    In the hour and 17 minutes +, I realized 2 things: 1) she is calm and knows what she's doing, and although a time consuming job, it is a do-able, and 2) if my covers start to leak, I'm putting in a hemi, it's easier.

    Awesome video! If your Jeep has 100K or more miles, my recommendation is to replace the intake manifold gaskets, spark plugs, injectors, and any ticking valve components. It's a royal pain to tear into this engine. It's easier to drop the transmission and replace the clutch than do this job. However, once you do it, the next 3 or 4 times is so much easier and quicker. Learn to work on your Jeep or it will nickel and dime you to death. My 2012 has just over 225K and it's still going strong. Just watch out for those trees that jump out in front of you :)

    This video was a huge help for removing the valve cover to get to rocker arms that have failed. Really great detail in disassembling everything to get the the valve cover. Taking the inner fender off was well worth the extra 10 mins of work. There is no way to do it without access through the wheel well. Anyone doing this will end up hating the wiring harness, transmission dipstick, and various other things you will have to fight with every step of the way. When she says “you name it, it’s in the way,” she wasn’t lying. Good luck to anyone going in this deep in their engine. Thanks again for the great video.

    i’m in the middle of this job and that bit about the pcv sensor i think just saved me. i’ve got everything out but the cover won’t come off. i bet that’s why. thanks! i took the battery tray out. hoping i won’t need to take the fender liner too.

    Doing this job now. I just removed the battery box instead of the fender walls for all the room I needed. I dont have the means to jack up my jeep right now. That PCV is a nightmare lol. I bought a tiny ratcheting wrench with a T-25 bit on it...still not much fun getting that sucker out. The main reason I am here you finally inadvertently showed while removing the valve cover 30:46...those studs. They have an X shaped bracket on the top...right about where the RTV will go...I had no idea if there were alignment studs or something I had to remove. Phew...always pays to stop what you are doing, grab a Coke, and find out before proceeding. Thank you!

    • @OffTheBeatenPath_
      @OffTheBeatenPath_ 4 года назад

      Steve King I agree I would take out the battery tray. The TIPM module does not need to be unplugged. You can just hang it on top of the fender out of the way. Really a pain either way. Checked my cam followers at 212,000 km (131,000 miles) and they are fine -- very tiny amount of play. So I am just leaving them be and hoping I get another 4 years out of the motor.

    Fantastic video! I can tell a lot of effort went into lighting and editing. Thank you! I've only gone so far as to do the plugs and I'll say there was a lot more blood and cussing! The Jeep is currently is at the dealer getting a new valve cover gasket because it's covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty. Thank God I had the foresight to shell out the cash for that warranty! But I have a feeling I'm gonna be in there some day to tackle the ticking. Thanks again for such an awesome video!

  • @jbuelman2025

    I did this same job because of the rocker follower problems these Pentastars tend to have. I replaced every rocker follower and to be honest, the valve cover was the most difficult part of it. I fixed the ticking problem, but have a little oil seepage now because I probably damaged the new gasket trying to get the dadgum valve cover to seat properly. I'm debating paying a mechanic to redo the valve cover. This has to be at least a $200 job just for the passenger valve cover. The driver's side is much easier only requiring removing the intake plenum to get to it.

    Very helpful video for installing valve cover gaskets on 2014 Ram 1500 3.6l. When changing the gasket for the cam sensors on the end of the valve covers, double-checking to make sure gaskets are seated properly, and torquing to spec, the sensors are not completely flush to the valve cover, leaving a very small opening where blue gasket can be seen. Using Fel Pro VS 50805 gasket set. Should sensors be flush and no part of gasket visible?

    No need get take the fender off to get that last 8mm on the valve cover. I used an 8mm swivel with 1/4in drive a long extension and slid it down in the back between the battery and battery box. Theres a small opening between the box and the firewall where you can get just the right angle to get it off. Way easier than removing all that plastic for one bolt.

    Thanks so much for doing this video. In Australia we have very poor support for Jeep as most mechanics avoid servicing them here, stating they are too hard to fix. I had to attempt to remove the LH rocker cover as we are getting a cam sensor error intermittently after the local Jeep dealer had replaced some rocker arms on that side. They had three attempts and have no idea how to fix it. Got a far as the pcv breather and couldn’t figure out how to remove it. Now I know how to do it! Do you tighten the hydraulic valley bolts whilst you are there?

  • @TwayPhoto
    @TwayPhoto 4 года назад

    Once you've removed the fender bolts and round trim buttons at ground level with the wheel off, the whole fender can be lifted off the flat trim tabs and then they can be removed with pliers much more easily and put back on the fender. They're in a slot just for this and much less chance of breaking them. Can do it this way in 3 minutes once the tire is off.

    Maybe I missed something but seems only one side was done, the easy side ?

    Don’t ask me how, but in my fit of stubbornness, I did it without removing the fender or battery box. If you gonna do this PLEASE TAKE ONE OF THEM OUT. You’ll thank me later.

    You should put a new PCV on while you are there.

    I was going to do that to mine but after watching this I'll let it seep. Thats way too much trouble to mess with.

    When you're watching a valve cover gasket video, and you learn that you don't have to sacrifice your fender clips to the jeep gods when you remove your fender.

    the valve cover bolts aren't meant to stay in place. pull them all the way out

    This is so much easier if you remove the battery and battery tray..
