What make stories great.
Everything Dysney doesn't want to put in its movies because they assume their audience is stupid.
Praise the fans who try to makes actual good content
Congratulations.
All that you said was true.
I loved how he threw the gun away at the end, proving such a disdain for the very thing he used to kill the one he cared for. What great attention to detail! Great job!
I totally agree. One of my many favorite moments of the film. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it! Spread the word!
@@shirleyjordan4998 Nicely done. As a fan since 1977, thank you for continuing my journey through the SW Universe. Remarkable work!!
@@shirleyjordan4998 fantastic job with your acting. This was awesome. It was sad, but had so much story and emotion. Just amazing.
A SW fan film with decent writing and actual acting??? I am shooketh. Love it!
Aviel Mann Ballo .. and not in a forrest for a change! Loving it too!
And no big group of people who all wanted to play the jedi and swing a light saber
Watch ( Birth of a monster | a star wars story). That's a decent fan made film
A lot if not most star wars fan films are pretty good ofc the acting isn't great and costume design isn't ground breaking they run on a shoe string budget but you can obviously tell they're just kids wanting to fulfill their imagination they just want to make the story they never got to see no need to put them down
@General Grievous you sure it isn't cuz you replied needlessly aggressive but whatever dude have a nice day
It's a small, simple story of a student and teacher at a crossroads. The kind of story that could be easily told on any setting or time, but still fits into the Star Wars universe perfectly. Well done.
Ok I've seen a few of these. They all reley on cheesy light saber moments and everyone is a legendary Jedi.. this is by far the best use of star wars lore on here. Not every story in star wars is about lightsaber duels and being a fight to the death hero. The rebellion is in us all who are willing. Awesome job. This is perfect example of "less is more" I believe George Lucas would be proud of this.
Lucas would hate these there are no potential to toys to sell to children. Emotions and stuff no cgi.
_"They all reley on cheesy light saber moments and everyone is a legendary Jedi.."_
Well, clearly you haven't watched too many if that's all you've encountered.
@@TrapnestShinigami No, I think Justin's assessment is pretty much spot on. Unless you're a shut in and this is all you do. Easily 80-85% of fan films involve Jedi and Sith and tests and betrayal and it gets pretty repetitive. There are some really amazing ones, so it's not entirely bad, but it does seem to make up a large percentage.
@@tylerskiss I'm sorry but that's just not true, and you telling me this just as *Birth of a Monster* is blowing up doesn't really help your argument.
I think the notion of _"Most Star Wars fan films are about light saber fights"_ is a pretty dated one. There's *Bucketheads* , *Odyssey* , *A Smugler's Trade* , *REBELBASE* , *Stormtroopers* , *REBEL SCUM* , *The Lost Patrol* , *TK-436* , *The Lost Starfighter* , *Tie Fighter* (Animated), *Jakku First Wave* and many more.
If you think _"All Star Wars fan films are about light saber fights"_ then you just haven't watched enough of them. It's false that _"About 80% of them are about Sith and Jedi"_ and it makes me sad that you would fall for that old myth about Star Wars movies.
On the other hand, it makes me happy to encourage you to watch my suggestions, because you'll find out there's a lot of love for stories about rebel soldiers, pilots, stormtroopers and recently a monster on a desert planet. They're made with so much love and passion, and saying all fan films are _"Sith/Jedi fights"_ is doing a disservice to the community and those amazing films that have nothing to do with them. Look em up on your own time and I sincerely hope you'll enjoy them :)
@@TrapnestShinigami BoaM has sweet fa to do with my argument (for lack of a better word). I can just point to observational statistics: flip through a bunch of SW FanFilms on RUclips at random and if you are honest with yourself, you'll notice the breakdown of the videos slants heavily toward the lightsaber fights over the more unique stories. Is there a chance your statistics will come up with an anomaly? Of course, but I just did it with 10 videos right now and every single video I got in this particular chain had a lightsaber duel as its main showcase.
I think an important detail to point out is I don't consider it a problem in any way. Heck, one of the videos I saw had amazing fight choreography. The quality of the FanFilms I'm seeing here is pretty amazing!
This fan film is above all others. The acting, the camera work, it’s all amazing! I wish it was a full fledged movie ):
Thank you! Hopefully one day!
@William Patterson the Darth Maul fan film and SWT's Vader Shards of the past are both brilliant for what they are… I.M.P.S., Scout, sooo many good ones...
but this one…
your wording was perfect!!!!
"...has a particular uniqueness to it."
Cool, perhaps it can stand as an open expansion to build more on...
everything is par excellence. the director of photography deserves major kudos also!
Better than the cheap Vader/Maul ones, for damn sure.
sometimes the simplest things are the best things, this was done without multimillion dollar set or animations, just a few actors, simple props, and some stellar writing and acting. Please don't ever stop making films of this caliber.
No crappy lightsabers. No Jedi. Just real people caught between two worlds. This is something lacking in the Star Wars...people in the Empire who aren't cartoon villains.
The Empire's villains weren't always so bad.
I mean... have you watched Tie Fighter, First Wave or Bucketheads?
You clearly haven't watched enough good fan films.
As long as they keep the ideological conflict theme going it´ll help star wars maintain it´s identity
@@TrapnestShinigami I enjoyed Lost Squadron as well.
Exactly. Substance, not flashy special effects. Believable plots/ characters drive a movie, not the glossy wrapping.. something Disney has missed on lately. Pandering isn't plotting a story arc. RIP Star Wars.
This, is Star Wars. And a damn good short. It reminds me of the feeling I got from the first Star Wars Trilogy when released. I did not want it to end, and I wanted to be a part of it. Bravo! I wish Disney took Star Wars this serious.
Thank you! Hopefully Disney will see it, too!
You nailed it damn well ! I did not want it to end, and i wanted to be a part of it!
One of the things I love about fan-films is their ability to tell new stories without the need of a Hollywood mega-budget. "Days Past" does this with exceptional acting, instead of flashy visual effects, and for that, I can only give my strongest congratulations. In fact, I am adding "Days Past" to my personal list of fan-films that I include amongst the official productions when I do a Star Wars super-binge.
Congratulations on a superb production!
Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words.
It's good to know that I am not the only one that watches fan films as part of a Star Wars binge.
And we're glad that you do! Thanks!

Pangaea Writer Because it follows a simple rule: Without a story, there is nothing to it.
I know these videos kick ass... can I be an actor in one
The way he throws away his blaster at the end in shame and anger tells it all. Very sad.
Three suns and still darkness can come.
Possibly the best fan film I've ever seen. For once, it's not a home-made special effects expo. Just two people with an excellent script giving excellent performances. This is so well done. What an achievement.
The acting in this is outstanding. It takes something special to achieve an extended dialogue with two characters that, despite their opposing viewpoints, still have a rapport. You can really feel the existing relationship between these two despite not having any actual shown background.
Now THIS is a great example of how Disney can start making their anthology series in the star wars universe far from all the trilogies movies. Excellent shortfilm!
This is pure art. The ragnock, the trinkets in the hut, to the dialogue, the acting, and the three suns telling us it's not Tatooine... I'm lost on words.
I'm with Dewback Discussion, and I'm doing a full review on this, and we would love to show fanfilms on our website and at conventions. So I want to ask your permission for Days Past. Of course we would not monetize it in any way.
Much love, Joel
I just about cried... This is one the most amazing fan films I've seen in such a long time. The emotion and tension, the feeling of friends for ages being split down the middle- everything about this is so amazing
R5 unit As one who in 1977 (at age 16 years old) walked into a local city theatre and witness the magic of The Star Wars (a new hope) I stand in amazement at the high quality of your work! I had great hope for TFA and TLJ but I was deeply disappointed with both! In spite of the millions of dollars and the great pool of talented artist they had at their disposal, both came short of the mark yet you have shown us how it can still be done right when talent is applied in the right context. The light in the eye of the R5 unit in the end credits was a nice touch! Well done everyone! The Force is strong with you!
Wow, this was not your average fan film. It was unpredictable, well thought out, and had a very compelling storyline until the end. Looked very professionally done. Good job!
Nick Desautels thank you for watching!
Shirley Jordan did a fantastic job! An excellent actress!
I so appreciate it! Thank you.
I've watched every star wars fan film I could find... This is by far one of the best I have ever seen! Well done!
Gibberidude thank you!
I agree.
Just about the only one I've ever seen that's not a setup for a lightsaber duel in the woods. Nice.
UOU
Gibberidude same
My congratulations to all involved. Fine choice in story and very well acted, in just these few minutes you managed to bring these characters to life and make them matter.
Well done...
Been reading a lot of Star Wars books lately, and this is like a book scene come to life, with that drawn-out stressful feeling sorta like Inglorious Bastards intro scene, (&I loved that the characters had history) -Well written.👍🏻👍🏻
It's refreshing when creators take a different approach to a SW fan film.
Be proud, fine work. I enjoyed this very much. 👌🏻
Slav Tino Thank you very much! That's exactly what we were going for and we really appreciate your thoughts!
I just went on a trip with all of my star wars books rain rain it got into my tent the water was till my knees when i realised fuck my books are destroyed
OK seriously? How did you make it this good? I have literal goosebumps. Where did you find the actors? That was amazing!
Thank you! It was a lot of great people coming together. Not enough can be said about how great our actors were! They were amazing.
I just don't get it . It was an amazing fan film that seems to come from the heart . I can't say the same thing for Disney , they can't get anything right and you do it for probably next to nothing . Excellent work .
Haha, such a rediculous comment
@@BarbRogersMs.SolarTerror If there is any one movie that I do think Disney did right and proper, it was Rogue One...which is, as someone who has loved Star Wars since he was a kid in 1977, my all time favorite Star Wars movie.
@@martok2112 R.I.P the wonderful woman who led that project.
This is amazing. The acting is phenomenal, the story is arresting, the sounds and effects are perfect.
Tt Tt thank you!
This has always been Star Wars for me, small stories of ordinary people going about their very lives pulled reluctantly into the war between the Empire and the Rebellion/Republic. This is what was needed in the new trilogies. Well done
Ok! I rarely comment on anything on RUclips... but this was really, really good. Loved it!
Thank you!
Perfect. Not massive visual effects or over the top duels like you normally see in fan films but a great story.
The little furry Lizard-Thing at the beginning is ADORABLE.
It was made by one of our actresses! The actress at the top of the film who I hug just before they run off.
The acting was certainly impressive, the staging to cover for a limited budget was clever (almost theatrical, and I could see this performed as a stage play), and overall direction was admirable. BUT...
I would like to make a point of complimenting the writing. You did an exceptional job of the writing. The dialogue, the tension, the inferred exposition, the character work, and the structure. All very adept and engaging. Kudos to you.
Due to current movie costs for a ticket, I will pay double the cost of a movie ticket to see this as a stage play.
A long time ago, in a galaxy.... that’s the problem with the current Star Wars, everything seems to happen around the same corner, with the same characters, milking the tit of nostalgia with forced non necessary cameos. This short was amazing, this is what I (we) want to see, the Galaxy of other characters, conflicts, without the over the top use of lightsabers, mystical bull#¥&. This short was far more interesting than all the stuff Disney has released.
This short fan film was exceptional. I loved how it's shows why even Soilders of Imperial Army had reasons to turn against the Empire.
This deserves SO many more views! Amazing film!
So spread it to the people you know. Especially with what Disney's done with the series lately. >(
Very well done guys, good acting, good camera angles, music on point. Story very deep. Very good facial expressions by both actors. Good job!
Excellent acting. Excellent writing. These people should be working on a full length movie the license it from whoever holds the rights then split the profits.
Love the way you think!
Shirley, you are a star!
Love the short film and you in it.
We agree, Shirley is incredible!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
I liked them both and is it just me or does Laim Cronin kind of resemble Grant Gustin form the Flash
Steven Espinoza I think he very much resembles Kevin Bacon.
Shirley Jordan: You are brilliant. It's the first fan film I've seen with 10/10 acting and 10/10 script-writing. It's the first time I've had an emotional reaction to Star Wars since 'order 66' was executed in Revenge of the Sith. You literally are a new hope. My hope is that Star Wars will be forked. Let Disney continue with their version of the franchise and let the fans go forward with theirs. I would love to see more of your character ...somehow. Anyway, again... just brilliant. This film has affected me and I'll be thinking about it for a long time. Thank you!
Great, great film.
Wow.. this was really great!! The acting and emotion was amazing! So much work was put into this. Thanks for sharing!
A film that has a moral to it. Very nice to the point that I just simply love it.
This was honestly so creative and didn’t rely on lightsabers and jedi’s like so many other Star Wars fan films
Arron and his crew were pretty amazing, to say the least. It was pure joy to work with them.
A lovely short film with very moving performances from the main actors, real people and not the cardboard cutouts that some of the Disney films are producing. I look forward to seeing more of Side Project Studio productions!
i-it's nothing.. just something in my eye 😢😭
(this was incredible. the acting and everything about this is beautiful but very sad by the end. such a great job!)
Thank you so much!
why was this made? , an , more importantly; is their nothing else?
That was more dramatic, well written, heartfelt, and gut wrenching than anything I've seen from any fan film. Hey, Disney, take lessons on what real writing and acting looks an sounds like. I absolutely adore it as much as it breaks my heart.
It's like one of this epic moments in a star wars movie finally gets the time and acting it deserves.
This is how I watch Star Wars. Duality, Crossroads of Destiny, Contract of Evil, Darth Maul Apprentice, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, The Clone Wars, Revenge of the Sith, Quiet, Days Past, Revelations, Star Wars Destroyer, Rogue One, A New Hope, Rebels, Broken Allegiance, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi.
rebels is before rogue one
I put Solo in there after episode 3.
You're going to have to work in Vader: Shards of the past
....you included the sequels?
The Last Jedi ??? its not good enough to be on the list at all.
A Star Wars homage to Inglorious Basterds... impressive
DOPE!!! Better than any Disney Star Wars film........! Good work all! Excellent acting!
How isn't this better than anything Disney has put out, this was fantastic!
You guys are awesome♡
This is what happens when you put your heart into what you are doing.
manko 88 thank you so much!
holy shit that was so powerful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 the way he screamed halt - i literally put my hand over my mouth. oh my god this is far and away the best film i've ever seen!
Thank you so much!
That actor had the perfect emotions and subtle facial movement to convey exactly what he needed to convey, Jesus Christ where did you find that actor? He should be in a lead supporting actor in a major big budget film already!
Phenomenal fan film, the list of things I love about it goes on and on. The puppet in the beginning was hilarious, you actually remembered the shadows of the ships flying overhead (a minor detail a lot of fan films miss, it made this one a little more real), the cinematography was brilliant, I love the texture of the film and the hut with random stuff everywhere. It felt like a real, lived in desert hut and not a set. The little scrapped together bits of technology like the meditation bowl projector gave the film a really Star Wars feel of decay. The characters were brilliant and human, it was refreshing to see it about characters other than jedi and sith (though I love those as well!), it didn't feel forced, I was genuinely moved by the ending. It was very human and very inspiring- keep up the amazing work!
We all thank you for your insight! it was truly a labor of love, sweat, and tears.
This was beyond fantastic... didn't even have to be Star Wars but that air of familiarity really gave it something extra.
Love it! There is more character development in this short film than there is in all 3 prequels. Very engaging dialog between Valera and lieutenant Doz.
Wtf? Are you serious? The transformation of anakin as a small slave boy to Darth Vader? And this film? No one developed... The lady stayed the same way the whole time and so did the guy. Your comment is disrespectful to Star Wars as a whole....
All I can say is, wow. Amazing fan film this one and by far better than any big budget film maker could have ever produced.
Lisa winn thank you so much!
Note: The importance of *story*. A story told simply and quickly, yet completely.
When Hollywood companies forget how to make a story!! basic movie making!! where is Europe cinema and comic inspiration when you need it!! We like action but is not only about action and Special effect , is about the story! very talent making!! keep going people ! bottom up for the win!
Jim Lianos 👍👏👍 100 💯 as an aspiring writer myself
Wow...best one yet! Writing and acting were superb!
He had to prove it to her, that even when he's on the other side, he's willing to sacrifice even the closest to you to uphold your duties. The insult that he wouldn't do it himself got him deep enough to make him do it. Beautiful work.
To quote Lord Vader "Impressive, most impressive".
Thanks, Eric! We appreciate it!
Wow, very nice. Something different yet suspenseful and unpredictable. Well written and well acted. Loved it.
That was incredible! The use of sound, items around her hut, and music enhanced the emotional drama. Chills at the end. Fine work. Disney should take note and learn. Consider writing and submitting a book. I'm sharing this with friends. It's a difficult time for Star Wars fans, but projects like this keep the spirit alive. (From a business standpoint, Disney should not feel threatened by fan projects, but in fact embrace them as they help fans stay connected to the franchise.)
It took me forever to find this video again. I’ve always thought it was the best fan made film I’d watched because the dialogue was so good.
Most fan films rely heavily on little dialogue and lots of light saber fighting.
This one is very reminiscent of what Andor is, just great storytelling.
A sad story but hey I liked it. I read the comment section and saw that Shirley was there. Hey good acting on there and please let us know if you will post another short film. It's nice to see the stories where it isn't all Jedi and lightsabers and hocus pocus. This was very down to earth and one of the little stories you don't usually get to hear about aside from the mainstream. Again, great work ma'am 😀
Thank you for your kind words dixee6. So glad you enjoyed our film. Believe me, the talent behind the scenes was even more spectacular! And I so enjoyed working with Liam and Aaron. I hope we do many more!!
I'm reviewing fan films on my youtube channel for a year now, and I need to tell you that this one is one of the best I have ever seen ! I'll recommand it on a upcoming video if that's ok for you ! :D
Absolutely! Thank you for the kind words!
Thank you who really did a great job ! You and all the team can be very proud of yourselves !
Damn must be good for you invoke a recommendation and a command to watch it..
Star Wars Fan Films that are not shot in a forrest ....instant like!!
I like the use of the prayer bowl...
A sad story, but it shows how brutal and mechanical the empire is.
Beerenmüsli Do you see any correlation between fantasy Empire and real USA Armed Forces?
Awesome video keep it up!
I really love these types of STAR WARS stories. Very organic!
Coming across Star Wars films more and more lately and they're so good. This one is no exception.
Wow. Such a good film. The series would do we’ll to have more of these movies showing the human aspect of the Empire.
Great short film! Thank you for sharing. Hope to see more! Would be really great, to see one day something like this become a Netflix show =)
where this shines is the story, the dialogue, the amazing tension, the unpredictability, and great use of minor characters to flesh out the Star Wars universe
This fan made short is probably the best use of the universe surrounding the movies I've seen. Shows more depth than the usual "saber fight/space fight/blaster battle/imma jedi!" pap that seems to be de rigueur for most of the SW fan films.
I can tell that it's fan-made, but kudos for making one of the most high quality fan films I've seen!
First of all, I must say that I am so happy to see a Star Wars fan film that is not about a random lightsaber fight in the woods. Here we have a simple but very well-written story involving characters with a clear past, believable motivations, and sympathetic emotions. Shirley and Liam both did very well together, and their acting was top notch for a project such as this.
A few minor complaints: When John Williams created the music of Star Wars, he used motifs. These are musical cues which accompany certain characters, situations, ideas, planets, etc. So then it's a bit strange to have a really slow version of the Yoda theme playing during the first few minutes of the film. Neither Yoda nor anyone or anything associated with him appear. Also, the three suns at the end seemed like a bit much, and it's quite unrealistic. Binary star systems are actually quite common, while a triple star system is considered extremely rare.
But besides this, I very much enjoyed the film and all the obvious love and hard work behind it. Looking forward to seeing the next project from you!
Many thanks!
Maybe the 3rd sun was an early rising moon.....
M. Strain Jr. : Yes, I noticed three suns, perhaps want to establish this wasn't Tattoonin.
This is a great film. There have been some great one-act plays that are pretty much a vignette between two characters, where much of what you take away comes from a mutual past that's only hinted at - and that's what we get here. Well done!
Much appreciated!
An excellent, thought provoking piece. What if...?
Very well done!
Way better than what Jar Jar Abrams and Rian SJWson gave us.
this was refreshing, great music. nice tone
I've watched a lot of Star Wars fan films in the last few days and this is by far the best yet. It looks wonderful - the attention to detail with things like the worn Stormtrooper armour is spot on. The acting and cinematography is great and the story was interesting and compelling. Really really good job
I absolutely loved the characters in this fan film! I thought that the acting was very well done! I loved the story, the writing and the implications surrounding the Captain's thoughts. Bravo I can't wait to see more!
Damn, this is good...great job!
*I Think You Did awsome at this! Put all of effort in this.. Good Job!*
This is by far a note worthy SW story I want to see. It shows the conflict of what comes with duty as apart of the Empire’s Navy. It humanizes the challenges during that span between the republic and the Empire. ❤️this.
Wowwwwww!!!! This is by far my favorite fan film. No need for cgi fluff, this had emotional content that kept me glued to the screen.
Well done! Good short script and engaging acting.
Amazing film!!! Fantastic acting, would love to see you guys in a legit Star Wars film ❤️
This wasn't legit?
Fan films......the possibilities and side stories are endless I would love to see more! Absolutely amazing.
I like that it's not some crazy galaxy changing story with some big name jetii with another light saber duel. Very cool film.
Best fan film ever made! Great acting..actually much better acting then any of the Star Wars movies so far! Well done!
Shnickers123 thank you!!
😢
Damn, this was truely deep.
One of the more real star wars fan films ive scene.
Alot if substance and well done.
I am moved. The usual "Star Wars" credits were not present. Which is a huge plus. Just two people caught on differing sides. Truly a great film.
Rian Johnson, take note, this is how you make a film with drama, suspense and an ending that leaves you thinking and at the same time wanting more. thank god for films like this, i would leave star wars if it was left to hollywood
Nice puppet at the beginning
Director's cameo. LOL
Lane Gallistel I think they included animal because she mentions creature not native to planet, but learned to adapt just as she changed from Imperial officer to collaborater of the rebellion.
Awesome work Shirley...you are an amazing actress. Looking forward to seeing you on the Big screen.💙❤
Thank you, Bridgette!
This fan film stands out from so many other fan films and in a way, the Star Wars films themselves, in that it is pure story. No dogfights, no sabre duels. Just story. So very, very good.
This fan film is incredible. Great writing, acting, sets, and a changed-up venue from what we usually see from Star Wars fan film stories (usually combat heavy).
You have given so much depth and nuance to these two characters with such a small amount of time. I'd argue that this is better than ANYTHING Disney Star Wars has come out with (especially in terms of depicting an Imperial officer who believes in his cause) and everyone who worked on this should be absolutely proud of their accomplishments here.
This is Star Wars. It has heart, characters, and drama that's all earned.
Great film, one that has taken the emotion and put it back into the film. If the writers of the cinematic Star Wars universe could put this back into the acting of their movies, they would be back on par with the old franchise versions and not this junk as of late.
Dustywitch thank you!
Holy shit! you can really appreciate the seriousness of the situation
I've been thinking about the tone and production value of Andor and it made me spend an hour Googling for the title of this fan film I first watched 4 or 5 years ago, but has stayed with me since. Forgot the title but never forgot the script or performances. Thank you for really knowing what types of stories can be told in this universe.
This is really good, and I feel it depicts how the Empire used their up-and-comings to do the dirty job on «the little people», thus enforcing their terror regime. Great script and superior acting!!
