I worked for them when it was still a steak house as a cook. I will say this, when I worked for them, it was quality. Now, its not the same but its not bad either. A ton of options for people that we never offered back then. Glad to see they are still going strong.
I remember several steak buffets, now all gone....since I am trying to be low carb, most of the food I won't eat....pot roast is good, salad bar good.....
My family loves Golden Corral. Especially when we have the grandkids. They are picky eaters but there is always something for them to eat. The prices are decent too.
As long as you keep the kids' fingers out of the food and actually supervise them. Which seems to never happen. Kids and lazy parents are why I stopped eating there.

It depends on which one you go to. I've been to some whose food wasn't so great and some that food was really delicious. It depends. I like Golden Corral.
I live in Atlanta and I go twice a week (Wed & Sun). On both days it only costs me $11 + $3 for tip. I go just before dinner starts on Wed (3:30) & for brunch on Sun (10:30). I’m on OMAD so this works perfectly for me. It’s all about making healthy choices.
My trick, Saturday or Sunday morning, about 10:00 AM. Get a few breakfast things, and wait for the lunch/dinner stuff to arrive. Breakfast is cheaper, and comes with a beverage. (And, once you have that beverage, they will keep refilling it.) steve
LOL, we don't even get a few breakfast things. Lunch starts at 11:00 AM, so we arrive at 10:50, pay for breakfast and eat lunch when they pull the breakfast items and replace them with lunch items. I'll also use my water glass to fill it with orange juice, because the juice glasses are small, before they shut the machine off.
Since I am immuno-compromised, I haven't been to Golden Corral since the outbreak of Covid, but in my 73 years I have eaten at probably 40 different buffet style restaurants in the US, Canada, and even Europe- some fancy' some family style, some needing a visit by the Health Department, I feel that Golden Corral is one of the best family affordable buffets that i have had the pleasure to enjoy. The food is nicely prepared and featured for the customer and the help is always quick to serve you. The food containers are usually filled on a timely basis and the food is always the right temperature, whetherr hot or cold. You can't beat it for the variety of food and the price. Hoping to get back there soon.

That's amazing those young people at Golden Corral work so hard and you leave a generous tip I am a chambermaid and work really really hard clean toilets nasty stuff after nasty people and 90% of them don't leave a tip and the other 10% we get between $5-$20 How is that fair ????

I can tell you don't live in SC. My local GC is nasty as hell. They never clean the buffet tables off and some of the staff (even the 'so called' chefs) have a nasty attitude to certain people. I have not gone to one in over 10 years...and from what I have read, they are exactly the same. It's a shame too because before I stopped going, it was a really great place to go for a wide variety of food.

Golden Corral is fantastic…the food is fresh,, the chef’s cooking skills are amazing,, the staff is super friendly I gave an awesome tip because they made sure our table stayed clean of used dishes and kept our drinks refilled!! No one at a Golden Corral has amazing cooking skills. When I ask for a medium rare steak they slice a portion off and show it to me, and I'm supposed to decide whether I'll accept it or not. The implication being that they have no idea what a medium rare steak looks like so the customer must decide. I've also seen children place a marshmallow on a stick, poke it into the chocolate fountain, lick the chocolate off the mallow and poke it back into the fountain. I wanted to gag. Thankfully that fountain has been shut down for quite some time. The food doesn't suck, it's basic American fare, fried chicken, fried/baked fish, steaks, meatloaf etc. Not high quality but not garbage either.
Love there food to what i love you can watch them cook your steak true they look out for there customers the one we go to if you want to go for seconds or thirds what ever they give you clean plates and silver ware
Golden Corral is okay I got the same thing over and over never change and nothing people that sir kids with their hands handle the buffet I have seen in some instances in West Monroe but they didn't allow that when they say the food is good they're just hungry I got a banana pie pudding whatever and I don't know what it was but all-in-all I guess they okay
I remember when Golden Corral wasn't a Buffet Restaurant. After Church some Sundays, my family and usually another family or two would all go to Golden Corral . You would order what you wanted to eat and it was served to you, but, they had a nice salad bar! So we all hit up the salad bar before our orders meals came out.
My family has been going to Golden Corral since I was pregnant withy son in 1980... Things were really tough for my husband and I financially then and my dear sister would take me 2 to 3 time a week to the AYCE lunch buffet on her lunch hour ,which was then only $1.99! We have one here in the town I now live in and we went a couple of months ago after it opened back up when things eased from the pandemic a bit. I adore the great pot roast with vegetables and I always get a small sampling of all my favorite things, since there's so much variety!
The main problem us decent customers have is - these parents let their wild little kids with dirty hands come up to the buffet alone and touch everything w/out cleaning up mess or knowing what their doing !!!

What's sad is the amount of food that is thrown away 🥴 people came in and their eyes were bigger than their stomachs & they would load those plates up so high most of the food would be wasted. I use to work in the dessert bar area and boy I had a job on my hands. Cleaning that chocolate fountain was hell. Sure as hell made me not wanna eat off it again. 😳 I made that delicious bread and cookies and pies. I enjoyed seeing people happy and kids happy. I was also a cook for a bit and I learned alot. You're gonna work in that place and I mean hard. Blood sweat n tears. Lol. 🙏 The food is delicious 🌹

The way they request it them fools will request a shit load of it like this one fool he ordered enough for like five to eight people. You wouldn't believe this he didn't eat any of after, that the prison board had cut off that kind of request but they still can eat what they want the, only thing is they won't let them accumulate like, eat the whole kitchen if you know what mean. Now that's in the state of Texas.
The reason there is so much waste is because 75% of the food is just not up to par. Most items look good when putting it on the plate, but when eaten it's cold or just YUK. Now when people find somethings good the rest becomes dumpster fillers. In Fort Worth my last visit ended with me asking for a refund. Most of the time I like my experience there and sometimes I ask myself why did I choose this place. I will go back in hopes that a better outcome will happen
Golden Corral has better food than most restaurants that cost much more. Some people just have a thing a out buffets and will trash them no matter how good the food is. I doubt most of the negative e commenter's have even actually eaten there.
I love my Golden Corral restaurant in Taylor, Michigan,it used to be a Old Country Buffet, the staff is very nice,I make a habit of at least once a month to eat. 3 of the best foods there are the Meat Loaf, the Spanish rice and the fried chicken. A nice dish of vanilla ice cream or a slice of carrot cake signifies the end of my meal. I try to get there by 3:30(it becomes dinner price then), but even at $13.99, it's a good deal!
If you have a Sam's Club membership, you can buy a 2 card pack, worth $25 each, for $37.50, saving $12.50 on the overall cost! I have been to 5 different Golden Corrals in So-Cal, the cards have been accepted at each one! My favorites are Bellflower and Downey. Also, there is an early bird dinner special between 2 and 4 for seniors that includes a drink!
I do dislike watching people fill a plate with plenty of food then not eat it I think of the people who don't have and that are actually deprived of food. I normally get a little bit of different things if I try something I've never ate before I just get a bite I know if I like it I can go back..

My wife and I do not go there regularly, the food is so good. Soul cooking Southern spoon here in Alabama. I usually have seconds, but not a large one. My favorite place to eat. Golden Corral also recognizes Veterans day free meals. That is very generous and thoughtful.
Went to one in our area on Thanksgiving and it was awesome! Everything was so good. We have gone back for breakfast and supper. The help was so friendly and offered to go get something so we did not have to get in line again since I was using a walker. I left our server a nice tip.
My family & I have gone there for Thanksgiving 3 or 4 years....loved it! The only drawback was that we had no leftovers the next day! Thoroughly enjoyable! And their breakfast buffet is amazing!
Interesting video. Our Golden Corral, here in Sierra Vista, Arizona, shut down when the Covid pandemic hit, and it hasn't reopened yet. My wife and I used to eat there from time to time, and generally enjoyed it.

Never saw a GC that had " Brunch", normally lunch and dinner, Breakfast is usually Sat. & Sun. only and ends at 11. Bonus is, if you get in just before 11, you can start right in on lunch ( or dinner if it's Sunday ), and save a few bucks.
Golden Corral has some really good food. I think it is one of the best values there is getting some good food at affordable prices. I love going there.

The Golden Corral had to close in Fargo, North Dakota because of a bug problem they couldn’t win. I love GC. The food is awesome. And on Veterans Day they have a big event for that too. I loved going to GC on those days.
I live in Fayetteville, NC (while not my birth town I've lived here since I was 7, and I'm 41 now) and enjoy Golden Corral as an occasional treat, but until recently I never realized it started here.
My late great grandmother(RIP) lived in Fayetteville, all the way till she died in the 1990s. Agreed that I'm very surprised to learn Golden Corral started there, myself!
Please people dont fill 4 plates and leave a full plate to toss out, you can go back as many times as you want but dont waste food and please watch your kids they are the biggest food wasters , just take a look at what you are doing😊
My family ate here every time we went to Shawnee, OK before the pandemic. It was our favorite buffet restaurant. Unfortunately, that location did not survive the pandemic.
I love going to the Golden Corral. Although one time I had gone we complained to management about a man’s daughter who was coughing all over the food. And touching various food items. Management politely asked the man to leave after witnessing what our complaints were. My only issue is with the kids wondering around and touching food items.
Don't go? Or, if you're serious and do go, fill up your plate once, carefully picking things you really want, and don't go back. Then make one trip to the dessert bar and make sure to look carefully and pick just one thing. The key is to pick items that are really what you want so you can finish those items and you're satisfied with them. Also, drink a full glass of water prior to eating then eat slowly. Then sit for a few minutes after eating so the food has time to reach your stomach. I know we all feel like it's a buffet and we should go back and eat as much as possible. But our eyes aren't as big as our stomachs so we should be picky about what we're putting on our plates and choose wisely then take our time eating it. Rules to follow: A glass of water Choose wisely Eat slow One dessert Don't go back for refill Maybe take someone to talk to and talk more than eating Hope this helps. 😉

It's really better to eat slowly so food can digest better. I always get a dessert, usually on my first pass through. I have a couple of bites of it before eating my meal. The G C in Manassas is a circus atmosphere....you'll see large Latino families eating there on the weekends...they use plastic utensils instead of metal...for a better experience, try Great American Buffet down Sudley Road .
Our GC in Evansville IN is very nice. My family which is large, meet there for breakfast occasionally. Sure it's still serve yourself on lot of foods which is fine. The store is clean, the employees are polite and so we are there for mostly breakfast, I am good with the fare. There are stations for to order stuff if you want it. Be realistic of expectations and our place is great.
I met my first boyfriend on a multi school field trip when we were 13. Along with lots of other things from that day, I also account going to Golden Corral for dinner as part of it. We (along with several of out friends) all sat together at a big table and I got dessert first. I dipped my cotton candy in the chocolate fountain and everybody thought it was genius. They all proceeded to go try it. I finished mine before our teachers noticed and everyone else got in trouble.
My family and I did the buffet at Golden Corral several years ago. Paid by debit card, then by the end of the day or the next day, there were two or three unauthorized charges. I have never gone back.
I work at a pizza buffet in California and when a kid touches a pizza we have to throw it out. Sad part is the parents are next to them and seem to not care.

The Golden Corral in Middletown NY is only open 11am to 8pm and is closed on Mondays. On my recent visit a month ago, the steaks were horrible. Thin, gristly and tough. Ordered medium because they undercook. Overdone on the outside, raw in the middle. The Cook kept pressing the meat and spraying it with what I assume is vegetable oil. The meat comes right out of a cooler. Maybe if they kept some meat on the grill they wouldn't have to rush the cooking. And there were no mushrooms anymore.
We were eating at G C one day. Got to watching a lady at the table next to us.She kept going up and coming back with a plate full of fried chicken. Watching her we noticed she had a very large purse with a plastic bag inside. She would put the chicken in the purse, wait a while and come back with another plate full. Takes a lot of grit to do something like that.
I remember working in the bakery and the older bakers hated the fountain because every time some kid sticks their hands in there costs 75 dollars for the chocolate every time they have to replace it the my other fellow bakers didn't even allow their own kids and grandkids to touch it and the cleaning the machine alone was a different task alone

I work at a Golden Corral now and I’ve found out that most GCs are doing away with the fountains. We haven’t had ours in two years. We have a rule where if a child is under 12 years of age an adult must accompany them. But people rarely listen
Forget about kids sticking their hands in there, I've seen them lick the chocolate off a marshmallow and put the marshmallow back into the fountain. It was gross. So if you dipped a strawberry into the fountain you were getting chocolate syrup plus a load of saliva from God knows how many kids. I hope they retire that thing.
Good restaurant and good food. When we lived in Austin TX our office staff would eat lunch there on many occasions. One Sunday my wife and I had breakfast there and when the breakfast service was over they made and announcement that diners could remain and continue eating. Nice.
NC native here. I have eaten at Golden Corral all of my life. They are great! You are absolutely right about the rolls. They are to die for. They are a must. We usually get a plate full to share at our table. Also, I am quite sure the chocolate fountain was there prior to 2011. I remember the fountain there when I was a kid. That was many many moons ago. 😂
I ate at Golden corral and never got sick like ppl said I had no problem eating ther and I met some cool ppl working ther or eating ther I loved the place it depends on who's working ther never had a problem but I wdnt eat ther in winter cause colds and flus can spread
It's hit or miss by location, and it's hit or miss by entree or salad bar. Overall, though, it's pretty decent value all things considered. This is especially true given the high cost of almost all commercially prepared food these days.
I'm a small guy and just can't eat a large portion unless it Thanksgiving. Then I just hurt so good for a few hours. That's my favorite types of food whether it's dinner or supper. Have to have candied yams and cranberry too. If I do go there it's just one plate and maybe a desert. .
Well looks like the only competition for Golden Corral is Western Sizzlin do to the fact that the other Buffet restaurants went out of business (furr's, Ryan's, hometown and old county buffet)
Minor correction: Sweet Tomatoes was a part of Souplantation- essentially, all stores outside SoCal. The Golden Corral in El Cajon was the HomeTown Buffet. The food was meh then, it's meh now. But at $15.00 on the weekends, makes for a nice club meeting place.
HomeTown Buffet is a different all you can eat chain: VitaNova Brands Old Country Buffet, HomeTown Buffet, Ryan's Buffet, and Curry House are/was their brands. Golden Corral is a different chain.
Great food. I was told to arrive around 3:30 and eat light because the dinner menu starts at 4 and it has steak. Personally, this sounds like cheating but one couple I know does this all the time. I don't use the chocolate fountain because the kids aren't always mindful of what's acceptable. The kids should be accompanied by a responsible adult. I love fried okra, a Southern dish. Plus give me fried shrimp and a loaded baked potato. I like cookies for desert with ice cream.
If you make sure to go to the breakfast buffet about 30 minutes before they switch to lunch you will still be allowed to eat there when there's nothing but lunch items on the buffet and breakfast is usually cheaper than lunch anyways why not get breakfast and lunch items for the price of only breakfast

I have been to many buffet's over the years, some of the best being in Las Vegas and on cruise ships. I try and keep a open mind when I go to one. Its mass produced food so I don't expect a 5 star meal. It fills you up and if you have a crowd of people to feed its somewhat economical . They are what they are.
The best Buffet I've been to is the Bacchanal buffet at Caesar's Place. It is pricey, though in all honesty, I didn't pay both times I went, one time was on the house and the other time I used points. The first time I had about five dollars worth of homemade tacos that were to die for, some cheese and fruit for dessert and a glass of wine and called it a day. I didn't come close to a good deal, but it was awesome. The second time I went, I had a mix of fresh seafood including a raw oyster shooter, A prime rib eggs benedict, some fried chicken, a salad, cake and ice cream for dessert. Again, it was awesome.
Yeah, and many of their restaurants closed permanently after the pandemic. Why? I know of five in one area that closed but, the city across the river re-opened all of theirs. Again, why?

Golden Corral has their Early Bird special for seniors. Makes it pretty affordable for of us retired folks. Love their fried chicken and pot roast.

@@jasonallen3678 I rarely eat breakfast. My breakfast consist of coffee and cigarettes. As far as the Golden Corral, I prefer their breakfast buffet than their lunch/dinner buffet. To me it taste better, but that's just me.

I can tell you don't live in SC. My local GC is nasty as hell. They never clean the buffet tables off and some of the staff (even the 'so called' chefs) have a nasty attitude to certain people. I have not gone to one in over 10 years...and from what I have read, they are exactly the same. It's a shame too because before I stopped going, it was a really great place to go for a wide variety of food.

@@Leorickinnyc I used to go to the Golden Corral in Dallas near Redbird mall. They usually have mediocre tasting food. I know that it varies but I tried to go to a Golden Corral a month ago the woman was so rude I just left and they wanted almost 20 bucks for a buffet.

No one at a Golden Corral has amazing cooking skills. When I ask for a medium rare steak they slice a portion off and show it to me, and I'm supposed to decide whether I'll accept it or not. The implication being that they have no idea what a medium rare steak looks like so the customer must decide. I've also seen children place a marshmallow on a stick, poke it into the chocolate fountain, lick the chocolate off the mallow and poke it back into the fountain. I wanted to gag. Thankfully that fountain has been shut down for quite some time. The food doesn't suck, it's basic American fare, fried chicken, fried/baked fish, steaks, meatloaf etc. Not high quality but not garbage either.
Love there food to what i love you can watch them cook your steak true they look out for there customers the one we go to if you want to go for seconds or thirds what ever they give you clean plates and silver ware

Golden Corral is okay I got the same thing over and over never change and nothing people that sir kids with their hands handle the buffet I have seen in some instances in West Monroe but they didn't allow that when they say the food is good they're just hungry I got a banana pie pudding whatever and I don't know what it was but all-in-all I guess they okay
I remember when Golden Corral wasn't a Buffet Restaurant.
After Church some Sundays, my family and usually another family or two would all go to Golden Corral . You would order what you wanted to eat and it was served to you, but, they had a nice salad bar! So we all hit up the salad bar before our orders meals came out.
Same here after church. No complaints at all.
My family has been going to Golden Corral since I was pregnant withy son in 1980... Things were really tough for my husband and I financially then and my dear sister would take me 2 to 3 time a week to the AYCE lunch buffet on her lunch hour ,which was then only $1.99! We have one here in the town I now live in and we went a couple of months ago after it opened back up when things eased from the pandemic a bit. I adore the great pot roast with vegetables and I always get a small sampling of all my favorite things, since there's so much variety!

I use to work at Golden corral. What's sad is the amount of food that is thrown away 🥴 people came in and their eyes were bigger than their stomachs & they would load those plates up so high most of the food would be wasted. I use to work in the dessert bar area and boy I had a job on my hands. Cleaning that chocolate fountain was hell. Sure as hell made me not wanna eat off it again. 😳 I made that delicious bread and cookies and pies. I enjoyed seeing people happy and kids happy. I was also a cook for a bit and I learned alot. You're gonna work in that place and I mean hard. Blood sweat n tears. Lol. 🙏 The food is delicious 🌹
You were saying that people will load up their plates and waste a lot of food that, reminds me that one time those death row inmates will make a request for food a few hours or so before getting executed. The way they request it them fools will request a shit load of it like this one fool he ordered enough for like five to eight people. You wouldn't believe this he didn't eat any of after, that the prison board had cut off that kind of request but they still can eat what they want the, only thing is they won't let them accumulate like, eat the whole kitchen if you know what mean. Now that's in the state of Texas.

The reason there is so much waste is because 75% of the food is just not up to par. Most items look good when putting it on the plate, but when eaten it's cold or just YUK. Now when people find somethings good the rest becomes dumpster fillers.
In Fort Worth my last visit ended with me asking for a refund. Most of the time I like my experience there and sometimes I ask myself why did I choose this place. I will go back in hopes that a better outcome will happen

I love my Golden Corral restaurant in Taylor, Michigan,it used to be a Old Country Buffet, the staff is very nice,I make a habit of at least once a month to eat. 3 of the best foods there are the Meat Loaf, the Spanish rice and the fried chicken. A nice dish of vanilla ice cream or a slice of carrot cake signifies the end of my meal. I try to get there by 3:30(it becomes dinner price then), but even at $13.99, it's a good deal!

I have been to 5 different Golden Corrals in So-Cal, the cards have been accepted at each one! My favorites are Bellflower and Downey. I do dislike watching people fill a plate with plenty of food then not eat it I think of the people who don't have and that are actually deprived of food. I normally get a little bit of different things if I try something I've never ate before I just get a bite I know if I like it I can go back..

My wife and I do not go there regularly, the food is so good. Soul cooking Southern spoon here in Alabama. I usually have seconds, but not a large one. My favorite place to eat. Golden Corral also recognizes Veterans day free meals. That is very generous and thoughtful.

Went to one in our area on Thanksgiving and it was awesome! Everything was so good. We have gone back for breakfast and supper. The help was so friendly and offered to go get something so we did not have to get in line again since I was using a walker. I left our server a nice tip.

My family & I have gone there for Thanksgiving 3 or 4 years....loved it! The only drawback was that we had no leftovers the next day!

Interesting video. Our Golden Corral, here in Sierra Vista, Arizona, shut down when the Covid pandemic hit, and it hasn't reopened yet. My wife and I used to eat there from time to time, and generally enjoyed it.

Never saw a GC that had " Brunch", normally lunch and dinner, Breakfast is usually Sat. & Sun. only and ends at 11. Bonus is, if you get in just before 11, you can start right in on lunch ( or dinner if it's Sunday ), and save a few bucks.
Many years ago a "Supervisor" at Golden Corral promised Spokane Valley, in Spokane, Washington, would "soon" have one here. We are still waiting.

The Golden Corral had to close in Fargo, North Dakota because of a bug problem they couldn’t win. I love GC. The food is awesome. And on Veterans Day they have a big event for that too. I loved going to GC on those days.

I live in Fayetteville, NC (while not my birth town I've lived here since I was 7, and I'm 41 now) and enjoy Golden Corral as an occasional treat, but until recently I never realized it started here.

My family ate here every time we went to Shawnee, OK before the pandemic. It was our favorite buffet restaurant. Unfortunately, that location did not survive the pandemic.

I love going to the Golden Corral. Although one time I had gone we complained to management about a man’s daughter who was coughing all over the food. And touching various food items. Management politely asked the man to leave after witnessing what our complaints were. My only issue is with the kids wondering around and touching food items.
maybe it's better for them to take out from other stores instead of dining in😁😊
The solution is to go to dinner at 4:00 pm with all the senior citizens.
Golden Corral is my favorite buffet!
I love it, (Manassas VA). Only downfall is I eat more than I plan too, lol! Any suggestions to to self control in a buffet setting?
Don't go? Or, if you're serious and do go, fill up your plate once, carefully picking things you really want, and don't go back. Then make one trip to the dessert bar and make sure to look carefully and pick just one thing.
The key is to pick items that are really what you want so you can finish those items and you're satisfied with them.
Also, drink a full glass of water prior to eating then eat slowly. Then sit for a few minutes after eating so the food has time to reach your stomach.
I know we all feel like it's a buffet and we should go back and eat as much as possible. But our eyes aren't as big as our stomachs so we should be picky about what we're putting on our plates and choose wisely then take our time eating it.
Rules to follow:
A glass of water
Choose wisely
Eat slow
One dessert
Don't go back for refill
Maybe take someone to talk to and talk more than eating

I always get a dessert, usually on my first pass through. I have a couple of bites of it before eating my meal. That way if I get too full from the meal, I can at least taste it. 😋
The G C in Manassas is a circus atmosphere....you'll see large Latino families eating there on the weekends...they use plastic utensils instead of metal...for a better experience, try Great American Buffet down Sudley Road .
Our GC in Evansville IN is very nice. My family which is large, meet there for breakfast occasionally. Sure it's still serve yourself on lot of foods which is fine. The store is clean, the employees are polite and so we are there for mostly breakfast, I am good with the fare. There are stations for to order stuff if you want it. Be realistic of expectations and our place is great.
I met my first boyfriend on a multi school field trip when we were 13. Along with lots of other things from that day, I also account going to Golden Corral for dinner as part of it. We (along with several of out friends) all sat together at a big table and I got dessert first. I dipped my cotton candy in the chocolate fountain and everybody thought it was genius. They all proceeded to go try it. I finished mine before our teachers noticed and everyone else got in trouble.

My family and I did the buffet at Golden Corral several years ago. Paid by debit card, then by the end of the day or the next day, there were two or three unauthorized charges. I have never gone back.
I work at a pizza buffet in California and when a kid touches a pizza we have to throw it out. Sad part is the parents are next to them and seem to not care.

The Golden Corral in Middletown NY is only open 11am to 8pm and is closed on Mondays. On my recent visit a month ago, the steaks were horrible. Thin, gristly and tough. Ordered medium because they undercook. Overdone on the outside, raw in the middle. The Cook kept pressing the meat and spraying it with what I assume is vegetable oil. The meat comes right out of a cooler. Maybe if they kept some meat on the grill they wouldn't have to rush the cooking. And there were no mushrooms anymore.
Apparently you never tried Poughkeepsie. THAT was an eye opener.

We were eating at G C one day. Got to watching a lady at the table next to us.She kept going up and coming back with a plate full of fried chicken. Watching her we noticed she had a very large purse with a plastic bag inside. She would put the chicken in the purse, wait a while and come back with another plate full. Takes a lot of grit to do something like that.

I remember working in the bakery and the older bakers hated the fountain because every time some kid sticks their hands in there costs 75 dollars for the chocolate every time they have to replace it the my other fellow bakers didn't even allow their own kids and grandkids to touch it and the cleaning the machine alone was a different task alone

I work at a Golden Corral now and I’ve found out that most GCs are doing away with the fountains. We haven’t had ours in two years. We have a rule where if a child is under 12 years of age an adult must accompany them. But people rarely listen

Forget about kids sticking their hands in there, I've seen them lick the chocolate off a marshmallow and put the marshmallow back into the fountain. It was gross. So if you dipped a strawberry into the fountain you were getting chocolate syrup plus a load of saliva from God knows how many kids. I hope they retire that thing.
Good restaurant and good food. When we lived in Austin TX our office staff would eat lunch there on many occasions.
One Sunday my wife and I had breakfast there and when the breakfast service was over they made and announcement that diners could remain and continue eating. Nice.
NC native here. I have eaten at Golden Corral all of my life. They are great! You are absolutely right about the rolls. They are to die for. They are a must. We usually get a plate full to share at our table. Also, I am quite sure the chocolate fountain was there prior to 2011. I remember the fountain there when I was a kid. That was many many moons ago. 😂
I ate at Golden corral and never got sick like ppl said I had no problem eating ther and I met some cool ppl working ther or eating ther I loved the place it depends on who's working ther never had a problem but I wdnt eat ther in winter cause colds and flus can spread
It's hit or miss by location, and it's hit or miss by entree or salad bar. Overall, though, it's pretty decent value all things considered. This is especially true given the high cost of almost all commercially prepared food these days.
I'm a small guy and just can't eat a large portion unless it Thanksgiving. Then I just hurt so good for a few hours. That's my favorite types of food whether it's dinner or supper. Have to have candied yams and cranberry too. If I do go there it's just one plate and maybe a desert. .
Well looks like the only competition for Golden Corral is Western Sizzlin do to the fact that the other Buffet restaurants went out of business (furr's, Ryan's, hometown and old county buffet)

The Golden Corral in El Cajon was the HomeTown Buffet. The food was meh then, it's meh now. But at $15.00 on the weekends, makes for a nice club meeting place.
HomeTown Buffet is a different all you can eat chain: VitaNova Brands Old Country Buffet, HomeTown Buffet, Ryan's Buffet, and Curry House are/was their brands. Golden Corral is a different chain.

Great food. I was told to arrive around 3:30 and eat light because the dinner menu starts at 4 and it has steak. Personally, this sounds like cheating but one couple I know does this all the time. I don't use the chocolate fountain because the kids aren't always mindful of what's acceptable. The kids should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
I love fried okra, a Southern dish. Plus give me fried shrimp and a loaded baked potato. I like cookies for desert with ice cream.

If you make sure to go to the breakfast buffet about 30 minutes before they switch to lunch you will still be allowed to eat there when there's nothing but lunch items on the buffet and breakfast is usually cheaper than lunch anyways why not get breakfast and lunch items for the price of only breakfast

I have been to many buffet's over the years, some of the best being in Las Vegas and on cruise ships. I try and keep a open mind when I go to one. Its mass produced food so I don't expect a 5 star meal. It fills you up and if you have a crowd of people to feed its somewhat economical . They are what they are.
The best Buffet I've been to is the Bacchanal buffet at Caesar's Place. It is pricey, though in all honesty, I didn't pay both times I went, one time was on the house and the other time I used points. The first time I had about five dollars worth of homemade tacos that were to die for, some cheese and fruit for dessert and a glass of wine and called it a day. I didn't come close to a good deal, but it was awesome. The second time I went, I had a mix of fresh seafood including a raw oyster shooter, A prime rib eggs benedict, some fried chicken, a salad, cake and ice cream for dessert. Again, it was awesome.

Yeah, and many of their restaurants closed permanently after the pandemic. Why? I know of five in one area that closed but, the city across the river re-opened all of theirs. Again, why?
When I moved to Tennessee from Canada my new friends said "let's go to butts n' guts" I'm like wha???? Oh it's Golden Corral all you can eat ha ha ha ha it's pretty good too!
