      As time goes by the chances rises by them just doing that naturally versus intentionally.
      More and more will start to appear on the scene just naturally based off of the way they communicate.
      And it'll end up being swarmed without the intensely choosing the coordinator.

    If this was a scorpion, the ants would absolutely overwhelm & kill it. Yet, the camel spider usually has an issue taking on a scorpion because of it's sting. Nature's checks & balances are truly fascinating.

    • @whitehavencpu6813
      @whitehavencpu6813 Год назад +189

      yeah camel spiders are built for endurance, speed and stamina, while scorpions rely on their armor and envenomed disabling effects from their stingers instead. Scorpions just hunt one large target and that's enough to keep them full, meanwhile camel spiders need to roam and hunt a lot of small prey because they lack venom to pin down larger prey, hence they evolved to have immense stamina. Those chelicerae(mandibles) can go on chewing non-stop, which allows them to take on ant colonies like this. They never get tired hence as long as they can feed themselves while attacking, there isn't any stopping their onslaught until they're completely full. Notice how bloated its abdomen is, that's how much they can eat and store as energy reserves for their tireless attack.

      if it's a different ant species, camel spiders didnt have much to do. They can't do anything against killer ants, driver ants, fire ants, bullet ants, argentine ants. Camel spiders as all ant eater animals chose very well the ant species they'll attack.
      But it still not less impressive.

      @@gold6759Ants aren’t smart individually, but as a collective. A single ant has very little comprehension of a situation more complex than “complete this task at this moment.”
      They don’t see “a miraculous pile of corpses”, they see “hey look, a body I need to move-OH SHIT WHAT’S THAT-“ and then their entire communication chain falls apart.

    • @purpleemerald5299
      @purpleemerald5299 Год назад +83

      @@KatarinaBohtana Contrary to pop-culture, no, actually. I was surprised to learn that they operate more like thousands of neurones in a brain. To be more specific:
      Ants all have instinctual reactions to basic stimuli, but can also share different pheromones between each other to trigger more specific actions in response to said stimuli. Meaning that, as a whole, they form an entire network of complex chain reactions greater than the sum of its parts, just like…well, your brain.
      Even the queen is just another cog in the colony’s grand machine. Producing eggs is merely her purpose, and her importance is instinctually recognized by her children, who safeguard her in-turn. But much like how your individual neurones can’t actually “know” anything on their own, ants can’t actually fathom the scale or complexity of their own colony. They simply do what their instincts tell them to.
      To sum it up, think of an ant colony less like a collective of individual organisms, and more like it’s own single super-organism. Yes, it’s as alien as it sounds.

      They usually do but the camel spider is a specialist at killing it’s victims mechanically and quickly with his enormous venomless fangs. Combined with its speed it’s an extremely efficient predator for its size . I haven’t seen a camel spider lose to any other bug, they even no match praying mantises.

    • @triplocore
      @triplocore Год назад

      It depends of the species. if it's a different ant species, camel spiders didnt have much to do. They can't do anything against killer ants, driver ants, fire ants, bullet ants, argentine ants. Camel spiders as all ant eater animals chose very well the ant species they'll attack.
      But it still not less impressive.
      Even big mammals as Tamandua is selective with the ants they'll raid.
