- Acura TLX Type S might not be as bad I thought. In this video I talk about why the 2022 Acura TLX Type S, although the slowest in it's segment, might be just the perfect daily for many people. I had the opportunity to drive the new TLX Type S for a full week and I learned some great things for this generation TLX Type S.

I almost thought of buying one…
If you don't care about straight line speed as much but want a damn good looking stylish sedan and turn heads everywhere you go, with a panty dropping exhaust to go with it, this is for you definetely. I'm about to buy a used Q60 Red Sport soon, got my 370Z for sale right now. As soon as I sell it I'm nabbing the Q60. Would definetely consider a TLX Type S in the next several years. It's a stunner and I think you'd be super happy with it. Just too expensive for me right now. My mom has a 2013 Acura TL and it's such a comfortable and nice driving car. I alot of times enjoy driving it more than my 370 lol
@@H00D_SW33PA a Q50 is a great option too
@@SamCarLegion I did look into the Q50 but my heart is set on a coupe. The Q50's are very nice and cheaper than Q60's but the Q60's just look so damn good in person to me as compared to the Q50's. The 50's look a bit boring to me. I'd definetely take a TLX Type S or even an IS500 for a sedan over the Q50. If I had the money lol
@@H00D_SW33PA the Q60 is amazing too
It’s an amazing car, everyone I know who owns one absolutely loves it.
As a type s driver since last July, I am very satisfied with it. A perfect daily drive car, comfortable and decent power. Plus a good looking car!
Has it been reliable?
Definitely my next car in a few years, can't wait for it. Don't care it is slower than it's rivals when it looks 10x as good.. Not to mention, it definitely is no slouch. Plenty quick enough for daily driving with supreme handling and AWD for winters
🫡👍
Look is subjective, I agreed it looks good, but I wouldn't say it's 10x vs the competitors. I recently checked the C300 with the AMG package and it's sexy as hell. I also wouldn't say "Supreme handling" either.
Thats what a lot of people dont get. its teched up and its definitely no slouch
Definitely not 10 times better looking than the competition. Infact I'd argue that some competition looks better. I see this car in person either on the lot or coming down the road and too me it's like ehhh it's cool it's cool looking. The front end openings as you see the car coming towards you doesn't look good for some reason. It has a presence because of it's wide stance but that's it.
@@MrVuTran Compared to it's rivals and for it's weight and size it does incredibly well, we can say that at least. A good amount of reviewers have said it feels better than most of it's competition and smaller overall than what it is which is a plus.
To me it looks better than the competition. It has more of a presence which I like. All of the cars it competes with look good too don't get me wrong, but most kinda just blend into the crowd in a sense. I don't see many TLX's around me, especially Type S. I have seen numerous M340i's, S4's, some Stingers, but only once a Type S. (I'm also in Massachusetts if that's where you are from, I am north of Boston). That SH-AWD in our winters should be real nice
I’ve had my TLX Type S since August 2021 and each day driving it is such a pleasure. Is it the fastest? No. But it’s a complete package that makes daily driving so enjoyable.
Can I ask, hows the ride quality in normal/comfort mode? Also hows the build quality? Any noises from the door panels or loose trim pieces?
@@DarthStoner It’s comfortable. I’d say the standard TLX/ASPEC is slightly smoother but that’s to be expected due to suspension differences and low-profile tires. I wouldn’t say it feels rough though as it does feel like a normal sedan for the most part until you push the throttle down all the way.
Also, build quality is great. I’ll hear a few rattles in the dashboard but only in the morning when the temperature is at that certain level like any other car. And even then it’s not a loud rattle and it sounds more like expanding which is expected.
If it was more moderately priced, let's say $4-5K less, I'd say it'd be the best bang for buck in the segment, even if FWD based, it is still a well sorted out car. Just a heavy car for what it is. The interior could also be better. TLX Type S, a Stinger/G70, and an IS500 would make for a perfect garage!
@@krylonblue I appreciate the response and the insight. Im deciding between the TLX type S, IS350, & maybe a Stinger Gt2, ill make my choice in January.
@@krylonblue I had a '21 ASPEC earlier this spring because I couldn't find a Type S. I would say the ride on the ASPEC was a little smoother but am so happy the sale guy that sold me the ASPEC told me they'd gotten a Type S in last month. Even though I took a little bit of a beating with the upgrade, I am thrilled I did. This car is a blast to drive, love the look, will be keeping it for a long time.
Kia Stinger? I hold onto cars and I don't think the Kia would be in the same galaxy as the Acura after 35k miles.
As a type S owner since March, I traded my 2.0 Accord for it and not a single regret, Fast for a daily, Luxury materials, the SH-AWD is great and plus she don’t look to bad either 😉
2.0 is faster, lol

@@xxnicksfresh401xx opps, i was thinking of A-Spec vs 2.0T, 2.0t is faster. Yea, Type-S is faster than 2.0 but they should do something with weight reduction, touche screen and back seat interior space. Everything else is perfect!
@@AZ..... yeah weight is really my personal biggest issue with the car but it’s a daily car not race car for me so not really a real problem
@@AZ..... yeah the aspec v6 is slower compared to the 2.0 due to the power to weight ratio. The aspec weights so much but has more power than the 2.0. But the 2.0 is way lighter with a turbo which makes a huge difference
The reason i want this car, honestly, is because of the reliability of it. I know that it's not faster than a turbo charged Audi but, i also know that this car will get 200k miles no problem without costing me a kings ransom to repair every time i turn around.
Exactly. People overlook this. Audi maintenence costs are more AND it will need more Maintenece.
I would choose this not just because of its reliability, but because of the way it looks and the value
Modern Hondas have poor reliability.
Can you point me to reliability statistics of this car?
get the Is500 instead for reliability or even rc350 I can see the turbos on these not lasting as long as an N/A lexus
I own one. Same color as the one here. I have the Performance Wheels/tires. I’ve added the OEM body kit, carbon fiber rear diffuser and rear deck spoiler. It’s an awesome car.
Any mods to make it faster? I’m thinking of getting one in 2023.
@@Trelobaby No mods as of yet.

I’m thinking about getting the carbon stuff too.
I got used to the touch pad on a test drive. It wasn't complicated. That's really just knit picking not deal breaking.
Sport+ wants to redline. Put it in sport mode & it should upshift
I would like to see a drag race between the Mercedes Benz E 55 AMG 2004-2006 against the todays sports sedans !!!
It keeps the revs up so you stay in boost. The Accord 2.0T is the same and I love it! I can get off the throttle around a corner and it's ready to go again. Plus, it only holds the revs after aggressive throttle inputs
I feel Acura didn't add any more horsepower for the fact that they want to balanced the performance and reliability. I mean let's be real how many of the Germans is really as reliable and your paying about 20K more.
The 10 speed auto is the reason why they can’t add more power
M340i is far more enjoyable, but also, a lot more money. But you did ask…
Still have my 2007 335i with more power than the type-s.
Did I want to buy a type-s ? Yes , but not for the price of a bmw.
The gauges made me look at something else. I absolutely hate the silver gauges with red illumination.
I went with an MDX Aspec to replace my X3. The digital gauges and newer interior with interior lighting and steering feel was just right.
Until Acura gets the instant shifts and manual gear holds correct, I’ll be a bmw fan.
@@f181234 the 10spd auto can reliably push up to 450tq in the accord, which Acura says they not only took that trans, but beefed it up as well. 100 over what Acura says the type s makes
@@mholmes9262 Agreed, but I'd personally stick with the M240i. Lower MSRP and far more performance than the type s.
I recently test drove the type-s and tbh I definitely loved the way it felt. Great build quality and quiet interior and great exhaust sound off showroom floor and the stance is sick. However, i didn't like it better than my gt2 awd kia stinger. Imo still a very beautiful and well built car.
I love my Type S. Traded in an Audi S4 for this car. It is well designed inside and out. Not the fastest, but it is better looking than most out there. I lucked out and got a PMC in curva red, number 48 of 100 built. Its a head turner for sure. Its the same price as the S4.
Definitely going to be a great used car to buy off of a one owner that never modified it👌🔥. Right now the used ones are going for a decent amount more then MSRP. Such an amazing looking, sounding, and performance is there with very little modifications🤙.
Believe it or not, there was a Tiger Eye pearl one on the lot with Carbon fiber upgrades that sold for 81,000!!

@@AcuraChannelWhere are these cars being sold at such outrageous prices? All the ones I look at are quoting below msrp.
Folks always focus on wanting to have the fastest car and never actually enjoying the car for what it is.
This car makes me regret purchasing my G70
17:09 as an owner of this car, it pains me to see you not know how to properly set the car on Manuel mode. If the transmission isn’t on “S” and sport +… also the car learns your driving behavior so if every time you put sport plus you are flooring it, the revs tend to stay around the 4000 range longer. After a while the car realizes that you aren’t trying to race and the transmission acts more like regular sport but a bit more aggressive still.
I don’t really mind that it doesn’t have a touch screen because I don’t want fingerprints all over it anyway. I prefer the busy “fighter pilot” cockpit look over the current trend toward an empty dashboard with nothing but an iPad pasted on it. And I’ll give up the useless racetrack performance that another brand may offer to get the better reliability of an Acura. I encourage people to buy something other than this car so the demand goes down and dealers stop jacking up the price.
The more time you spend with this car, the more you'll appreciate what Acura has done here at this price point. I've logged close to 13k miles now. Mods are JB4, Swift lowering springs, and sprint booster. It's a completely different animal with the increase in boost and quicker throttle body reaction. Every time I go out in this car I appreciate what it has to offer. The db suspension, shawd, torque vectoring, quick transmission (bangs through gears much quicker with jb4 and sprint booster), plus the looks. Solid build as Im OCD when it comes to interior rattles....NOT ONE. Stunning coming down the road. The Stinger, bang for buck good deal, but looks awkward imo. I believe the TLX Type S punches up in the class and should be compared with the A6, 4 or 5 series. Lastly, theres a reason why the top Formula 1 team uses Honda engines - not sure Kia will be called upon for that duty anytime soon! Thanks for the review
Agreed
Can you post vids of your car? Interested in looking at the potential!
There are many reports of build quality issues. Steering wheel whines while turning the speakers crackle infotainment takes a shit panel gaps puddle lights go out every 5 min. And this Acura 3.0t just isn’t impressive. Jb4 map6 with meth only 400whp. Every other motor in the segment jb4 map5 or 6 with meth is atleast 450-475whp in some cases 500whp. Shit the type s has been out for over a year and still not one has even cracked into the 11s in the 1/4….
@@Tsand4 where you getting this info from? Curious
@@Tsand4 Yeah I think the turbo V6 Audi's are making 400whp with just a JB4 stage 1. My hope is that these Honda motors will eventually make big power since they have forged internals... maybe a hybrid turbo upgrade can wake it up once the ECU is cracked.
The Acura will drive forever!…that is what you have to remember….I have a Honda Fit with 200,000 miles…it is amazing.
This thing is a beauty! If never compared to others in its class from a performance standpoint it would be the best. Damn shame it’s not better in performance. If it had 450/400tq it would be the bell of the ball.
It would also be 80 grand!
It's called a big turbo swap with a custom tune :).
It's called a big turbo swap with a custom tune :).
@@savedby_grace6110 Big turbo is not required to achieve 400+ hp. Tune alone is good for that. Once you start replacing turbos you're into extremely expensive projects that usually require additional mods to support it reliably. Been there done that, not worth it unless you're seriously into racing and this car is way too heavy to modify for racing. Much better choices out there.
Great review Sam. I have the standard TLX. I think the best part on these is the looks, amazing. Performance is unfortunately lacking. I added Ktuner stage 1 with PRL intake to bring up the performance. 20 extra horsepower makes it more suitable for the weight
You are absolutely right on point about the TLX Type S... beautiful body lines, is not the fastest sedan... but there is a lot, a lot of potential for this turbo V-6 that Honda/Acura built. Finally a very well said review of the car...
I want this so bad it hurts and it makes me cry to look at it at all. It’s glory. Beautifulness
This car is my on my top choice for my next purchase in about 3 years. I tend to keep cars for well over 10 years. My actual daily driver is the 07' TL Type S (Full A spec kit & the 18" wheels). This car has been amazing for me since 2014. Aside regular maintenance, timing belt and very recently a muffler repair, all the money I put in it was for aesthetics. This gives the Acura TLX Type S extra points for me. I hope it's as reliable or close to my 07. In the looks department, I think the 3rd Gen is the most beautiful TL ever made. The TLX looks fine. With some minor aesthetic changes it will look pretty good. In order to get good millage, I started driving like a normal person :) years ago. In fact I should be looking at the normal TLX :D, but I want that Type S Go, Turn & Stop extras for when I feel like it. Other options? Don't want a Kia even if its better than the TLX. The IS 350. Had me locked on it for a while until I watched more in detail reviews on it and the performance & tech is very meh. Looks great. The Germans are nice, but to expensive in the long run for me. The Civic Type R is to sporty for my needs. Subaru WRX is an option since winters in Canada...
The TLX Type S has a nice balance of the things I want. Plus I get to stay loyal :D owned 2 Accords and the 07 TL Type S I drive now.
If anyone got this far reading this: Have an amazing year ;) What are your top 3 candidates for your next car and why?
I had a 07 tl type s for about 5 years it never let me down I put over a 100k miles on ig and I loved it dearly you can never go wrong with a Acura
Acura should not make a statement that it will beat the s4. thats literally a false advertisement overall i love my type s as a daily very comfortable. just waiting patiently on ktuner :D
The Sport+ mode is supposed to hold gears like that. It will try to upshift when close to the redline, and then downshift when the next lower gear is below the redline limit. It's normal behavior for this car in that mode. It's best to not use Sport+ mode if one finds that annoying.
It feels like the car will blow up
@@SamCarLegion that’s not an issue. It’s an feature. There’s no better adrenaline rush to feel like you’re about to be blown out of existence as you floor it.
Yeah that’s not good in my books, driven many performance cars and they don’t sound like this 😬
@@SamCarLegion hahha I totally understand what you mean though. IMO the Sport+ mode is like the Track mode in the NSX. It will hold gears and keep the engine as close to the redline as possible for maximum power at all time. It works really well at a race track. But for the street it's definitely way too much!
the problem I had was the marketing acura used and how it came out so late after the competition. imo it needs to at least keep up with the G70 and stinger so 400hp would be nice
I’ve had mine for almost a year. I usually drive in sport mode with D transmission. I bought this because of the Acura reputation, looks and because it comes fully loaded. It could be faster… but usually that doesn’t bother me since I use it for going to work and back. Around here knowing which lanes are faster (where traffic always slows) is more important than raw speed.
Great review. Car is one of the best looking in its class ... Value is definitely there... Wish it was lighter by 200lbs but hopefull after market can fix that.
For your transmissions shifting woes, there's a could me a few things that could be done.
1 - Sport + is mainly for canyon carving and track duty(doubtful people will take it there) aka pushing the car hard... Not meant for every day driving, It holds the gearings similar what you would do with with a manual when attacking corners. It's annoying as hell outside of those 2 situations mentioned because of what you pointed out.
2 - use individual mode...you can choose which chassis options you like... I personally like sport handling, normal steering and normal transmission for driving every day. If I want the aggressive shift temporarily I would hit D/S button to get it on it aggressively or to engage manual mode with paddle shifters.
3 - switch to sport mode the gearing is different if I recall so don't get that aggressive holding.
savagegeese showed some Acura marketing details that showed how the Integrated Dynamic Modes works.... Hope this helps
I was just about to say all of this but you hit right on the nail. Sam was frustrated that the transmission refused to upshift (he stayed downshift but we know what he meant) when on sport mode.
Plus, he mentioned that fuel economy was bad. But in my experience it’s pretty good for a vehicle that weight 4200+ pounds. I’m regularly getting about 23mpg in city & 35mpg highway (@60mph).
I really wish Acura merged the Type-S with the Advance package though.
Yeap putting it in Sport+ and Sport transmission modes makes it undriveable on the street. But if you're going somewhere that has nice twisty curving rodes it's a blast in that setup.

I just leased one of these cars recently and when the car is in transmission sport mode (engine can be in sport or normal) it will hold the gear until you manually shift, which is really the only way to get the most out of this car. The car was a bit of a let down initially as I think it could have been lighter and have a little more power (400 hp would have been great!) but the car is actually pretty impressive as a highway cruiser and has good performance for what it is. You just have to reset your expectations and realize this car is a solid value with Honda/Acura reliability, it has good performance and it is quite comfortable but it is not an m340i killer or anything like that. It handles incredibly well, the suspension is damped really nicely and the stereo is one of the best you will find in any car! I am actually pretty happy with it! I do hope someone comes out with a reliable tune for this car soon.
I’m looking to lease one soon myself, is your lease expensive?

The TLX TypeS is not made to drag race. It’s not trying to be the fastest car out there. You have to understand what the car is and its performance. With that being said I however feel like it should be a twin turbo 3.5V6 with 400 horses. But they didn’t do that. IF you want a faster car then go buy one. This car is made for handling, around the track. That’s where it shines.
If you want fast go buy the M3/C63/RS6. All fast cars. You should never buy a car based on if it’s not as fast as another, buy it because YOU like it. Not because of what other think or say.
Sam or any other RUclipsr should never influence your choice on buying anything. If it’s my money I’d buy this or the C43AMG wagon.
People are not buying a tlx 4 door to go to the track 😂🤣😂
@@IRaoulDuke And people who can afford performance sedans aren’t doing drag races either. And yes most people aren’t taking it to the track, and that goes for MOST cars that people buy, no matter if it’s a Stinger or G70 or LexusIS500. Doing drag races really prove nothing in my opinion, if that’s the case then go build a drag racing car. However the TLX TypeS is focused on “handling”, and so are other cars like the BMW and Audi and others.
@@youngbrevy people who can afford performance sedans aren't doing drag races??? Uhh yes they are
@@IRaoulDuke The majority of people who buy performance sedans don’t do drag races that’s a fact. Some do but most don’t. Matter of fact people who buy sports cars the majority of them don’t bring the cars to the track, they drive on the highway and in the city to show it off. And that’s ok, however how many times do we see exotic cars downtown and parked up at the local star bucks or whole foods, most people buy cars for status and not to test the limits of the car. You do know how expensive tires cost and brake pads cost on a M3 for example right? IF you got money then sure track your car, but if it’s your daily driver you won’t be tracking every weekend. And that’s my point.
@@youngbrevy Testing the limits of a car should be done on a track or drag strip not on public roads and highways though. That’s how people get killed. Unfortunately not everyone seems to understand that.

Hey Sam the First Maserati Ghibli was very Slow to but look awesome ...... Make a Race... Both has Almost the same power and weight...
I love my Type-S. If I wanted something with more performance, and present, demonstrated potential, I would have purchased the Audi RS3. It is like you say, this is a great daily driver that, in the price-range strattles the fence between practical, and sporty performance. I believe that in the near future, this car will be appreciated more as an afterthought, like the Lexus LFA. Regarding the transmission and shifting, I may be preaching to the chior, but the downshifting (rev matching) is to keep it in the powerband in the Sport and Sport+ modes. Keeping the trans in auto mode, and Sport+ seems to be the most intuitive. When you try to do it manually, you will be frustrated possibly.
@@layne4376 Yes. Not the same level of car, or engineering, but I'm hoping you get the figurative nature of what I'm saying. I'm referring to how the Lexus LFA was not appreciated until much later as a whole.

I was beyond excited for this car and it would have been my 3rd Acura (I’m 24 and I’ve only ever owned Acuras), but I am extremely disappointed by its performance. For $53k (realistically closer to $58k thanks to dealers marking it up), it’s not acceptable to me that it is so significantly slower than other cars such as the G70 and Stinger. It looks so much better than those cars in my opinion but I just can’t accept the fact that the car will get gapped by every other sports sedan on the road. I’m going to get a S5 instead now unless the 2023 / 2024 TLX becomes more competitive on the road. I would also need for it to include features that those other cars have like a HUD and 360 camera (Insane it doesn’t have a 360 camera in the U.S). I would gladly pay closer to $60K for it to “fix” all of those “issues”.
Even after writing all that, it’s looks make me second guess myself all the time… it’s a beautiful car.
Looks better than the Audis, unless you're buying an RS.
Congrats if you’re buying this at 24 lol I’m 25 and make almost $100k and still can’t justify buying this brand new especially since I’m still house hunting. I’m sorry, but there are things that may be “secret” but they are in the manual. If you think it holds the revs too high, DON’T put it in sport plus. That is for corner to corner mountain carving. If you want it to hold your paddle shift command, put the transmission in sport by pressing the D/S button again. Then when you use the paddles, the display will show “Smx” where “x” is the gear it is in, and it will hold it to redline. You just have to know the details of operations, and maybe a week is not long enough.
I figured that in Sport tranny only, it works well. They should have called Sport plus “track” - I tried everything and the car will still shift for you. If you put the car in sport plus and tranny sport plus, the car seems to struggles.
@@SamCarLegion what he is saying is leave the car in normal mode and press the D/S button on the gear selector if you want to really manually shift and it will hold gears for you. In my mind drag racing is not really the best way to compare these types of cars… they are simply not designed for drag racing…
When looking at luxury/ sport sedans, this is great value for the dollar and, really is a great daily driver. If you want a little more performance there is reasonable potential for upgrades and tuning.

Explain to the rest of the world what Ok means to a canadian.... lol.. Keep up the great videos! thx..t.a
I'm not usually a fan of white cars, but I think this car looks good in white. The white/black/red combo is on point.
Acura shot themselves in the foot, pretending this was a track-ready performance car at the launch event and with all the marketing materials. The hype and expectations were too high for this car to live up to. It's not an M3 competitor or even an M340i competitor. It's a comfortable daily driver with decent performance at a decent price point and that's all it needed to be.
That’s what makes me mad, they shouldn’t have sold it as the high performance car that everyone was expecting it.
@@SamCarLegion yes Acura over hyped sadly. Still love mine. Car does track well after replacing the brake pads it comes with. I’ve heard the TLX type-s would of come with more HP but Acura cut back for some reason. I guess to not beat the civic type-r on the track lol
Id argue they didnt though??? Clearly its not supposed to be a track model since it’s NOT a Type R… Type S has always been sportier but still nice and comfortable for the road
Love your channel, hope you get more subscribers!
Meh…it’s just ok. Looks better in black. But against the IS500, I think the IS wins the beauty pageant any day of the week. I’ve seen a few on the road and the first time I saw one I thought it looked sophisticated, but now when I see one I just wonder why the person driving picked it over anything else they could’ve bought. The G70 or Stinger both deliver more bang at a similar price point and both are prettier, too.
Transmission is probably the biggest let down of this car. Honda probably didn't want to redesign the transmission significantly to handle more power and torque. This is probably why this engine is not that much more powerful than the standard V6. If they have a manual option, Honda can probably tune the engine with more power.
Take the transmission out of S (sport) mode and leave it in normal D (drive) mode if you don’t want it to hold gears at high rpm’s.
Hi Sam. I enjoyed the video, and I appreciate that you provided such a personal perspective based on spending one day with a 2022 Acura TLX Type-S. Your reflections are similar to mine as a former 2022 Acura RDX owner who has test driven the Acura TLX Type-S. What I appreciated about the test drive was a perceived notion of Acura's focus on engineering refinement between engine, transmission and especially suspension in this iteration.
I was just slightly confounded by your frustration with using "sport-mode". It's my understanding that "sport mode" is supposed to provide full manual control (at least within the confines of protecting the transmission).
That's correct. I own one, and it seems like he's confused about how to drive it. I watched a bunch of his drag races and although I expected the car to get beat, it was obvious that something was going on with the cars. I think the car is faster in drive than trying to manually shift.
I believe it looks amazing, has the best handling in its class and
Overall has very good package,
I think m340! Will still be the segment leader but this car really shines in all other aspects(reliability, resale, look, buid quality , ..etc)
It would be my number 1 choice
It just needs more power !
If it was not so heavy, I will be much faster... But I love this car and you can always put a tune
I was excited at first to see the new Type S come out. But a true race car should be light and preferably have two doors only. That’s what a real race car is. I am disappointed that Acura and other brands don’t get what BMW and Mazda get - the two door sedan is what makes a race car great. This is a little comical.
It looks great. Its built great. The problem is it is $60K USD and that gets you 0-60 in exactly the same time a Giulia 2.0 Sprint AWD does at $45K (with butter soft Italian leather seats). That is a problem.
Acura should have put that motor in the RDX.
I think that would be a better choice for sale.
this thing is like 60k and you'd hope that everything else is great if you discount the performance but i think it's in a bad price point. The stinger is too great of a deal for overall performance per dollar; i wanted one but i keep changing my mind.
I actually watched all the videos on this car and had to have it. It isn’t the fastest, but it’s definitely not slow… people compliment me in it all the time… There’s. It many out there…. There are a few tunes available in Beta right now with over 400 HP results.. This car has major potential and I love it!
I would buy this if it added… 360 cam, digital dash, wireless apple car play and touchscreen.
If you still feel that way, 2024 is your year! :)
This car is perfect.would love to drive one with mild power upgrades.
Good to see this channel moving a bit past drag and roll racing. While those are still fun, they convey so little about a car’s actual driving dynamics.
Drag races pay for the reviews 😂😂😂
Sam's always had quality car reviews on his channel. They have definitely evolved in a very good way though. 🙂
@@SamCarLegion I get it, haha.
@@williambellisIII I will be a pain and a cry baby but…in Canada we get the cars so late, also OEMs in Canada don’t like working with influencers as much, so doing reviews is not worth if you are a full time RUclipsr. Also I have a team of people to make these videos. Whenever I get them early or I really like the car I burn some cash.. :)
I absolutely love the design. I was actually planning that one day I'd get something cool like an Alfa Romeo Giulia, but I think I'll aim for an Acura TLX ♥️♥️
I’m sure as time goes on, there will be more aftermarket support to increase the performance of this car, but on it’s own it’s still a solid daily.
Ive had my type s since December and have added the factory body kit, intake, full charge pipe and intercooler upgrade, ported throttle body, 2 piece rotors and wider/60lbs lighter wheels/tires. Night and day difference. Just waiting on a cat back exhaust from heeltoe and a tune from ktuner to tie it all in
I feel like the transmission issue is because of the 6200 RPM redline combined with the 10 speed. Too many gears and too low of a redline. As is it always feels like it’s in too high RPM or too low RPM.
it’s simply because sport mode purposefully holds it to the highest gear in an efficient power band/rpm, it’s meant to be driven when in sport/sport+ not just cruising. (i own one)
Thank you!!! Acura always.
I daily one in Ontario and its a fantastic daily. As good as they come.
It's a tweener. Larger than the Germans at the same or even a lower price. Much nicer (though obviously slower and FWD based) than a Stinger. Stinger is the performance value option, the TLX is more of a luxury value option.
I guess the only bad thing I really hate about this car is you can’t have full control of the car when in manual mode. Maybe that’s due to the transmission?
I have a 2012 accord coupe v6 automatic with pattle shifters. It revs way to high first gear. Feels like you're going to blow the engine up.
😂💯
Mine won't let you do Jack in first gear, shifts right away to 2nd. I think the car is faster in regular D due to the transmission control.
Please Please.....See if you can get an RLX SPORT HYBRID.... 377 hp...341 pound torque. I BELIEVE it can compete a little better than the TLX TYPE S. Just to see one against the COMPETITION would be great !!!!!
Facts that was an underrated car that NEVER got the respect it deserved.
I love the looks of this car but I too am disappointed with weight and engine/transmission, lack of HUD, touch screen infotainment etc. I’m in the market for a new car and I’m wanting to test drive Genesis g70, Acura TLX type s and Cadillac ct5v…I thought the Cadillac ct5v was in this category as well but I’m not seeing people in chat comparing it. What do you all think of the Cadillac ct5v…I believe it has a lot of what people are complaining that type s doesn’t have ie HUD, option for RWD or AWD, more rear leg room, twin turbo v6, etc.
Coming from a stinger owner I test drove a ct5v it is a fantastic vehicle and it’s ashame it gets so overlooked. It handles easily the best in class and it’s motor/trans are very good too. It’s not the quickest but it’s not slow for it’s segment like the TLX is. Also it is very spacious. The interior may not be the best but it is still very nice.
@@Tsand4 thanks for responding! 👍🏼
I ordered mine same spec as this, in the video. I love the look .. Looking forward to it :)
@SamCarLegion The car is not going into full manual mode because you are not enabling that mode. In sport mode, you also need to press the D/S button in the center console to enable Full Manual Shifting!
My 1st acura a couple decades ago was a 93 integra that weighted approx 2200lbs..never have i imagine an acura sedan ever reaching pass 4000+lbs!
As a Integra 23 owner I just almost never use sport mode because of this problem. It’s like the car is screeching & im hurting it, like it doesn’t downshift or up shift then when I use to gears the engine sounds like it’s about to blow up so I just leave everything alone altogether for the most part. Idk if I’m doing something wrong or it’s just the way Acura makes their car, I still love Acuras but I’m starting to feel it’s mostly for looks & comfortability but it’s something about the “drive” I’m lookin for more for
Too many gears, poor MPG, terrible infotainment, laughable rear passenger leg space for its stretched wheelbase.
Looks and sounds nice though. Should be a good CPO buy 3-5 years old, at 30-50% off MSRP.
It's a nice car, but realistically it shouldn't be up against the Stinger when the G70 is the better car for similar money. Acura does steering better but it is well below Genesis when it comes to value.
TLX is a nice handsome looking car….it just needs a lot more power ….come on Acura can we bump it too 450hp
It would be something if Acura/Honda had a tested tune in their back pocket that could be flashed as an upgrade to over 400hp.....
Now what Acura should have done is put this engine with a manual transmission in the Integra Type S. That would have been something special!
have you driven the og 07-08 tl type s? guaranteed everything you hate about the new tlx, youd love about the tls. proper gearing and control of your rpms. redline it. touch screen also
The track pad took 2 days for me to go this is a con on the car to this is one of the easiest and most intuitive things I've used. Having worked for 5 brands in the automotive industry.
Sam the stinger doesn't starts at 58k. Maybe after taxs. It's starts at 50k and the suede package goes for 54k. It's the best value for money by far sport sedan\fastback in the market. I have nothing against the type S . i think it's a great car.
Maybe in your area🤷🏾 but in my area used Stinger GT2’s are priced at $52,000 and up with 10,000-20,000 miles or more. No thank you.
@@cedricyoung4974 in canada that's the price.
Except Kia is killing off the Stinger after the 2023 model.
@@avis1978 in my area(USA)that’s the price. No way I’m paying that much, $60,000+ with taxes, for a KIA.
The stinger has no appeal and will be forgotten
It doesn’t make sense why complain about the transmission if your driving it slow on the road the gear change would be fine if you raced the car around corners thanks for the feedback but it’s invalid if you got it in sportiest setting driving Normally.
So basically it’s good as daily driver. But is trash as a performance car. The thing is it’s supposed to be a “performance sedan”. Mine as well get a 2.0t if you really want a TLX. Being it’s strength is just a daily driver.
It’s not trash, it’s just not as fast as you’d expected
@@SamCarLegion well I mean the whole drivetrain is underwhelming the motor and transmission. Without a good drivetrain it’s pointless at being a performance sedan. And it’s certainly not a feather weight like a 86/BRZ that can get away with a underwhelming drivetrain soley on it being light and tossable. It’s a 4200lb car that you said yourself feels “bloated” while driving.
I laughed when you said it was easy to sit in the 2nd row as you opened the door. Who you kidding you know damn well you can't sit behind yourself 😂😂
I am on the fence about this car, the IS350, and the Stinger. Crazy timing haha.
After watching the IS500 lose to the Stinger, it being the most outdated of them all, price with current market, just does not make sense for me imho. Id rather take the IS350 and have a really nice comfy daily for less money.
Do it! I bought the 2022 is350 and it’s the perfect daily … comfortable when you want it and fast and dynamic when you need it to be…. Not the quickest car but fast enough to put a smile on my face … interior might be dated but doesn’t feel dated at all
I'm assuming when hondata is available for this vehicle, tuners will be able to disable the auto shift in manual mode. If so, redline can be increased depends how the motor feels and if any power to be made past 6k.
I love how you complain that Sports mode does what it is supposed to do.....duhr. It's called keeping you in the power band. If an engine is going to "blow up" at 5K rpm then you don't want the car to begin with. Does it really "feel" that way?
That’s not the same. Shifts are too slow and it makes the car feel like is about to explode
looks like the reviewer was hunting for a bit of drama at the end of video. Sport + will keep you in the lowest gear possible, usually between 4-5k to get you in boost the quickest...not close to feeling like the engine is going to explode and the transmission is very quick for a non-dual clutch. I set my car to comfort steering, sport engine, sport transmission.
When it comes to look Stinger wins it period! You can say whatever you want but the Stinger turns head wherever it goes! She's faster and pretty reliable! There's a lot of Stinger owner passing 100k with minor or no issues whatsoever! However, in terms of reliability and sound I will give to Type S though. But do remember Stinger was the first bold move by Kia with such performance! And they did pretty good job with it! People shitting about recalls, what cars doesn't have recalls? Even the best Toyota's have recalls! Anyway, did anybody noticed subtitle says 'Type Ass'? 😆
Never heard someone say stinger looks better then a type s 😅 they really not that pretty as the type s
Yeah the stinger isn't an attractive vehicle. My neighbor has one and people pay more attention to a mustang than it.
well that's a lie to the highest degree. Stang's are seen as much as civics. Type S is definitely neck and neck on terms of attraction for sure. Please don't mention a box like mustang
It actually does. A sleek hatchback will always win against traditional sedan style
@@SSH939 that guy does that on every Stinger post! Avoid him, his opinion is pointless by now 😂
I love the look of this car! Unfortunately it has too many quirks and drawbacks for my likings. Acura has a lot of things to sort out and fix.
like what ? its not the fastest sport sedan in the segment ? i mean if it was , it would cost as much as the m340i which in canada is starting at 78k and usually are 85k to be medium spec'd. the TLX is 62k loaded 66k.
@@cornholioyo725 in the US there’s only about a 3k difference between the Type S and the M340i these days. MSRP has gone up a couple grand almost every year in the type S. Spend the last 5 months shopping between the Type S and the M340i and ultimately ended up going with the BMW because of the lack of price difference there used to be.
@@awall02208 They are not comparably priced if they're similarly equipped. BMW will nickel and dime you. A comparably equipped M340i is easily $10-20K more. This is why the dollar-for-dollar BMW competitor is a well-equipped 330i. The TLX-S is superior to the 330i almost every way.
@@joebangaaa a well equipped M340i is around 60k(I would know, I bought one) and all the dealerships in my area are asking 57K for the Type S. For a 3k different and similarly equipped it was a no brainer for me. I shopped both cars for months before I pulled the trigger.
Unlike the Kia stinger haha but ever time u post stinger or genesis u get the most views
I do for sure
The decision tough bought a Type R but every time I see a Type S I want one but I also would like to buy the Cadillac Ct4-v blackwing which is little more powerful
Literally had this car on order last fall & my spec was: Apex Blue Exterior, red leather & Performance Wheels. But I ended up getting my deposit back & got a IS500 Launch Edition locally at msrp.
100% just anesthetically better tlx type s>s4
In my opinion the Type S isn't a bad car but the problem is that they made it a "Type S". By naming it a Type S the bar has been set too high. It can't compete with the S4, M340i, Genesis etc and those cars aren't even in it's class. The Type S should be competing with the basic 540i(335hp) and A6(335hp) but calling it a "Type S" makes it Acura's "performance variant" and it doesn't stand a chance against a M550i(523hp) or a S6(444hp), let alone a M5 or RS6. Acura should have given it a different trim name. Just my opinion.
