    Microscale makes a liquid adhesive for Bare Metal that helps it stick to surfaces better and you don't have to be pushing the BMF back down constantly.

    Hello Patriot,
    Amazon is as good a source as any.
    The foil is meant to be re-positionable. After rubbing it down thoroughly, the adhesive gets fully activated and it sticks better.

    I haven't built models in a long time but when I did this bare metal foil procedure I used a thin Elmer's glue and painted the trim on the model first let it dry and then put the bare metal foil over it and burnish it in.and the bare metal foil would stay. I never seen somebody use bare metal foil without putting an adhesive down first.

    Yes, you could. It may change the reflectivity of the bare metal, especially if you used a flat clear coat over the foil, so plan accordingly...

    Hello Bayan1905,
    The truck is from Revell. It's the 1/25 '65 Chevy® Stepside Pickup 2 'n 1 , Product ID: 85-7210

    Very nice. I have been building armor, ships and planes for years and I just started my first car in about 20 years and I wanted to try this because I want to get my first car in a while detailed as possible. By the way, who makes the truck you were working on? I happen to like old pickups (have a real one in the driveway albeit a Ford) and model trucks are next on my list for winter day hobbies.

    How old was the material you were using? I heard it looses its stickiness after a year. I just bought some myself

    how do you prevent the foil from lifting later?

    Hmmm, for about $8 you can get a 2"X50' roll of that in the form of metal tape for HVAC. Not sure if it's the same thickness, I have some I'll try out.

    • @creepybunny255
      @creepybunny255 7 лет назад +2

      It's a bit thicker than what this would be. I've recently worked on my mother's HVAC unit and shopped all around for the best tape so I've seen all that our local box stores had. 1. I think every one of them had print on them (lettering) and 2. They all were pretty stiff / thick compared to what this foil looks like.

    This DOES NOT work well with flat paint or sanded paint. Unless you prepaint trim area with thinned out white glue. I myself is getting frustrated.

    So once you apply the bare metal foil all over the areas you want to use it on, you go ahead and primer me the model? Im assuming the primer helps hold it in place as well?

    Great Video! but i am confused about what kind of foil you used. Was it a special model builders foil or other?

    • @ModelCarTips
      @ModelCarTips  7 лет назад

      Ryan, it's a foil designed for use with models. The brand name is actually "Bare Metal Foil". Some people substitute kitchen aluminum foil, and add their own adhesive; more work, but less expensive.
