30 years and this song holds up better then MOST new music…." but I am held by some invisible vice….and I can't get away…" I have this as a vinyl 45……AND the movie is a must see…..
This brings back memories. I was fortunate enough to see WC perform at the Roxy Theater on Sunset Blvd. in the 80's shortly after they did this soundtrack. To this day, their performance remains one of the most memorable I've ever been to. Still love this track.
The lush sound production here represents everything I loved about the 80's. This is my favorite Wang Chung song. Brooding yet beautiful. Jack reminds me a little of Dr. Smith from Lost In Space.
This is one of the greatest movie soundtracks ever! I saw them perform at an appearance they made on the old "In Concert" in Hollywood around the mid 80's. So wish they would deliver more of their talents to their fans.
Everytime I hear this great song it takes me back to the 80's when I was driving in LA listening to this and it mirrored exactly what I was feeling. But I'm still here so go figure...
So much going on in this song.. little parts and pieces that make up the masterpiece.. just little bongos here...sax there... some drums...oh...its spellbinding...
I wonder why I live alone here I wonder why we spend these nights together Is this the room I'll live my life forever I wonder why in LA To live and die in LA I wonder why we waste our lives here When we could run away to paradise But I am held in some invisible vice And I can't get away To live and die in LA
The preceding was brought to you by Aqua Net. Great song, truly underated. As someone commented previously, fantastic songcraft. Just the instuments used in this says not at all average.
In the heat of the day Every time you go away I have to piece my life together Every time you're away In the heat of the day In the dark of the night Every time I turn the light I feel that God is not in heaven In the dark of the night The dark of the night
Lived in Puebla,P. (Mexico) when this Hit was on the Radio everywhere, my advice to anyone: Only Listen to An 80's Living Fan to Narrow your Quest for Quality Music, Forget the Same Old Merry-Go-Round 80's radio Shows on CD, they're only tell you half of the story.
not all music in the 80's was bad , and this is a shining example , makes me feel happy and sad at the same time .. but why in A flat ? impossible to learn on the guitar
OK this looks suspiciously familiar to me. Disneyland, Grad Nights 1987, Wang Chung performed on the old Videopolis stage near Small World. They played every one of them. And it was covered by a 4 or 5 camera video production crew. I know because I was on that crew. Each performance was archived on 3/4" Videocassettes recorded on Sony 5850 VCR's. This appears to be the same stage set-up they did when they performed there. If this is from Videopolis how did you get hold of the videotape? Are you by chance a Disney alumnus as well?
If I let myself go And for where I just don't know I'd maybe hit some cold new river That led out to the sea An unknown sea I'd either swim or I'd drown Or just keep falling down and down I think it's that, that makes me quiver Just to keep falling down Down, down, down
@SNAKEEYESSAM Used to work with a guy who would walk around singing to himself (but loud enough to hear),"Everybody's well-hung tonight". Rofl the first time I heard him do it.
30 years and this song holds up better then MOST new music…." but I am held by some invisible vice….and I can't get away…" I have this as a vinyl 45……AND the movie is a must see…..
bill..my doppelganger :) That one line has stuck with me since my late teens from this amazing song
One the best movies and songs ever!
One of the best soundtracks of all time.....!
this is at once a beautiful and dark song about the 80's with all it's excesses and trappings. Everyone Wang Chung tonight.
Excesses about the 80s are so overhyped

This is one of the greatest movie soundtracks ever! I saw them perform at an appearance they made on the old "In Concert" in Hollywood around the mid 80's. So wish they would deliver more of their talents to their fans.

Xcellent vid! Wang Chung epitomizes the depth of the 80's!
awesome awesome awesome. These guys were fantastic live. Saw them in 1984 in San Francisco
just saw Wang Chung last night at Norwalk Oyster Festival..excellent time!
Another under rated and forgotten band from that time. Need musicians like this now.
Fantastic! Thanks!! Remember buying the album on vinyl imported from US in 86 and being blown away!!
Dude that was GREAT!!! thanks for posting
Michael (Mikal) Reid is one incredible guitar player. Lots of great nights in Birmingham with Hotel. Miss hearing you, brother.
This band was much better than their pop hits suggested....great post ..thanks....
Excellent song, many thanks for posting this!
Always good to hear and watch a professional.👍
the guitar works are awesome to play... wow this live version is great
Everytime I hear this great song it takes me back to the 80's when I was driving in LA listening to this and it mirrored exactly what I was feeling. But I'm still here so go figure...
I love this song and it was a good movie too...Wang Chung rocks!
If anyone has noticed, you will notice a very cool amazing drummer behind the Kit. The drummer is Bryan Hitt, aka now the drummer of REO Speedwagon
Guy is having the time of his life behind that kit!
So much going on in this song.. little parts and pieces that make up the masterpiece.. just little bongos here...sax there... some drums...oh...its spellbinding...
I thought this really fit the mood of the movie. Great balance of video and score.
Thx for posting this great clip!
One great movie, love the music to.
Saw them In St.Charles the other night. I was very impressed with them.
Just a great song, plain and simple
thanks for posting!!
I have never heard and saw this version. Great version!!!
this and back to the future are are my favs of the 80s.
1985......had this on a 45.....wore it out.....".cause I am held by some invisible vice".... you won't hear music like this again....
I wonder why I live alone here
I wonder why we spend these nights together
Is this the room I'll live my life forever
I wonder why in LA
To live and die in LA
I wonder why we waste our lives here
When we could run away to paradise
But I am held in some invisible vice
And I can't get away
To live and die in LA
My newest music obsession. I've loved it since the eighties and just rediscoved this gem
Just watched movie last week. Hadn't seen in 20 years..great movie. William Peterson and Dafoe..good cast...great tune, soundtrack.
@@glenwelty6788 I'll give it a watch. I'm not sure if I've ever seen the film.
Love this song. I was a teenager way out in Riverside when this came out. Now I live in LA...
Aaaaaaaahhh!!
Still have the sountrack!!
The preceding was brought to you by Aqua Net. Great song, truly underated. As someone commented previously, fantastic songcraft. Just the instuments used in this says not at all average.

Every time you're away
In the heat of the day
In the dark of the night
Every time I turn the light
I feel that God is not in heaven
In the dark of the night
The dark of the night
This was ahead of it's time!

I miss the 80's!
great movie & tune.., thx!

Great song. Always thought Jack Hues looked like a softer version of Sting.
Wow outstanding performance
Amazing.
I remebering taping this off MTV when they showed vids.
Movie,kicks ass.Everyone Wang Chung tonight.
Epic song!
80's Forever!!
not all music in the 80's was bad , and this is a shining example , makes me feel happy and sad at the same time ..
but why in A flat ? impossible to learn on the guitar
Wang Chung best song!
i would die in l.a. just to go back to this concert.

DaveWVideo Damn I wish they had played Grad night in '88 when I went. I don't even remember who was played then.
Heck yeah!
Amazing movie and band.
If I let myself go
And for where I just don't know
I'd maybe hit some cold new river
That led out to the sea
An unknown sea
I'd either swim or I'd drown
Or just keep falling down and down
I think it's that, that makes me quiver
Just to keep falling down
Down, down, down
Great flick, in my top 10 all time. "Buddy.....you're in the wrong place at the wrong time."
@SNAKEEYESSAM Used to work with a guy who would walk around singing to himself (but loud enough to hear),"Everybody's well-hung tonight". Rofl the first time I heard him do it.
best movie ever saw!
who didn't think about printing money after seeing that movie. I bought the 20th yr director's cut in 2005. still a ass-kicker !!!!!!!!
Wait is the best track off that album/soundtrack.
Underrated line;
Masters to Chase; "Mr. Jessop......... Like your work?" Then laughs & smells the U.S. note then laughs again.
i like both
Exactly...
good movie as well
watching this movie is like playing tommy vercetti in san andreas 1985 :-)
So many references... red car, alleys and waterways
the tempo at live concert is faster than at record.
Who is the woman playing the bongos and other percussion instruments?
Gordon Ramsay can do no wrong
You're thinking of Miami Vice...
Who is the woman on percussion?
Wondering the same thing. She is great. Check out Don Henley, Sunset Grill at farm aid 1985 on YT, She is playing with him.
most 80's songs are and id ont care
