We entered this matchup into our blind sample pool because they're both high-proof powerhouses that have become hard to find. We typically try to pair allocated products against available products but we wanted to see if either of these stood out as anything special when tasting totally blind, and we wanted to see how they compared to each other as well. Is either worth the hype and hunt?

I’ve just begun my bourbon journey in the past few months and subsequently discovered your channel. I’ve been binge watching your videos and have found that I can really relate to Erin’s tasting notes. Thanks for the excellent content.
That's so great to hear! We try to stay as relatable and down to earth as possible and are so happy when that connects with folks. Cheers and thank you so much for watching!
The most helpful head to heads on RUclips😊🥃 I usually end up buying both😁Great episode, Josh and Erin!
Thanks so much Richie!
Love your channel keep it coming
Erin and Josh this is great. Blind tasting is the way to go! Names will influence your taste! Keep up the content!
I just picked up an ECBP batch C921 that is really good. Love the content. You are one of the only whiskey channels I automatically hit play when it shows in my feed. Keep up the great work.
C921 is VERY good, and those are some VERY kind words, David. Thank you so much! Cheers!
I recently had the Old Forester SiB Barrel Strength and loved it. Enjoyed both the comparison and bloopers. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed the OFSBBS and the video, Tommy! Cheers!
Bloopers are awesome.
Thanks so much, Chris. Sometimes we have more fun filming than the episodes can contain. We appreciate you watching!
4:48🤣🤣🤣 getting banana giggity
We picked a ECBP back in July and got it a few weeks back. Bold Bourbon flavors but like Erin mentioned, very balanced. At 133+ proof it drinks like a 110 proofer. I sure do like OF 1920 and I do have a OF BP from a local store. Sounds like some tasting is in order. Thanks for the great blind. Cheers to you.
We've found that once an ECBP gets some air into it, the proof is flat out sneaky.
Josh with the juxtaposition, FTW. 🙌. And Erin with the Back Streets Back. 🔥
C920 is one of my favorite bourbons I’ve had. So good.
All three 2020 ECBP's are really good. Passed on the 2021's. B519 and B520 are my favorites.
That’s a hitter duo right there! Can’t go wrong with either
No lies detected. We couldn't agree more, Gregory. Cheers and thanks for watching!
Have but haven’t had ECBP yet, looking forward to it. Never saw OFBSB before, glad to learn of it (1920 fan here). Keep it up, best reviewers in the ‘verse!
If you're a 1920 fan then you're likely going to love OFSBBS if you can get a pick (provided it's a good single barrel). Definitely something to be on the lookout for!
Never seen either of these in the wild in my market (chicago suburbs). Would love to have either, I'm a big fan of 1920 so I'm really interested in the Old Forester. I do have a bottle of Jack SB Barrel Proof and love that pour as well.
Here's to hoping you find one sometime. We're actually not the biggest fans of 1920 but the barrel strength version brings in more depth and darkness that we feel 1920 is lacking.
Man I love your channel. Got my first bottle of ECBP and it was B520 and man do I love it. But in Hawaii it is $90 but still worth it to me.
That's a heck of a first ECBP to get! B520 might be our favorite release in the last few years. Cheers David!
No wrong choice here. Both outstanding. That's a toughs one.
Crazy how different whiskey markets can be, in New England ECBP is pretty much 60-70 everywhere and sits on shelves
Oh man, that would be a dream! Cheers to available ECBP, Michael!
I can’t find either one of these in my NC market and NEVER have seen the OFSB. ECSB is so difficult but I have seen on the shelves years ago.
Unfortunately that seems to be the way it's going most places. Even just a year ago the availability on ECBP was so much better than it is now. Luckily there's still Knob Creek 120 proof single barrels aplenty. It's definitely a somewhat similar experience in our book.
Still have a bottle of the c920 put back just got a bottle of the b522 two weeks ago definitely one of my favorite barrel proof offerings
Heck yeah! C920 has been our favorite ECBP release in the last two years, and we just got a B522 thanks to a friend that we can't wait to crack into it! We're not expecting it to be C920 but even a "just okay" batch of ECBP is great whiskey.
Yeah it’s not as good as c920 but it’s still good I enjoy it hopefully I’ll get to see y’all reaction to it on here sometime
Always liked EC BP, can't always find them but I've got 5 or 6 different ones, buy them when ever I can. Just found the OF BP for the first time. Probably over paid for it but couldn't pass up the opportunity to get one. Have not opened it yet.
The days of available, on the shelf ECBP have dried up around here and it bums us out a bit. Hopefully it's not a pattern that continues. If it gets as bad to acquire as OFSBBS then we're in trouble.
8:29🤣that what she said!
Whiskey tasting commentary is definitely a treasure trove of TWSS content! 😂
I like the Old Forester.
i get a lot of similarities on Brown-Forman juice & JD, especially with the banana notes.
Well Jack Daniels is Brown-Forman so that makes sense.
For availability and price Elijah craig any batch barrel proof is winner in my book. Cheers
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎😎😎😎
Big, proofy cheers!
“Before me”? Say it ain’t so! 🤗
2:18🤣🤣🤣 dirty mind thoughts
Nuttiness is a super common in a lot of whiskeys. Theres different kinds tho. Heaven hill nuttiness to me is often pecan/pecan pie or a reeses cup kind of nuttiness, beam is typically just dry dusty unsalted peanuts and jack is walnut/banana walnut. maybe see if you can get pecan pie or that salty sweet semi fake peanut off heaven hill in the future. Or it could just often register as something else for you, this is based on how your smell registers as a memory.
Edit:praline is a good call. Youre learning already. also i prefer less fruit and ecbp is absolutely my wheelhouse
Nuts aren’t something either of us gravitate to in food/snacks so the blind spot makes sense. We’ve got some homework to do.
It’s funny doing the channel for this long and seeing the common theme in taste/experience preferences for both of us (earthy profile and balanced experience for Erin, balanced flavors and a complex or aggressive experience for Josh).
@@stuffandwhiskey i tend to lean towards balanced but aggressive. Tasting notes are based on memory. Reeses are the current favorite halloween candy so a lot of people can make that connection, but if thats not where you gravitate you might get something else. There are no wrong answers. Knowing your palate is more about recognizing patterns than what those patterns are.
At first I thought $70-90, way to expensive. Just remembered I just spent $74 on Smoke Wagon. Been drinking bourbon for several years mostly Buffalo Trace products, but now trying to branch out. 120+ proof… ooof!
That's a great point, Doug. With escalating bourbon prices from pretty much all distilleries big and small, we may have to start reframing what we consider "value" when it comes to many bottles (especially cask strength offerings). Cheers and thanks for watching!
as soon as she said said Craft store i assumed smells like potpourri or scented candles
Those are great parallels, AW! Cheers and thanks for watching!
Just curious, an opened whiskey is good for between 1-2 years. Are you afraid of anybody your blinds going bad being a year or more poured?
GREAT question! Our sample jars are full to the brim (no air left in the sample jar) and they're kept in a fully dark environment (inside a box that's inside a closet) in a room temperature environment. Theoretically they should last for many years with no noticeable ill-effects.
The only ECBP I’ve managed to get so far was in Franklin TN on a road trip last fall. I have high hopes I’ll find one again someday.
We wish we could say it's gettable around here but we struck out on multiple 2021 batches because of the high demand and limited supply here in Nashville. We hope that doesn't become the new norm but we've yet to see A122 and fear we may have missed it as well. Here's to hoping there's plenty more ECBP bottles in yours and our future. Thanks for watching April!
Stuff & Whiskey well maybe that’s what I’ll end up with from the giveaway tonight. I’m right in the center of the list, so who knows how it will go!
@@stuffandwhiskey Have an extra A122 I could probably spare if you've been on the hunt and still can't find one. Let me know and I'll send you an e-mail.
Just starting the video.. If ECBP doesn't win I'll giveaway my bottle of OFSB 😅
Woo-hoo!
Haha! Keep that one and enjoy it!
In any real world, c920 is a 7 or 8 minimum! Availablity making it a 5 is silly. I'm offered 2 of the 3 batches every year here in Chicago. As for the Old Forester, it's a 6.5 to 7.5 minimum. What product is an 8 in your system? Thx Kevin
Appreciate you watching Kevin, and your comment put a smile on our face because it as we say, our system isn't your traditional 10 point scoring system (where your scores for each product would certainly be more fitting). With the bell curve model, and the pours "earning" their points through the blind tasting, we hope we're bringing something new to the space.
Realistically if C920 had wowed up, it could have easily scored an 8-8.5, but we didn't know we were sipping either product. On this night they just didn't strike us as being that special or that "on target" for our personal flavor preferences. That said, in previous blinds, both of these have scored quite high (between 8.0 and 9.0).
We'll have to respectfully disagree on the availability point being a silly one. Price and availability matter to us a great deal.
I'm with Josh and Erin on this. For me there is a point of diminishing returns. I think their scoring system resonates with a lot of drinkers on a budget. My most expensive bottle is Bookers. 100 dollars in my market. It wins most of the blinds I have put it in but not all. I usually keep my purchases under 70. If you want a scoring system that doesn't take price into account there other whiskey tubers that have them. I once saw ECBP for 100 dollars and decided not to pull the trigger. Doesn't mean I didn't want it.
Oh, totally forgot to mention, if consumer metrics aren't of interest then that's totally okay and understandable. Just consider our scale a 0-6 point scale rather than a 0-10 point scale (or even 0-5 to be honest as very few things score over 5 points on taste alone totally blind). Non-blind we'd rank ECBP C920 as a 4.0 out of 5.0 (and have had a few things score a 5.0+ but those are very few and far between).
Prah Leens, baw. Praw leen
ECBP my favourite bourbon as I don't like old forester barrel proof
Old Forester may very well be the more polarizing of the two pours, that's for sure.
OFSiB=depth, ECC920=breadth.
We like that way of looking at it!
My OFBP comes in at 130proof and drinks like lava infused syrup
Oh man, we've heard that about some of them. We've yet to experience it ourselves, thankfully, but it would be a bummer to spend nearly $100 on a bottle for it to be so hot that it's unenjoyable.
@@stuffandwhiskey it’s very good but i have to be in the mood for a pour.
You want salted peanut shells? Jim beam white label!
