  • Town run for the first 6 mins and then some sped up motorway footage for the last 5 with a few slowed down bits in there too.
In the sped up section, see if you notice just how many cars are in the middle lane that could/should have been over in lane 1.

When I passed my test in 1990, my instructor had said from the first lesson, "ensure you know what is going on around you; develop that extra spatial awareness, so you can adjust your driving ability". In my Driving Test, I had just the situation as Emergency Service vehicles on Blue Lights approached me on one road from two directions at the same time, but I knew they were there and reacted accordingly, much to the praise of the Examiner at the end of the test when he asked where I learnt that move and performed it with ease, then announced I'd Passed! I still drive today being aware of what is around me. Shasme a lot of drivers as seen on these videos cannot do the same

I detect a level of respect when you get past 'switched on' drivers who just do the right thing. It's a shame others drivers cancel out some of the gains. It's a lesson to us all on how to manage our expectations and then emotions.

I do sincerely hope your trust appreciates how educational your videos have been for drivers and how they teach by example what to do when faced with an emergency vehicle.
By changing roles, drivers can see consequences making poor decisions produce and how those making wise choices can assist emergency vehicles.
I have learned so much on how to act when in a situation where an emergency vehicle neds to make progress and what measures we can all take to assist its progress.
Thank you Chris for sharing sch important information with us.

Even from back in the day when I passed (in 74) - the assumption I've made since then, is that - "Well, I've passed and got the licence now - so the road is now ours to use as we want to!" . . . You can literally see this same attitude out on the roads every single day with so many . . .!)

I am of an age where people were taught to consider a safe option for yielding to emergency vehicles, but now I am starting to fall on the side of the LAS videos that basically say "just carry on, let us work around you"

Thanks for keeping those of us in the Hitchin / Stevenage area safe Chris. I frequently travel on 99.5% of the roads your videos show, although I've only seen my road once.
You've certainly helped me become much more observant at junctions. I hope you're able to do the same for London drivers as a by-product of your 'real work'.
I was very aware of the need to pull in when seeing blue lights, but now see what you and your colleagues need is a ‘path’ - normal terminology on the railways. Nicely demonstrated at 3:40.
Until I saw your videos, I'd just assumed the increase in Blue-light unmarked cars on the A1(M) in Hertfordshire were police, but it could have been you sometimes.
From these videos, and comparing those from other parts of the country, I'd say Hertfordshire drivers are better than most😉

Trust managers get sent to all sorts - cardiac arrests as a scene manager, rtc’s, major or complicated incidents. It’s lovely to see them there - they sort the logistics whilst the crews get on with saving the lives.
Also, not every crew is a paramedic ambulance crew - some are aap’s, some are double eca crews, so can’t give certain drugs or interventions.
Managers are always welcomed on scene, Even if it’s to organise food and a cuppa on a protracted job

From previous videos he's stated that he's a Critical Care Paramedic - its not a standard role across all services and their role is different between areas, but as far as I understand, he's got more advanced skills and training than a regular paramedic meaning that he can offer more help and assistance at the scene than normal ambulances - possibly in this case because its a severe car accident and they were waiting on the air ambulance service - I think the idea is to provide more care in severe incidents where its required due to logistics, location etc - or if an air ambulance isn't currently available
Update to this - there's a video where he goes through his kit and lists reasons why he might be called out as well ruclips.net/video/BU2RQj6BkaU/видео.html - around 2:00

2:40 you didn't have visibility to overtake on the sustained left bend, and didn't have your sirens on, and said "not there, don't stop there" when the car pulled over - is it codified that an emergency vehicle with lights but no sirens isn't currently looking to overtake/drive "unconventionally" (there's definitely a better term I don't know!), and one shouldn't give way/deflect unless one can get fully out of the lane?

I was told to cancel everything on bends because drivers will still see your blue lights as an indication they need to stop/ legally let you pass no matter what.
But seems most agencies just teach to cancel sirens which from multiple videos achieves nothing and it takes a few seconds to click a button to turn everything off and click it again so I don’t see why some blue light agencies especially ambulance and police service don’t teach this because the driver would clearly know you no longer want to pass on the bend if you turn all blue lights off then once round a bend or whatever flick a switch and boom it’s all back on.

It is just something you get taught in blue light training, to turn off sirens when you do not want to pressure vehicles, i.e. at red lights at busy junctions, roundabouts, blind bends etc.

Different levels of training teach different positioning, from 2:35 there was a good clear gap to position the car into P5 and to really extend the view around the corner. It'll give you a better view into what's oncoming and changes the position to the car you want to get a reaction from. Oncoming cars will then see you earlier and have more time to react and make their decisions. If there's no reaction from oncoming vehicles then just tuck back inside.
All those oncoming cars likely didn't see Chris as he was obscured behind the taxi therefore didn't give any space, note the last van did tuck into the curb slightly.

Hardly anyone goes to lane 1. I think they believe it is the truck lane or something.
I see it all the time where people will merge onto the motorway and head straight to lane 2 or 3 even, when the road is empty for a mile ahead.
Everyone looks over at the driver they are overtaking to see if they look as dumb as they drive haha.

8:32 - Makes my blood boil when I see this, but unfortunately, that's a daily occurrence on every motorway in the UK. People sticking in the middle or outside lane for no reason when the inside lanes are clear... Just bone idle drivers that can't be bothered moving lanes and it should be considered careless driving! And if you're one of those drivers who do this - a big 🖕to you.

Those not reacting to the siren should be charged with "driving without due care and attention"
