest where we go through the wedding. That would have been awesome!

This game sucks for the lack of hugs in important moments like MC coming back to Last Bastion in ACT2 and seeing Amber and Gemma, same goes for Jade not hugging MC in Octagonia(ACT1), or MC meeting again Amber and Gemma in ACT3 (in Heliodor) a lot of moments would have improved IF MC hugged or someone hugged MC
I always hated how you had to make a wish to actually marry her, when it seems like she would probably marry you anyway even without a wish.
She wants it more than MC himself XD Seriously, the whole village ship them together...and she is more than happy about it...it's like she didn't even need to "mark him as her boyfriend/husband" the village did that for her XDXD

From what information I gather only seeing a person once when she was 3 and the hero a baby isn’t enough to call them siblings. Did they even live together? There shouldn’t be any strong sibling bond but I did read jade wanted to be strong to protect the people she care for. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for a romance to grow and they are not related by blood so it’s ok on my book also Jade > Gemma.

Dragon Quest VIII had better marriage scenes in my opinion. They were post-game events, but still. I feel like they should have put a little more effort into the marriage with Gemma. Or at the very least had more than her as an option. Having a cutscene for the wedding would have been better than a picture on the wall. Also, you gotta wonder how little confidence the hero has if he has to ask a warrior from the past to magically wish him married. Just saying.
He can't even tell Serena that she'd look beautiful with short hair. He has to have an item that makes her hair shrink.

If you do the party talk before getting married and click on Jade you can tell she is super jealous that Gemma was the girl next door the MC grew up with. Funny but also sad because if the MC's kingdom hadn't fallen he and Jade probably would have grown up together and their families probably would have expected them to get married. Wish the choice was in the game as to which one to marry like they had done in DQ5.
Jason Warnecke I’m glad DQ8 allowed the MC to marry either Princess Medea or Jessica. I wish this was the case for either Gemma, Serena or Jade.
Nick Well that option came with the 3ds version of the game and DQXI gets a switch port with s new subtitle so there is still hope.

This whole option is a bit weird. Not like the MC should need supernatural powers to get married. The girls feelings are obvious.
Also a bit too bad you don’t have some options. Unlike DQ8 I didn’t feel the childhood friend was around enough. There I was fine with the default since there was a special connection. Gemma is just kind of gone for most of the game. I think Jade makes the most sense in this one. Good connection with Serena especially before post game. Heck the hero risked it all to go back and save Veronica.

exactly! medea was always there and even though she was a horse all the time (lmao) we had our moments with her, the times when we saw her while sleeping, the memories.... it was just wholesome in my opinion. This... just ain't it.
Its ok. Switch Version of DQXI will have the option for all 4 girls....munchkin included.

As much as I can understand that the players themselves have gotten attached to Jade and somewhat to Serena as well... a few weeks of adventuring vs 16 years of growing up together is kind of a significant difference. It actually makes sense that the hero has eyes only for Gemma. Offscreen pre-game developments still happened.
Well not now for Switch version at least thank god!
I always considered gemma a sister. He literally grew up with her in the same house as a family. That’s pretty weird tbh
Considering that the hero is a silent protagonist and an avatar for the player, the Gemma ending feels more forced from our perspective. If the hero had his own personality, voice, wants, needs, or opinions, then the argument that he only had eyes for Gemma would be nearly rock solid. But he's got just as much, if not more history with the women in his party. Jade was literally one of the first human beings he ever came into contact with and there are numerous instances where it's apparent that she's interested in him, and there co-op pep powers seem to show some connection deeper than simply friendship and not as siblings. And both Serena and Veronica are the reincarnation of his lover from their past life. Yeah, he was raised with Gemma, but that doesn't equal love. There's a few women I've known since childhood or for years that I've got no interest in beyond friendship and because I'm a guy, physical attraction. I'm not trying to convince anyone that Jade, Serena or Veronica are more valid than Gemma, I'm just saying that if the hero is a silent protagonist that is supposed to be your avatar, they should let you choose who the hero loves and all three of them are EQUALLY valid and should've been up for consideration.

Cool to have it but I prefer Jade or Serena ;( I liked Gemna at the start but she fall out of story so fast. Also gotta be jealous of Erdwin's girl.

Yeah. After Veronica's death, Serena seemed to open herself up to the hero. It would have made more sense to marry her.

Well, that’s the old version. In the switch version, you still don’t see the wedding, but you do the wedding again on the Tor with Gemma. You could also marry/live with anyone now with exclusive cutscenes.

Honestly i wish we had the option to keep adult veronica, I love the chemistry between the MC and Veronica, plus she does at onr point even state her feelings for him. Of course in her child body it cant happen but if we had the chance to give her her adult body back i think it would be a well worth while effort. And if not her then Erik by far is the second best option

I see talk here in the comments about how Jade is the added best option in XI S, and imo I honestly don't feel comfortable marrying Jade. By all means Jade is great and easily one of my favorites, but from a romantic aspect I can't help but feel weird about it given she at least mentioned considering the Luminary as her surrogate little brother. Plus she always looked up to the Luminary's mom as the mother she never had (I think im remembering that right anyways) so that just reaffirms the idea of them as surrogate siblings which kinda makes her as a marriage candidate kinda awkward.
You gotta remember, she mentioned the idea of the MC being her "little brother" once and that was when she was 3 years old or less, just after losing her mother to an illness and attaching herself to the closest older female in her life to fill that void. Jade and the MC do not share blood nor are they connected by law or marriage. Its just one comment made by a literal toddler who spent the next 16 years of her life thinking the boy died and it was her fault. There's no relation at all. Its like feeling guilt for liking someone now despite the time you were in pre-K and was "married" to a classmate.
If the circumstances weren't so utterly screwed up, the music box rendition of V's Bridal Waltz at 6:21 would probably have me in tears of nostalgia.

This whole game reminds of slightly similar to dragon ball... Chalky = Grandpa Gohan and hero is Goku (saiyan = Luminary)... Anyhow love Akira Toriyama for his wonderful artwork

LightFykki I was thinking a mix of Jiren because of the mask, Hirudegarn from the size, and Cell from the color scheme.
Plus half of the NPCs in the game have Gohan’s haircut.
I allways wondered if a crossover can and wod happen and if yes you need to nerf hard who ever came over in a game series of princ and princess vegeta woud make alot of sense

The sad thing is it doesn't seem like anyone else besides Gemma gets a Marriage picture in the House, I went with jade but in the picture she doesn't have a wedding dress I believe Gemma is the only one that has a wedding though, But also when I see the MC's Dad and mom also Chalky it makes me sad to look at the picture
what does jade mean about what happened in drustan?
I'm late but the Hero asks Drustan to brainwash Gemma into thinking he proposed already so when he got home they had a marriage.
@@Moody_bluess To think that the hero didn't need to wish. Even without Drustan. If he proposed to Gemma she definitely would've accepted it. There are so many lines she says where she gets a bit shy. She obviously loved the hero anyway
What’s thumbnail from?
The thumbnail is the old marriage ending, but that was changed in the Switch version. Marriage got completely altered in that version.
Wow. I haven't played the game but i like this kind of things (date/marriage) in a game so i had to come to watch what was all about. To be honest all this could have been done in a better way than it did, but it still nice, though it looks like the game only gives you one option which is a little sad and makes me wonder what kind of girl she is.
By the way i don't need to see a lot of the game to be sad about not being to marry Jade.
Yeah, I love things like this in games. On the bright side, if you're still interested in this game and have a Switch, then you might be interested to know that the Switch version will let you pick who you end up with at the end of the game.
Kind of feel that more should have been there, over doing a trial and getting marriage as a reward. When compared to DQ5 and 8, there was definitely a lot lacking for DQXI, as far as marriage is concerned.
Yeah, I understand only having the option to marry Gemma, but the lack of any actual scene of the marriage (except the missable photo) was really disappointing.
Story-wise I understand that, I just felt that compared to 5 and 8 Square definitely was lazy in providing any actual scenes involving the marriage.

Should have been jade, but I think her romance would have been too mature for what they wanted in the game, so they went with the storybook Gemma thing instead.

For me marrying post game Serena makes no sense at all before Veronicas story bs she, already was boring as a caracter (Serena not Veronica) only after the event she gets interesting to me

She 100% did not get raped, Booga thought holding hands after 10 years was a crazy concept so sex definitely didn't happen. Besides...it's the new universe's Jade anyway so technically she's never even met Booga.

@@buddhh467 That's how YOU feel. The hero is a silent protagonist, meaning his personality is entirely defined by the person playing the game. I did get older sister vibes from Jade early on (mostly due to me actually thinking she WAS his older sister thanks to that opening cut scene) but events from later on convinced me that her feelings for him were not the kind you have for a sibling. I'm just glad that the Switch port of DQ XI will apparently let you choose who you end up with at the end of the game, and am hoping they add that ending to my PS4 version via update.
