I picked the type s for ONE main reason and that's engine reliability. Friend of mine was a KIA mechanic and he told me stingers have very high engine failure rate. I drove both and I think the type S got it better. The only thing I don't like is the infotainment system .
@@matthewhayes5221 What? One of the least reliable in the US? That's some bullshit. What article was that? I have NEVER seen such an article and I have been following the car for years (and I'm an owner).
Eeeehhhhh, I have been following multiple Stinger forums/groups for years and nobody is reporting high engine failure rates. If anything, the Stinger's engines have been very reliable, especially the turbo V6.
The exterior looks is completely subjective, IMHO the front and rear of the TLX is better but the side profile I'd like the Kia, what the testers are missing is the build quality ,reliability and resell value of a Honda/Acura product, been in production since the early '60's and they are passionately involved in motor sports currently dominating the pinnacle of Racing in F1 with Red Bull, for me you have to take that into consideration when comparing a Brand of Honda's reputation vs a upstart Kia brand.
As far as luxury segment goes, that’s what they are. Consumer midsize sedans are the same size as compact executive sedans, and given Acura feels it’s a luxury brand we’re going with that size segmentation.
I have the 2023 Stinger GT Elite AWD in pearl white with red interior and I love it, my only concern is I don't know how it will do in the snow, I live 10 minutes from Ottawa and we have lots of snow here, ,my husband talked to other stinger owners and they say they have no problem at all... I dont know yet, might get another car for winter, any of you stinger owners ever drove it in the winter where there is lots of snow?
It'll hook up great with snow tires. You have to whip it really hard to get it to fishtail otherwise it just hooks even on a road covered in snow lol. I had Nexen snow tires on it. I had a 2022 Stinger Elite same spec actually and traded it in at Capital dodge in Kanata lol loved the car but a truck is just better for my needs at the moment.
3 thing’s reliability, resale, and quality, Kia’s have always been hodgepodge of copying design cues and just slapped together no coherent and cohesive body design language
@@SlipAngleG70 Quality. Ride. AWD system. Handling. Braking. Price. Sound. Appearance. Warantee. Reliability. Dealer experience. Service. I could go on. G70 costs more than the Type-S. I paid 54 for mine with dealer options. The G70 is more, and for an off- brand auto.
Im a Acura guy. I would laugh when I saw Acura super handling all-wheel drive at one time. I'm like who's ever heard of their all-wheel drive system and then I ended up getting a 2010 TL all-wheel drive and they nailed it. So I waited forever for this type S to come out and it finally does and I am extremely disappointed in the car. They kept talking about twin turbo and you find out single turbo twin scrawled they talked about a major boost in torque we must have way different definitions of that. maybe it has 60 more than the regular TLX At press day they had a Audi S4 that they claimed wasn't touched and the type S would beat the S4 every time. In reality, the S4 destroys it. And by the way, the K5 beats the type S in a race. They said it was the most rigid frame they ever made. There's no way my 2010 TL had no roll.. If you would sit on the back after you opened the trunk lid it barely went down at all. And when I say barely I mean you almost don't even feel that it went down at all . In Acuras own videos of the type S you could see it rolling. And on top of it my TL would hang with that car in a race The type S would beat it but it wouldn't destroy it and it should. The 4th Gen TL was the first true torque vectoring car and first true surround sound Stereo and they put bigger rotors on the back than the front so the car didn't dive down when u had to hard brake giving you better control of steering since you didn't have all that weight diving down at the nose of the car with the bigger brakes on the front. I meant brilliant engineering. I don't know what happened to him on the type S they make the hood longer to make it look like it's a rear wheel biased all-wheel drive system issue with that is if you know that you already know that and if you don't you're not going to care. That decision takes away from the leg room in the back. I'm 5'10 and I couldn't sit behind myself in that car because of that stupid move they did. I ended up getting a stinger a 22 scorpion model I'm surprised I didn't hear any mention of how great the all-wheel drive system was in the Acura since that is supposed to be I think the third generation of super handling all-wheel drive along with four steering . The only thing the type s beats the stinger in is probably the sound system but that doesn't mean stinger sound system is bad Cuz it's amazing 700 watts 16 speakers. Two subs in it. It's the first car I had that had a factory stereo where the bass gets harder when you turn it up where most will start to go away. I mean you would think there's a bigger sub in the back during some songs. But knowing ELS it's got to be little better, but I don't think the common person could tell the difference between it two. And I might have missed it. But I didn't hear you guys talk about the active exhaust in the stinger where you can open and close to two outside exhaust. if you're looking at the back of the car and how the seat grabs you when u put it in sport mode. Or the self-driving mode it can do? What they should have done with the type s is basically what they did with the RLX Sport hybrid which was in a way a detuned NSX setup kind of which was another car I was looking at when I was getting a new vehicle after I was done with that type S and disappointed. I also drove the g70 but I was not impressed with that and again that car I couldn't sit behind myself in that and when I say that that means there's no way I'd want to be back there for any period of time. And getting out of the back in the g70. Forget about it. You would have to twist your legs a certain way. It's ridiculous. At least till x wasn't that bad to get out? And I'm not tall. You got it sold me my stinger looked like you could have been in the NFL playing on the line. I had him sit his driving position and sit in the back and he was fine and I already did that knowing it was fine but I just wanted to see if I had someone bigger in the car. And the one thing that my TL did was weight and heat killed the car. I don't feel any of that in a stinger ever. How was the type S if you did anything with extra weight in the car while driving?
And thats why I still stand by what I said about the Type S was an after thought on this car. Acura isn't developing their vehicles to the same level that others do when they take things seriously. Had Kia created the Stinger on the same platform as the Optima, it would have been a failure, but Honda takes the 9th Gen Accord platform and makes this TLX and we're supposed to see it as a complete build from the ground up? No way. Older Acuras were great, the TL you've got was one of my favourites.
its simple, Acura is no longer the brand it once was. It's a complete joke, fueled by a bunch of marketing performance nonsense and now with their 1st EV vehicle, being a GM, they have said on record, that they hope their customers are completely oblivious that it's a GM product. They clearly don't give a damn about their customers, so why should anyone defend this brand of 4 vehicles? The competition has better quality vehicles, that not only have the performance part right, but also great fuel economy with better options. I'll give credit where credit is due, with all their marketing bs, the Integra-S is the only model that plays the role correctly with a proven aftermarket support and is a 6MT.
Honda has been around since the 40’s, and is the world’s largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines. They know what they’re doing. It’s 2023!!…….Ppl saying Hyundai/KIA have been improving since 2012 is hilarious. 😂😂😂
All good things need to come to an end. We discuss this in the Spotlight episode we filmed on the Stinger alone. Keeping it around past it's prime would only dilute the Stinger's appeal.
@PRNTestDrive so you believe that the stinger went past its prime in the first generation? i guess bently, rolls royce, ashton martin, bmw, and mercedes are all diluted then, since their cars have been in production for more than 5 years. Its interesting to me that you seem to believe cars dilute over time rather than being improved based on customer feedback and research (something that kia has less of than other manufacturers). I guess todays f150s are all diluted compared to the first production year for that model? Let not talk about the f150 raptor though, by now, it's diluted.
To be clear... i acknowledge that some features do get diluted over time. Like physical climate control inputs, piped in engine audio, computer nannys, and planned obsolescence. However, i would say overall that companies improve their cars for the better over time, based on market demands (even if the demand is for the car to not exist). If the stinger gets cancelled, its because not enough people were buying them, not because it was too good to keep producing, lol.
@@mintchevvv1834 Yeah, it looks like what you'd expect from a designer with a mental disability. It's universally ugly, and when I see one, I can't tell it from another ugly hyundai/kia product. The only car they build that's not hideous is the K5, and it's just so so.

2020 3.3 tt panthera metal ♥️ my stingergt2. 85,000 miles.
Glad to hear it, enjoy!
I didn’t hear one pop from the Acura. Meaning you guys weren’t driving it in sport. Of course it will feel understeery in normal. Especially on sport plus.
Car was in Sport+ the entire time, our microphones don’t pick up a lot of background noise. We each mention we can hear it during the comparison as the other is driving it.
I picked the type s for ONE main reason and that's engine reliability. Friend of mine was a KIA mechanic and he told me stingers have very high engine failure rate. I drove both and I think the type S got it better. The only thing I don't like is the infotainment system .
There was an article that the stinger is considered one of the least reliable cars in the US.
Correct, the Stinger is among the least reliable vehicles sold in the past decade. It was also discontinued so parts are gonna be hard to source.
@@Maljey sorry to burst your bubble. But it's a kia after all. And you bought one. Hahhaab
Type s or stinger 😂😂😂😂 course ((type s))
Can't go wrong with either one, I was sad to say goodbye to the Type S over the weekend.
How many 2022 Type S run 10 second quarters?
🤡🤡🤡🤡
Great video 👍
Glad you liked it, thanks!
I can confirm that a 2024 type S can be shifted into 2nd in S mode.
Good to know!
The Stinger was discontinued.
We just published an entire video as a tribute for it.
😂 I want that tlx types love the grey blue and white and the Mdx types
We certainly enjoyed our time with this TLX, and had fun with the MDX Type S last year.
Compact Sport sedans... Really?? There's nothing compact about those two cars
Thank you, first real snow yesterday, tried it out and went really good@@conwayleaf9021
3 thing’s reliability, resale, and quality, Kia’s have always been hodgepodge of copying design cues and just slapped together no coherent and cohesive body design language
Fair enough!
No drag race ?
That’s something we might be able to coordinate in future videos, obviously we’d want to do something like that in a safe, responsible way.
The stinger beats the type S in a drag 10 times out of 10.
@@dopplepopoulisand loses in every other metric.
@@Mike-lt6sj Price? Features? Options? Tech? Warranty? Hmm... not those either... what other metric?
@@SlipAngleG70 Quality. Ride. AWD system. Handling. Braking. Price. Sound. Appearance. Warantee. Reliability. Dealer experience. Service. I could go on. G70 costs more than the Type-S. I paid 54 for mine with dealer options. The G70 is more, and for an off- brand auto.
Acura>kia for reliability
Can't argue there.
Stinger for me
Can't go wrong with it!
1. G70... 2. Stinger... 3. Type-S
Fair enough!
These are not compact sedans the kia is a mid size car so is the Acura.
Compact executive sedans are midsize consumer sedans.
The Acura is bigger than the kia. It's funny how it destroys it in corners being bigger and heavier.
Front wheel drive vs rear while drive, the stinger clears the tlx in every possible way 😂
That's how we feel also.
The s type is AWD
So is the Stinger. The chassis platform is what the OP was referring to.
Until snow enters the chat. The SHAWD is superior.
That's why SH-AWD is used, so that it is more balanced and does not tend to be FWD or RDW.
They kept talking about twin turbo and you find out single turbo twin scrawled they talked about a major boost in torque we must have way different definitions of that. maybe it has 60 more than the regular TLX
At press day they had a Audi S4 that they claimed wasn't touched and the type S would beat the S4 every time.
@PRNTestDrive who told you the TLX shares a platform with the Accord? Or any other Acura/Honda??
Hi,I still have the originals
Glad to hear it!
Honda has been around since the 40’s, and is the world’s largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines. They know what they’re doing. It’s 2023!!…….Ppl saying Hyundai/KIA have been improving since 2012 is hilarious. 😂😂😂
If the stinger was so much better, why was it discontinued?
Simple. It was over priced for what it was and didn't sell well at all.
Acura = refinement Japanese =reliability Korean is building a rep. But I would get a genesis. Not a Kia. Sorry…..
Those vents on the exterior ruin the whole car for me smh
overall stinger def has the upper hand
We think so too!
I thought these were mid size not compact sedans
Compact executive sedans and mid-size consumer sedans are the same size segment.
how do you have 52% in the front and 40% in the back? man cant dont simple math
52/48 split.
Fake hood scoops are ridiculous
It's something we talked about each time we drive the Stinger. Would have been nice if they were functional.
TLX looks better. The TLX will probably be more reliable bcz its a Honda & has better interior than the Kia, which is designed by BMW
First I'm hearing that BMW had direct involvement in the Stinger.
I’m picking the Stinger ❤
I think it’ll be a theme in the comments for the Stinger!
Kia offers better raw performance but it is ugly lol
Oof!
agreed
This car is very hideous, but the straight line performance is decent. Not very good otherwise.
@@Mike-lt6sjugly… 🤡🤡🤡
@@mintchevvv1834 Yeah, it looks like what you'd expect from a designer with a mental disability. It's universally ugly, and when I see one, I can't tell it from another ugly hyundai/kia product. The only car they build that's not hideous is the K5, and it's just so so.
