This is such a great way to approach classics! Jane Austen is definitely an excellent place to start- one of the first classics I read was Emma and I fell in love with it 🥰
Me too! Remains my favourite through the years!
I went into Jane Austen not realising she writes romance. I’m not a romance person 🙈 but, I can appreciate her writing. My fave classics so far is Frankenstein, 1984, the Chrysalids. Also love sci fi classics like 2001 A space odyssey and Dune.
Yess love Dune for a sci fi classic!💚
Wuthering Heights is one of my favourite 3 novels. It is so layered with so much pain ... there is love but no sustaining base ... more pain. It would be my desert island book ...
Excellent recommendations and a good plan for the novice. I remember when I was a teacher of adults coming to literature for the first time and it was mainly the long sentences and long paragraphs that put them off. So we read them out loud and it really helped them get into them. Nowadays the answer might be an audiobook? But I still love reading aloud, there’s something so magical about hearing them. Also many of the classics were written to be read aloud, as I’m sure you know 😊
That’s such a good point! I love that advice!💚
Loooooove Jane Austen, I had a little hard time with Emma, but read it after a while again and loved it. So if maybe you like the idea but don`t get into it ri ght away, maybe it wasn`t your time to read it yet so try another one or try the same book a little later again☺
Need to get into Agatha Christie, love me some crime and mystery, but don`t read it much.
Virginia Woolfs Mrs Dalloway has been on my mind recently, I read it a couple years back, but spotted a beautiful copy in the book store so maybe its finally time it moves in with me.😂🤩
My absolute favourite is The secret garden, so many don`t know, it is book, mostly people only know the cartoons and films.
Totally different "genre" in childrens classics, but I also loved Robin Hood by Rosemary Sutcliff a lot, as well as Krabat and the Sorcerer's Mill by Otfried Preußler🥰
These are such fantastic tips and recommendation, your videos are so thought through ❤
I'm so glad you think so!!
I really enjoyed this video and love the approach to classics that doesn’t make them too daunting! Thank you for a great video and some great recommendations!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much!
I highly recommend Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelly.
Me too, love that book!
For anyone that's read or wants to read Jane Austen: read Downtown Abbey! It's so fun, a pretty simple read, especially if you're not a native English speaker (like myself), it's my favourite of hers so far.
Also, your makeup looks stunning as always😭👌
Thank you so much!!🥰💚
For the ones who love romance, I think Edith Warton and Henry James are good choices as well ! :)
Ooh yes I love Edith Warton!

Hey I'm new to reading is their is a difference between classic & classic literature
No difference, I say classics as short for classic literature!
anyone who loves 1984: please check out we by evgeny zamyatin! orwell even admitted that reading we impacted how he was writing 1984 a lot. we was written in 1920 and wasnt published in ussr until 1988 because the state deemed it 'ideologically hostile and slanderous' that lets you know how accurate zamyatin's portrayal of totalitarism was (in 1920 ussr wasnt fully totalitarian yet, but zamyatin could clearly see where things were going).
this novel takes place in the future and takes the form of a diary of an engineer who is working on a spaceship 'integral' with a goal to spread their perfect life under their perfect state to other 'savage' people, who arent totally controlled by their government and must therefore be miserable. honestly i wont elaborate on the plot much, it is so good to go in blind. the only thing i will say is i love how zamyatin takes state surveillance to the max (their houses are __literally__ made of glass. all your neighbors see __everything__ you are doing) and how poetic and creative the main character is with his descriptions. he'll be like 'i am a mathematician. my mind cannot comprehend flowery language of poets' and then describe his confusion with the most beautiful metaphor utilising the concept of imaginary numbers. love this guy
also the female character he is infatuated with is treated so respectively both by the narrative and by the main character. 1984 could never
sorry for the long ass comment lol i can never keep it brief when i talk about we
This sounds incredible, I really want to read it now! Thank you!
