It’s better to cut and put them on the store top. White and brown sugar , vanilla cinnamon and nutmeg . Let it cook on the stove , only add 2 tbs of water to the bottom . Yams make their own liquid . Let cook and at the end at the butter . Baking it does not CANDY the yams it bakes them
You can also do the “candy” part on top of the stove and pour it over the peeled diced yams and put it oven and let it bake. Yams wouldn’t be all mushy. Check out Cooking and Grilling with AB RUclips channel.
Marshmallows ruin everything except S’Mores. They don’t belong on any type of potato. I’m with you! I’m making these for my post-T-Gives dinner. Thank you! 👌🏽😘♥️
Don't mind a bit of marshmallows. But I hate when the whole top is a blanket of marshmallow fluff lol. Also a bit of condensed milk adds a nice creaminess to it
I guess I would call it sweet potato casserole. I don’t like it with the marshmallows either. I’m gonna use your recipe for Thanksgiving!! Thanks for the videos man
Great video. That’s the classic “how momma made em” candied yams. I do a version of that where I mash the yams with a ricer, and mix it up with the brown sugar, and I add walnuts (I think). Absolutely delicious, and a dessert served with dinner.
Baby you got to season the potatoes with nutmeg, ginger, ground cloves and you gotta add white sugar....leave off the marshmallow, that's sweet potato souffle
You make them exactly as I was taught. Cooking them in oven with the skin on first gives them more flavor. Through the years I have added peaches and pecans to my recipes. Delicious!! Thank you for sharing. Makes me hungry just watching you. 🤙🏼
My parents call it "camote en azúcar" which is "sweet potatoes in sugar", they always make it on the stove on really low heat until it gets a dark color and most of the water has evaporated. As a kid I always thought they were eating burnt sweet potatoes that's how dark they were 😂
I can eat this dish with or without marshmallows sometimes I add pecans to it down south here in North Carolina we call it candied yams great recipe thank you
We just called them sweet potatoes. I think my grandma says yams but my mom makes them by essentially boiling them in butter and brown sugar 😂😂😂 this looks a little “healthier”
There are so many variations of this recipe. I just made them for thanksgiving. I put 2 sticks of salted butter in a pot cut 5 yams in slices. Melted the butter and added white sugar and a maple syrup nutMeg cinnamon and orange juice. I put the yams in last and it was done in 45-1hr. It was a hit at my house.
Candied yams, candy sweets, sweet potatoes. Man, we make the most delicious, unhealthiest version with marshmallows, raisins, and pineapple chunks. Also had all those ingredients, plus crunched pecans.
Looks yummmmmy! Love candied yams or sweet potatoes. I prefer to bake them, if time allows, otherwise, I boil them for about 7 minutes, el dente. This is how I like to make them. Not all mushed up. I like chunks or slices. I also like to add pecans, a dash of powdered ginger, nutmeg and a dash of salt. This year? Im going to top with marshmallows. with sweet potatoes? They're just as good with just a little brown sugar and cinnamon too. 😊
Nobody at Thanksgiving dinner liked sweets. I TOOK HOME THE WHOLE SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE!!! I would like to add that crushed pecans on top adds flavor and texture to this dish.
In my part of the world, baked sweet potatoes are added to sweetened milk and served like a porridge Always passed on them as a kid but now, I'm dying for those
I don’t add marshmallows either but I do add vanilla extract, organic maple syrup, ginger and honey… (in addition to the ingredients you’ve mentioned)😅
I make them lien a loaded bake potato but yam style bake them make a slice scoop out half of the contents mash them with brown sugar vanilla cinnamon and little tad of carnation sweet milk mix it all to a smooth yummy -ness scoop contents back in baked potato 🥔. Then put marsh mellows and on top bake take out sprinkle little bit of toasted coconut some candied pecans on top and small slice of butter and cinnamon sugar . It’s sok good looks like a bake Tato but yam Style . Soo yummy .
I’m 26 n always been passed on yams as a kid , but once I turned 22 n tried them frfr, boyy was I missing out
Lmao

the smell didn’t make you want to try them?
Don’t feel bad it I have two grown sons who never tried them either. Maybe it’s a guy thing ijs 😂😂😂
Their 31 & 26
And now you take half the tray to make up for lost times? 😆👌💕
yeah without mellows is the way to GO with them way too sweet 😋
Looks good. I like to do brown and white with a pinch of salt and vanilla to it as well.

I will never attempt to bake candied yams again!

These turned out perfect thank you
Don't mind a bit of marshmallows. But I hate when the whole top is a blanket of marshmallow fluff lol. Also a bit of condensed milk adds a nice creaminess to it
I tried the mashmallows yams when I was in my youth. Never liked it. Just give it to me like this I’m cool.
I don’t mind the marshmallows with it, I take them off and eat it separately anyways. (As long as it isn’t completely mushy)
Doesnt have to be sweet potatoes either
I use butternut squash and it tastes the same 💁🏾♀️
Ewwww
Did it come out mushy?
It actually sounds wonderful & makes me want to experiment in the kitchen
How long did you cook it. ..
Really I have to try that
Squash is crazy

Yes yes. That's how I made mine today. I also used brown sugar and vanilla. Oh don't forget about the cloves little sticks.
Oh and add cinnamon lol
Ha..love the recipe..and the " Can't stand them" regarding the marshmallows.
Looks Delicious 😋
My family make these for thanksgiving dinner and I’m with you on the marshmallows
Gonna try this, looks delicious 😋

Right! The Charlie Wilson & Fetty Wap, The Tank Challenge & JMoss versions. Ooowwee 😂
This is how my mom always made them. She always baked them and never used marshmallows..I didnt see that until I was grown and thought it was gross.
Never with marshmallows we don't do them with nothing🤣🤣🤣
We add the marshmallows, for the kids. How long do you bake the sweet potatoes to soften and peel?
We call them candied yams! Oh how I love me some YAMS!!!! No marshmallows or crust of any type. BTW - I'm in Charlotte, North Carolina
North Carolina come on and raise up❤❤❤
So grateful for this video short!!! Perfection! XO

Great recipe! I call em candied yams but we all know in the south they’re sweet potatoes. Very nice cool buddy. 😎🏆
Can’t stand the marshmallow either… but love some toasted pecans on top.
This is my first year trying this awesome looking dish! Imma def add marshmallows 😆
These ARE NOT Candied Yams. This is baked sweet potatoes. The yams should literally look like almost translucent and candied.
I need it at every cookout.. yall missing out i promise
