I been doing this a long time and running 0-20 or 0-16 in a hot climate is insane. I bought a new Toyota that wanted 0w-20, first oil change I went to 0w-30. Thin oil may be great for the lab so auto manufacturers can meet greeny requirements, but if you want your Toyota to run 100K ++ (especially in a semi-tropical zone) you better get some thicker oil.
The difference between the A and B is a is backwards compatible and the B isn’t. The owner’s manual says to use a thicker oil in hot or serve use they just don’t give the weight range like they use to
ILSAC GF-6 will be split into two subcategories: GF-6A and GF-6B. They will both exist concurrently as different standards, one doesn't superseded the other.
I'm searching on youtube to find out if I can use 0-20 in my Fav 4 instead of 0-16 and have been guided to your video. Never mind if it has a triangle or a circle, do you know if I can use 0-20 in it instead?
If you haven't already, look up Car Care Nut, he has great videos. Basically he explains that many new Toyotas use electronic variable oil pumps that are calibrated for a specific weight. You can go up to 20 in a pinch but next time get 16. My Corolla calls for 0-w08 but I'm using 16 as 8 isn't a available in my area right now. Next change I hope to find 8.
If your vehicle is sold in other countries, just look and see what they recommend and say Europe and go with that opinion do not go with cafe standards
Luke, thank you for making a video like this. I’m new to the research about 0W-16 oil and the news that “Full Synthetic “ on most oil brands is NOT 100% synthetic oil. So thanks again for putting the information out there.
I’m using Mobil 1 with the shield you showed. It’s like $28 for 5 quarts. Valvoline is like $42! Why so much more? I wish Costco Kirkland brand would make 0W-16. Valvoline and Mobil 1 seem to be the only name brands to make it unfortunately 😞
Kirkland, Amazon and WalMart buy in their oil from one of the major oil producers, it can be that they do not want to sell the new GF-6A oil as yet to discount distributers under a different name than their own.
Many brands, but only Mobil 1 0W-16 sold at Walmart. 0W-16 available online: Penzoil, Motul, Royal Purple, Liqui Moly, and others. Mobil 1 is best in freezing cold weather. Genuine Toyota even better. I wonder if Royal Purple is good for hot summer.
@ I think you into brands too much. I would never buy Toyota oil. Just too expensive on other brands they’re easily available. Toyota oil is no better than any of the other oils in my opinion. And that only applies if you changed it every four or 5000 miles. That’s why I think using royal purple is a waste of money. Just find a good quality oil like Kirkland and change it every four or 5000 miles. You won’t have to worry about any problems regardless.
Check the owners manual....if it say´s you can use a 20 - 30 - 40 weight if the 0w16 is not vailible then you can go up to a higher grad with no harm to the engine. If it say´s "USE ONLY 0W16!" then you better stock up! Don´t be fooled by BRAND NAMES and so called GARANTEE! They all meet the API Standard and the High Milage Garantee not worth the paper it´s printed on.

Go off of what your car requires. If you pop the hood on the engine cap it will tell you what the required weight is.

Use AmsOil oil .
You're is how "you are" is abbreviated. Your is a possessive term only. I almost didn't click due to the nonsensical title.
