Chenjiagou has changed so much since i visited it together with my children in year 1998. It's so modern now. Way back in 1998 it took us 8 hours in a rickety public bus to ride from Zhengzhou to Wenxian; a distance of a mere 90 km. From Wenxian we need to get on a local transport to reach the village, Chenjiagou. Those days Chenjiagou was much quieter and was not as well-known, except to taiqi practitioners. I would like to revisit Chenjiagou again when the Covid-19 is over. I have kept faithfully to my taiqi practice for 25 years and i must say i owe my good health to it! Chenshi taiqi 'jiayu'....

Yeah; the interior of China has progress a lot in the last 2/3 decades; however; I am still very worried that the kids donot learn more about modern; Science; Technology and Computing than they should in the West! Recently; I have moved into a Poorer area of England; United Kingdom where I have lived for 20 odd years....and they have the same bull-headed fanaticism about Soccer/ Football than the kids I have encountered in Guangdong Province after having visited there from Hong Kong. They take all that P.E. Running around; huffing and puffing too seriously!....Whereas; they should be more academically inclined; remember football/any kind, including Rugby, Grid-Iron, Etc. stars only last until they R in their late 30s and early 40s...
Then they get into trouble; financially and become "Assistant Coaches" or Whatever....
China still has a long way to go in terms of basic-infrastructure and Real-Estate and the finer points of life....
      Recently; I suggested to a Mainland Caterer with decades of Cooking experience, that In-order; to really clean some stainless steel cooking equipment; he should use Sodium Hydroxide;
U know Na+ OH-(aq); Soda-Crystals. He just looked at me blankly and Smiled like Odd-Job in OO7-Goldfinger. (Like I knew nothing!).
And; to a really Arrogant Tailor who was using wire-wool to clean the Surface of a heavily soiled Clothing-Iron..... I suggested; that he should use an Iron-Cleaning: "Stick"....I showed him how.....he looked at me like I was his worse enemy.....like i'd embarrassed him for life!
China should send more open-minded youngsters abroad to receive a superior Western Scientific Education....than being cooped up in it's own borders and learning impractical things like whatever; "Fu" or "Do" that is in vogue at the current time!
One; should remember that Deng Xiaoping in his Teens was in France, Europe, studying in middle schools in Bayeux. And even had a lowly Job in a Renault factory and as a fitter.
Do not be Brainwashed with all that Chop Socky Stuff...It is just the Chinese version of Soccer and P.E. When the whistle is blown at the end of playtime....
Pay Proper Attention; at Proper Academic Class...

    Hello there!
I believe that Tai Chi is about TRUTH in love with the proverb, "bitter sweet sorrows" and it is shown in Chinese history of Acupuncture and Feng Shui cooking cuisine.
Know the bitterness and taste the sweetness from the sorrows.
It is like drinking a cup of black coffee without the sugar which taste like Chinese medicine.
    Amen and Allah knows Yahweh!
    Om Mani Pad Me Hum!

"Probably" is one of those words one should never use. Now, some believe taijiquan was founded by a certain immortal character at Wudang mountains. And I do mean immortal, literally. Some also believe, that a certain traveling monk from India brought a lotta stuff to China back in the days. Who's to say what really happened? Avoid making assumptions. Try to feel the connection instead. Xiexie.

Chenjiagou isnt the birthplace of Taiji just because Chen style isnt realy Taiji. Chenjiagou was famous for Chang quan and espacially Paochui. If you look at early Yang forms from Banhou or Jianhou that allready dont have much in common with Chen style. Yang Luchan learned from Chen Changxing but not Chen family boxing because this was not allowed to none family members. Changxing learned Taiji from Jiang Fa who was a disciple of Wang Zongyue (or in his lineage). He teached him this style and later mixed it with Chen Paochui and Chang Quan. Wu Tunan and Wang ZhiZhong wrote about this. Wu Tunan had frist hand information of Chen Xin. Chen quan wasnt called Taiji before Chen Fake. He did this after Yang Luchan get famous with his Taiji in Beijing. 1950 on a Taiji comitee he was only allowed to be part of it as a guest not a member, because they dont accept his style as Taiji. Even 1959 Chen style wasnt allowed to start in competitions in the category Taiji but Shaolin or Chang Quan.

@Gieszkanne If you define it like that, than Yang style isn't "tai ji" as well, because Yang Lu-Chan learned Hung Gar before and after his time with the Chen family some to me unknown teachings from his stay in the (Wudang?) mountains and created out of these three sources his style.

I have practiced chen, yang, and cheng man ching tai chi for decades as well as xingyi and ba gua chang. It is nice to see the chicoms came to their senses and didn't completely destroy martial arts, but still the styles taught are not the original but government mandated forms. I bet guang ping yang style does not exist in China. The worst part is the puff piece propaganda and the fact the chinese people are slaves to a repressive, murderous government. May mao rot in hell.

"Chenjiagou Village is a provincial-level rural tourism demonstration village." You covered the point adequately but I couldn't make out the name; it sounded, and the subtitles thought so, like "Chicago". Your interview with Master Chen was insightful: you smiled when he was distinguishing ying from yan, perhaps in mind of the assignment of the feminine to yin: yin seemed to be getting all the bad parts. Or maybe one of your crew smiled at you, or smirked. If sexism, any dismissive sexual categorization, is at the heart of Chinese tradition, we have a problem. When your narration resumes after the interview, your chirpiness is enhanced. Clearly. So ask yourself, if sexism is at root of Chinese culture, is that why the western bump of Asia calling itself "Europe" has been invading China for 2500 years? Clearly, the right question is whether the alleged feature of Chinese culture, wuwei, "not-for", or being without a mental object, is actually there. What do you think: is Australia more sexist than China? 17:04: that's enough for me. He obviously thinks you're from the government, you're there to help him, he can trust you. Little kids run in terror of you. Wuwei. "CGTN, formerly known as CCTV-9 and CCTV News, is an international English-language news channel based in Beijing owned by China Central Television, a state-controlled broadcaster. It has been referred to as a mouthpiece of Chinese government. Wikipedia" CCTV-9 made the Wudang, Home of Tai Chi 9-part series, no, wrong, that's China Central Television. CCTV. Cringeworthy, what? I'll watch the end of it, I think I acted on a mental object.(after the end, yes, I watched it all.) Hen hao. No mental object.

You're showing your ignorance of what gongfu, and the other original martial arts, are really about. The real problem with you "fighters" is impatience. Even Bruce Lee didn't stick to learning Wing Chun long enough to learn the deeper practices that would have given him complete fighting prowess. And that's a commentary from a man who grew up and practiced with him-Hawkins Cheung. There's more to gain from martial arts than beating someone into the dirt.

You really don't know what you are talking about. Before I continue, you being a (likely) martial artist, you're as fake as they come. True martial artists never put down any other styles. Now my point. MMA fighters are not superior on their own facing a practitioner of Tai Chi Quan, Kung Fu, or any other style. The only way they know how to win is the fact they take a steroid/supplement known as Halotestin. That's something countless MMA, BJJ, & others take before a match which gives them increased rage, & spikes strength levels humans don't normally posses. This is prevalent in UFC & MMA fighters just as frequently as bodybuilders take multiple types of steroids for specific body parts to gain an advantage over the bodybuilder staying completely natural.
