      True, but on the other hand, caring, like, actually caring about your rank is one way to improve too. I hated being a 1.9k scrub, I did not enjoy my time there, and I wanted to improve. It did not yet come to watching replays, but I did watch guides, and started practicing lasthitting before each session, while also selecting a few heroes to stick to. And I am 3.8 at the moment. Thing is, if you just like seeing numbers go up and cry about people preventing you from seeing them grow, this is not actually caring. Caring about your rank means actively doing something to improve at the game

    Going from Crusader bracket to Legend was just a bloodfest. Well, not really to blame most of it on teammates but usually because of drafting. I had so many games where we had a shitload of damage but zero catching or tanky heroes, so when the enemy team who do have those things, it always ends up the enemy team winning fights in a comeback scenario. It's more of figuring out which perfect heroes needed to play that would suit the team better than playing something that is more comfortable with your play style. And going through that, it helped a lot with me winning games until reaching the Archon bracket. Albeit I suffered a lot of MMR loss because of trying multiple heroes. But having a lot of practice and knowing which heroes hit their spike faster or has a stronger scaling, it's these things that end up determining whether you win a game from the 1k to 3k brackets.

    I think there is one perspective i can offer, i also went a phase of caring about rank and trying hard, but that didnt help me increase , but when i was chilling and playing with a chill mind, i was ranking up so fast, my reasoning in this is, when we are stressing about it, we perform worse, but all the things we learn during those times stay with us, so after trying hard to rank up and failing, we still learnt alot. So now that we are playing chill those things we learn, we still apply but with a calm mind, which makes u more consistently better

    Coming from a friend of mine that is a semi pro Dota player he says that switching up roles might be a bit of a challenge but if you are good at your role you can very quickly get good at another role if you have a great understanding of the game. So the tinker spammee might be shit at any other hero but he/she will quickly get good at other heroes just by natering the unfamiliar mechanics. To me that's a measure of skill in the game. It's the same things as a highly skilled player having a bad day, the potential to do very well is still there it just depends on the day. I think the ranking system looks busted at first glance and very analytically it may seem unfair but all the chaotic challenges of the games you face were faced by all of the people above your rank(excluding the boosted and account buyers) at the end of the day you can blame the griefer in your last game but what made you lose the 8 games before that. I'd say the only outliers in the ranked game play would be party queues. They can always get carried and do minimal to get a high rank but who are they and what are they worth in solo match making. And if they go nowhere then that's all you need to know. At the end of the day your skill at the game is knowing it well enough to manipulate it to your will to win. If you have a griefer or a noob, how much do you know about the game to improve your chances of overcoming that. And if you can get your chances to over 50% you'll eventually get out of that dreadful bracket to face the new challenges of the griefers of the new bracket. And so the ranked grind continues. I tried to explain to my friend that his 30 kills on a carry was not as impressive because of the fact that they still lost the game because it means he had the power to end the game being so far ahead but he chose not to. And sure his team let him down by not carrying their weight but he had the win but didn't know how to capitalize on it while a better player would have.

    what personally shocks me is the big MMR Inflation since the Glicko System got introduced. Like everyone is Immortal now, and the Game Quality of Immortal games is absolutely horrendous. 8k Matches feel like pre Glicko 6.5k Matches at best, 7k Games sometimes feel like 5k Games and the lower you go the worse it gets. 5-6k Immortal is absolutely insane, how awful the Game Quality is. I can't even imagine how it is like playing in the Ranks that are not even Immortal. What Valve definitely should do is to Implement some more Ranks, or shift the Ranks up in MMR. Because the way it is right now, Immortal is just completely busted.
    I have no clue how it is though for ranks like Divine and below.
    About the Video though, the thing that I can recommend people is, to not care about their Rank. I have been in the past low digit number Immortal before, and you always ask yourself at some point, well what do you actually have from this. Like there will be people here and there saying OMG you so good and good job or whatever, or annoy you with things like "can you teach me"... if you want to get a high rank do it ONLY for yourself, and not to get gratification from others. But my very very best advice I can give you is, play the Game for fun... honestly, just have fun playing with your friends and have a nice laugh together doing hilarious things. I would literally do anything nowadays to be a 2k player or so and just being able to queue with friends for fun and have a nice enjoyable time. You can't smurf anymore or get a lower ranked Acc with the changes Dota did, and even playing unranked is absolutely unfair, when your friends are 1k and you are 8k. Because they will play against other much higher ranked players, and that destroys their fun.
    Think about where your priorities are, if you want to grind that game seriously, or do you enjoy to play the Game with friends and just have a nice time.

  • @sandimtavares

    Good video. I'd add an important reality check to it all. The only people for whom rank/MMR matters are the people that genuinely believe they have a shot at going pro. If you're at that level, sure, your rank does matter because scouting for the best players is a reality. But for literally everyone else, the other 99.9% of the population, the only thing that truly matters is that you enjoy the games of dota you play. And I don't even think solo queue is the best avenue to maximize that enjoyment, playing with friend stacks, even unranked leads to way more fulfilling games most of the time.
    So, yeah, if you're 10k+ and dream of going pro, by all means, care about your rank. But if you're losing sleep over being 3 or 4k, just play with some friends and enjoy yourself.

      Totally agree with you. I, for example, only play ranked solo queu, because it offers the role mode and there for deals with a shit ton of position / role lighting during draft in pubs.
      I don't care for the medal or number. I just want the lanes to be "fixed". I wished, Valve would integrate a role mode for unranked as well, especially for beginners that would help a lot and improve game experience when not in a party.

    The difference with comparing a basket ball team and it's individual player skill and a Dota pub is a basket ball team will always have the same players in it and if a good player can't shine with certain people then they never will. In random match making among your skill group you can still average put your wins and losses to get a general idea of how impactful you are in the game. Even if your team always sucks in your skill bracket the people that are a higher rank than you most likely had to deal with the same kinds of people so it takes a certain level of skill to rise above those odds and still win the game.

    Great video. I would LOVE Valve to introduce some form of Guild War for guilds to rank up. That would ultimately mean that the individual skill would be in the background while the win of the team / guild would be more important. That way Dota as a game would move closer to sport teams where as you said the individual skill is less important than the team skill.

    If I play regular hero I play, I will be probably around my MMR.
    If I play hero I have 0 experience and that does not suit my playstyle, I might be 1k mmr lower.

Then I learned if your stomping off lane start denying the camps behind their tower. Once I got that down I Then I focused a lot on stacking. Once I got the times and feel for that I focused a lot on ward placement. Ect you see what happens. Doing one of these might give you a 1or 2% chance at winning but over time that starts to matter

    In my opinion ranks represents how much in-depth knowledge you have in the game. It actually doesn't matter that much if you are a one hero spammer or not. But spammer gets upper hand in various aspects of the gameplay. They have better knowledge on their hero, have better reaction time, better strategy and better game plan in difficult situations. It is solely because they are climbing up in the ranking system and playing against better enemy. Better players don't really want to depend on their teammates. Even in the ancient rank people don't have proper knowledge on how to put pressure on the map. Most of the people thinks about farming and wining hero matchup or teamfights but you can win the game by making opponents reacting on your movements and smart positioning. In my case I learnt putting extreme pressure on the map spamming Lycan. Now I can put almost the same amount of pressure on the map with my other offlane heros. Also spamming heroes helps you to build up your confidence. The higher a player climbs the rank the higher his gameplay knowledge gets even if he spams 1/2 heroes. Prime example of this would be Bulldog and ATF. If I am not wrong ATF was in legend rank at 2017/2019.

    • @Docwell
      @Docwell  5 месяцев назад +1

      You’re right in the sense that the person who is spamming the hero understands the game much better in the context of how that specific hero reacts to all the mechanics and situations in the game.
      It also allows you to learn the game itself faster because you no longer worry as much about the hero specifics once you have those under control and you can focus on the deeper and more complex aspects of the game

    Im an ancient 4,5 player that queues with frends that are archons, i usually play pos 1, and if enemy team has an archon 2 pos 1 its almost impossible to lose, i dont wanna say that they are worse at dota, all i wanna say is that understanding of the game is different, game is not balanced if i play pos 1 as an ancient, and enemy team has ancient pos 5 hard support, it just doesnt work, back in the day when i queued solo and i saw i was lowest rated guy in the team i know its my job to play support. IT IS WHAT IS, dont even try to argue that archon can be a better player than an ancient. 1 major thing i noticed between ancient pos 5, and an archon pos 5 is that archon pos 5 in late game show way too often in teamfights, i mean on the moments when pos 5 blinks in uses all spells, and continues to right clich heroes, thats a sing of low understanding of the game, mmr is not just a number. sad but true

    I relate someone mmr to their competency in REAL LIFE. Which is accurate so far.
    Herald to archon = slow learner, unreliable & burden such as always borrow money & always useless to rely on help, can't even ask for cigarette, always don't have
    Legend = just average guy, extrovert, averagely reliable, u can ask for cigarette they might have it sometime
    Ancient/divine = fast learner, good worker, introvert, reliable, always has cigarette
    Immortal = neat jobless stay at home, i mean more like never had real job like most people out there

    8:50. 4k or 6k 1 hero picker is stronger than 3k player who plays variety of heroes. I don't think it is controversial topic. 3k player can be stronger than 4k for different reasons but being jack of all trades means very little.

  • @yuan5154
    @yuan5154 5 месяцев назад

    I'd argue that youve gott be both the 3k mmr jack of all trades and the 6k mmr specialized player in order to reach said rank to begin with
    Cause in a solo rank environment, it really just cane down to how well u adapted to any given 4 strangers at any given time, and in order to rise through that kind of environment you've really gotta step up and be good at any given role and prioritize the one you are really good at
    And if anything, the rank you have symbolizes how well you can adapt
    Imma 6k pos5 player, but i mainly play core in turbo these days

    I have extreme difficulties in climbing as a support. Wow look we already took t3 mid and mega bot already by 20 min, we have 10k gold lead lets end. Naaah my carry wants to farm and the game ended with us losing at 50 min.

    Dude, I've been playing dota2 since 2013 and im around 6k mmr from like 2015. Let me tell you, mmr DOES MATTER AND DEFINE PRETTY WELL YOUR SKILL LEVEL, there's no such thing as being stuck in the same 2/3/4/5/6/7/8k bracket if you're playing well, most of those players who think they deserve better and lose 5/10 games, SUCK HARD. It's not the same at the pro level, but you actually need to be a VERY HIGH mmr player to play core on T1 teams. Aside from that if you really want to improve stop thinking about winning or lossing a game and focus on your gameplay and role, ask yourself at the end of the game did i play well? could i have done more? And the answer is always going to be YES.

  • @wiizardx
    @wiizardx 5 месяцев назад

    i dont . but i need my cores to be better than my enemy cores, because no matter how good we do early game as supports, if we lose i'll feel bad.

    Well, imagine u have 6 k player and 4 k player. Doesn't matter what 6ks gonna pick they gonna win, they play faster, group up faster, know how to counter enemy team, when to smoke, how to play lost matchup etc. 6.3k mmr here

    Твой ранг = твой скилл. Скилл побеждать. Если ты не побеждаешь и у тебя низкий ранг, значит ты не понимаешь игру, ты нуб. Как только ты поймешь, действительно поймешь игру, узнаешь мету, доведешь базовые действия до автоматизма, ты будешь поднимать ранг, даже на саппорте. Естественно до разумных пределов. Но титаном точно можно на саппорте стать

    • @Docwell
      @Docwell  5 месяцев назад

      More than 1k is a far enough gap for sure. Another great comparison for specific heroes would be invoker. A 6k player who doesn't play invoker may be absolute trash on the hero.
      It's always hard to really know how much is the hero versus how much is general game skill, the exact mmr difference can never really be pinpointed.

    A superior system would have an AI model, that is extremely good at the game, analyse a players performance.

    • @Docwell
      @Docwell  5 месяцев назад

      This might be a good idea where if the game goes 45 min and you’re literally 1v9 but still lose maybe the AI can see that so you only lose like 10mmr instead of 25 or something. But even then it might get a little weird and hard to make accurate.
