As he said brilliant the best cover song I have heard love the little dance moves the two guitarists did and Zal pulling the chaps trousers a fantastic band
As a contemporay touring muso, these were the guys you went to see. So tight, so locked in as a band. And Alex... a stage presence that was unworldly. A master class in being a creative muso but also a radical entertainet all in one. Not an act that could be surpassed.
Yet another Scottish rock legend sitting alongside 'Whispering' Bob Harris, the late great Dan McCafferty of Nazareth. R. I. P. to you both and thanks for the music and the memories
I first heard of these guys when they got played on WMMS in Cleveland, but I never got the chance to see them (too young). These guys never got the acclaim they truly deserved, but SAHB was a talented band that I still listen to and enjoy. It's hard to believe that Alex and the McKenna brothers (Hugh and Ted respectively) transitioned from this planet, but their work with SAHB will live on. Rest in power Alex, Ted, and Hugh.
I went out with a guy called Tony lambert who played keyboards for Alex Harvey.alex died on a ferry back from a concert in Belgium.tony lambert was on that boat with him snd said it was heartbreaking A solid talent wonderfully missed.god bless lovely Tony he passed recently.great memories to treasure
Pure class SHAB and Alex in particular were not just musicians they were performance art, however good the music was the live performances were a thing to behold. R.I.P Alex.
Alex & the band were phenomenal- the expression,“sausages are ra boiz”, definitely sits well with them. Great fellas, saw you in 1975, Parkhead (not a great place for me, I have to admit) but Alex & the band were spot on - Tomahawk Kid. RIP, our Scots Musical Maestro, Love, Jane Russell
@@Andy-lm2zp what a great memory to have , you are so lucky to have seen them live . I have to say I've just really gotten into them this past year or so . The music is timeless and what showmen. They deserve a much needed reappraisal in the mainstream music press .👍
@@patrickjoneill4551 Yep, live I have never seen anyone hold the audience like Alex did, needless to say they were loud as ****, I remember Zal's guitar solo's, I told my friend after the show that Zal's guitar cuts through your brain like a lemon wrapped round a brick! The concert programme had a picture of Alex blowing out the candles on a 40th birthday cake, we could hardly believe he was 40 ! Wow, that was old to us then. The concert was a couple of weeks before the old grey whistle test appearance and when I saw them on tv I was very exited to see them, Highlights were, the Tale of the giant stone eater, Action Strasse , give my compliments to the chef, of course they did Delihla as a bit of (light? Truly, besides Billy, Alex is one of Glagows greatest sons. "The Mafia stole my guitar" still a gem in my collection and all his recordings a legacy to the world. An unforgettable voice, a myth and a spellbinder❤
What a fucking song title!, the mafia stole my guitar!, i can 100% relate to that kind of patter as a local! But i would wager plenty that some empty devoid of life lumps of jelly couldn't get the sahb even if their life depended on it
The band were due to go on Top of the Pops in the mid 70's and the DJ was Tony Blackburn. Rumour has it that Tony announced them as the Alex Harvey Band, and they refused to play until Tony announced them as Sensational Alex Harvey Band
One of the By Far Better Bands To Have ever appeared on the Old Grey Whistle Test True Pros , sounding perfect !! ( the mix of that one keyboard a little high but ... absolute Kings
I saw them at Parkhead in 1975 - what Alex called ‘Paradise’ but I’m what they call a ‘pie’ not a ‘cake’, however, he/they were fantastic. RIP Tomahawk kid. JaneR
Sensational performance. Saw them several times in mid 2000's, obviously minus Alex, but the rest of the band were there. A gig in Glasgow was filmed for a DVD which I have and I can see me in the crowd.
AAA+++ the Glaswegian accent is so compelling in this fantastic theatricalised rock. He just couldn't take any more: such drama. Rock/pop acts through the decades have lacked this, no fing drama: only Alex
Saw them live early 80s I think, Alex was in the local pub before the gig, on a stool at the bar, but nobody would go and speak to him because he had such a fearsome reputation, what a great show though!

Zal is a natural dancer too in addition to being a superb guitarist! Chris does a great job too!!
The video and little dances are absolutely unhinged 😂 I love it. Amazing band !!

Fantastic, one of the best bands I ever see live
Absolutely, it was all theatrical with Alex , playing to the camera/ crowd, brilliant 👍
Such Understated Musicianship Absolutely Brilliant !!!!!!

The band was phenomenal. Still my go to music fifty years later!!
Masterpiece.
Top top musicians, the four of them (and Alex was a gritty guitar player too).

grateful these live performances are available wish I could have seen them in the flesh
Saw them at Celtic Park 1976.... support for The Who.... great gig and my first!
One of those extremely rare occasions when a band or artist do a better job than the original. Sensational is totally apt
it is the original version -- the others are the poorer.
Awesome. I was blessed to see them in Cleveland, Ohio. They were fantastic.
Me too!
When did happen ? And what place did he play ? Y'all very lucky to have been in the right place, right time ...
Me too.
they played the Cleveland area 5 times between Dec 74 and Nov 75. Agora, Allen Theater, Music Hall, the Joker in Elyria and Akron Civic.
This is one of the bands I wish I had been old enough to see!! - They would've been superb live. RIP Alex. X
Alex..gone but not forgotten.
Who?
Love this especially the little dance they do about halfway through it

A great song, given the epic Alex Harvey treatment. Love it!
Fortunate to see them 1975. The best opening act I ever saw.
Who could follow that? Who were the unfortunate headliners?

Just Epic. Very few songs put an original to shame. Here is the best example of where it can happen.
