It's amazing how timeless the Stoics' wisdom is. You’re right-anxiety, stress, and fear are constants across all human history. Marcus Aurelius dealt with pandemics, Seneca with tyranny, and Zeno with personal ruin, yet they showed us that the key isn’t escaping these challenges but learning to manage how we react to them. 'Is this in my control?' That question remains just as powerful today. Your message is a needed reminder that, while we can’t stop anxiety, we can use Stoic tools to reduce its power over us. Thanks for this empowering lesson!
I used to spend far too much time worrying about scenarios that just never seemed to happen. After the thing I was worried about actually happened, it was never as bad as I was imagining. I'd then think to myself, that went much better than I'd expected. Yet I'd repeat this again and again. Through discovering Stoicism I've tried to apply this. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Each time it fails I try to not beat myself up about it and try again. Over time it has helped me more and more. I suppose the practice over time has made life a little easier. I'd certainly recommend to anyone to try these steps.
The reminder that anxiety is often self-inflicted and rooted in our perceptions really resonated. Loved the example of Zeno’s exposure therapy and how we often suffer more in imagination than in reality. This reinforces that true strength lies in facing discomfort and focusing on what's within our control.
Don't be too hard on yourself ... no body chooses to have anxiety. There is a good chance that something in your childhood made you this way. I believe it happens when you are always under stress because you don't know what to expect next. Do the best you can I don't believe you can overcome it all together but the self talk can surely help.
Stoicism offers a remedy to the human condition, but much like the path to overcoming addiction, its power lies in daily practice. It is not a one-time solution, but a philosophy that must be embraced and lived, one day at a time.

Heavy weightlifting and cardio is the solution. Our minds and bodies and intertwined. To relieve the stress of the mind one must exert stress over the body. Men sana in corpre sano. Sound mind in a sound body.
Very true. A cold shower has been proven to improve our response to stress. Our stomach is our second brain. Eat badly and you are more likely to think badly. Heavy weights have been proven to retain muscle and improve bone density even in 80+ year olds too.
You can start reposting your video I used to watch it daily in morning while making coffee but now it's something it's not there on RUclips. I don't mind watching the same videos. After all it's a reminder to myself and not some tv show or movie which has an end.
I’m having a really hard time getting over the anxiety of this election. I’ll do what I can and vote blue in a red state. I having a hard time letting this go. Thank you for the video.
It's important to remember the result is out of your control. Anticipate the worst happening and how you would respond to it, how others will respond to it and the steps you might take ti mitigate any potential negative outcomes. Several stoic principles can be applied here.
@davecom3 - you are right. I have already voted and I ask everyone I meet if they have voted yet. Now I have to sit back and wait, and maybe stop watching the news.

Sometimes, the anxiety is not about a possible FUTURE moment, but the actual moment you are IN! Overanalyzing the body language or thoughts of the person next to you. Just saying 🤔🤷♀️🙃
Worry is anticipatory. When we aim to make a good impression on someone or if someone arouses suspicion, we are worrying about future interactions with the person or worrying about possibilities of being in their range of transgression.

I am stoic, and I really liked Ryan until I found that he wants hundreds of dollars to sign up to his website. He's not very in line with stoicism in this aspect in my belief.
How about not supporting a presidential candidate that advocates for abortion up until birth? Marcus would be disgusted to know someone like you were profiting of his teachings.
Hi dear, there is a tiny chance that you will see this, but your videos help me in my fight to stay calm. I just want to say thank you.
Marcus Aurelius's quote: "You have power over your mind-not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."
I hate to break it to you, but you don't have control over "your mind" at all. It does what it does. You having control is a miss perception.

I know this sounds dramatic but this episode made me emotional. I’ve never felt so understood in my life. This ep. Feels life changing to me.

It's amazing how Stoicism encourages us to accept things as they are. Very enlightening!
Which is exactly why Ryan is not a stoic.
Thank you for the insightful content! It's great to have a community that loves Stoicism. 🌟
Great episode, Thank you Ryan!!

We must also question, how has anxiety helped me? As Robert Green says, it is essential in some of its forms.

In that moment, ask yourself “am I okay? If they don’t agree, approve or like me am is life going to end for me?”
At that point it’s “Distress” because it’s a present moment thing
