    I managed to snap the ball off the humerus bone. I had surgery and am in a mobilizer. Sleeping is difficult. I've been going between a recliner and my adjustable bed. I just haven't found the right pillow sizes and positions, but I keep trying. I eventually do fall asleep out of exhaustion. I pray that anyone who is in pain and reading this heals completely.

    I have a recliner but it's from my knee surgery so the handling is on the wrong side for my surgery. I purchased wedge pillows, it's not as comfortable as I like but it's doing the job. My challenge is swelling in my legs with retaining water. Other than that I'm so glad I watched all of the videos about this rotator cuff surgery.

    I'm on day 10 today. Sleeping isn't terrible anymore. First night was in a zero-gravity camping chair, I couldn't get out of it without a lot of core pain. Recliner for the next 2 terrible nights. Tried the bed with a wedge and that was awful. 4th night back to the zero gravity chair. It's been hot and the most difficult part has been dealing with the immobilizer sling straps. Much easier after it cools down so I usually start the night without the shoulder strap (just the waist strap) and then add the shoulder strap back in after it cools down. It's a fairly comfortable setup. I also use a CPAP so getting everything setup properly took lots of fuss and time. I expect to be using the zero gravity chair for a while.

    I'm an 77 year old man with a back pain and flexibility problem that prevents me from sleeping on my back for more than an hour, or bending at the waist with a "wedge" or recliner, without sciatica shooting pains. Left side is a problem as well. I generally sleep on my right side, even though that side has a torn supraspinatus tendon. I need surgery because at 15 degrees of abduction (attempting to raise the arm to the side) the shoulder gets in a bind and won't go higher. The MRI diagnosis was two years ago. But trouble raising the arm began recently. I'm afraid of surgery mainly because of my inability to sleep in the required position. The surgeon wants to do a "total" shoulder replacement even though the glenohumeral joint is in good condition and not arthritic according to the MRI. He says my supraspinatus is too far gone to repair and tear repairs don't have a good success rate in people my age. I understand that much, but a total joint replacement doesn't make sense to me.

    I just got surgery today and I'm in a kickstand sling. I guess that's an immobilizer. The nerve block is a o strange ( not being able to feel my arm or fingers ) just the annoying sense off my arm being asleep. It is very hard to get comfortable. It feels like body cast. I do wish the,strap that rubs on your neck and chin had the velcro placed lower. It's sharp and abrasive. I thought I was prepared pretty well for having my husband gone during the day tomorrow, but really questioning that now. We'll see

    Ive tried everything sometimes you can nail it sleeping on your back with the rolled up towels or blankets but to find that perfect point you need a surveyor with a laser level its hit and miss you will end up rolling on your side. Propped up on the couch with the same pillows rolled up things is easier to hit it without a laser guide but then you get back pain neck pain. I think most people when they suffer severe sleep deprivation end up on their side. Using the sling waist strap becomes to restrictive and although straps your shoulder in tight makes you wake up. I think the biggest problem is a brain problem as when you fall asleep your brain tries to move your arms which is natural when sleeping and wakes you up saying warning alert you have something on your arm a lion is eating your arm. Im 5 weeks in and every time it does that im like brain I know wtf it is let me sleep please but an hour after it does it again. I don't think there is a perfect solution for all I think just get tired enough you will get some good REM sleep which is the best kind of sleep lucid dreaming kind of sleep and you can survive on maybe 4 hours. This is my experience anyway.

    Rotator cuff surgery performed on me before 9 months. Still I can’t sleep on my right shoulder more than 5 minutes. I want to know when I will be able to sleep completely on my right shoulder?

    I did a recliner for 2 days, then inclined in bed for about a week. After that, I could sleep on my back using a towel at my side to keep it up.

    Doctor, how easy is it to do damage to a repair in the weeks following a procedure? I had a repair done 3 weeks ago for my S/S, ( 2 anchors, 4 sutures). I have a fear that I may have done some damage by sleeping on my side too soon. No signs that I have done any damage but just wondering. Thanks

    • @rotatorcuffexpert
      @rotatorcuffexpert  2 года назад

      It all depends on your how strong your repair is. But it seems unlikely if you are not having additional pain.

    Love the wine lover book in the bookcase! I'm due to having bicep repair at 50 yoa as a Police Officer and have to be "fit for duty" before I return back to work. I have not had my Ortho appointment, probably tomorrow. Injury just occurred. I'm worried about return to duty status and leaving my PD without my help and service. I was hoping it might be an Orthoscopic quick repair, but I have intense bicep pain when I flex my arm all the way and my shoulder is on fire. I know without an MRI to refer to it would be next to impossible for you to estimate a recovery time for my injury, but was hoping you might be able to give me a ball-park estimate? My brother and sister Officer's will be on the front lines without me for a bit and it really bothers me. I have a gym available at the PD and am more than willing to try and accelerate my physical therapy on my own. I am an avid weightlifting enthusiast. Mainly to maintain physical conditioning for the job.

      You are right it is impossible to tell, but maybe it is just an irritated biceps and it can be treated nonoperatively. If you do need surgery for a repair and also need to be full duty to return, it will be months. Here is hoping for a simple fix! Cheers to a quick recovery!

    About 2 weeks after surgery I started to experience numbness and tingling in my hand to my elbow. I can't sleep at night. The pain is intense. During the day my fingers tingle and I can't make a fist. I start PT tomorrow. Had 4 anchors inserted. Any idea what the numbness, tingling and burning sensation may be?

    • @rotatorcuffexpert
      @rotatorcuffexpert  3 года назад +1

      It can be from a few different places, It can be residual from your block (if you had one), from holding your shoulder in a different position after surgery due to pain and stiffness, and from compression of the nerve at your elbow from being in the sling. Talk through it with your Surgeon. They will be able to work through it with you,. Good Luck!

    What if one of those positions that you would say would be uncomfortable turn out to be comfortable? Like if I sleep on my non-surgical side and let my arm stretch down so my hand touches the bed that is very comfortable for me. Am I damaging anything by doing that?
