  • @cowboy10uk

    Good to see the barrier doing it’s job. Granted I appreciate it took 2 barriers to stop the truck, but considering they are not designed for a 90 degree hit and any barrier will struggle to stop a vehicle of that weight and size the fact the 2nd barrier prevented a full crossover is impressive.
    Yes it’s deflected into the opposite carriageway, but that’s what it’s designed to, deflect up to 9 ft to absorb the energy. Luckily no one seriously hurt, sure there’s a leak from the truck, across all lanes which will need tiding up, and a lane 3 closure that would of been on for a good few hrs while barrier was repaired, but all in all a good job.
    Nice catch.

    • @nomdeplume798
      @nomdeplume798 3 года назад

      The standard ARVs in GMP have been X5s for several years but we're just starting to use XC90s. The main difference is the engine. 3-litre, 6 cylinder and 250 bhp. The Volvos are 2-litre, 4 cylinder and around 200 bhp so less performance. But, l think the Volvos are lighter and mild hybrid.

  • @TheByard
    @TheByard 3 года назад +1

    The start of a crash barrier is sometimes slopped down with a concrete end piece, if a HGV goes off the road just before that point the front axle rides up on top of the barrier and the driver looses steering. Clearly some else has gone wrong in this case and with all incidents it's a chain of events that cause them. The cab of the cement bulk truck does look intact so it could be a medical issue that caused the crash. I just hope the driver is/will be OK.
    Early in the vid it did look like some vehicles on the left lane had nosed to tail, but on opening they all cleared OK. Some some good driving there.
    Did like the new colour scheme of the HEMS car, I just wonder if the driving public are aware of it, though the blue lights and sirens should give them a clue. Pity about the flat rear tyre though.
    Thanks for posting, stay safe.

      PE Energy Solutions Limited sorry but that is so totally incorrect. The ambulance crews on scene have already assessed the needs of the patient, there’s no point wasting time sending a HEMS car to do it all again.
      The car is used when the helicopter is unavailable (ie. down for repairs, unable to fly due to weather, no pilot available etc.) or the helicopter has no place to land, or sometimes if it is obvious that the patient won’t need a helicopter ride to hospital (land ambulance is sometimes quicker).

      @@jackllewellyn746 yes and no. Often the ground vehicle is there first so they do need to assess the critical nature of the incident. Yes they would be sent if the heli has no safe landing spot or it can sometimes be quicker by car. Very rarely is the heli unserviceable or there is no pilot. All shifts are covered by aircrew and maintenance is always ongoing.

      @@peenergysolutionslimited8903 you way off there mate. The hems car is sent if the heli can't fly for any reason but a trauma doctor may still be required that's when they send the car or the car could be closer and it wouldn't make sense for them to get the heli ready if the car is nearby the incident. Being a fast way to the hospital isn't the only reason hems are called they are called mostly because of the equipment and heavy meds they carry.

    Not so much a problem in day time, but imagine at night, all those warning lights flashing randomly, impossible for any approaching motorists to assess (although the MW was probably closed, its the principle that I'm on about). Now, if each EV had a set of warning lights that flashed simultaneously, instead of randomly like Christmas lights, the scene would be much easier to 'read' by any on-coming with each vehicle clearly identified and 'trackable' as to any change of relative distance. Drivers could assess the scene quickly, and react promptly with good decisions. Compare this signal for clarity and ease of tracking (a solitary ambulance, admittedly, but it illustrates an excellent design of unitary identification and easy tracking and distance assessment. ruclips.net/video/ZgkmLgh520U/видео.html

      @@999_UK Good video chap. I get the rarity aspect of the HEMS vehicle. But why do the heli team have such a vehicle, surely normal emergency vehicles could be used at night or during maintenance on the helicopter. My belief is Helicopters offer rapid attendance, that's why we have them. Curious.

      That was a bulk powder carrier, most likely cement and they work fairly local. The sleep issue is more for the long haul drivers and even then we are quite capable of driving longer hours than allowed. Take car drivers etc. who work in a high pressure environment all day, THEN drive home their day with the commute can be 14-16 hrs. Plus they could also have a working lunch.
