A few hours drive along be beautiful landscapes and countryside and we have arrived.
I turns out, the Shady Maple is not only America's largest buffet, but it's an Amish buffet as well. An incredible offering of classic comfort favourites. From crispy fried chicken, melt in your mouth briskets, to that luxurious fork tender roast beef...and if that wasn't enough, how about a Philly Cheese Steak with a side of Seafood Chowder.

I’ve been a chef for 25 years and seeing a clean good buffet always marvels me! The amount of work and organization that is taking place is next to impossible so when you find a buffet like that one they are a gem that deserves all the praise and patronage possible
I remember my Dad waking my brothers, Mom, and I at 5 in the morning on a Saturday telling us we were going out to lunch. Huh?? Who gets up at 5 in the morning to go out to lunch. But to our surprise we would travel from Long Island, New York to Pennsylvania Dutch Country to have lunch at Good & Plenty. It is an Amish Family Style meal with all you can eat. So wish I could turn back the hands of time to spend time with my Family again. Thank you Daddy for the wonderful memories that I hold dear to my heart. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

I’m from Long Island and I drive there several times a year. Love their food.
I loved Good and Plenty, it was my favorite. It's closed now. The owners got old and the children did not want to carry on the work. The Amish Community bought it and were going to turn it into a medical facility.

If I lived near that buffet, I don't think I would bother cooking at home very often. I only eat one meal a day, the price is amazing, and with that variety of home style food, it would be difficult to get bored eating there.
It would be very hard to justify cooking yourself when this place is around 😋

It's really hard to maintain a huge buffet, especially these days. It's rare to find a buffet period, but this one is awesome and totally worth a visit.

My wife and I went there about 6 months ago after seeing a review of it. We were amazed by the size of the buffet. Very reasonable price as well. The gift shop is huge!

The Amish people really know how to cook and bake. I’ve had so many great meals while in Amish country.

Between that buffet and touring the Smithsonian Afterward. You'll still be in shape. I love buffet. Who ever came up with buffet was a true genius YUM.

I have very fond memories of visiting this wonderful buffet over the years. I have not been there in the past 15 years, and it is good to see it thriving and expanded its menu items. The food is always good and the people who work there are amazing and so friendly. We always stopped in their gift shop and shopped at their supermarket next door. So glad you had a good time there!
It is indeed an incredible place.. I visited the gift store afterwards but just didn't have enough time to fully do it justice...
Used to go with my grandparents that had an RV/trailer in the Lancaster area. So fun as a kid/teen, and definitely huge! Haven't been in probably 20 years but glad to see it's still there and looking great, might need to take a trip back over soon :)
Their gift shop and supermarket are awesome! I haven't been there in quite some time but plan to get back there sometime in the next year or so. Can't wait!

Being a Pennsylvania native I've been there twice it's been awhile but I plan on going back this summer with family. Can't wait. If you have never eaten here you really should try it. The food and the prices are unbelievable. That price includes price and tip. They tell you no tipping at the table. And drinks! Thank you again Tim! Great video!

These place is huge and so clean! Lots of food choices too! I like the option of grilled shrimp over fried. It seems like watching these food shows on tv, so many fried and plastered in habanero and other spices like that. It’s nice to have options that don’t mean I’m going to suffer heartburn later on.
I've been to Shady Maple many times over the years. I have close friends in Reading, PA. We tend to go when it's someone's birthday because the birthday person eats for free. The buffet is quite vast, the food is delicious and the staff is very friendly.
I can't think of a better way to celebrate a birthday. The free birthday meal would be icing on the cake

Living in Delaware, we venture to Shady Maple every so often. The ham meatballs or ham loaf s one of our family’s favorite buffet items. We always make sure to take a cooler and stop at their grocery store to get some of their oven-ready ham loaf mix. It’s very good made into meatballs and cooked with pineapple, green pepper, and onion. Even if you don’t have time for the buffet, they used to have a luncheon kiosk as you entered the grocery store where they ran daily specials. Awesome place and well worth the trip!
It's nice that you're so close by.. those ham meatballs were absolutely delicious.. wasn't sure what to expect when I first tried it. Their make goods are really good too!
The luncheon kiosk is gone. It's some kind of store now. The smaller buffet beneath the big Smorgasbord is also gone now. My mother used to like to go there because she couldn't walk a lot and that was easier for her. The Smorgasbord is still great though! :)
I would driven from Chicago just to try this buffet. Perhaps on my way to Gettysburg this summer
They didn't have many buffets in the Phillipines but the night markets were almost as good. Great Lechon

I'm always amazed at the amount of food and servings in America and food prices are still very good in comparison to so many other countries.
It's quite an amazing deal here... Quite a difference from the New York prices
The US has cheap food for the most part, except Hawaii and Alaska but mangos Canada bad Tim! I always miss the fresh veggies and fruit that are cheap in Europe.
One of the reasons why so many Americans are obese.

I was driving around Amish Country. Drove up to a dirt lot full of Amish carts with horses. The sign said chicken lunch. The food was great! I was the only non Amish in the cafeteria. Great experience! I was treated real good. Ps.I think lunch cost me $6!

I love Shady Maple. It is a little over an hour from our home. The pink eggs are pickled in beet juice, They have a lot of traditional Pennsylvania Dutch food. Delicious!!!

There are so many good things to eat in Lancaster. I have been visiting since I was a child. I can remember when Kitchen Kettle was just the farmhouse and the smell of apple butter being made greeted you as you turned on to 340. Bird in Hand Market is fun and has tasty things, and a nice restaurant, too. Immerguts Pretzels, Groffs homemade candy, and the jam and jellies at Kitchen Kettle are wonderful, too.

Been there several times. Although it's considered a little bit of a tourist trap, it's definitely good food! Lancaster County has so many great places to eat.

Have been there once and it was well worth the small drive we had , absolutely amazing how huge it is ! Food is wonderful and don’t forget to go downstairs to the gift shop! Pricey but amazing

Now you're in my neck of the woods. There are many great buffets in Eastern Pennsylvania. Mount Airy Casino buffet in the Pocono Mountains is super good and upscale with a lot of seafood and prime rib and sometimes crab legs. Happy you came to the great state of Pennsylvania!

Miller’s in Ronks, PA has a great buffet but they are more expensive than Shady Maple.
The Amish don’t mess around when it comes to food. Best buffet on the planet and what’s amazing is it’s so inexpensive !
I used to live about 10 minutes from Shady Maple. I knew it was big but I didn’t know it’s the biggest in the country.

I LOVE Shady Maple! I lived in PA for 2 yrs, fairly close to Shady Maple. The fried chicken & roast beef…the best! I’m back in CA now…I miss Shady Maple!
Just to be clear ( to those not familiar with Shady Maple ), $17 is for the Lunch Buffett Monday- Friday. Saturday lunch and dinner( all week) is higher.
I worked at a Golden Coral in Glendale AZ back in 2008 This Looks very similar LOTS of great choices
At any other buffet that price wouldn't even cover a tip....it's more than reasonable...it's incredible !!!
I actually live about 25 minutes from this buffet and honestly, though the price is a little steep (if I recall about $20-25), It's been a staple restaurant in my life for over a decade. Especially enjoyed best for free on your birthday! No matter if you come here for the breakfast, lunch, or dinner buffet, it's always a hit. A few things that weren't showcased in this video include the gigantic store underneath the entire square footage of the building with a variety of awesome products, as well as the entire additional buffet that is down a corridor at the end of the main buffet line. I love this buffer and most likely will continue to come here for years to come and would suggest taking the drive to this establishment to anybody. Plus you can enjoy Lancaster county as well!
Even $25 is a deal for that amount of food and the variety.
@@ItsNumberSeven Agreed. Tim said $17 for lunch and you get a special deal if you go for lunch dinner. Either way you are right that $25 is still a bargain for the selection and also the quality of food (verified by food vloggers Tim Lee, Mikey Chen, Mark Wiens, etc...)
I guess its a regional thing too because even $25.00 for this selection of home cooked from scratch food where i live would be a BARGAIN…in socal, one can spend more than 25 bucks on one person at a drive through, easily….
@@vodkarocket1 yeah, update*" I went about 2 weeks ago and it was $28.99 per adult before tax. Group of 4 of us cost $123. This is what I mean when I refer to how it can be rather pricey. But I've also been to buffets in Vegas and elsewhere when prices can exceed $70 a person.
What swell channel. The buffet itself should be the star, but Tim is the best host I have encountered in a long while. Friendly, accessible, and easy to spend time with.

Mr Lee, many people have assumed for decades that it is pronounced Pennsylvania Dutch, but I did a little research after living in PA for 14 years, and I found out it is not Pennsylvania Dutch, but the proper name is Pennsylvania Deutsch. (German)
In the past many Deutsch people(Germany) flowed over in Pennsylvania giving it its name. In American, when we cannot pronounce a word. We give it our interpretation, and no one corrects. So.....Generations later..I speak TRUTH.
I have the food was delicious.
I can certainly see the German influence at the shady Maple... From the wonderful hams to the apple strudel
I am PA Dutch and it's pronounced that way but back in the 1700s when our families came, it was PA Deutch and mispronounced as Dutch

It was a strange texture... Was fully prepared for the sourness of the pickling, but it was just a texture.
I enjoy pickled eggs but I enjoy them more with either salt or Sriracha sauce on them to kinda offset the rubber-like texture.
It’s a commercial kitchen and most of the food is commercial grade, it’s literally just a buffet playing on the Amish name. No different than when you see a farmers market with an Amish stand. You say to yourself, wow it’s an Amish stand, it has to be good. It’s usually no different than going to your local grocery store because they all sell the same stuff! It’s a marketing ploy! They can be just as shady as anybody else!
@@edbergmannI sense jealousy from someone who has never been there and enjoyed the price to quality comparison. Hope your lackluster employees at the Golden Corral treat you as well as they do here, and you can get homemade pies from local farm stands.
I’ve worked in many kitchens and Shady Maple blows any of them out of the water.

Wow! Only $17 for a lunch buffet, What are bargain especially with the food selections. Definitely worth the long drive.

This video brought back so many memories of when I lived in Philly and also Lancaster County and we would go a couple of times per year, when we were in the area. So delicious! I went so many times but I never got to try everything because their offerings seem endless… And the country store on the ground floor was so cute and had so many unique items for sale.
Their cooking is hearty and filling. Amish Pea Salad is my favorite.
They were just so many dishes and I knew I missed some gems.. got to try that pea salad
Oh wow that buffet looks amazing. Before I got sick I could handle a good buffet. At least 3 plates. Now I don't even go. 2 bites and I'm done. I live vicariously through you. Lol. Great video

Shady Maple is a favorite of many bus tours, so be prepared to wait. There is another Buffet called Yoder's, it is not far from Shady Maple. I found it spectacular!

This place is amazing and definitely an experience! The first time I went I couldnt eat much because of my throat being damaged, but I went back after my operation just to try it again, beautiful place and the gift shop downstairs is so big is mesmerizing. Complete with a fast food restaurant in the corner.

@@mikevasapollo6349 Yes, I used to take my disabled mother there as it was hard for her to stand or even wait long in lines and she preferred the smaller restaurant to the buffet. But pre-pandemic I took her there and it had closed. Also, the sandwich shop at the end of the Market building closed as well and I think recently became like a gift shop or home goods store or something. Not sure as I didn't go in that last time I was up.
Another wonderful video Tim. I was in Lancaster, PA last year(only a 10 mile drive from this buffet) and didn't even know this place exist?? Gotta try it next time.
Make sure you go! Highly recommend it. And from the comments, I think the dinner buffet is the one to go to!

In America we eat the hot bacon dressing on spinach leaves with bacon and croutons but I like tomatoes also and traditionally it has hard boiled egg. I use to make it, now I need to again! Lol
