This was the reaction I had last night to my first pour of 1792 Full Proof. It drank super hot. I couldn't hardly taste anything under the burn. I added a little water to it and that helped get past the inferno.

I have a bottle of Barrel Proof OF that I paid $80 for. It is good, but I much prefer OF 1920 for $55.

Many, MANY of my barrel proof favorites need a month-6 weeks of open time to be really good! Some of the best are really hot at first crack, and incredibly smooth in a few weeks of being open. 😂

Crazy how different the Barrel selects are, the Arizona Select drinks way below the proof in my opinion, it's become one of my favorite (and more interesting) Bottles on the shelf.

The benefit of a high octane like that is adding a few drops of spring water. You can titrate the flavors. Try 6 drops of water in that glass. Then come back 😅

Shout Out Central Ave Liquors in Mpls, MN. Their pick came in at 132 proof, and drank amazing! Crazy how much variance these picks have had. You should ask your place why they picked their barrel, because each store should have been sent 3 to sample and select from.
Yeah, single barrel variance is real in these. Id ask them about it but im 1200 miles away now haha
I found and picked up a bottle of OF SB Barrel Proof a month ago. Saving for a special occasion. From watching this review, I may need to add a pint of water to mine.
Just found one of these at my local Total Wine with 129.2 proof. Just burnt my face off. This one is going onto the back of the shelf till I can grow a pair.

My bottle was a little different. For instance, no sirens.
Ha! Those sirens were clearly a warning from the bourbon gods. Next time sirens go off when I open a bottle, I’ll proceed with extreme caution.
YES. I just finally opened one of these I got in NY. It's definitely hot as balls, but has equal flavor.

Growing up in Alameda, CA, I couple times I saw Manute Bol playing pool at the local bowling alley. This was a man long enough to never need a bridge while playing. Anyway, as he bent for a shot, you could pretty much say my face was indeed level with his jewels so to speak. Fond memories...

@@ADHDWhiskey Yes! Its heat is on par with a Stagg Jr. I bought back December of 2016, which never opened up in the 2 years it took to drink it. I have a serious feeling that the Single Barrel, Barrel Proof store pick will not open up.
I love 1920, but the blue label is king.
Reminds me of the bottle of rare breed I recently bought. The first few pours were hot like gasoline. lol ...but it's mellowed a lot. The heat has disappeared completely, and now I can actually taste it. Hopefully this bottle does the same for you in a couple weeks.

I’ve had neck pours from Stagg and other barrel proof whiskeys that we’re way too hot and then those bottles turned into some my favorite pours. So there’s hope. But I’ve also had a few 1920’s and JD Barrel Strength with amazing neck pours, so there’s some concern because bad high proof neck pours don’t seem to be typical for Brown Forman. Good luck!

I just picked up a bottle of this, then saw your review. I was all excited, now I'm kind of scared. Mine is "only" 125.8 proof, so hopefully a little better. I'll let you know after I give it a try.

I picked two of these up from the NB location as well...agreed with you, the neck pour is hot fire! I let it sit for a week and the air helped things out quite a bit, but still feels a bit young / hot to me. Might have had my hopes set a little too high for it.
So I'm not crazy haha

I'd love to see a revisit video for bottles that may need a second opinion down the road, like this or the Smickle, maybe time does help?

It'll get better, after about a month of opening up! My OFBPSB is about 1/3 gone and drinking nicely now and it's 129.6 proof.

I've got two of these and yea, hot is an understatement. And the proof isn't even THAT high.
I'm waiting on the one I have. Still building up to barrel proof but I've heard good things. Got a 131 proof hanging out in the basement while I enjoy BiB and WT101's.

this happens a LOT with OF barrel strength bottles. After opening, you have to let it sit for many week for it to mellow a bit

Just found the 1920 in my area for the first time (Alberta). They want $86 for it.
That's about $65 USD, which is a pretty typical price. I think 1920 is a gem and would buy it at that price.
They had it on sale for 55 in Virginia but now back up to 60

It is a Unicorn in the Pennsylvania market. The sad part is that there are are endless "tolerant", inclusive", "Cool",all at the same time bourbon haters who will call me names, disparage me, and say that it is not true. Anecdotally it may not be, but generally, in the Pennsylvania market it is true. So stop with the hate! It is on the up and coming part of the Pennsylvanian Liquor control board web site but like stupid Governor Wolfe and everything about the stupid state of Pennsylvania, normal people like us will never ever see it except on secondary, which for us will require a second mortgage.
