    It sounds magnificent! Despite having a slightly different linkage, the boiler pressure of 1309 and 1361 are VERY close so this is likely very close to what it will sound like except it may be a bit higher pitched.

    • @haydenharman2351
      @haydenharman2351  Год назад +5

      Great question their is several reasons why it might not sound the same. First the boiler pressure of 1309 and 1361 are slightly different making it sound different. Second microphones in 1987 are much less advanced than in 2022. Third the way the whistle “linkage” is set up for 1309 is probably different than on 1361 making it sound different.

    Awesome video! Can't wait to hear that whistle on its "proper" engine! In the meantime, and although I could not experience this trip in person, I will definitely turn out to support any future fundraisers at WMSR or elsewhere, where 1361's whistle may put in an appearance. Also, what with the Pennsylvania Railroad's well-known distain for assigning consecutive numbers to entire classes of power, it's kind of cool to imagine an alternate universe where the Pennsy rostered a 2-6-6-2 numbered 1309. Although, that could be another fundraiser idea, to have not only 1361's whistle on 1309 or another preserved steamer, but also maybe to re-letter an engine or affix 1361's keystone numberplate to the smokebox for a fundraiser trip or photo charter.

      No it's not 1361s original whistle, unless they fixed it. They've had several different K4 whistles on it. Personally I think Roy Price's whistle was the best one. It was used on the very first runs.
