I had one as a pet, named him Steve. Found him in my house, though smaller and light brown. I thought it was weird looking since it seemed to have 10 legs, but they actually have 8 legs and 2 giant feelers. They are very handy with them, as you can see here, and I got to watch Steve skillfully and quickly "rearrange" his home when he felt like it. Very cool. Also known as Wind Scorpions, Camel Spiders, and Sun Spiders, Solpugids are like cross of spider and scorpion and technically aren't either. They are very fast and hunt at night. I would put crickets I caught into Steve's cage and before I could reach my bed after shutting off the lights I could hear him crunching on the crickets. He was so fast. They also, I've read, have one of the strongest bites proportionate to their size. But don't be afraid of the ones found in homes. Those ones, like Steve, eat bugs and even other spiders! So they are actually quite helpful. I'm unfamiliar with the bigger ones from the desert. Steve was a fun little guy to keep, observe, and learn from. I caught Steve as an adult and he lived well past a year, went peacefully. They only have about one year about so I assume he made it to old age. I know they aren't meant be pets, but having never seen or heard of them before I saw Steve scitter across my living room floor, I was just too fascinated. EDIT: WOW! So many read my little remembrance of Steve! It warms my heart, I'm glad to see a seemingly scary little creature can bring us together in like-minded fascination. I haven't kept one as a pet again though I have seen many other "Steve's", as my family and I call them now, and I always send them on their way safely. They get surprisingly tiny, I haven't seen another one as magnificent as Steve in a while. Steve was probably under 2 inches long maybe just over an inch so they aren't big where I live. Anyway, for those of you that think I'm nuts for keeping one as a pet... well so did my mom. In fact he he turned out to be a surprisingly good gatekeeper from her snooping in my room as a teenager haha! Thank you Steve.

Is precisely not having Venom what allows them to do this , they instead have mouths like scissors , which allow to cripple/kill the ants with no problem , a spider with venom would struggle since ants are small and is hard to land a hit with the fangs

Pretty sure this must've been exhausting, it probably wandered into the wrong neighbourhood and used aggression as its defence and the ants just kept coming, it's not even sure that many other ants knew of this because they probably have more than one entrance and could've totally swarmed it if the nest was on full alert... just my unprofessional guess 😌

This is certainly unexpected and impressive. The species of ant makes a big difference. I think some ant species would be too overwhelming. I believe the ants large size helped the CS because it was able to grab individuals. I'm guessing the ants bite and/or sting wasn't particularly strong. I may be wrong. I'm high and rambling.... This animal is properly known as a solifuge. It’s a distant cousin to spiders and scorpions. Note their gigantic paired jaws, which apparently are capable of mowing down a colony of ants.

Yes, the cocoon and pupa of this species is full of protein, as they are fed almost all the protein collected by the colony so that they can grow faster. The adults of this species don't eat much protein at all.
You sure? Looks a lot like the fly massacres many female Solifugae do in labs, prior to egg laying/guarding. They also tend to use holes from other bugs to dig out their burrows for said egg laying...sooo I think that may be your behavioral pattern. But I'm not a bug scientist.

Youd be surprised how doing that over the full course of the game, makes you a ton of money. I've got almost a million caps. No cheats or codes as it's on Xbox360. I'm currently playing New Vegas, and it's much harder than 3, but still good. I'm kind of at the beginning, though but just completed the Old World Blues DLC at Big MT. I have about 30,000 caps. I killed the giant robo-scorpion with only a photonic inversal axe! A stealth boy did the rest. Lol.

You have the stealth suit at Lv. 10 or something XD New Vages isn't as stealth friendly as 3, due to mostly being open space so it was hard for me to get used to at first. I tried that once, but seemed like a watse of time XD But yeah, New Vegas is difficult, even on Easy mode. Friggin' Giant Scorpions can kill you easily early game and Deathclaws are much tougher. I love both games, but New Vegas is 110%.

I’ve noticed that the ants that fight back, attack the legs of the camel spider. The camel spider does react quickly to prevent amputation by crippling the attacker.

This is certainly unexpected and impressive. The species of ant makes a big difference. I think some ant species would be too overwhelming. I believe the ants large size helped the CS because it was able to grab individuals. I'm guessing the ants bite and/or sting wasn't particularly strong. I may be wrong. I'm high and rambling....

This animal is properly known as a solifuge. It’s a distant cousin to spiders and scorpions. Note their gigantic paired jaws, which apparently are capable of mowing down a colony of ants.

Yes, the cocoon and pupa of this species is full of protein, as they are fed almost all the protein collected by the colony so that they can grow faster. The adults of this species don't eat much protein at all.

Looks a lot like the fly massacres many female Solifugae do in labs, prior to egg laying/guarding. They also tend to use holes from other bugs to dig out their burrows for said egg laying...sooo I think that may be your behavioral pattern.

@@alucardlord9032 of course. Those look like bullet ants which have the most intense sting in the insect kingdom. You can go into shock from just one. Waves of pain and agony, overheating and just swelling of your whole arm or wherever it stung you.

@@That_One_User_314 I've finished Fallout 3 "technically" full story, side missions plus all DLCs, but I'm just going through every location found on both world map and local map and scavenging everything, even junk. Youd be surprised how doing that over the full course of the game, makes you a ton of money. I've got almost a million caps. No cheats or codes as it's on Xbox360. I'm currently playing New Vegas, and it's much harder than 3, but still good. I'm kind of at the beginning, though but just completed the Old World Blues DLC at Big MT. I have about 30,000 caps. I killed the giant robo-scorpion with only a photonic inversal axe! A stealth boy did the rest. Lol.
@@CaptainFoufeu Fallout 3 is easy of you have The Anchorage DLC from the start. Just speed run through the whole thing and BAM! You have the stealth suit at Lv. 10 or something XD New Vages isn't as stealth friendly as 3, due to mostly being open space so it was hard for me to get used to at first. I tried that once, but seemed like a watse of time XD But yeah, New Vegas is difficult, even on Easy mode. Friggin' Giant Scorpions can kill you easily early game and Deathclaws are much tougher. I love both games, but New Vegas is 110%.
0:53 the camel spider is exhibiting signs of intelligence at least from my understanding based on how the spider is placing the victimized ants on the side of the entrance as the spider is digging into their colony. Though the spider is acting on instinct there is still some sort of self control.

When I was a kid, I let my fat friend ride on the back of my huffy bike. We fell on a fire ant bed. The fat kid landed on top of me...I was skinny as a tooth pick....it took a few seconds for him to get off of me. By the time he did, I was covered with ants...

The camel spider is apparently, freakishly well suited for this task. Just leaving behind a field of bodies. I can't believe it came out practically unscaved. Also I've got to say that thing is really freaking creepy to watch. I mean I've seen camel spiders before but this one just gives me the creeps for some reason.
