A concise and accurate portrayal of tai chi history, form and applications. Really a beautiful piece of work.

Myth shouldn't be equated to history though

@@RobertESharpe The idea that Bodhidarma taught martial arts should be presented as just a story, not as an actual historic occurrence. Zhang Sanfeng should also be introduced as a legendary figure... those are just a few things to be pointed out.

I was just happy to hear my 64 movement form get mentioned at around 13:00. It's usually passed over.

Good effort putting this video up. That man, wow, he made it look like
so easy performing tai chi like that gracelessly, standing so tall with
so little stance, effortlessly moving so little of his waist. No disrespect. Maybe he
can acquire Qi in his dantian with so little effort. Maybe he didn't bother.
My friend practised for 5 years, and always have to be corrected. But I discovered he had
acquired Qi and was surprised when I told him. I found this out after I
watch him perform and when I place my palm on his dantian and side.

      1. According Chinese researchers and the Chen Family as well as extant records Zhang san feng during the Ming Dynasty he was recorded as an immortal wanderer of the Taoist religion and no mentions of him as a Martial Arts of any kind. With the exception of Wang Zhenan which is proven to be a hoax(due to the writings mentioning fictional characters from the Water Margin novels along with names of Emperors in incorrect era and dynasties)
2.I find it somewhat sad people still bring up the Shaolin connection as the first mentions of him and Shaolin and the name Jun Bao is from a famous FICTION wuxia novel by Jin Yong called the Heavenly sword and dragon saber in 1961. No mention of Shaolin and Zhang San Feng before that, not even by the Taijiquan community at the time.
      3. Curiously no martial artist including Wudang stylist ever mentions him along with Martial Arts prior to the 20th century. Most people assume the legend spread from popular novels at that time and adopted by Taijiquan teachers as a way to beef up the history of there styles as was the norm in Chinese Martial Arts.
(Example, Yue Fei is claimed to be the founder of, Xingyiquan. But then is also claimed as the founder of Northern Eagle Claw, and Yuejia Quan,Fanzi quan and Chou Jiao, none of which is remotely resembles the others...
And YUe Fei's life is VERY well documented by the Song dynasties in offical record and his "Martial Arts teacher" Zhou Tong a famed Archer and Archery instructor and nothing else....
Like I said it was common practice to attribute famous figures as the founders of such and such systems.
You should read the book "Ignorance, Legend and Taijiquan,"

constant bombast and hoopla. Tai chi is based on the movements of the bear and the footwork the vibration of a string. two fishes in eight is a Chinese manifestation of a sine wave diagram.

The history of Budhidharma and Shaolin isn't correct. Its a myth trace back to a 17th cent fiction manual.
Good effort though for the video.
